  • Status of VB6/ Best Desktop Application Language with Native Compilation

    I was looking for a Desktop Application Programming Language with one of the biggest constraint: - “I need to output as native executable”. I explored multiple options: Java is not a very good option for desktop programming, but still you can use it. But Java to Exe is a problem. Only GCJ and Excelsior-Jet provides this. .Net platform does not support native compilation. Only very few expensive tools are available which can do the job. Python is not an option for native compilation. Right? VB6 is the option I am left with. From the above list, if I am correct, VB6 is the only and probably the best option I have. But VB6 itself has issues like: It is no more under development since There are questions on support of VB6 IDE with Vista Thus my questions are: From the list of programming language options, do you want to add any more? If VB6 is good/best option, looking at its development status, would you suggest using VB6 in this era?

  • Pixel shader wierd compilation error

    hi, I'm experiencing with shaders a bit and I keep getting this weird compilation error that's driving me crazy! the following pixel shader code snippet: DirectionVector = normalize(f3LightPosition[i] - PixelPos); LightVec = PixelNormal - DirectionVector; // Get the light strenght factor LightStrFactor = float(abs((LightVec.x + LightVec.y + LightVec.z) / 3.0f)); // TEST!!! LightStrFactor = 1.0f; // Add this light to the total light on this pixel LightVal += f4Light[i] * LightStrFactor; works perfectly, but as soon as i remove the "LightStrFactor = 1.0f;" line, i.e. letting 'LightStrFactor ' value be the result of the calculation above, it fails to compile the shader.   • Customizing the TFS 2008 build sequence to avoid compilation and deploy SSRS

    I'm trying to create a CI process for SQL Server Reporting Services. I am fairly new to TFS but quite experienced with MSBuild. In the past I've used a combination of MSBuild with Team City so the whole build process is more or less custom. Here lies the start of my problems, as the solution I am deploying only contains Report Server projects (rds), no compilation is required. I thought that I would override the the first default task that TFS runs (EndToEndIteration) to override the default TFS build sequence and inject my own. The first snag that I have come across is that the build always fails, how can I set the status of the build to success? Currently the EndToEndIteration task is very light and only has a message. Is this the best method to create a custom build process in TFS where compilation is not required? Or should I use the default sequence and override one of the hook tasks mentioned in http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa337604%28VS.80%29.aspx (ie: AfterCompile) The core steps that I'd like to achieve are: Bundle the RDL and datasource files Connect to the host server to register/deploy the reports Re-apply any subscriptions that previously existed Run tests to verify the deployment succeeded and is returning results as expected I have found another article on Report services deployment: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/88710/reporting-services-deployment But it doesn't mention the best practice for customizing the standard build process. Any help would be appreciated.

    We are migrating to Sun Studio 12.1 and with the new compiler [ CC: Sun C++ 5.10 SunOS_sparc 2009/06/03 ]. I am getting compilation error while compiling a code that compiled fine with earlier version of Sun Compiler [ CC: Sun WorkShop 6 update 2 C++ 5.3 2001/05/15 ]. This is the compilation error I get. "Sample.cc": Error: Could not find a match for LoopThrough(int[2]) needed in main(). 1 Error(s) detected. * Error code 1. CODE: #include <iostream> #define PRINT_TRACE(STR) \ std::cout << __FILE__ << ":" << __LINE__ << ":" << STR << "\n"; template<size_t SZ> void LoopThrough(const int(&Item)[SZ]) { PRINT_TRACE("Specialized version"); for (size_t index = 0; index < SZ; ++index) { std::cout << Item[index] << "\n"; } } /* template<typename Type, size_t SZ> void LoopThrough(const Type(&Item)[SZ]) { PRINT_TRACE("Generic version"); } */ int main() { { int arr[] = { 1, 2 }; LoopThrough(arr); } } If I uncomment the code with Generic version, the code compiles fine and the generic version is called. I don't see this problem with MSVC 2010 with extensions disabled and the same case with ideone here. The specialized version of the function is called. Now the question is, is this a bug in Sun Compiler ? If yes, how could we file a bug report ?

