  • JSON - Php/SQL iPhone APP Questions/Help

    - by chance
Hey group, first time posting here I am somewhat new to the JSON/PHP/mySQL world, but been around iPhone designing for the past few years, though this topic of conversation is a while new area I am entering. I have done JSON iPhone examples that allow me to create a UITableView and display the JSON data into the TableViewCells (CustomCells) and displays the data (NSDictionary)into UILabels The problem I am having now, is that I want an APP that displays this information from the JSON into just a couple of UILabel's on a regular UIViewController and not a UITableView any help would greatly be appreciated, the example I used and learned for JSON and UITABLE was from http://tempered.mobi/%20 I used that example from my app, but incorporated a few other things like CUSTOM cells however now when the USER selects the specific CELL I want it to load specific data from another JSON file, and cannot get it to load in a UILabel or UITextView in a UIViewController HELP :-)

    - by ramya
Hi, I am getting results from JSON, NSDictionary *pname=[[res objectAtIndex:i] objectForKey:@"ax21:productName"]; NSString *str = [pname objectForKey:@"$"]; i++; [detArray addObject:str]; [tblviewhome reloadData]; and calling it in table like cell.textLabel.text = [detArray objectAtIndex:indexPath.section]; this displays data in 4 sections. This is displaying data perfectly . JSON connectivity and table are in same class. but how to access this data in another table which is in another view controller. I hope i made my self clear.

  • Is there a name for a pure-data Objective-C class?

    - by BrianEnigma
This is less of a code-specific question and more of an Objective-C nomenclature question. In C you have struct for pure data. In Enterprise Java, you have "bean" classes that are purely member variables with getters and setters, but no business logic. In Adobe FLEX, you have "Value Objects". In Objective-C, is there a proper name for an object (descended from NSObject, of course) that simply has ivars and getters/setters (or @property/@synthesize, if you want to get fancy) and no real business logic? A more concrete example might be a simple class with getters and setters for filename, file size, description, and assorted other metadata. You could then take a bunch of these and easily throw them into a container (NSDictionary, NSArray) without the need for messy NSValue wrapping of a C struct. It is also a little more structure than putting, say, a bunch of loosely-typed child NSDictionaries into a parent container object.

  • FJSTransitionController setup and use in View Controller not main app delegate

    - by elliotrock
I am trying to set up Corey Floyd's FJSTransitionController. My app uses a main view controller to manage the main view navigation. I also went through the source to fix it for ARC. Followed instructions and in my main delegate .h I have in the usual spots: FJTransitionController* mainTransitionController; @property (nonatomic, retain) FJTransitionController* mainTransitionController; delegate .m has the following @synthesize mainTransitionController And in the - (BOOL)application:(UIApplication *)application didFinishLaunchingWithOptions:(NSDictionary *)launchOptions mainTransitionController=[[FJTransitionController alloc] init]; // do I need to instantise? [self.window addSubview:mainTransitionController.view]; [mainTransitionController setViewControllerClass:[[mainViewController sendMissionsPanelViewController] class] forKey:@"missionView"]; The last line is complaining that there is no @interface for FJTransitionController? Any help please.

  • How to notify ViewController on parse end with multiple ViewControllers using a single parser.

    - by objneodude
Hello, I have created a RSS parser and 3 TableViews and it parses the RSS files fine but I don't know how to notify the TableViewController when parsing has ended so it can update the view. The TableViewController initiates the parser and the parsing of a feed. parser = [[RSSParser alloc] initWithURL:@"http://randomfeed.com"]; I can access the single feed items like [parser feedItems]; In parser.m i have implemented the delegate methods of NSXMLParser: - (void)parser:(NSXMLParser *)parser didStartElement:(NSString *)elementName namespaceURI:(NSString *)namespaceURI qualifiedName:(NSString *)qualifiedName attributes:(NSDictionary *)attributeDict - (void)parser:(NSXMLParser *)parser foundCharacters:(NSString *)string - (void)parser:(NSXMLParser *)parser didEndElement:(NSString *)elementName - (void)parserDidEndDocument:(NSXMLParser *)parser So how do i get parserDidEndDocument to notify my controllers so i can add the data to the tableview. Cheers from a obj-c beginner.

