    I'm using PHP to upload an image from a form to the server and want to rename the image lastname_firstname.[original extension]. I currently have: move_uploaded_file($_FILES["picture"]["tmp_name"], "peopleimages/" . "$_POST[lastname]" . '&#95;' . "$_POST[firstname]") which, of course, renames the file lastname_firstname without an extension. How do I rename the file but keep the extension? Thanks!

    My application is suppose to constantly update the page without any user interaction. The criteria is that the page just has to be there, as an extra window on the monitor so the user can see the information get updated real time. I'm using the Ajax in jQuery with Rails, and my question is - how long will the .erb page keep Ajax open? Will there be a point where I have to refresh the page or re-initialize? Or will that won't be a problem at all?

My input is EFUAHUU UUUEUUUUH UJUJHHACDEFUCU Expected output is EFUAH UEH UJHACDEF I cam across perl -pe's/$1//gwhile/(.).*\/' which is wonderful but it is removing even the single occurence of the character in output.   • Camping: Return user to recent entries, but keep errors

    Users can view a specific entry in my webapp with a URL. /entry/8, for example. If an entry doesn't exist, "Entry not found" gets appended to @messages and I render an error page. I'd like to redirect the user to /recent, but I can't figure out a good way to keep the error message around to be displayed. There are other actions that need to take place in the Recent controller, so I can't just duplicate the query and render :posts.

    I'd like to do a Regex.Split on some separators but I'd like to keep the separators. To give an example of what I'm trying: "abc[s1]def[s2][s3]ghi" --> "abc", "[s1]", "def", "[s2]", "[s3]", "ghi" The regular expression I've come up with is new Regex("\\[|\\]|\\]\\["). However, this gives me the following: "abc[s1]def[s2][s3]ghi" --> "abc", "s1", "def", "s2", "", "s3", "ghi" The separators have disappeared (which makes sense given my regex). Is there a way to write the regex so that the separators themselves are preserved?

    Hi everyone, I hope you can help. I'm very new to jQuery and am working on a five- or six-level accordion menu for my side navigation. I got the majority of the code I have so far from Dane Peterson @ daneomatic.com (thanks Dane!). But, I'm stuck on one thing: I'd like to have my accordion/tree work like this: When I navigate down into, say, level three, and click on the link to open the page linked to that level, how do I indicate once the level three page loads that I'm on that page? Also, how do I keep the tree open to that level when I load the page? I guess what I'm asking is: is there a way for the accordion/tree to automatically update to show what page you're at, and have the tree open to that level? Thanks in advance!

    Hi, I am trying to convert a string encoded in java in UTF-8 to ISO-8859-1. Say for example, in the string 'âabcd' 'â' is represented in ISO-8859-1 as E2. In UTF-8 it is represented as two bytes. C3 A2 I believe. When I do a getbytes(encoding) and then create a new string with the bytes in ISO-8859-1 encoding, I get a two different chars. â. Is there any other way to do this so as to keep the character the same i.e. âabcd?

    I have an edit view that is displaying some model properties as plain text and other model properties as input fields. My problem is that the model properties displayed as plain text are null when the model is returned to the view after a validation error. How do I retain the model values when I don't have input fields for all properties? What is best practice?     Is there a way to keep a window inactive looking, even if it contains focus? I have two forms (A and B). After the user interacts with A, I transfer focus back to B. The result of the focus transfers (the user clicking on the A, then focus being transferred back to B) is that form A blinks from active to inactive. This looks ugly (especially on Vista where A momentarily gets a bigger shadow). How can I make A stay inactive looking so this blinking will not happen?

    Hi, in all (Agile) articles i read about this: keep your code and functions small and easy to test. How should i do this with the 'controller' or 'coordinator' class? In my situation, i have to import data. In the end i have one object who coordinates this, and i was wondering if there is a way of keeping the coordinator lean(er) and mean(er). My coordinator now does the followling (pseudocode) //Write to the log that the import has started Log.StartImport() //Get the data in Excel sheet format result = new Downloader().GetExcelFile() //Log this step Log.LogStep(result ) //convert the data to intern objects result = new Converter().Convertdata(result); //Log this step Log.LogStep(result ) //write the data result = Repository.SaveData(result); //Log this step Log.LogStep(result ) Imho, this is one of those 'know all' classes or at least one being 'not lean and mean'? Or, am i taking this lean and mean thing to far and is it impossible to program an import without some kind of 'fat' importer/coordinator? Michel
