  • jquery dialog calls a server side method with button parameters

    Hello all, I have a gridview control with delete asp:ImageButton for each row of the grid. What I would like is for a jquery dialog to pop up when a user clicks the delete button to ask if they are sure they want to delete it. So far I have the dialog coming up just fine, Ive got buttons on that dialog and I can make the buttons call server side methods but its getting the dialog to know the ID of the row that the user has selected and then passing that to the server side code. The button in the page row is currently just an 'a' tag with the id 'dialog_link'. The jquery on the page looks like this: $("button").button(); $("#DeleteButton").click(function () { $.ajax({ type: "POST", url: "ManageUsers.aspx/DeleteUser", data: "{}", contentType: "application/json; charset=utf-8", dataType: "json", success: function (msg) { // Replace the div's content with the page method's return. $("#DeleteButton").text(msg.d); } }); }); // Dialog $('#dialog').dialog({ autoOpen: false, width: 400, modal: true, bgiframe: true }); // Dialog Link $('#dialog_link').click(function () { $('#dialog').dialog('open'); return false; }); The dialog itself is just a set of 'div' tags. Ive thought of lots of different ways of doing this (parameter passing, session variable etc...) but cant figure out how to get any of them working.   • Progress dialog getting dismissed before the thread gets finished - Android

    Hi experts, I use the code provided by Fedor in the following link, in order to get the latitude and longitude from my simple demo app. I am trying to fetch the latitude and longitude using the MyLocation class provided by him in that link. What is the simplest and most robust way to get the user's current location in Android? I try to fetch the latitude and longitude on a button click. On the button click, I start an async task and delegate the location fetching work to the do in background method of my asynctask. pre execute - progressdialog initiated. post execute - progress dialog dismissed. This is how, the progress dialog in my code should work and here is the issue which I have. THe progress dialog gets initiated correctly, but even before the latitude and longitude gets printed in the doinbackground method, the progress dialog gets dismissed. I do not understand why this happens.   • Set Up Of Common Name Of SSL Certificate To Protect Plesk Panel

    A PCI Compliance scanner is balking that the self signed SSL certificate protecting secure access to Plesk Panel contains a name mismatch between the location of the Plesk Panel and the name on the certificate, namely the self-signed cert's name is "Parallels" and the domain to reach Plesk is 'ip address:8443'. So I figured I would go ahead and get a free SSL certificate to try to fiddle with this error. But when I generated the certificate I used my server domain name as the site name when I generated the certificate. So if I visit 'domain name:8443' all is fine, no ssl warning. But if I visit 'ip address:8443' (which I believe is what the scanner does) I get the certificate name mismatch error, Digicert's ssl checker says that the certificate name should be the ip address. Can I even generate a certificate whose common name is the ip address? I am tempted to say I should just do what the PCI scanner accepts, but what is really the correct common name to use? Anybody run into this issue before?

  • Common mistakes made by new programmers without CS backgrounds [on hold]

    I've noticed that there seems to be a class of mistakes that new programmers without CS backgrounds tend to make, that programmers with CS backgrounds tend not to. I'm not talking about not understanding source control, or how to design large programs, or a whole host of other things that both freshly minted CS graduates and non-CS graduates tend to not understand, I'm talking about basic mistakes that having a CS background will prevent a programmer from making. One obvious and well trod example is that folks who don't have a basic understanding of formal languages will often try to parse arbitrary HTML or XML using regular expressions, and possibly summon Cthulu in the process. Another fairly common one that I've seen is using common data structures in suboptimal ways like using a vector and a search function as if it were a hash map. What sorts of other things along these lines would you look out for when on-boarding a batch of newly minted, non-CS programmers.

  • Fixing/Extending Standard Windows File Open/Save Dialog [closed]

    Possible Duplicate: Change left side link of the Save As Dialog for a DropBox one? Almost every time I use the standard Windows (XP) File Open/Save Dialog I get frustrated in how long it takes me to navigate to where I want to go. :-( (I won't even get into the MS Office dialog that makes things even worse) This is the dialog I'm referring to (with some notes) Notes: Wouldn't a Drive list be handy in here? C:\, D:\, E:\, etc. What about a breadcrumb URI? (the magenta list of links) Why isn't Program Files one of the icons on the left? (green) I'm always going in there for something Why can't I type "../../../" to navigate up multiple directories in the File name box? (blue) There has got to be some utilities out there that can "hijack" or "overwrite" this core windows dialog to provide a much better set of options. I'm looking for any/all solutions to help fix this dialog.

    I have seen many Sharepoint Newbies cracking their head to create a Console/Windows  application in VS2010 and make it talk to Sharepoint 2010 Server. I had the same problem when i started with Sharepoint in the begining. It is important for you to acknowledge that SharePoint 2010 is based on .NET Framework version 3.5 and not version 4.0. In VS 2010 when you create a Console/Windows application, Make Sure you select .Net Framework 3.5 in the New Project Dialog Window.If you have missed while creating new Project Go to the Application tab of project properties and verify that .NET Framework Version 3.5 is select as the Target Framework. Now that you have selected the correct framework, will it work? Nope if the application is configured as x86 one it will not work. Sharepoint is a 64 Bit application and when you create a windows application to talk to Sharepoint it should also be a 64 Bit one. Go to Configuration Manager, Select x64. If x64 is not available select <New…> and in the New Solution Platform dialog box select x64 as the new platform copying settings from x86 and checking the Create new project platforms check box. This is not applicable if you are making a console application to talk to sharepoint with Client Object Model.