Why is that?

  • How to set Main Inerface in xCode programatically

    - by Tom Tallak Solbu
I am using Apples MultipleDetailViews http://developer.apple.com/library/ios/#samplecode/MultipleDetailViews/Introduction/Intro.html for template as a source for my iPad app. The template is using a splitviewController in the interface builder (MainWindow). In the iPhone/iPad Deployment info of the target, MainWindow is set as the "Main Interface". I want my app to also run on iPhone. This means I need to load a different xib when the app is run on an iPhone. I must then remove "MainWindow" from "Main Interface" because the app will crash when I load on an iPhone due to the splitViewController. The AppDeleagte of the template look like this: - (BOOL)application:(UIApplication *)application didFinishLaunchingWithOptions:(NSDictionary *)launchOptions { self.window = [[[UIWindow alloc] initWithFrame:[[UIScreen mainScreen] bounds]]; self.window.rootViewController = self.splitViewController; [self.window makeKeyAndVisible]; } If I remove "Main Window" from "Main Interface", how do I then need to change the APpDelegate, or maybe I need to change the MainWindow.xib to also work for iPhone?

  • Capture Video in iPhone

    - by Timmi
Hi, I used the following code to record video. UIImagePickerController *m_objpicker;=[[UIImagePickerController alloc] init]; m_objpicker.sourceType = UIImagePickerControllerSourceTypeCamera; m_objpicker.mediaTypes = [NSArray arrayWithObject:(NSString *)kUTTypeMovie]; // hide the camera controls //picker.showsCameraControls=NO; m_objpicker.delegate = self; //picker.allowsImageEditing = NO; m_objpicker.allowsEditing=NO; // and put our overlay view in //picker.cameraOverlayView=m_objOverlayView; [self presentModalViewController:m_objpicker animated:YES]; When we finish recording (void)imagePickerController:(UIImagePickerController *)picker didFinishPickingMediaWithInfo:(NSDictionary *)info{ NSURL *m_objMediaURL=[info objectForKey:UIImagePickerControllerMediaURL]; [m_objpicker dismissModalViewControllerAnimated:YES]; } My doubt is, how to save the captured video to a location we specify. Also how to use UISaveVideoAtPathToSavedPhotosAlbum . What all things i need to change in my code so that i can save video to a specified location Thanks,

  • Why this kind of release doesn't work?

    - by parkyprg
Hello, I have a newbie question about the following: - (NSString *)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView titleForHeaderInSection:(NSInteger)section { NSArray *anArray; anArray = [dictionary objectForKey: [NSString stringWithFormat:@"%d", section]]; //here dictionary is of type NSDictionary, initialized in another place. AnObject *obj = [[AnObject alloc] init]; obj = [anArray objectAtIndex:0]; [anArray release]; return obj.title; } If I run it as it is I will get an error. If I don't put [anArray release] it works just fine. I don't quite understand why is this happening? Thanks.

  • AppDelegate, RootViewController, and UIApplication

    - by guy8214
Hi Guys I am trying to figure out the relationship between the appdelegate, RootViewControoler, and UIApplication. Here is what I kinda have figured out so far: When starting your application up, main.m gets loaded. From here, your MainWindow.xib gets loaded. In your MainWindow.xib, your File's Owner is of type UIApplication. You set your UIApplication's delegate to your AppDelegate. In your AppDelegate's source code, you can set your RootViewController to be the first view shown. Is this right? What prompts AppDelegate to initially run it's - (BOOL)application:(UIApplication *)application didFinishLaunchingWithOptions:(NSDictionary *)launchOptions { } method?

  • How do I use a default setting from Root.plist?

