  • Cookie value to define style on page load

    - by zac
I am using the scripts from here http://www.quirksmode.org/js/cookies.html and have successfully created a cookie.. but am having trouble doing anything with it. I would like to have a style defined if a cookie is present. The function for the readCookie is function readCookie(name) { var nameEQ = name + "="; var ca = document.cookie.split(';'); for(var i=0;i < ca.length;i++) { var c = ca[i]; while (c.charAt(0)==' ') c = c.substring(1,c.length); if (c.indexOf(nameEQ) == 0) return c.substring(nameEQ.length,c.length); } return null; } I am trying to use it on page load with something like this window.onload=function(){ var x = readCookie('myCookieValue'); if (x) { document.getElementById('div').innerHTML = "<style type=\"text/css\">.form {display:none}</style>"; } } What would be the correct way of writing this?

  • How do you optimize database performance when providing results for autocomplete/iterative search?

    - by Howiecamp
Note: In this question I'm using the term "autocomplete" (or "iterative search") to refer to returning search-as-you-type results, e.g. like Google Search gives you. Also my question is not specific to web applications vs. fat client apps. How are SQL SELECT queries normally constructed to provide decent performance for this type of query, especially over arbitrarily large data sets? In the case where the search will only query based on the first n characters (easiest case) am I still issuing a new SELECT result FROM sometable WHERE entry LIKE... on each keypress. Even with various forms of caching this seems like it might result in poor performance. In cases where you want your search string to return results with prefix matches, substring matches, etc. it's an even more difficult problem. Looking at a case of searching a list of contacts, you might return results that match FirstName + LastName, LastName + FirstName, or any other substring.

  • How can I improve the below query?

    - by Newbie
I have the following input. INPUT: TableA ID Sentences --- ---------- 1 I am a student 2 Have a nice time guys! What I need to do is to extract the words from the sentence(s) and insert each individual word in another table OUTPUT: SentenceID WordOccurance Word ---------- ------------ ----- 1 1 I 1 2 am 1 3 a 1 4 student 2 1 Have 2 2 a 2 3 nice 2 4 time 2 5 guys! I was able to get the answer by using the below query ;With numCTE As ( Select rn = 1 Union all Select rn+1 from numCTE where rn<1000) select SentenceID=id, WordOccurance=row_number()over(partition by TableA.ID order by rn), Word = substring(' '+sentences+' ', rn+1, charindex(' ',' '+sentences+' ', rn+1)-rn-1) from TableA join numCTE on rn <= len(' '+sentences+' ') where substring(' '+sentences+' ', rn,1) = ' ' order by id, rn How can I improve this query of mine.? Basically I am looking for a better solution than the one presented Thanks

  • GTK+ widgets/windows being (randomly) corrupted, with what seems to be timers.

    - by nubela
    Hi, I have recently implemented a scrolling text across an area of limited screen estate using a timers repeating every 100ms, and some simple string appending. However, after this very implementation, I have come to realise that my GUI is getting randomly bugged/corrupted after a certain while. That is to say that some widgets/windows become completely white, and eventually the entire GUI turns white and unclickable. What is weird is that there is no error debug output at all. Having said that, I am using Mono with GTK-Sharp for the application. Does anyone have an idea or a possible clue how and why this is happening? If not, how can I further debug this properly? Thanks, really appreciate it. PS: Sometimes, it takes up to 1.5 hours for the thing to start corrupting, it has random timeframes for it to start happening. This is my the code implemented that caused this issue: void ScrollSyncTo(object sender, System.Timers.ElapsedEventArgs e) { //initial check if it fits nicely alr if (sync_to_full_txt.Length <= sync_to_max_char) { sync_to_timer.Stop(); return; } //check for pause if (sync_to_pause >= 0) { sync_to_pause--; return; } //check direction int temp_psn; string temp_str; if (sync_to_direction) { temp_psn = sync_to_posn + 1; if (sync_to_full_txt.Substring(temp_psn).Length < sync_to_max_char) { sync_to_pause = sync_to_break_steps; sync_to_direction = false; sync_to_posn = sync_to_full_txt.Length - 1; System.GC.Collect(); return; } else { temp_str = sync_to_full_txt.Substring(temp_psn, sync_to_max_char); } } else { temp_psn = sync_to_posn - 1; if (temp_psn + 1 < sync_to_max_char) { sync_to_pause = sync_to_break_steps; sync_to_direction = true; sync_to_posn = 0; System.GC.Collect(); return; } else { temp_str = sync_to_full_txt.Substring(temp_psn - sync_to_max_char + 1, sync_to_max_char); } } //lets move it sync_to.Text = temp_str; sync_to_posn = temp_psn; }

  • SVN merge adding parameters. WTF? Or how to do big merges?

