  • How to setup Java-Home and Path in Ubuntu 12.04

    we are new to Ubuntu.Recently we changed my server OS to ubuntu 12.04 from windows 7 . every one have their own login details. one of my college installed Open-Jdk7. I asked him, where you installed JAVA, then he suggested to switch the following directory su root cd /usr/lib/Jvm Totally 3 folders are there in JVM folder. names are. java-1.7.0-openjdk-amd64 java-7-openjdk-amd64 java-7-openjdk-common generally, If you install Java in Windows, we will get 2 folder. 1 folder is for JDKand another points to JRE. but, in Ubuntu we have 3 folders. is it right? for my conformation, whether he installed correctly or not. I open Terminal. I run the following 2 commands javac java -version both commands are working fine. now I want to set-up Java-Home and Path for all users at same place.because everyone is working on Application server. Can anyone explain step-by-step. Thanks.

  • LAMP setup - phpmyadmin says the mysqli extension is missing (but its listed in phpinfo)

    I regularly set up virtualbox ubuntu setups to run as local webservers. I have set these up several times and never had an issue. Recently I have been cloning them but wanted to do a fresh install this time in the hopes of fixing some niggling problems which have propagated through my setups. However, something has changed: 1)vb guest additions no longer allow me to copy and paste (i'll worry about that later) 2)more importantly phpmyadmin no longer works as installed - Initially going to localhost/phpmyadmin gave a message that the page could not be found. So I have followed some instructions (sorry I know its vague I cant find them now) which have created a phpmyadmin directory in /var/www but now I get an error saying: the mysqli extension is missing. If I run phpinfo mysql and mysqli are listed. All I have done so far is install apache2 (working) install php5 (which I think used to come with apache) Install mysql server (and client for good measure) and install phpmyadmin I found a post of a similar question which suggested I should install php5-mysql (done) and edit php.ini and uncomment the line extension-mysqli.so - this is not there, so I tried adding it with no joy. I have restarted apache and still no joy on phpmyadmin. Any help is much appreciated as this is driving me nuts. Why the change for the worse - I was just starting to like linux! I'm running a windows 7 machine and the guest os is ubuntu 12.04 - I ran apt-get update before doing anything so all packages should be the latest versions.

It is supposed to deny remote login when SSH is not present. In the file /etc/xrdp/xrdp.ini I tried to change the [global] section by adding "ip=127.0.0.1" and it didn't work.

    My knowledge of mail delivery systems is near ZERO I have stand alone PC running UBUNTU 12.04 (no other OP systems) I am developing a web system with PHP and want to send an email to users that have registered. I have installed POSTFIX and set it up to work with GMAIL (I hope correctly) My little test program appears to send the email but it does not arrive at destination.     I have an PerfectPrivacy VPN connected via the OpenVPN-Network-Manger-Plugin (Ubuntu 12.04.1) and I want to assign a system wide proxy over that VPN. I have tried proxydriver that should do that automatically, but it works partially. The browser says that I have the IP of the VPN, but when I tried to send an eMail over SMTP (Port 25), I can´t connect to the mail server. In our company the smtp server port is closed, but that should be not a problem, when I do that over a VPN, shouldn´t it? greetings

  • Best database setup for one click games

    I am building a one click game website/mobile app, and I am debating between using MySQL and MongoDB for the backend. The way I have been exploring it is with a NodeJS/Express/Angular/Passport/MongoDB stack - I have also implemented Socket.io. I have gotten to the point where I am sending data from the flash game to the server (NodeJS). The only data that needs to be sent is basic user information, the players score at the end of each game, and some x,y positions for each players game (for anti-cheating). It seems like MySQL would work fine, but as I am already using MongoDB - are there any major drawbacks to continuing to work with MongoDB on this project?

