• Why does Ubuntu 11.10 hang frequenty?

  I've been using Ubuntu from a long time and recently I have shifted to its newest version 11.10. Its interface is nice but my touch-pad hangs frequently in short intervals of time. When that happens, no key or key combination works. The only option is to restart or logout my laptop. I am using a Dell Inspiron N4010. I have tried a lot to solve this problem but haven't found any satisfactory help till now. Most of my friends who are using Ubuntu 11.10 reported the same to me, seems like it's a bug. How can I get out of this problem?

• Strange. Asterisk key plays random Windows sound when pressed

  This is a new one on me. When I press the "asterisk", or * button on my number pad (but not SHIFT+8), Windows makes either a "Exclamation" or "Windows ding" sound. I haven't noticed a pattern to which sound is made. Logitech K200 keyboard No special key mapping software or Logitech software running Realtek sound to stereo through optical cable. Visual Studio 2010, Chrome, Fiddler, WinRAR, Notepad++, and Dropbox running. No unusual behavior otherwise. A solution isn't terribly important but my curiosity is both piqued and stumped. This doesn't normally happen and nothing odd has taken place otherwise. Ideas?

• linksys Rvo16 redundant link config

  Hi All I have been given an RVO16 to play with. I'm multihomed and I'd like to set it up so that my primary, highest bandwidth link receives all traffic and the other connection is a hot spare basically. I want them both online but only the primary 1 used until it goes down then all traffic should automatically failover to the secondary link. Those of you that have played on an RVO16, can I do this and if so, how? I imagine I'd have it act as a router and pad the route on one so that the other is never used unless the primary is down. • MacBookPro running Windows 7: accidental trackpad input is driving me mad

  I am running Windows7 Professional 64bit on a 2010 MacBookPro using BootCamp 3.1. I am using an external trackball. When I am typing, I accidently brushing the trackpad and accidently overtyping randomly selected pieces of text. Which is driving me mad. I have tried to install TrackPad++, but I could not get the Trackpad++ control panel to recognise that the driver software was installed. I tried TrackPad Magic, but although it gives me a system tray icon telling me it is working, but it does not appear to disable the track pad. A quick Google implies that there should be an option in the BootCamp Control Panel 'Ignore accidental Input while typing'. But I can't see one of those in my BootCamp Control Panel. Am I looking in the wrong place? Is this feature 32bit only? Is there anything else I should try?

  ok so i have a set of touch screen buttons on the top of my laptop's keyboard, (one turns on power save mode, one disables/enables the mouse touch pad, one toggles the wifi adapter, and two turns the volume up/down) however theres another one that opened a file backup utility that came with my laptop. but since i bought my laptop , ive uninstalled that utility, rendering this button useless. So i was wondering if it was possible to reprogram that button to open another file or program on my computer? And if so what are the requirements and how would i go about doing it? • Fine control over zoom and aspect ratio in VLC player

  In VLC Player (v1.01), how do I zoom video and control aspect ratio with fine control, as is possible with Media Player Classic Home Cinema (MPCHC)? The standard zoom appears to only support double, normal, quarter size etc, not useful to me at all. An example: I play an older music video file that is in 4:3 aspect ratio. In MPCHC I can use the number pad to zoom in small increments until I have removed the left and right letterbox bars and the video fills the whole screen. I can also stretch and move the video in small increments until I am happy with the aspect ratio and position. I could continue using MPCHC, but I have two displays and really like VLC feature enabling full-screen video on the main screen and the VLC interface (menus etc) on the second. I have not found a way to do this on MPCHC, if anyone knows I'd also be interested to hear.

• Asus EeePC X101CH Touchpad issue

  I have an Asus EeePC X101CH that the touchpad was uninstalled from (I saw the uninstall dialog boxes open). After a restart there was a PS/2 mouse under View Hidden Devices in Device Manager that wasn't installed properly (I'm assuming that this is the touchpad). Going to the Asus website and downloading the drivers (V15.3.27.1), I get the error message "Synaptics device not found!". I tried the other driver Version v9.1.7.7 for the Sentelic TouchPad as well (when run it appears to be the driver for the finger sensing) and got the error message "This driver version is inapplicable for the touch pad. Please check the devices on the system and install the suitable driver.". What's my next step? Thanks!