    - by HeavyWave
I am doing an SVN merge for a branch, and in one of the files I see this: GetQueryReferenceData(int sessionId, Int32 sessionId) Which means that the merge tool just added another parameter without asking any questions. Imagine if it was a call to Substring(0) and in another branch it would be Substring(0,2). That is completely different behavior, how does it even get to decide which one to choose? Good thing it came up during compile time. The problem is that it will not be marked as a conflict and will be merged automatically. That is very dangerous behavior and if you don't have the luxury of having a unit test for every line of code - you are screwed. What am I doing wrong and how to do big merges without the merging tool putting in dangerous changes silently? Is there a merge tool that is not language agnostic? I am using Tortoise SVN.

  • Add up values from a text file

    - by Stanley
Hi Guys I have a text file that contains Amounts at Substring (34, 47) of each line. I need to sum Up all the Values to the End of the File. I have this code that I had started to build but I do not know how to proceed from here: public class Addup { /** * @param args the command line arguments */ public static void main(String[] args) throws FileNotFoundException, IOException { // TODO code application logic here FileInputStream fs = new FileInputStream("C:/Analysis/RL004.TXT"); BufferedReader br = new BufferedReader(new InputStreamReader(fs)); String line; while((line = br.readLine()) != null){ String num = line.substring(34, 47); double i = Double.parseDouble(num); System.out.println(i); } } } The output is like this: 1.44576457E4 2.33434354E6 4.56875685E3 The Amount is in two decimal Places and I need the result also in the Two decimal Places. What Is the Best way to achieve this?

  • Convert Military time to string representation

    - by RRUZ
I have an column declarated as int (called HourMil) wich store the time in military format. i need convert this values to an formated string (HH:MM) example HourMil = 710 -> must be 07:10 HourMil = 1305 -> must be 13:05 Actually i am using this code (and works ok) for convert the column HourMil to the string representation. SELECT SUBSTRING(LEFT('0',4-LEN(CAST(HourMil AS VARCHAR)))+CAST(HourMil AS VARCHAR),1,2)+':'+SUBSTRING(LEFT('0',4-LEN(CAST(HourMil AS VARCHAR)))+CAST(HourMil AS VARCHAR),3,2) FROM MYTABLE but I think this code can be improved.

  • How to Regex.IsMatch at a specified offset in .NET?

    - by romkyns
Suppose I want to match "abc" within the string s only if it occurs exactly at index n. int n = 2; Console.WriteLine(new Regex("abc").IsMatch("01abc", n)); // true Console.WriteLine(new Regex("abc").IsMatch("0123abc", n)); // true (but want false) Console.WriteLine(new Regex("^abc").IsMatch("01abc", n)); // false (but want true) Seems that the only way to achieve this without using Substring on the input is something like this: var match = new Regex("abc").Match("0123abc", n); Console.WriteLine(match.Success && match.Index == n); This isn't too bad, except that when there is no match at the starting offset then the entire input will be scanned unnecessarily, which is probably slower for most regexes than actually creating a substring prior to the match. (I didn't time it though). Am I missing an obvious overload or setting that would restrict a match to the supplied offset only?

  • Extract dates from filename

    - by Newbie
I have a situation where I need to extract dates from the file names whose general pattern is [filename_]YYYYMMDD[.fileExtension] e.g. "xxx_20100326.xls" or x2v_20100326.csv The below program does the work //Number of charecter in the substring is set to 8 //since the length of YYYYMMDD is 8 public static string ExtractDatesFromFileNames(string fileName) { return fileName.Substring(fileName.IndexOf("_") + 1, 8); } Is there any better option of achieving the same? I am basically looking for standard practice. I am using C#3.0 and dotnet framework 3.5 Edit: I have like the solution and the way of answerig of LC. I have used his program like string regExPattern = "^(?:.*_)?([0-9]{4})([0-9]{2})([0-9]{2})(?:\\..*)?$"; string result = Regex.Match(fileName, @regExPattern).Groups[1].Value; The input to the function is : "x2v_20100326.csv" But the output is: 2010 instead of 20100326(which is the expected one). Can anyone please help.

  • How can you get the first digit in an int (C#)?