    - by crooksy88
I have set up a default setting for my app using Root.plist, giving this a Boolean DefaultValue of YES (ticked checkbox). You can see a screengrab at http://www.infin8design.com/clients/stack/plist.png However, when my app is first launched, the YES value is not picked up, and the setting is read as a NO (or 0). The user has to manually go into the settings app, turn the toggleswitch off, then turn it back on again for this setting to hold a YES(1) value. I'm logging the value with appDidFinishLaunching like this. - (BOOL)application:(UIApplication *)application didFinishLaunchingWithOptions:(NSDictionary *)launchOptions { NSUserDefaults *defaults = [NSUserDefaults standardUserDefaults]; NSLog(@"%d",[defaults boolForKey:@"include_phrases"]); SO... my question is... How do I pick up this initial default setting without the user having to set it manually? Thanks in advance for any suggestions you can offer. Mark

I know how to upload images to a server running PHP, but I am stuck on uploading video. I have used this advice to upload my video file. Posting method is all ok. What I get on the server is a file of 0 bytes. My code is below: - (void)imagePickerController:(UIImagePickerController *)picker didFinishPickingMediaWithInfo:(NSDictionary *)info { NSURL *videoURL = [info objectForKey:UIImagePickerControllerMediaURL]; NSData *videoData = [NSData dataWithContentsOfFile:[videoURL path]]; } This videoData is passed in my POST method. What should I do instead?

  • problems programmatically creating UIView on iPad App

    - by user3871
I have been struggling with this problem for a few days. My iPad app is designed to be a portrait game. To satisfy Apple's expection, I also support landscape mode. When it goes into landscape mode, the game goes into a letterbox format with back borders on the sides. My problem is I am creating the UIWindow and UIView programmatically. For some unkown reason, the touch controls are "locked" in to think I'm always in landscape mode. And even though visually in portrait mode everything looks correct, the top and bottom of the screen does not respond to touch. To summarize how I am setting this up, let me provide the skeletal framework of what I'm doing: in main.cpp: int retVal = UIApplicationMain(argc, argv, nil, @"derbyPoker_ipadAppDelegate"); In the delegate, I am doing this: - (BOOL)application:(UIApplication *)application didFinishLaunchingWithOptions:(NSDictionary *)launchOptions { CGRect screenBounds = [[UIScreen mainScreen] bounds]; CGFloat scale = [[ UIScreen mainScreen] scale ]; m_device_width = screenBounds.size.width; m_device_height = screenBounds.size.height; m_device_scale = scale; // Everything is built assuming 640x960 window = [[ UIWindow alloc ] initWithFrame:[[UIScreen mainScreen] bounds]]; viewController = [ glView new ]; [self doStateChange:[blitz class]]; return YES; } The last bit of code sets up the UIView... - (void) doStateChange: (Class) state{ viewController.view = [[state alloc] initWithFrame:CGRectMake(0, 0, m_device_width, m_device_height) andManager:self]; viewController.view.contentMode = UIViewContentModeScaleAspectFit; viewController.view.autoresizesSubviews = YES; [window addSubview:viewController.view]; [window makeKeyAndVisible]; } The problem seems to related to the line viewController.view.contentMode = UIViewContentModeScaleAspectFit; If I remove that line, touch works correctly in portrait mode. But the negative is when I'm landscape mode, the game stretches incorrectly. So That's not a option. The frustrating thing is, when I originally had this set up with a NIB file, it worked fine. I have read through the docs about UIWindow, UIViewController and UIView and have tried about everything to no avail. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • MPNowPlayingInfoCenter defaultCenter will not update or retrieve information