• Need leading zero for batch script using %time% variable

  Hi, I came across a bug in my DOS script that uses date and time data for file naming. The problem was I ended up with a gap because the time variable didn't automatically provide leading zero for hour < 10. So running echo %time% gives back: ' 9:29:17.88'. Does anyone know of a way to conditionally pad leading zeros to fix this? More info: My filename set command is: set logfile=C:\Temp\robolog_%date:~-4%%date:~4,2%%date:~7,2%_%time:~0,2%%time:~3,2%%time:~6,2%.log which ends up being: C:\Temp\robolog_20100602_ 93208.log (for 9:23 in the morning).   I'm seeing some intermittent behavior on the touchpad. First it wasn't working at all. Then during restart, for a little while it seemed like the buttons attached to the joystick and external mouse were both swapped left/right. Then I went in to the dell touchpad control and disabled the touchpad and re-enabled it and nothing happened. Then a short while after disabling the joystick the touch pad started working. So I restarted to see if it would keep the settings and before login, the touchpad appeared to work, then after login it stopped working for a few minutes while login continued. Then after the login was almost completed it started to work again. It appeared to have retained the settings for the disabled joystick. It seems like perhaps there are conflicting mouse drivers trying to simultaneously or similar. This doesn't seem normal for the touchpad to be disabled for so long after login. What steps should I take to ensure the drivers are right?

  I've to faced kinda of missing drivers after formatted Windows .. Especially, Graphic Drivers, Touch-pad driver, finger print driver and so forth are sensitive . They do not work without installing drivers. I can even download at its official website . But some drivers are not found in the website. .. Thus, I'm looking for a solution ( may be a software ) that can backup my drivers effectively ( if it can do with schedule, it'll be great) and can restore easily locally . • How to get pen input to draw?

  I just got a crappy little Hyundai pen input module To use on a normal Windows 7 HP laptop, it works quite well with the Hyundai software, but that's in Chinese, and the input only stays on the screen for a second. When I try to use it in Paint, it just draws a dot, and switches back to an unclicked state, similarly, it's impossible to move a window. Is there ant way I can keep the click held down when the pen is touching the pad in order to draw, or is there any third party software anyone knows of that can do this?

  I would like to use Linux(Fedora) on a Aluminum MacBook Pro, but since the Touchpad on a MacBook Pro is only a giant button Apple does some custom tracking. When there is one finger placed, and a second follows (the click can occur before or after that) it will be interpreted as a drag. So the strong thumb can be used to hold pressure and the more accurate index finger can do the pointing. But Linux interprets this as a right click, since it only cares if two fingers are on the pad. • Issue with Capslock key on Laptop

  For some reason my laptop has a mind of its own and the Caps Lock tends to come on whenever it feels like it. I thought it was an software issue from that reasoning, but I later cleared the OS and then reinstalled it hoping to fix the problem, but it didn't. Not only does it do that it also comes on and off whenever the letters A, S, and left shift key are pushed. So I assummed it was a keyboard issue and that the keyboard needs to be replaced, but it has one of those touch pad cap lock buttons also, because even when I press that button it tends to not react. So how can that be fixed with a keyboard replacement or is that connected still? • using iphone to control mac

  i want to use iPhone touch screen as the touchPad for my mac while both devices are connected via bluetooth. So far i hv gone for two approaches what i want is an application which when launched turns the bluetooth on and get connected to mac.Further ...screen of iPhone becomes the touch pad for mac. i dont want to install anything at the mac like any server........ I have already tried the vnc and remotePad approach. the one with vnc looks more promising for me..but even in that case i have to install a vnc server on mac ,i guess and then we'll have to actually call vnc client while my application is still running,which does not look real in 3.2 verson as it does not support multi tasking. Is there any other way of doing it? or is there anything wrong in my above interpretation? please let me know if there is anyother approach of doing the same or if i can do any thing different with my current approach. hoping for quick response Thanks

• Scrolling mouse sets windows sound volume

  Suddenly, when I use the scroll wheel of my mouse, it changes the windows sound volume level. I have a HP DV6-2030SD laptop with Windows 7 64 bit and a Zolid p50622 mouse. When I use the scroll function of the mouse pad of the laptop, it does not adjust the sound level. I don't have any special mouse drivers installed, just the standard windows drivers. When I scroll, I see the HP sound level screen: It doesn't do it always, but when it does, it prevents the current window to scroll, which is really annoying. Rebooting doesn't help. I've tried to put the USB dongle in a different port, but this doesn't help either. Any advise on how I can fix this?