  • Firebug not showing Javascript errors for Rails applications

    I have a Rails application, and when I have Javascript errors they are not showing in the Firebug console. I have 'Show javascript errors' and 'Show javascript warnings' selected. When I insert javascript errors in a basic html file, the errors show as expected. In the javascript of the Rails app, it only shows errors in rare cases. For example i can insert nonsense like: dfghaefb; and no error is shown in Firebug. But if i insert a space in there Firebug does show the error: dfgh aefb; Any ideas? This is driving me nuts.

  • How to return all aspnet_compiler errors (not just those in first directory)

    Hi there! Is there a way to get the aspnet_compiler to go through all views and return all errors, rather than just the errors in the current view directory? For example, lets say I have a project that has a bunch of folders... Views Folder1 Folder2 Folder3 Folder4 Two of them (Folder2 and Folder3) have errors. aspnet_compiler will run, and only return the errors it comes across in Folder2. It won't return those in Folder3 at the same time. Once I fix the errors in Folder2 and run it again, it'll then pick up the ones in the Folder3. I fix those. And then have to run the tool again, and again until it's all fixed. This is getting annoying!! For reference, here's the command I use: C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50727\aspnet_compiler -v / -p "C:\path\to\project" Thanks in advance!

  • Errors when switching to specific static IP

    I had a Fedora box running using my static IP 69.169.136.6, etc, all configured according to what the ISP required. Just recently the hard drive failed (and I should have been keeping better backups) - while it is being recovered I would like to put up a webpage on my Archlinux PC explaining the problem - I presently do not have sufficient access to change the DNS record assigned to the domain. When I change my ip address while my system is running to 69.169.136.6, ifconfig reports the new ip address, but http://whatismyip.com/ does not. When I change it and reboot, I can't ping - the message I recieve is "connect: Network is unreachable" (when given one of google.com 's IP addresses - hostnames give me ping: unknown host xxx). Until I have access to the DNS system, what can I do to make this work? Edit: With new IP address, same problem, IP is now 69.169.136.29.   • Troubleshooting a high SQL Server Compilation/Batch-Ratio

    I have a SQL Server (quad core x86, 4GB RAM) that constantly has almost the same values for "SQLServer:SQL Statistics: SQL compilations/sec" and "SQLServer:SQL Statistics: SQL batches/sec". This could be interpreted as a server running 100% ad hoc queries, each one of which has to be recompiled, but this is not the case here. The sys.dm_exec_query_stats DMV lists hundreds of query plans with an execution_count much larger than 1. Does anybody have any idea how to interpret / troubleshoot this phenomenon? BTW, the server's general performance counters (CPU,I/O,RAM) all show very modest utilization.

(and suffers other bugs and limitations) Is there a free OCR program for Windows which has such a GUI and a low error rate? I want it to show the original (bitmap) word while I'm editing the OCRed word similar to what SimpleOCR does: Free is good. Open-source is better.

    I've got a problem here : I have a C++ Library ("DataTsBroad") and a C++ Test app ("DataTsBroadTest"), to test it. Actually, the Lib and the Test app are both compiled an a Debian Lenny. Now, i want to continue to compile my Test app on a Debian Lenny (customer constraint), but i would compile my lib on a Squeeze or a Wheezy to work on the last Debian releases. So, i successfully compiled my Lib on a Squeeze, But, after, when i try to compile my Test app with this Lib on the Lenny, it fails ! There is a Link Error : Linking CXX executable DataTsBroadTest /home/nis/pezierg/test/ProductMak/Export/DataTsBroad/L64/Release/libDataTsBroad64.so: undefined reference to `std::ctype::_M_widen_init() const@GLIBCXX_3.4.11' collect2: ld returned 1 exit status make[2]: *** [DataTsBroadTest] Error 1 make[1]: *** [CMakeFiles/DataTsBroadTest.dir/all] Error 2 make: * [all] Error 2 The problem is certainly due to ostream C++ Lib, I tried to comment all it's uses in my Lib and it works.   • How to set the IP address in a customized OpenWRT compilation

