• Video for HTML5 -- ffmpeg commands

  I'd like to allow my users to upload their videos (no clue what format they'll be) and convert them into the following formats: MP4 Ogg Webm I think it's those 3 formats I need in order to support HTML5, at least per http://mediaelementjs.com/. I've tried various commands that I found on the web. Some of them worked, some of them used old syntax, some of them worked only on my computer and not others, some of them gave conflicting information, etc. Are there any FFMPEG experts here that can provide the "proper" commands? I'm not particularly trying to achieve anything special. I just want to be able to convert the video into something playable on the web. Highest quality, smallest filesize, etc. are the basic goals. Something that works without a lot of special configurations would be ideal, too. I ran into a lot of "missing presets" problems.

• Disabling weak ciphers on Windows 2003

  For PCI-DSS compliance you have to disable weak ciphers. PCI-DSS permits a minimum cipher size of 128 bits. However for the highest score (0 I believe) you should only accept 168 bit ciphers but you can still be compliant if you permit 128 bit ciphers. The trouble is that when we disable all but 168 bit encryption it seems to disable both inbound and out bound secure channels. For example we'd like to lock down inbound IIS HTTPS to 168 bit ciphers but permit outbound 128 bit SSL connections to payment gateways/services from service applications running on the server (not all payment gateways support 168 bit only we just found out today). Is it possible to have cipher asymmetry on Windows 2003? I am told it is all or nothing.

• How to restore default iPod playlists on Amarok?

  I wanted to "reset" the collection on my iPod and ended up accidentally deleting, through Amarok, all the playlists, including the default ones like "Most Played" and "Highest Rated". Since these are dynamic playlists with a special meaning for iPod, I don't think creating new, normal playlists with the same name will bring their special behavior back. How do I restore them with the same dynamic functionality? Is there a way to do that on Amarok? Rhythmbox? GTKPod? Command line? P.S.: not entirely sure what the policy about iPod questions are, but this one in particular seems to me to be very computer-related because, although it's about interfacing with a device, everything has to be done on my computer, using standard PC libraries/programs, etc. If it's still off-topic, please point me to where I could post it.

• Engineers are using explosives to remove hard rock outside our office building. What countermeasures should we take?

  Our building is located approx. 100 meters from the explosive charges. They happen several times per day, and really shake the entire building a lot. This is going to go on for many days and the blasts are supposed to get stronger. Our server rooms are nothing fancy; one of them has all the racks on hard concrete while the other one has a raised floor (the one which allows the cables to go beneath it). Does anyone have any tips, countermeasures or best practices for us? Currently we are thinking of the following countermeasures: Daily report of the server rooms status lights (HD lights, power supplies and so on). • Quiet Sound while recording using the "Stereo Mix" option on Windows XP.

  I'm trying to record some of my work, and the video capture program I'm using works fine. It's HyperCam2, and since it's not really professional, I don't care about that little thing in the corner. Anyways, If I check the record sound option and put it on the highest quality, and I want it to record the sounds playing from my computer, I have it record the "Stereo Mix" setting. However, after a quick test, I saw that even though my computer was at max volume, the recorded sound was very quiet, almost inaudible. Thinking it was just HyperCam, I downloaded Audacity, and only met similar results. • New Seagate GoFlex external hard drive reporting temperature 50C and higher--defective or normal?

  I have a brand-new Seagate GoFlex hard drive, and my SMART diagnostics program (CrystalDiskInfo) is warnings me that the drive is running too hot. The lowest reported temperature I've seen it is 48C, and the highest so far is 56C (all of last week, it was at 50C). According to several sources I've found online, including a Google study, hard disks operating higher than 40C have shorter lifespans. The temperature in the room is usually about 23C (74F), and orienting the drive vertically vs. horizontally doesn't seem to affect the operating temperature. Does anyone else have a GoFlex external desktop drive that runs at 40C or cooler? Is my drive just defective, or is this high temperature common for these drives?

Features it needs to have: should NOT display the keyboard layout on the screen! should give detailed statistics which actually measure progress (for which key do I have the highest error rate, graphs showing how typing speed improved over time, etc) should enable me to actually learn touch-typing in about one long weekend were I don't do much else than learning to touch-type. it would be very good if it were possible to load a text-file and the program will use words from the text-file for the exercises as well My goals are: at least same typing speed as I have now but which touch-typing, want to be able to look at the screen only when typing P.S.: EDIT: I forgot to mention, I'm using Win 7. • Remote Desktop not following display settings

  I have my RDP client set up to use highest settings for connecting to another PC on my LAN, which has display settings 1280x1024x32bit. RDP is specifically set to use 32bit depth, but when I connect it drops to 16bit. The PC I connect to is (amongst other things) used to do some 3D graphics. I don't expect great performance, just to check it works... but it doesn't over RDP, the 3D app doesn't think the hardware is the same. Does RDP's integration with Windows mean it is providing some virtualised rendering system? Should I use something less 'clever' like VNC, to literally screen-grab the contents of the screen without altering the settings?