Toshiba L500-ST2544 Toshiba L505-ES5034 The Common Specification for both of them are as follows - RAM - 4GB DDR3 Memory HDD - 320 GB Processor - Intel® Core™ i3-330M Processor WebCam and Mic - Available HDMI Port - Available Numeric Key Pad - Available Windows 7 (64 bit) Home Premium Now, the only difference between ST2544 and ES5034 is that, the ST2544 has a maximum of 2 slots with 2 GB in each. So, you can have a max of 4 GB RAM in that. The ES5034 can support 8 GB RAM, so, in a couple of years, if I want to add another 4 GB RAM I will be able to do it. The price for ST2544 is USD 629.00 whereas, the price for a ES5034 is USD685. A difference is USD 55.00 (not a major amount, but still something extra). Is it worthwhile going for the ES5034? Which Windows Operating System supports 8 GB of RAM?

  I have Ubuntu 10.04 running gnome and two monitors. I am wondering if a can get a better multi-monitor configuration tool. The one I have, gnome-display-properties, has too many problems, including: when I swapped my monitors over, the narrower one now on the left. There is a width calculation error, such that I have a virtual monitor the width of the wide-monitor on the narrow-monitor and part of the wide monitor. And a virtual narrow-monitor on the remainder of the wide-monitor. I would like: nobugs. to be able to select which is primary monitor. to have multiple configurations. configurations to be automatically selected based on which monitors are attached. configurations to be cycled (reliably) when display mode key is pressed. when a display is deactivated, for windows to migrate to remaining monitors. option to not change display resolution when mirroring, but to use side/top blanking bars to pad out screen.

• Dell D630 - Touchpad does not move the mouse cursor

  Windows XP - Dell D630 - Synaptics Touch Pad driver installed. The system tray icon that shows the movement of your finger on the touchpad registeres movement. The scroll feature of the touchpad works on any window with a scroll bar. The double click works even. But it never actually moves the cursor on the screen. An external mouse works with out problems, and I've replaced the palm-rest/touchpad and it continues to happen. The touch stick in the middle of the keyboard works without problems. Does anyone have any ideas?

• My fingers are cold when using my computer - solutions?

  This might seem silly, and if there is no good and practical solution... I will live. I am a programmer and sit at a computer 10 hours a day - and even though the rest of me is nice and warm (at least warm), my fingers are cold as ice. Are there some gadgets or tricks to keep your fingers warm while typing/mousing? Gloves do not seem like a good solution, since it hinders the movement of the fingers. I have sometimes put my extra laptop next to the mouse pad, so that it vents hot air on the mouse - and that works... But it is not very practical, plus it only works for one hand (and not very well). Tips?

  I'm looking for an HP USB 104-Key Modular Keyboard with Detachable Number Pad (model number is DT530A, I believe), shown at this online store, where it's quite cheap but is sadly sold out. I've searched for hours on Google, and I've found several - the problem is they're Spanish or Greek keyboards but I need one in English (US keys preferred)! I would also be happy with a keyboard which is not exactly this but is similar, either with a detachable keypad or with no keypad at all, as long as the keyboard key layout and positioning is the same as on a standard keyboard. Can you help me find such a keyboard?

• Why did my mouse/trackpad suddenly stop working on my MacBook under Windows XP?

  My mouse and track pad have suddenly stopped working on my MacBook, which is running Windows XP from BootCamp. Both the USB mouse and the trackpad work fine in OS X. The device manager says that the driver is missing or corrupt on both items (they have a yellow exclamation point). I tried uninstalling the mice, and reinstalling them. Since the USB mouse is a Logitech I tried replacing the driver with one downloaded from Logitech.com. Anyone know how I can repair the mouse driver that Windows XP is using?