    I have been struggling today customizing OpenWRT. I checkout the stable using SVN, "make menuconfig" to customize the image, "make" it and run it on a router. Almost all my modifications work, except for the (Seemingly trivial) task of changing the default 192.168.1.1 address. I tried numerous files (scripts as well as config files) but I can't seem to change it (I can change it for a brief moment after boot using the "preinit" file, but after a few seconds it reverts to default). I suspect I should be setting it in the /etc/network file, but modifications there seem to be overwritten during boot. Maybe it has something to do with the br-lan interface? Does anybody have some thoughts on the subject? Thanks!

    I'm downloaded version 37.0 of Google Chrome but, few plugins and extensions didn't worked. I'm uninstalled that version and install 35.0 again, but now i have some errors.     I've got an old project in Eclipse 2.1 and compiled with a JDK 1.4.2_12. I want to upgrade the version of Eclipse to Eclipse Galileo. I've imported my project and set the compilation level to 1.4 and I've also updated my build path to use the correct JDK. The problem is that when I compare the compiled files in the classes folder in the two versions of Eclipse, the MD5 checksum are different. Should I be worried about that fact or this is normal?

Ideally, I just wish all those errors, warning, and notices (with messages) that were displayed on my webpage were sent to log-file /var/log/php-scripts.log when the “Environment” is “Production”. If it’s not possible, I would also be fine, If i can log it somewhere else. Now, I’m confused as to what should be the settings in the “index.php” page or some other configuration, so as to supress all the errors and warnings on the webpage when environment is "Production", and send all those errors, warnings, and notices to php-scripts.log.   • C: Why does gcc allow char array initialization with string literal larger than array?

    int main() { char a[7] = "Network"; return 0; } A string literal in C is terminated internally with a nul character. So, the above code should give a compilation error since the actual length of the string literal Network is 8 and it cannot fit in a char[7] array. However, gcc (even with -Wall) on Ubuntu compiles this code without any error or warning. Why does gcc allow this and not flag it as compilation error? gcc only gives a warning (still no error!) when the char array size is smaller than the string literal. For example, it warns on: char a[6] = "Network"; [Related] Visual C++ 2012 gives a compilation error for char a[7]: 1>d:\main.cpp(3): error C2117: 'a' : array bounds overflow 1> d:\main.cpp(3) : see declaration of 'a'

  • vhost.conf file in PLESK not working as intended

    I have configured a vhost file for my domain but it does not seem to work. These are the steps I took, please correct me if I am wrong. First I made a file called vhost.conf in: /var/www/vhosts/*domain*/conf/vhost.conf The content of the vhost file looks like this: <Directory /var/www/vhosts/*domain*/httpdocs> php_admin_flag engine on php_admin_flag display_errors on </Directory> Now in my /etc/php.ini i set display_errors=Off After everything i rebuild with: /usr/local/psa/admin/sbin/websrvmng -a But I don't see the any errors in my page. When i turn on the display_errors in /etc/php.ini only then can I see the errors. I know for a fact that the vhost file is read, because when i type nonsense values i get an error when restarting apache saying there are errors in the vhost file. Anyone know what the problem can be. Should there be special settings in either the php.ini file or the httpd.conf file. The httpd.conf i edit is in /etc/httpd/conf/httpd.conf. Is this the file that PLESK uses or is there another, because the values i see there do not really reflect the http folders of my domain. The httpd file looks like this now. # The document root DocumentRoot "/var/www/html" # i guess this is the base directory <Directory /> Order Deny,Allow Deny from all Options None AllowOverride None </Directory> # And i guess here are all my domains located, but there aren't any here <Directory "/var/www/html"> Options None AllowOverride None Order allow,deny Allow from all </Directory> Only this directory /var/www/html is not used by me, I use the directory /var/www/vhosts. The only folder found in /var/www/html is a folder called awstats. Does plesk use other files, and where are they located. I hope this all makes sense to anyone, and i hope i can find a solution