• Saving a Word document as Web Page, Filtered drastically reduces image resolution

  I have a document with hundreds of images. When I save the first image (right click and save picture) it ends up with a good resolution as shown below: However, when I save the document as Web Page, Filtered, all the images end up really low-res. Here's the exact same image afterwards: I've tried the following options in the Save As dialog with no luck: In Tools > Web Options... > Pictures > Target Monitor I've set the Pixels Per Inch to the highest value, 120. In Tools > Compress Pictures > Target Output I've set it to Print (220 ppi). Any ideas would be appreciated.

I would like it to search through all the lines in column A, to find something that has that name in it, then it should count the number of people, and come out with the number (in how many) the "middle price" I want it to take the price of B (depending on where it found it called headphones) and take the average price of it. In secured, as I would like it to count how many of them (from the number, or from the beginning) that have "secured" as "no" and "yes." I would like to use this on several things. For what is marked in pink: Where would I find the average price of all the goods, and what the name of the particular item is? Same with the highest and lowest price. How can I do this?

  I bought this ASUS Sabertooth X58 motherboard from http://msy.com.au/product.jsp?productId=7301 But I'm not sure what DDR3 RAM to buy. I haven't built a PC from scratch in about 3 years, and I'm wondering the following Do DDR3 ram chips need to be installed in three at a time? Or can I just install one or two now and install more later without any particular pattern? If I buy 2000MHz RAM from Corsair, will that work at 1866 MHz? (which is the highest frequency the motherboard supports) Is it just me or is 1866 RAM not around? Any help is greatly appreciated.

  I run VM Ware Fusion 3 on a Mac Book Pro 17 hooked to a Dell 30 inch screen I CAN manage to get a Resolution of 2560 * 1600 on Mac OS X(MacBook Pro), but can't on Win 7 (on the exact same MacBook Pro) The highest resolution I can get on MS Win 7 is 2048 * 1536 (and I want to be able to set it to 2560 * 1600 to fully enjoy the real estate of my 30 inch screen!) • VMWare Host needing ESXi 5.0 - Running on a 2008 R2 Host?

  I have a VMWare image supplied by my Phone System provider which manages a contact management interface, they tell me that VMWare EsXi5.0 is the highest supported host. I'm used to MS HyperV and have no VMWare experiance. At present I have this guest running on a simple desktop PC running ESXi5.0.0, I'd idealy like to run this guest (it's Windows 7 with their software already installed and configured) on a Windows 2008R2 server I have available, as I said, I'm used to HyperV and I can't easily identify if there is a version of VMWare that supports ESXi5.0 guests that will run on a Windows 2008 R2 server host. Is there such a product, what's it called, and with one guest can I run it without purchasing a license? Thanks

  Intel® Core™ i7-640M (2.8~3.46GHz, 35W) w/4MB Cache - 2 Cores, 4 Threads - 2.5 GT/s SO i'm buying a new laptop, which i have not done in 6 years. So i am not familiar with any of these cpu specs. It was the highest option for intel for this laptop. So i am assuming it is somewhat fast. But i'd like to learn what these specs mean. Any help would be greatly appreciated. i am not really a computer guy but would love to learn about what I am buying. Thanks!

• Way to auto resize photos before uploaded to cloud service?

  I love using auto syncing services to have my photos taken with my smartphone stored on a cloud storage service. One problem though is that the photos are uploaded in high resolution and takes up a lot of space on the drive. I wonder if any one knows of a service/strategy to have the auto uploaded photo resized to have it occupy less space when auto stored? That is, without me having to take the photos with lesser quality, I still want photos taken with the highest quality since I may take a photo I really like.

• External monitor image not centered in the screen

  I'm using Xorg 7.5 on a Radeon HD4870 with the FOSS radeonhd server on my HP 6830s. The laptop has a VGA connector and I attach it to a 37" panasonic plasma TV. It works fine except for a little annoyance: when activated, the TV screen is set to the resolution of 1360x768 (which it reports as being the highest it supports) but all the image is shifted by about 100 pixels to the right. I can't see the leftmost part of the page, and I have a black vertical bar to the right. If I change the resolution to 1024x768 there is no shifting, the image fills the entire screen with no parts hidden, but at this resolution the image is stretched. How can I tune the position on the external monitor so that the image is centered in the screen filling it entirely?

• A home router for torrents, gaming, webbing and detailed QoS [closed]

  I want to plug in an external HD on it to torrent up never ending (mostly for seeding), with lowest priority. It should even automatically completely stop if it disturbs my net usage, and go back in later. And I want to be able to give gaming (or my computer) the highest priority, because of its ping requirements. It should be above even of Skype and any voip, which also have high priority. Web surfing and "youtubing" comes in the middle - it won't matter much if it delays a second or two. Finally, interface as simple as possible. It's fine if it's command line setup, but it needs to have a GUI. What are my options for routers / firmwares as described? Maybe Gargoyle? Or even Time Capsule? It seems to me good old DD-WRT isn't the best option out there anymore. I wonder what else could cover these grounds.

