  • Stop yahoo from opeing in second tab when opening chrome

    I recently downloaded Vuze (torrent client), which as well as installing, installs a whole bunch of rubbish toolbars (mostly by an outfit called 'Spigot') and tries to change your default search engine to Yahoo. In Safari and Firefox, ive managed to change it back but i Chrome although ive deleted all the addons and restored my default search engine when ever i open up Chrome i get two tabs 1) my default homepage and 2) yahoo search page. Any idea were i can disable this Yahoo search page, ive looked in the settings but could find any where obvious (ive set back my default search engine to Google and deleted any add ons) but this still dosnt do it.. any ideas ? My last resort is to do a factory reset of Chrome, which i dont want to do as i have all my settings in there.

    Hi, We installed a clustered SQL 2005 installation on windows 2008 and reattached our san drives from another machine and restored to do a migration to new hardware. There have been a few minor issues, but this one has me stuck. Trying to populate Full-Text indexes is not working.   • How long should diskpart take?

    I am using diskpart to extend a drive that is actually a VHD. I've already extended the VHD. It's on Windows 2003 and the C drive doesn't contain the swap file and the available space is contiguous. However didn't see the Note about the Resource Kit diskpart for download is not for Windows 2003. So I did the extend using the Windows 2000 version. Not sure if this is the reason but Diskpart is sitting there now for about 15 minutes or so and it's only gotta extend by 10GB. Should it be taking this long? Am I asking for trouble now that I've used a Windows 2000 version of diskpart on a Windows 2003 machine (VM)?

    I want to generate a robots.txt file using Varnish 2.1. That means that domain.com/robots.txt is served using Varnish and also subdomain.domain.com/robots.txt is also served using Varnish. The robots.txt must be hardcoded into default.vcl file. is that possible? I know Varnish can generate a maintenance page on error. I'm trying to make it generate a robots.txt file.   • Ubuntu OpenLDAP and Mac OS X Roaming Profiles

    Today, I'm installing OpenLDAP on Ubuntu 11.04. I have gone through the installation before a few times, but what I have never been able to do is use Mac OSX Lion's Directory Utility to administer the LDAP server, and also never got roaming profiles working. SO the question is: 1) Is there a configuration I need in OpenLDAP so I can administer it remotely. I vaguely remember something like that, but I can't find the answer online. 2) What do I need to setup roaming profiles for a mac os x. I'd like to backup all my laptop data to the LDAP's machine, and potentially, also backup with time machine to an external HD mounted no the Ubutnu machine (but that's a few days ahead of time for now).

  • Installing SDM on a Cisco 2821 ISR

    I trying to change the configuration of our router, it's a Cisco 2821 Integrated Services Router. I don't know much about Cisco products. While looking at the PDF manual for the router I notices it talked about SDM Security Device Manager. But when I point my web browser at the IP address of the router, it give me a very simple web interface. It's sort of like a string builder for CLI commands. I'm guessing SDM was not installed on it. So my question how would I go about do that? I found this link (below), but I'm a bit new to networking.     I've got an exchange server behind behind a port to address translation firewall. The server is reachable from the internet using a dyndns-url. Now I want to sync windows phones to exchange mailboxes. To achieve this, I need to install the exchange certificate on the windows phone (send it to the phone by mail, double click). So far so good. But, as far as I can see this does only work if the certificate on my exchange server matches the dyndns-url? So I'd like to know: how do I create a self signed certificate for my dyndns-url and install it on exchange?

  • Advantages of Terminal Server instead of normal client-Server installation?

    What are the advantages of using a (Windows) Terminal Server and thin clients instead of using a normal Server and full clients? So far I've only really used normal servers and clients, but now customers ask about terminal Server, and I'd like to know pro's and con's of using them instead of an "old-fashioned" client-server network. Some things I can guess: easier administration (don't need to install/update office/stuff on 20 computers but only on the server). Easier backup (no need to backup client computers). And I'd guess it would be hard (impossible) to connect and use local (like USB) hardware with Terminal Server? What else are the reasons for or against switching to Terminal Server?

  • Windows 7 EFI Partition Deleted

    I converted my Windows 7 GPT disk to dynamic, which resulted in it being unable to boot. So I used EaseUs Partition Master on my second Win 7 installation to convert the disk back to basic. Now, I have one partition, which is my C: drive, and I can't figure out how to recovery my EFI partition. I no longer see the "Windows" entry in my EFI boot menu. The Windows 7 repair on the install DVD doesn't see my installation. Please let me know how to restore the EFI partition.

  • Why should one have a secondary DNS server?