    - by Dinah
In C#, what's the best way to get the 1st digit in an int? The method I came up with is to turn the int into a string, find the 1st char of the string, then turn it back to an int. int start = Convert.ToInt32(curr.ToString().Substring(0, 1)); While this does the job, it feels like there is probably a good, simple, math-based solution to such a problem. String manipulation feels clunky. Edit: irrespective of speed differences, mystring[0] instead of Substring() is still just string manipulation

  • How to compare DateTime Objects while looping through a list?

    - by Taniq
I'm trying to loop through a list (csv) containing two fields; a name and a date. There are various duplicated names and various dates in the list. I'm trying to deduce for each name in the list, where there are multiple instances of the same name, which corresponding date is the latest. I realise, from looking at another answer, that I need to use the DateTime.Compare method which is fine, but my problem is working out which date is later. Once I know this I need to produce a file with unique names and the latest date relating to it. This is my first question which makes me a newbie. EDIT: Initially I thought it would be 'ok' to set the LatestDate object to a date that wouldn't show up in my file, therefore making any later dates in the file the LatestDate. Here's my coding so far: using System; using System.Collections.Generic; using System.Linq; using System.Text; using System.IO; namespace flybe_overwriter { class Program { static DateTime currentDate; static DateTime latestDate = new DateTime(1000,1,1); static HashSet<string> uniqueNames = new HashSet<string>(); static string indexpath = @"e:\flybe test\indexing.csv"; static string[] indexlist = File.ReadAllLines(indexpath); static StreamWriter outputfile = new StreamWriter(@"e:\flybe test\match.csv"); static void Main(string[] args) { foreach (string entry in indexlist) { uniqueNames.Add(entry.Split(',')[0]); } HashSet<string>.Enumerator fenum = new HashSet<string>.Enumerator(); fenum = uniqueNames.GetEnumerator(); while (fenum.MoveNext()) { string currentName = fenum.Current; foreach (string line in indexlist) { currentDate = new DateTime(Convert.ToInt32(line.Split(',')[1].Substring(4, 4)), Convert.ToInt32(line.Split(',')[1].Substring(2, 2)), Convert.ToInt32(line.Split(',')[1].Substring(0, 2))); if (currentName == line.Split(',')[0]) { if(DateTime.Compare(latestDate.Date, currentDate.Date) < 1) { // Console.WriteLine(currentName + " " + latestDate.ToShortDateString() + " is earlier than " + currentDate.ToShortDateString()); } else if (DateTime.Compare(latestDate.Date, currentDate.Date) > 1) { // Console.WriteLine(currentName + " " + latestDate.ToShortDateString() + " is later than " + currentDate.ToShortDateString()); } else if (DateTime.Compare(latestDate.Date, currentDate.Date) == 0) { // Console.WriteLine(currentName + " " + latestDate.ToShortDateString() + " is the same as " + currentDate.ToShortDateString()); } } } } } } } Any help appreciated. Thanks.

  • Problem with deployment of windows application using setup wizard.

    - by Mike
I have some xml files, which are used in my application. They are stored in the same folder with application , in subfolder DATA: "C:\MyProject\DATA\". To get the DATA folder path i use this code : static public string GetDataFolderPath() { string s = System.IO.Directory.GetCurrentDirectory().Replace(@"\bin\Debug", ""); int i = s.LastIndexOf(@"\"); s = s.Substring(0, i); i = s.LastIndexOf(@"\"); s= s.Substring(0, i); return s + @"\Data\"; } So when i want to deploy my application, i create a setup project, and add the DATA folder to Application folder. But after i install the program f.e. "C:\Project"(DATA folder- "C:\Project\DATA" i got the error: "folder C:\DATA is not found". What i need to change to make things working after deployment. Why it looks for the DATA folder on 1 level higher?

How can I access the file name extension so that output becomes : 'this is te... pdf' I could use substring method to access the last three characters but other file extensions could be 4 chars in length such as .aspx Is there a regular expression I can use so that "this is test truncation 1.pdf" becomes "this is te... pdf"

  • SQL Server FTS: possible to get information how/why rows were matched?

    - by jimmy_keen
Is it possible to get the information why/how given row returned by FTS query was matched (or which substring caused row to match)? For example, consider simpliest table with id and text columns, with FTS index on the later one. SELECT * FROM Example WHERE CONTAINS(text, 'FORMSOF(INFLECTIONAL, jump)'); This examplary query could return, say row {1, 'Jumping Jack'}. Now, is it possible to somehow get information that this very row was matched because of 'Jumping' word? It doesn't even have to be exact information, more of a which substring caused row to match. Why I'm asking - I got C# app that builds up those queries basing on user input (keywords to search for), and I need the very basic information why/how row was matched back, to use further in C# code. If it's not possible, any alternatives?

