  I have a webpage ASP.NET in IIS 6. There a a lot of urls already indexed by google and links set in web-catalogs that looks like this www.mypage.com/directory1/page.aspx Now I changed this that the url looks like this: www.mypage.com/page.aspx I want the urls with the directory in the path to redirect to the urls without the directory, so that the links that are set and indexed can stay as they are. How can I achieve this with IIS 6.

  Application Server Windows Server 2003 SP2 with IIS 6.0 IIS has a "Default Web Site" (port 18000, ssl 443, ID=1) with a certificate created by me. I have an specific site called "scj.galaxy.Weekly" (port 80, ssl 443, ID=1272369728) that is working fine. I have an entry in windows/system32/drivers/etc/hosts that links galaxy.Weekly.scjdev.ds to the server ip in both my local machine and in the application Server. These sites works: http://scj.galaxy.weekly/test.html works http://scj.galaxy.weekly/test.aspx works But https://scj.galaxy.weekly/test.html fails Error message is: The connection was reset The connection to the server was reset while the page was loading. The certificate was working fine for months. It was created with something similar to this: Selfssl /N:CN=*.scjdev.ds /V:3650 /S:1 /P:443 I have tried several options and none of them are working: 1) Create a certificate only in "Default Web Site" and link it to SecureBindings with command prompt cscript adsutil.vbs set /w3svc/1272369728/SecureBindings ":443:galaxy.Weekly.scjdev.ds" 2) Create a certificate only in "Galaxy Site" and link it to SecureBindings 3) Create a certificate in both and link them to secureBindings. Probably I am missing an step or something, but I can't see it. • How do I stop my IIS App Pool making a request to wpad.mydomain.com?

  As part of some performance troubleshooting, I've monitored the slow startup of a "cold" App Pool (one without an active worker process) in IIS. When using a built-in account, the App Pool starts in sub-second time. When using a custom local account the App Pool takes 30+ seconds to start processing requests. The service appears to be making requests to wpad.mydomain.com, an address it does not have access to, which causes it to wait 30 seconds for a response before eventually timing out. As a workaround, I've added the hostname to the server's hosts file, to direct the traffic to the local machine, which returns much faster (1-2 seconds). What do I need to do to stop IIS making this request when this identity is used for the App Pool?

• Help: My SSL Certificate expired but I can't renew this weekend, is there a way I can disable SSL through IIS?

  Or perhaps force redirect to HTTP when they request HTTPS? I tried removing the SSL port settings under 'Advanced' but it broke the login page. I don't want to do a deploy/recompile right now but I am able to edit the VIEWS. However I am thinking there may be a way for IIS to do this, but then again I think the .NET code tries to force SSL. Crap. This is bull crap because I was bugging people about getting the new certificate since December and they were like oh we will take care of it... I think it may have even gotten to the point where they were getting annoyed with me hassling them about it! (rant over.) And yes, the key is that more support tickets will be caused by the browser giving a security error than if SSL was removed entirely for one day. Becaues they wouldn't very very likely not notice it being gone.

• Django on Windows 2003 Slow Initially

  I have setup Django to run on a windows 2003 server following the steps on the django wiki. Everything works fine and there are no errors. Only one instance of Django is setup on the server at the moment. However whenever the first page is requested it takes about 10 seconds to load the page. After this every page loads instantly. All my searches about speed issues with Django on windows refer to the local server, but not when using IIS and PyISAPIe. Thanks

  I have two applications, one of which is a store and is located under the virtual directory "store", while the main "application" is the parent website/application. However, when visiting the the top-level website address, I would like to start people in /store/default.aspx (technically "/store/home") but this is not allowed in the entry box in IIS. Currently I am doing the redirect manually in code, but was wondering if there was a way to do this in IIS or something. Thanks for any help.