    - by Jayson Lane
I'm working to update the MPNowPlayingInfoCenter and having a bit of trouble. I've tried quite a bit to the point where I'm at a loss. The following is my code: self.audioPlayer.allowsAirPlay = NO; Class playingInfoCenter = NSClassFromString(@"MPNowPlayingInfoCenter"); if (playingInfoCenter) { NSMutableDictionary *songInfo = [[NSMutableDictionary alloc] init]; MPMediaItemArtwork *albumArt = [[MPMediaItemArtwork alloc] initWithImage:[UIImage imageNamed:@"series_placeholder"]]; [songInfo setObject:thePodcast.title forKey:MPMediaItemPropertyTitle]; [songInfo setObject:thePodcast.author forKey:MPMediaItemPropertyArtist]; [songInfo setObject:@"NCC" forKey:MPMediaItemPropertyAlbumTitle]; [songInfo setObject:albumArt forKey:MPMediaItemPropertyArtwork]; [[MPNowPlayingInfoCenter defaultCenter] setNowPlayingInfo:songInfo]; } This isn't working, I've also tried: [[MPNowPlayingInfoCenter defaultCenter] setNowPlayingInfo:nil]; In an attempt to get it to remove the existing information from the iPod app (or whatever may have info there). In addition, just to see if I could find out the problem, I've tried retrieving the current information on app launch: NSDictionary *info = [[MPNowPlayingInfoCenter defaultCenter] nowPlayingInfo]; NSString *title = [info valueForKey:MPMediaItemPropertyTitle]; NSString *author = [info valueForKey:MPMediaItemPropertyArtist]; NSLog(@"Currently playing: %@ // %@", title, author); and I get Currently playing: (null) // (null) I've researched this quite a bit and the following articles explain it pretty thoroughly, however, I am still unable to get this working properly. Am I missing something? Would there be anything interfering with this? Is this a service something my app needs to register to access (didn't see this in any docs)? Apple's Docs Change lock screen background audio controls Now playing info ignored UPDATE: I've created a tutorial outlining how I was able to get this functioning properly: http://jaysonlane.net/tech-blog/2012/04/lock-screen-now-playing-with-mpnowplayinginfocenter/

  • How to delete row in TTTableViewController (Three20)

    - by Dmitry
Hi, The Three20 is great library. It's making the work with tables very easy. But one gap that I noticed - is deletion of rows, with animation. I spent many hours trying to do this, and this is what I'm doing: // get current index patch UITableView* table = [super tableView]; NSIndexPath *indexPath = [table indexPathForSelectedRow]; //delete row in data source TTListDataSource * source = (TTListDataSource *)self.dataSource; [source.items removeObjectAtIndex:indexPath.row]; // delete row from the table, with animation [table deleteRowsAtIndexPaths:[NSArray arrayWithObject:indexPath] withRowAnimation:UITableViewRowAnimationFade]; After this code runs the error appears: [NSCFArray objectAtIndex:]: index (0) beyond bounds (0) I'm using the class inherited from the TTTableViewController. And I doesn't implement the DataSourceDelegate or TableViewDelegate because I'm using the Three20 as much as possible. So, this is how I create datasource: for(NSDictionary *album in (NSArray *)albums){ TTTableRightImageItem *item = [TTTableRightImageItem itemWithText:@"name" imageURL:@"image url" defaultImage:nil imageStyle:TTSTYLE(rounded) URL:@"url of selector where I actually catch the tap on a row"]; [tableItems addObject:item]; } self.dataSource = [TTListDataSource dataSourceWithItems:tableItems]; I read this article (article) but it doesn't help :( So, I know that this is very simple for gurus from this site. Can you just give me advanced sample of how to do this Thanks

  • String formatting in cocoa

    - by lostInTransit
Hi I am trying to send some text in an email from my cocoa app (by using Mail.app). Initially I tried using HTML to send properly formatted text. But the mailto: URL does not support html tags (even after setting headers) So I decided to use formatted string (left-aligning of string) This is what I have in my mailto: link's body argument NSMutableString *emailBody = [NSMutableString stringWithFormat:@"|%-35s", [@"Name" UTF8String]]; [emailBody appendFormat:@"|%-18s", [@"Number" UTF8String]]; [emailBody appendString:@"|Notes\n"]; [emailBody appendString:@"----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------"]; for(int i = 0; i < [items count]; i++){ NSDictionary *props = [items objectAtIndex:i]; NSMutableString *emailData = [NSMutableString stringWithFormat:@"|%-35s", [[props valueForKey:@"name"] UTF8String]]; [emailData appendFormat:@"|$ %-16s", [[props valueForKey:@"number"] UTF8String]]; [emailData appendString:[props valueForKey:@"notes"]]; [emailBody appendString:@"\n"]; [emailBody appendString:emailData]; } This does give me padded text but they all don't necessarily take up the same space (for instance if there is an O in the text, it takes up more space than others and ruins the formatting) Is there another sure-shot way to format text using just NSString? Thanks