    I'm very confused. I basically understand how DNS works. Here's an example that helps illustrate what I'm having trouble understanding. Right now, I run a small web-server. I use my provider's DNS manager, so I don't have a DNS server hosted on the machine. Let's say for a second, that I don't use my host's DNS, and I decide to set up a DNS server on my server. Hypothetical scenario: my server (entire) server goes down - DNS included. Why do I need backup DNS? If the server is down, who cares if the DNS server is down too, considering that even if I had DNS up (it wasn't on the crashed server), it wouldn't be able to forward requests anyway since the server would be down? Is the point of having secondary DNS, to be able to change the IP addresses that your DNS server points to, so if your webserver was down, you could redirect traffic to a backup? How would you switch to the secondary provider, in the event that your main DNS provider becomes unavailable? Is a backup DNS system basically up all the time? How is it configured? Is it just an exact clone of the DNS server you would have on your server? Do they run simultaneously? Hopefully someone can see what I'm hung up on, and provide some guidance. Thanks

  • Multiple External IP Ranges on a Juniper SSG5

    I have a Juniper SSG 5 firewall in a datacenter. The first interface (eth0/0) has been assigned a static IP address and has three other addresses configured for VIP Nat. I have a static route configured at the lowest priority for 0.0.0.0/0 to my hosting company's gateway. Now I need to configure a second IP block. I have the IPs assigned to the second interface (eth0/1) which is in the same security zone and virtual router as the first. However, with this interface enabled I (a) can't initiate outbound sessions (browse the internet, ping, DNS lookup, etc) even though I can access servers behind the firewall just fine from the outside and (b) can't ping the management IP of the firewall/gateway. I've tried anything I can think of but I guess this is a little above my head. Could anyone point me in the right direction?   • Linux Mounting Problem

    I have an Iomega Network Attached Storage device on my Windows network. I am trying to use a clonezilla live USB flash drive to backup my netbook to my Iomega Network Attached Storage device. The clonezilla USB flash drive runs linux. I'm having trouble getting the Network Attached Storage unit to mount using the following command: mount -t cifs -o username="myUsername" //192.168.1.100/backup /home/partimg The response from linux is: [134.730738] CIFS VFS: cifs_mount failed w/return code = -6 retrying with upper case share name [134.788461] CIFS VFS: cifs_mount failed w/return code = -6 mount error(6): No such device or address Refer to the mount.cifs(8) manual page (e.g. man mount.cifs) I also tried adding the following to my username: username="myUsername,domain=workgroup" but that did not change the error. I am able to ping the network attached storage unit from linux on my netbook. I also booted from a Slax Live USB Flash Drive and Slax auto-mounted my network attached storage unit via Samba. Unfortunately, I don't believe that I can run clonezilla from inside the Slax installation. Does anyone have any insight about what is wrong with my mount statement? Or is there something peculiar about Iomega drives which makes this impossible?

  • Strange problem with Exchange client connection

    I've got a strange problem with an Exchange 2007 server running on SBS 2008. It's been working fine for users for the last 5 months, then 5 days ago they started getting a problem where Outlook would popup a window asking for credentials. If the user enters there credentials it pops up again and again, however if the user cancels the box it goes away and outlook continues to work fine. These clients all connect using Outlook Anywhere, and OWA access is also working fine. I had thought this message box may have been to do with other POP or IMAP accounts being configured in Outlook, but it's not the case. I have re-configured Outlook Anywhere on the server but to no avail. Using the RPC diagnostic tool in Outlook shows no problems. There are no errors showing in the event log. The server seems to be running fine, so to me this seems like either a client, or an RPC over HTTP issue, but I'm not getting anywhere finding the cause, any help is appreciated!

When I physically install the card I put it into a purple slot on the motherboard that the old card was in (if I go into the device manager and select properties on the current card it confirms that the slot is a "PCI Slot 16 (PCI bus 2, device 0, function 0)") and boot up the computer but get absolutely no output. The screen that we have registers that it is connected to something (by not displaying the screen it does when the cable is unplugged) but just remains blank, no output at all. I recently took the card to my University and one of my friends who is better with hardware issues than I am tried it in his system and it worked perfectly. No issues whatsoever. I do not have a spec list for his system but I could get one if you need it. If you need any more information on this issue I will be happy to supply you with it as I am starting to get very annoyed with this problem ^_^

  • Causes of hard crashes on Windows XP and how to debug

    I am occasionally seeing hard lockups on XP: totally unresponsive to keyboard/mouse, screen freezes at time of crash, no SSH/VNC possible. Very intermittent, nothing in the logs. I never see a blue screen on any kind of error message. This morning I logged in via VNC, logged out again, 20 minutes later physically sat at PC and it crashed around the time of VNC logout. I tend to suspect video cards in these kind of situations but it's a modern-ish card with modern drivers (one revision back, but this has been happening for 5 revisions or more) and normally would at least see a blue screen I expect. What would you suspect? Where can I look or what can I set up for more information? Bear in mind that this happens about once every 3 or 4 weeks, so extensive logging or intrusive monitoring isn't really an option.

    I have a web page with a link to a PDF file (target="_blank"). If I click the link, the PDF reader just shows a grey screen within the Firefox browser. If I copy that link and manually open it in a new tab, the PDF will display correctly, and subsequent requests made by clicking the original link now work, suggesting that the problem occurs when loading the file into the cache. It appears as though the Adobe PDF reader plugin is making byte-range requests (I see lots of 206 responses) and I suspect that this may be the cause of the issue. I am running an Apache webserver. Has anyone had problems with Apache and Adobe's byte-range requests? Are there any workarounds?

There is SkyDrive app installed, but it can't sync, I can only access the files one by one. And the usual desktop sync program can't be installed since the system is not x86 but ARM instead. So how do I sync SkyDrive to this device??