• Firefox unable to load SSL Certificate Chain, while Chrome, IE do

  I created a certificate for our IIS 6 by sending a request (created with openssl) to our organization's CA. I already had trouble to integrate the private key into that certificate, that has been solved, see SO question IIS 6.0 now uses the certificate (with TSL v1 and SSL v3), that is the 4th in cert hierarchy. Now, if I access the intranet site, chrome accepts the certificate, so does IE, but Firefox complains about an insecure connection and wants me to add an exceptional rule. If I look into the certificate, how FF presents it to me, I cannot see any of the three issuers. How can this be? If I connect via openssl s_client -showcerts -connect... I only see my own certificate too, which is said to be not verified. I am quite confused now. Where's the mistake and how can I make FF accept certificate without forcing our users to add that exceptionrule? Maybe do I have to add all the three issuer certificates into cert store of the win2003 server that hosts IIS 6.0 ??

• IIS 6.0 :: SSL certificate install :: issue

  Certificate request process works fine. Once the certificate is received from VeriSign, the installation process also works fine (no errors.) However, once installed, the new certificate is not "assigned." Meaning, when I view the IIS instance security properties, it still shows the previous certificate start & end dates. Thoughts? Windows 2003, Web Edition. I have 3 other Win2003WE machines, configured nearly the same, and do not have this problem.

• When I remove the SSL port 443 from IIS my website stops loading, how can I have it just work with only port 80 and no SSL?

  I am trying to disable SSL, I delete the 443 port so there is only an entry for port 80 and now the site won't load at all. If I re-add the 443 configuration it loads fine. What is causing it to require that? Why can't I set it up to run without SSL? Instead of just failing it should just load the page without HTTPS. If I disable port 443 and then I browse via HTTP, it STILL fails even though I am not trying to use HTTPS. What gives? When/where/how does it decide to use SSL?

• How do I change the .NET Framework version of a virtual directory without the ASP.NET tab?

  I have a website running v2.0 but I want the virtual directory running under it to use v4.0. I've already set the virtual directory as an application and gave it it's own application pool. The server is running Windows Server 2003 SP2 (64-bit). However it has the Enable32BitAppOnWin64 flag enabled which means the ASP.NET tabs on the properties dialog of the websites/virtual directories are missing. .NET 4.0 is installed, aspnet_regiis -lv lists the 32-bit and 64-bit versions of .NET 2.0 and .NET 4.0 and the Web Server Extensions are enabled. I can't disable the Enable32BitAppOnWin64 flag to get the ASP.NET tab back, so is there a way to do this from the command line without potentially breaking something? I ran aspnet_regiis -lk to find the paths so I could try aspnet_regiis -sn, but it only returns one record W3SVC/ 2.0.50727.0 (There are 3 separate websites and a virtual directory running on the server though) How can I change the framework version of the virtual directory without the ASP.NET tab?

  I inherited a web application that makes calls to a web service. It is being developed in VS2008 SP1 and deployed to IIS6 (2k3 Server R2). Since I upgraded to Windows 7 Enterprise RTM, the following line gets added to my Web.config: <extendedProtectionPolicy policyEnforcement="Never" /> The problem is that when I deploy this application to my web server I get the following error: The element 'transport' cannot contain child element 'extendedProtectionPolicy' because the parent element's content model is empty I can remove the line and it will work, but its a pain and I forget sometimes to remove it again (VS2008 adds seems to add it back whenever I load the solution!!). • HttpRuntime.Cache scavenging default behavior?

  When adding items using the default insert method Insert(key, value) and as such using the default behavior of HttpRuntime.Cache, when does the scavenging take place? The limit on the application pool that hosts my application is 0 (unlimited)... but I see no way to find out how big the cache can get before scavenging occurs? The problem is I am caching a potentially very large amount of data but I have limited memory on the server and I want to avoid recycling of the app pool. I am asking in the context of IIS6 and IIS7.   Hi, I've set up a Mercurial server on a Windows 2003 / IIS 6 machine and when I try to pull the repository I get the following sequence requesting all changes adding changesets adding manifests adding file changes transaction abort! rollback completed abort: premature EOF reading chunk (got 91303 bytes, expected 1542634) I've tried pretty much everything I can think of, but with no success. I followed the steps of Jeremy Skinners guide on doing it for IIS7, but on an IIS6 server. I found a post where the author was experiencing the same issue, but was unable to find a solution. So far it looks like the solution is to migrate to Apache or upgrade to Windows 2008/II7 .. but if someone knows how to solve this, please let me know