  • xml parsing using nsxmlParser in iphone

    - by filthynight
hi all, I have a problem in parsing xml from google api, the api xml looks like this ....... Now the problem is that first of all, the tags are different, like first parent tag name is "abc" and second parent tag is "efg", further more the inner tags are different as well. i have modified code got from web that it parses another url, but in this case since the tags keeps on changing it does not work. the url = "http://www.google.com/ig/api?weather=anaheim,ca" Source Code (void)parser:(NSXMLParser *)parser didStartElement:(NSString *)elementName namespaceURI:(NSString *)namespaceURI qualifiedName:(NSString *)qName attributes:(NSDictionary *)attributeDict{ //NSLog(@"found this element: %@", elementName); if (currentElement) { [currentElement release]; currentElement = nil; } currentElement = [elementName copy]; NSString *thisOwner = [attributeDict objectForKey:@"data"]; NSLog(@"element Name-------: %@", thisOwner); if ([elementName isEqualToString:@"forecast_information"]) //|| [elementName isEqualToString:@"current_conditions"] || [elementName isEqualToString:@"forecast_conditions"]) { // clear out our story item caches... //NSString *nm = [[attributeDict objectForKey:@"city"] stringValue]; //NSLog(@"value...%@",nm); item = [[NSMutableDictionary alloc] init]; currentTitle = [[NSMutableString alloc] init]; currentDate = [[NSMutableString alloc] init]; currentSummary = [[NSMutableString alloc] init]; currentLink = [[NSMutableString alloc] init]; [item setObject:currentLink forKey:@"postal_code"]; [item setObject:currentSummary forKey:@"current_date_time"]; [item setObject:currentDate forKey:@"unit_system"]; NSLog(@"adding story: %@", currentTitle); [stories addObject:[item copy]]; } } I have another function didEndElement where the values are assigned in the array, but i could not figure out how to assign values of an attribute. Can somebody please help me in this regards Thanks!

  • How does [self.tableView reloadData] know what data to reload?

    - by Scott Pendleton
It bugs me to death that my viewcontroller, which happens to be a tableViewController, knows without being told that its property that is an NSArray or an NSDictionary holds the data that is to be loaded into the table for display. Seems like I should explicitly say something like: [self.tableView useData:self.MyArray]; Because, THAT'S WHAT I WANT TO DO! I want to have more than one array inside my tableViewController, and switch between one and the other programmatically. Please do not give me an answer like: "Never mind what you want to do, just set up two different tableViewControllers." No. I want to do it my way. I notice that when a tableViewController makes use of a searchViewController, you can do this: if (tableView == self.searchDisplayController.searchResultsTableView) { YES! I have even been able to do this: self.tableView = self.searchDisplayController.searchResultsTableView; [self.tableView reloadData]; But nowhere can I find how to set self.tableView back to the main datasource! I'm so tired of sifting, sifting through code for incomplete nuggets of enlightenment. Allow me to understate that Apple's documentation is grossly inadequate. It's astounding that so many slick iPhone programs came to be created. People said that once I went Mac, I'd never go back to Windows. Well, I'm anything but a convert.