  I have a script log file that looks a bit like this: 2012-9-16 Did something Did 345 things Script time: 244 seconds 2012-9-17 Did yet something Did another thing 23 times Script time: 352 seconds 2012-9-18 Did something special for 34 seconds 51 times Did nothing at all Script time: 122 seconds I would like to find the largest value of N in the lines Script time: N seconds. However, I need to keep the context, so simply removing all lines that don't contain Script time in them is not a viable solution. Currently, I am grepping for lines with Script time, then sorting those to find the highest value, then going back to the original file and searching for that value. However, if there is a more straightforward way then I would love to know. This is on Vim 7.3 on a recent CentOS. I would prefer to remain in VIM if possible. Thanks.

  Hi there, Layout: i have at customer side a server (win2003 R2 SP2 standard edition 32-bit) with a sql-server 2005 and some databases. This system starts with the /3GB-Switch. The system reports 3.25 GB RAM and taskmanager reports the process of sqlserver.exe with 2758255 K as the process with the highest consumption. The OS separates RAM for applications and for itself, normaly 50:50. But here we have the /3GB-Switch aktivated and i think the part for the applications is more than 50% of RAM. Knowledge (or better not knowledge): Somebody told me that if the OS runs out of memory within his part of RAM, the server runs into pressing mode. Questions: What is this pressing mode? Is pressing mode possible at all in this szenario? What should be done to get more performance out of this sql-server, beside optimizing the database and all this stuff.

  I need recommendations for a scalable web host for a high volume WordPress web site. For my purposes, high-volume might be 100K-500K visitors/hour. Might think towards a 1M/hour burst rate as a "high water mark." I know WP isn't the highest-performing platform out there (ha!), but it's non-negotiable. I can do "the usual optimizations" (e.g. put static files in a CDN, run and follow the advice of performance analyzers like YSlow, etc). But it will still be WordPress, and there will be a dozen or so plugins involved. So, where to host the site? Most "what's the best WordPress host?" discussions seem to focus on lowest-cost. I need the opposite. What are the high-volume, scalable, or clustered WordPress hosts with which you've had great experiences?

• Chipset GPU causes a massive slowdown

  My AMD Radeon HD 7700 recently broke (fan stopped working and GPU overheated), and now I'm running on internal chipset graphics, and it causes a massive slowdown of the whole PC. I've changed the graphics memory from 32MB (minimum) to 256MB (highest), and it hasn't made any difference whatsoever. I'm using Windows Aero, and disabling it should have made a small difference, but it didn't; the whole PC is still slow. I know that it's not the computer build, because I built it myself, and it was a lot faster when it had the AMD Radeon HD 7700 in it, which is the reason why I believe it's the internal chipset graphics that are causing the problem. Is this behavior normal? I don't have the cash right now to go out and buy a new dedicated GPU. I'm using an ASRock N68C-GS FX motherboard with an AMD FX 4100 (overclocked to 4.3GHZ), with 4GB RAM. The overclock was an attempt to resolve this issue, and it isn't related to this issue that the integrated graphics is causing a slowdown.

  I uploaded my video to youtube and the highest resolution it appears as is 360p. This is much lower than what I uploaded. I believe that youtube isn't making higher resolutions available for my video because of its aspect ratio. The video is 720x400. How can I convert this to a different aspect ratio without losing any of the picture or picture quality? I don't care if blank space appears around the video so long as the picture doesn't get stretched horizontally or vertically.

It is under Customization-Memory Management-ram & disk cache of giga tweaker. What will happen if I change the level cache size of l2 cache into the highest possible value which is 8Mb. What are the negative effects of doing it? The file system caching memory, still under Customization-Memory Management-ram & disk cache.   I'm trying to deploy a scheduled task with a GPO. The task is set to run at login and executes a batch file, which then executes an EXE file. However, I also need it to be interactive and run with admin privledges to bypass the UAC prompt for a username and password when the exe file runs. I created the task for "Vista and later". I've tried running the task as mydoman\administrator and as NT AUTHORITY\Authenticated users with "run only when user is logged in" and "run with highest privledges" selected. If I log in as anyone but administrator, the task does run in the background, as I can see the cmd.exe process running in task manager as mydomain\administrator. Only if I log in as administrator do I then see the cmd window with the batch script running. How can I get the cmd window to display no matter which user logs in?

• Need solutions in sharing a 3Mb/768Kbps DSL line to 60+ users and faster bandwidth

  Two parts. Part 1: We currently have 2 DSL Lines with 3Mb/768Kbps speeds load balanced for 60+ users. Accessing the Internet is borderline unusable. The simple solution would be to get a faster DSL Line but the highest DSL package is 6Mb/768Kbps, has quite the price jump, and doesn't do anything to help with upload speeds. I'm looking for free or extremely low cost solutions (web cache, traffic shaping, bandwidth controls, etc) to help with making Internet access more bearable until the next funding year. Can anyone give any advice? Part 2: We're looking into a 4.5Mb bonded T1 in the next funding year which is of course significantly more expensive than 2 DSL lines. Are bonded T1s our only hope for faster speeds? Are there any better alternatives?