  Is there a mechanism, or any additional tools that I can make use of to bulk import 301 redirect rules into an IIS6.0 web application? I want to be able to 301 redirect some old .htm pages to their new home on a CMS to ensure the current search index entries resolve OK and don't 404, but there are roughly ~50 pages. The only way I've found to achieve this is to create dummy .htm files and then right click on the file-File tab-Redirect to a URL radio button within the IIS MMC snapin, which is a little laborious over the number of pages. • Installing Wordpress - constant PHP/MySQL extension appears missing

  I've got Win2003 w/IIS6, PHP 5 and MySQL installed. I can confirm PHP is installed correctly because I have a testMe.php that runs properly. When I run the Wordpress setup, I get informed that Your PHP installation appears to be missing the MySQL extension which is required by WordPress. But in my PHP.ini in the DYNAMIC EXTENSIONS section I have extension=php_mysql.dll extension=php_mysqli.dll I verified that mysql.dll and libmysql.dll are both in my PHP directory. I copied my libmysql.dll to the C:\Windows\System32 directory. When I try to run the initial setup for WordPress, I get this answer. I've Googled setting this up, and everything comes down to the above. I'm missing something, but none of the instructions that I've found online seem to cover whatever that is.

  I was following Steven Sanderson's 'Pro ASP.NET MVC Framework' book. On page 132, in accordance with the author's recommendation, I downloaded the ASP.NET MVC Futures assembly, and added it to my MVC project. Then, without encouragement from the author, I downloaded, installed, and incorporated the ASP.NET MVC2 Preview 1 dlls into my project. Now, I can no longer load the website. That is, when I hit F5 in Visual Studio, I get this error. In retrospect, I think it was a really bad idea to assume that ASP.NET MVC2 Preview 1 would only be additive; but I'd like other people to weigh in. Has anyone noticed any breaking changes in ASP.NET MVC 2 Preview 1? Also - Has anyone noticed any changes that impact Castle Windsor? Also, please let me know if I should be mindful of IIS6 vs. IIS7 ramifications.

• IIS 6 session timing out a lot quicker than expected

  I am working with an web application that has its sessions timing out a lot quicker than expected. We expected a timeout of 15 minutes but it's timing out at 3-4 minutes. Info about environment: IIS6 classic ASP / COM+ app timeout OK on current PROD, much quicker in dev / QA environments We already disabled app pool recycling, and even put IIS in isolation mode - no effect HTTP err log doesn't display any lines when session times out We've done a close comparison of PROD and DEV / QA environments, and given we use virtual machines on all of them, settings should be preserved. I tried to find IIS blog notes from David Wang but many of them now have HTTP 404 errors, and I don't know what else to do. Please help! At the very least, is there a way to get IIS to log every time a session expires? At the very least some means of logging / debugging IIS would be useful. Thanks in advance.

  Is it possible to rewrite somehow www.mysite.com/Pictures to point to test.mysite.com/Pictures or even more broadly www.someothersite.com/Pictures ? Note: www.mysite.com and test.mysite.com are on separate machines and built with different technologies (one is ASP.NET and the other is PHP) but I have access to both of them. I want that when I reference a picture like www.mysite.com/Pictures/pic12345.png the picture to display correctly, even though there is not /Pictures folder on that server and the pictures has to be retrieved by going to test.mysite.com/Picture/pic12345.png Ideally I want to do this in IIS6 to test it. However I am interested if it possible to do in any webserver (Apache, IIS7)

• Application loses authentication when performing redirect to a virtual directory

  I have the following setup: http://www.example.com/dir1/ and http://www.example.com/dir2/ Each virtual directory is configured on IIS6.0 as an application with own AppPool. When redirecting authenticated user from dir1 to dir2 using response.redirect I lose authentication information for the user and the user is being redirected to the login page. This issue was not coming up with each app (dir1 and dir2) were configured under subdomain, ex: http://dir1.example.com and http://dir2.example.com. I have resolved the issue by adding a machine key to the machine.config file. Can someone explain to me why it's not working on a http://www.example.com/dir1 configuration?