  • How to preserve the aspect ratio of video using AVAssetWriter

    - by Satoshi Nakajima
    I have a following code, which captures the video from the camera and stores it as a QuickMovie file using AVAssetWriter. It works fine, but the aspect ratio is not perfect because the width and height are hardcoded (480 x 320) in the outputSettings for AVAssetWriterInput. I'd rather find out the aspect ratio of the source video, and specify the appropriate height (480 x aspect ratio). Does anybody know how to do it? Should I defer the creation of AssetWriterInput until the first sampleBuffer? // set the sessionPreset to 'medium' self.captureSession = [[AVCaptureSession alloc] init]; self.captureSession.sessionPreset = AVCaptureSessionPresetMedium; ... // create AVCaptureVideoDataOutput self.captureVideo = [[AVCaptureVideoDataOutput alloc] init]; NSString* formatTypeKey = (NSString*)kCVPixelBufferPixelFormatTypeKey; self.captureVideo.videoSettings = @{ formatTypeKey:[NSNumber numberWithInt:kCVPixelFormatType_32BGRA] }; [self.captureVideo setSampleBufferDelegate:self queue:dispatch_get_main_queue()]; // create an AVAssetWriter NSError* error = nil; self.videoWriter = [[AVAssetWriter alloc] initWithURL:url fileType:AVFileTypeQuickTimeMovie error:&error]; ... // create AVAssetWriterInput with specified settings NSDictionary* compression = @{ AVVideoAverageBitRateKey:[NSNumber numberWithInt:960000], AVVideoMaxKeyFrameIntervalKey:[NSNumber numberWithInt:1] }; self.videoInput = [AVAssetWriterInput assetWriterInputWithMediaType:AVMediaTypeVideo outputSettings:@{ AVVideoCodecKey:AVVideoCodecH264, AVVideoCompressionPropertiesKey:compression, AVVideoWidthKey:[NSNumber numberWithInt:480], // required AVVideoHeightKey:[NSNumber numberWithInt:320] // required }]; // add it to the AVAssetWriter [self.videoWriter addInput:self.videoInput];

  • UIImagePickerController weirdness ...

    - by John Michael Zorko
Hello, all ... UIImagePickerController is easy to use, but i'm all of a sudden finding it exasperating when I didn't find it so before. What's happening is that sometimes the imagePickerController:didFinishPickingImage:editingInfo delegate method does not seem to work -- the image will not show in the UIImageView even after the assignment was made. Sometimes it will, sometimes not, and furthermore, every single bit of example code i've tried (from the web, from the "Beginning iPhone 3 Development" book, etc.) exhibits the same problem. I'm at a loss as to why, and the problem happens on both my iPhone 3G as well as my 3GS, so I doubt that it's a hardware issue. These devices are running OS 3.1.2. The view controller is loaded from a xib file that contains one button and the UIImageView. I'd really like someone to tell me what stupid thing i'm obviously doing wrong :-) Here is the code -- i've tried to make the smallest app I could that exhibits the problem: #import <UIKit/UIKit.h> #import <Foundation/Foundation.h> @interface imagepickerViewController : UIViewController <UINavigationControllerDelegate, UIImagePickerControllerDelegate> { IBOutlet UIButton *button; IBOutlet UIImageView *imageView; } @property (nonatomic, retain) UIImageView *imageView; - (IBAction)takepic; - (void)usePic:(UIImage *)pic; @end #import "imagepickerViewController.h" @implementation imagepickerViewController @synthesize imageView; - (IBAction)takepic { if ([UIImagePickerController isSourceTypeAvailable:UIImagePickerControllerSourceTypeCamera]) { UIImagePickerController *picker = [[UIImagePickerController alloc] init]; picker.sourceType = UIImagePickerControllerSourceTypeCamera; picker.delegate = self; [self presentModalViewController:picker animated:YES]; [picker release]; } } - (void)imagePickerController:(UIImagePickerController *)picker didFinishPickingImage:(UIImage *)image editingInfo:(NSDictionary *)info { [self usePic:image]; [picker dismissModalViewControllerAnimated:YES]; // after this method returns, the UIImageView should show the image -- yet very often it does not ... } - (void)imagePickerControllerDidCancel:(UIImagePickerController *)picker { [picker dismissModalViewControllerAnimated:YES]; } - (void)usePic:(UIImage *)picture { imageView.image = picture; } @end
