  • Java: Generating distribution of values in an ArrayList

    Hi all, I have a sorted ArrayList of values. I would like to get the distribution of the values. For example: Say I have 500 values, ranging from 1-100. I want to break them up into groups, say 10 groups: values 1-10, 11-20, 21-30, etc... I want the counts of each of the 500 values that fall into each category. For example, 5 of the 500 are valued at 1-10, 20 between 11-20, etc... However, I do not know the ranges of values in my ArrayList, it could be ranging from 1-30 or 1-200, but I want to break it up into, for example, 10 groups. Does anyone know how to do this?

  • Generating a random displacement on the unit sphere

    Given a unit vector n, I need to generate, as fast as possible, another random unit vector m. The deviation of m from n should be on the order of a positive parameter sigma, and the distribution of m on the unit sphere should be symmetrical around n. I have no specific requirements on the representation of unit vectors, so you can use spherical angles, Cartesian coordinates, or whatever turns out to be convenient. Also, there are no precise requirements on the probability distributions used, as long as it decays when m deviates more than sigma from n. I am working with gsl and C. I have come up with a somewhat convoluted method using Cartesian coordinates. I will post it later if it is useful, but I would like to see people's ideas.

  • Maven best practice for generating artifacts for multiple environments [prod, test, dev] with CI/Hud

    I have a project that need to be deployed into multiple environments (prod, test, dev). The main differences mainly consist in configuration properties/files. My idea was to use profiles and overlays to copy/configure the specialized output. But I'm stuck into if I have to generate multiple artifacts with specialized classifiers (ex: "my-app-1.0-prod.zip/jar", "my-app-1.0-dev.zip/jar") or should I create multiple projects, one project for every environment ?! Should I use maven-assembly-plugin to generate multiple artifacts for every environment ? Anyway, I'll need to generate all them at once so it seams that the profiles does not fit ... still puzzled :( Any hints/examples/links will be more than welcomed. As a side issue, I'm also wondering how to achieve this in a CI Hudson/Bamboo to generate and deploy these generated artifacts for all the environments, to their proper servers (ex: using SCP Hudson plugin) ?

  • Dynamically generating a file with javascript?

    I'm working on a web app for my company that will let us do some image tagging stuff, and I'd like to be able to generates results in the form of a CSV file. I can do this easily enough by dumping the CSV data to a div or something on the page and having the user copy it out. I'd rather have them hit the a generate button and have a CSV file downloaded as though they clicked on a link to the result, so they can more easily just save the file somewhere convenient. Is it possible to simulate this kind of thing with javascript? I basically want to dynamically generate the file and then let them download it, client side.

    Hello, I would ideally like to be able to add (very repetitive) C/C++ code to my actual code, but at compile time, code which would come from say, the stdout of a python script, the same way one does with macros. For example, let's say I want to have functions that depend on the public attributes of a given class, being able to just write the following in my C++ code would be a blessing: generate_boring_functions(FooBarClass,"FooBarClass.cpp") Is that feasible using conventional means? Or must I hack with Makefiles and temporary source files? Thanks.

  • Generating a beveled edge for a 2D polygon

    I'm trying to programmatically generate beveled edges for geometric polygons. For example, given an array of 4 vertices defining a square, I want to generate something like this. But computing the vertices of the inner shape is baffling me. Simply creating a copy of the original shape and then scaling it down will not produce the desired result most of the time. My algorithm so far involves analyzing adjacent edges (triples of vertices; e.g., the bottom-left, top-left, and top-right vertices of a square). From there, I need to find the angle between them, and then create a vertex somewhere along that angle, depending on how deep I want the bevel to be. And because I don't have much of a math background, that's where I'm stuck. How do I find that center angle? Or is there a much simpler way of attacking this problem?

    I am trying to generate an NSDictonary that can be used to populate a listview with data I retrieved from an SQL statement. when I go to create an array and add them it adds the arrays for ALL my keys and not just for the current key.     Hello, I need to generate small images for certain parts of text. Those will have to fit into the text seamlessly. I know I can not make up for every browser font settings available, but how do I have to check for Linux, Mac and Windows users depending on the user agent? I want to use the right font (of the three "Verdana, Arial, Helvetiva") for the right user agent OS. So: How do I check for the OS? What do I have to compare to in the user agent? Where can I get the other two fonts. Does the Windows-included Verdana look the same as the one used on Linux (or, is it free anyway? I don't know much about fonts)? Where do I get Helvetica? Is it Mac OS licensed? Any code examples can be in either c# or VB.NET. I can read both. Thank you in advance.