In the cpanel, I selected nautilus for accessing web-disk and I was given a note: Note: In order for the Web Disk to work, you will need to allow port 2078 (SSL) or 2077 (non-SSL) on your computer's firewall. As, I am unable to connect to this, i.e. on entering the given url in Nautilus address bar, it says 'Connection closed'. So, I believe the above this quoted is not correctly configured.   • trying to setup multiple primary partitions on ubuntu linux

    I currently have ubuntu desktop installed on a harddrive. I want to partition the harddrive so that I can reserve 30 gigs for ubuntu server and 30 gigs for ubuntu desktop. The drive has 300 gigs available. Right now I am booting from dvd drive and installing ubuntu server. I selected "Guided partitioning" and created a 30 gig primary partition of Ext4 journaling filesystem, set "yes, format it" for format partition and set bootable flag to on. I intend to use this 30 gig partition to hold ubuntu server and allow me to boot from it. Now I have two other partitions. They are both set to "logical", one is currently using 285.8 gigs and is using ext4 (when I try to set bootable flag to true, it gives a warning "You are trying to set the bootable flag on a logical partition. The bootable flag is only useful on the primary partitions"). More alarming it says "No existing file system was detected in this partition". Actually, Im thinking that this is the parittion that is supposed to be holding my current Ubuntu Desktop. And of course I want this to be bootable and be a primary partition, so I could dual boot from this and the server partition. Now the third partition is also set to logical and it is being used as swap area. My question is regarding that second partition. Its supposed to be a primary partition thats holding my existing ubuntu desktop edition. How do I switch it to primary and to make sure that its pointing to my existing desktop installation?

    I own a domain, let's call it mydomain.com. I need to host the following off it: forums.mydomain.com www.mydomain.com blog.mydomain.com objects.mydomain.com I believe I can get 5 static IPs. I plan on assigning one each to those four hosts. Then I need to adhoc create names, all below objects.mydomain.com. For instance: one.objects.mydomain.com two.objects.mydomain.com three.objects.mydomain.com I need to create these names programatically, and without human intervention. Preferably, they would not get their own IPs. They would use the IP of objects.mydomain.com. First question: Does this mean that I need to host my own DNS? Second question: I'm using Apache as a web server. What does the virtual host configuration look like?   • W520 External monitor setup with Ubuntu 12.10

    I just installed a fresh Ubuntu 12.10 64-Bit Desktop on my Lenovo W520. It looks like there are a lot of challenges around making it work with out of the box Nouveau drivers or propriety Nvidia drivers or Intel GPU. I looked at couple of notes on how to make it work with Bumblebee with Optimus Nvidia. None of them seems to work for 12.10. Anybody has a solid answer on this?     We had a home-grown LTSP load-balancer based on LDM_SERVER and get_hosts in Ubuntu 10.04. After upgrading to Ubuntu 12.04, everything worked fine except that get_hosts is being ignored completely. If we put space delimited list of servers as LDM_SERVER in lts.conf, users can choose a server during login and things work fine. Tried both locations below without any luck so far: 1. /var/lib/tftpboot/ltsp/i386/get_hosts 2. /opt/ltsp/i386/etc/get_hosts Any pointers would be greatly appreciated.

  • Google Analytics account setup for multiple personal websites?

    I have multiple personal websites that I develop and plan to develop more over time. The number of websites is currently greater than one but less than 50. Currently I have a single Google account with a single analytics account that has a web property for each of my sites. My understanding is that you can have up to 25 analytics accounts attached to a single google account and each of those 25 acccounts can have up to 50 web properties in them which would allow me to track up to 1,250 sites. I don't think I'll be hitting that number anytime soon, however are there other reasons to structure accounts differently, such as using a separate google account for each site and then adding myself as an administrator?

    I have to copy into the installer folders containing hidden files (in my case Desktop.ini). I use a line similar to this one in the [Files] section: Source: "folder\*desktop.ini"; DestDir: "{app}\folder"; Flags: recursesubdirs uninsneveruninstall; Attribs: hidden This line only works if I remove the hidden attributes. If all are hidden, it complains that it could not find any files. How can I configure Inno to search for hidden files using patterns?