  • Speed Up the Help Dialog in Windows and Office

    When you click help, you don’t want to wait for your computer to bring it to you.  Here’s how you can speed up the help dialog in Windows and Office. If you have a slow internet connection, chances are you’ve been frustrated by the Help dialog in Windows and Office trying to download fresh content every time you open them. This can be great if the updated help files contain better content, but sometimes you just want to find what you were looking for without waiting.  Here’s how you can turn off the automatic online help. Use Local Help in Windows Windows 7 and Vista’s help dialog usually tries to load the latest content from the net, but this can take a long time on slow connections. If you’re seeing the above screen a lot, you may want to switch to offline help.  Click the “Online Help” button at the bottom, and select “Get offline Help”. Now your computer will just load the pre-installed help files.  And don’t worry; if there’s a major update to your help files, Windows will download and install it through Windows Update.   Stupid Geek Tip: An easy way to open Windows Help is to click on your desktop or Start Menu and press F1 on your keyboard. Use Local Help in Office This same trick works in Office 2007 and 2010.  We’ve actually had more problems with Office’s help being tardy. Solve this the same way as with Windows help.  Click on the “Connected to Office.com” or “Connected to Office Online” button, depending on your version of Office, and select “Show content only from this computer”. This will automatically change the settings for Help in all of your Office applications.   • Getting Started Plugging into the "Find in Projects" Dialog

    In case you missed it amidst all the code in yesterday's blog entry, the "Find in Projects" dialog is now pluggable. I think that's really cool. The code yesterday gives you a complete example, but let's break it down a bit and deconstruct down to a very simple hello world scenario. We'll end up with as many extra tabs in the "Find in Projects" dialog as we need, for example, three in this case:  And clicking on any of those extra tabs will, in this simple example, simply show us this: Once we have that, we'll be able to continue adding small bits of code over the next few blog entries until we have something more useful. Just display the modal 2. Fade in the overlay Alas, simply removing the 2nd parameter of dialog.overlay.fadeIn() from the code above doesn't work. I also tried removing the parameters of dialog.container.show(), also changing it to dialog.container.open(). I've tried other combinations of the code, to no avail. How do I achieve the animation that I wish?

    If you open a dialog in Swing, for example a JFileChooser, it goes somewhat like this pseudocode: swing event thread { create dialog add listener to dialog close event { returnValue = somethingFromDialog } show dialog (wait until it is closed) return returnValue } My question is: how can this possibly work? As you can see the thread waits to return until the dialog is closed. This means the Swing event thread is blocked. Yet, one can interact with the dialog, which AFAIK requires this thread to run. So how does that work?

  • Android Alert Dialog Extract User Choice Radio Button?

    Apologies for any coding ignorance, I am a beginner and am still learning! I am creating a quiz app which reads questions off a SQL database and plots them as points on a google map. As the user clicks each point, an alert dialog appears with radio buttons to answer some question. My radiobuttons are in CustomItemizedOverlay file and when I click submit, I want to be able to send the user choice back to the database, save it and return to the user if their answer is correct. My question is this, how do I pass the user choice out once the submit button has been clicked? I tried making a global variable to read what was selected to no avail.     As one journey's from apprentice to journeyman to master I've noticed that one accumulates a list of best practices for things they've been bitten by. Personally, I write most of my stuff in java & SQL so my list tends to be slated towards them. I've accumulated the following: When doing list removal, always reverse iterate Avoid adding items to a list you are currently iterating on Watch out for NullPointerExceptions Now, I know there are language specific "common errors" links out there like this one. And I'm also aware of the pragmatic programmer tips, Martin Fowler's "code smells". Does anyone know of any good lists out there of things like I've listed above (re: list removal, adding items, etc). My guess is that there are some good QA folks out there that can probably throw me a bone here. I'm not looking for things the compiler can catch - I'm looking for common things that cause bugs. In the event that there isn't a list out there already then I welcome posting your own findings here. Thanks in advance!

  • Common way to store model transformations

    I ask myself what's the best way to store the transformations in a model class. What I came up with is to store the translation and scaling in a Vector3 and the rotation in a Matrix4. On each update (frame) I multiply the 3 matrices (first build a Translation and Scaling Matrix) to get the world matrix. In this way I have no accumulated error. world = translation * scaling * rotation Another way would be to store the rotation in a quaternion but then I would have a high cost to convert to a matrix every time step. If I lerp the model I convert the rotation matrix to quaternion and then back to matrix. For speed optimization I have a dirty flag for each transformation so that I only do a matrix multiplication if necessary. world = translation if (isScaled) { world *= scaling } if (isRotated) { world *= rotation } Is this a common way or is it more common to have only one Matrix4 for all transformations? And is it better to store the rotation only as quaternion? For info: Currently I'm building a CSS3D engine in Javascript but these questions are relevant for every 3D engine.