    Hi All, I am loving the new world that is C#, I've come to a point with my toy programs where I want to start writing some unit tests. My code currently uses a database via a DatabaseDataContext object (*.dbml file), what's the best way to create a mock for this object? Given how easy it is to generate the database LINQ - SQL code and how common a request this must be I'm hoping that VS2010 has built in functionality to help with testing. I am trying to generate a random integer between 1 and 12 and then call a certain javascript function based on the result. Here's what I have: int number = 1 + (int)(Math.random() * ((12 - 1) + 1)); number = (int) Math.floor(number); String nextQuote = "javascript:wave" + number + "()"; mWebView.loadUrl(nextQuote); So mWebView.loadUrl(nextQuote) will be the same as something like mWebView.loadUrl("javascript:wave1()") I just want to know if what I have here is correct and will work the way I think it will. The application isn't responding as expected and I suspect this bit of code is the culprit.

So Big-O would be O((2^n)*n) (since we drop the constant 2)... is that correct? And n*(2^n) is worse than n^2. if n = 4 then (4*(2^4)) = 64 (4^2) = 16 if n = 100 then (10*(2^10)) = 10240 (10^2) = 100 2. Is there a faster way to generate a power set, or is this about optimal?

    I would like to use Esper to generate episodes of events. I am trying to detect the changes in robot movement during each time period and was wondering what would be the best way of implementation. The rules for generation of episodes from the events would be If the new event time(eg. 7sec, robot A) of a robot is more than 3 sec than the latest event(eg. 3 sec, robot A) of the same robot, the new event belongs to a new episode. Each episode should represent only one robot (eg. 2sec, robotA and 3sec, robotB should output 2 episodes) Input data: Event Time Robot Position 1 1 A 0 2 2 A 1 3 6 A 2 Output data should be: Array[0]={Event 1,Event 2} Array[1]={Event 3} //more than 3 sec Input data: Event Time Robot Position 1 1 A 0 2 2 A 1 3 4 B 0 4 6 A 2 Output data should be: Array[0]={Event 1,Event 2} Array[1]={Event 3} //different robot Array[2]={Event 4} Please help provide suggestions. I have tried using mulitple listeners, one for each robot, to create episodes and it works but I am trying to use a single EPL statement to do it. I have tried win:time_accum(3sec) group by robot but the second example output: Array[0]={Event 1,Event 2, Event 4} Array[1]={Event 3} as the time window is shifted everytime an event comes in, the system still thinks that event 4 is less than 3 sec due to event 3. how do I create a unique time window for each robot?     Hi! I'm havin issues with python (imo python itself is an issue). I have a txt file, it contains a custom language and I have to translate it to a working python code. The out file is out.py. In case of a wrong parameter, it gives an error message. The ;; means a new line. When I tried to do it, I made an array, I read all the lines into it, split by " ". Then I wanted to strip it from the marks I don't need. I made 2 loops, one for the lines, one for the words. So then I started to replace the things. Everything went fine until it came to the } mark. It finds it, but it can not replace or strip it. I have no more idea what to do. Could someone help me, please? Thanks in advance!

Ideally, I'd like to further limit the subsets so that, for each subset x of foobar, the sum of all f.bar in x (where f is a model of type Foo) is between some maximum and minimum value. So, for example, given the following instance of foobar: >> print foobar [<Foo: 5>, <Foo: 10>, <Foo: 15>] And min=5, max=25, I'd like to build an object (preferably a QuerySet, but possibly a list) that looks like this: [[<Foo: 5>], [<Foo: 10>], [<Foo: 15>], [<Foo: 5>, <Foo: 10>], [<Foo: 5>, <Foo: 15>], [<Foo: 10>, <Foo: 15>]] I've experimented with itertools but it doesn't seem particularly well-suited to my needs. I think this could be accomplished with a complex QuerySet but I'm not sure how to start.

(I want to become more familiar with the language to understand someone else's code - SCID chess) The task i've set myself to motivate my learing of Tcl is to solve the 8 queens problem. My approach to creating a program is to sucessively 'prototype' a solution. So. I'm up to nesting a for loop holding the q pos on row 2 inside the for loop holding the q pos on row 1 Here is my code set allowd 1 set notallowd 0 for {set r1p 1} {$r1p <= 8} {incr r1p } { puts "1st row q placed at $r1p" ;# re-initialize r2 'free for q placemnt' array after every change of r1 q pos: for {set i 1 } {$i <= 8} {incr i} { set r2($i) $allowd } for { set r2($r1p) $notallowd ; set r2([eval $r1p-1]) $notallowd ; set r2([eval $r1p+1]) $notallowd ; set r2p 1} {$r2p <= 8} { incr r2p ;# end of 'next' arg of r2 forloop } ;# commnd arg of r2 forloop placed below: {puts "2nd row q placed at $r2p" } } My problem is that when i run the code the interpreter is aborting with the fatal error: "wrong #args should be for start test next command. I've gone over my code a few times and can't see that i've missed any of the for loop arguments.