  • Oracle UCM GET_SEARCH_RESULTS service with full text search

    - by Lyudmil Pelov
Newly I was working on portlet which should be able to do full text search through the UCM documents and I was experimenting with the Ridc and also with the CIS API's. There are some ticks you may take care of, for example using quotes is a very spacial case and most of situations UCM will throw an exception if you not use them well. So during my tests I was able to develop one solution which works very well for me doing full text search and here is it: final IdcClientManager idcManager = new IdcClientManager(); final IdcClient idcClient = idcManager.createClient("idc://127.0.0.1:4444"); final IdcContext idcContext = new IdcContext("sysadmin"); final DataBinder binder = idcClient.createBinder(); // populate the binder with the parameters binder.putLocal ("IdcService", "GET_SEARCH_RESULTS"); binder.putLocal ("QueryText", "dDocFullText <substring> <qsch>"+yourSearchWordOrWords+"</qsch>");  binder.putLocal ("SearchEngineName", "databasefulltext"); binder.putLocal ("ResultCount", "20"); // execute the request ServiceResponse response = idcClient.sendRequest (idcContext, binder); // get the binder DataBinder serverBinder = response.getResponseAsBinder (); DataResultSet resultSet = serverBinder.getResultSet ("SearchResults"); // loop over the results for (DataObject dataObject : resultSet.getRows ()) { System.out.println ("Title is: " + dataObject.get ("dDocTitle")); System.out.println ("Author is: " + dataObject.get ("dDocAuthor")); }Nothing special so far except the line which declares the full text search. To be able to proceed with the full text search you have to use dDocFullText attribute inside the search query. The tag <substring> is the same as 'like'. Also you have to put your searching string or words in quotes which could be a problem sometime, so I used the tag <qsch>. Using this tag you can have quotes now inside you searching string without to break the code and get parsing exceptions. To be able to test the example, you do have to enable full text search inside UCM. To do this follow the steps for example from this blog here and then re-index the documents in UCM.There is also one very nice article about how to define UCM queries if want to replace the full text search with something more specific, you can read this article from Kyle's Blog here.

  • My Body Summary template for Orchard

    - by Bertrand Le Roy
By default, when Orchard displays a content item such as a blog post in a list, it uses a very basic summary template that removes all markup and then extracts the first 200 characters. Removing the markup has the unfortunate effect of removing all styles and images, in particular the image I like to add to the beginning of my posts. Fortunately, overriding templates in Orchard is a piece of cake. Here is the Common.Body.Summary.cshtml file that I drop into the Views/Parts folder of pretty much all Orchard themes I build: @{ Orchard.ContentManagement.ContentItem contentItem = Model.ContentPart.ContentItem; var bodyHtml = Model.Html.ToString(); var more = bodyHtml.IndexOf("<!--more-->"); if (more != -1) { bodyHtml = bodyHtml.Substring(0, more); } else { var firstP = bodyHtml.IndexOf("<p>"); var firstSlashP = bodyHtml.IndexOf("</p>"); if (firstP >=0 && firstSlashP > firstP) { bodyHtml = bodyHtml.Substring(firstP, firstSlashP + 4 - firstP); } } var body = new HtmlString(bodyHtml); } <p>@body</p> <p>@Html.ItemDisplayLink(T("Read more...").ToString(), contentItem)</p> .csharpcode, .csharpcode pre { font-size: small; color: black; font-family: consolas, "Courier New", courier, monospace; background-color: #ffffff; /*white-space: pre;*/ } .csharpcode pre { margin: 0em; } .csharpcode .rem { color: #008000; } .csharpcode .kwrd { color: #0000ff; } .csharpcode .str { color: #006080; } .csharpcode .op { color: #0000c0; } .csharpcode .preproc { color: #cc6633; } .csharpcode .asp { background-color: #ffff00; } .csharpcode .html { color: #800000; } .csharpcode .attr { color: #ff0000; } .csharpcode .alt { background-color: #f4f4f4; width: 100%; margin: 0em; } .csharpcode .lnum { color: #606060; } This template does not remove any tags, but instead looks for an HTML comment delimiting the end of the post’s intro: <!--more--> This is the same convention that is being used in WordPress, and it’s easy to add from the source view in TinyMCE or Live Writer. If such a comment is not found, the template will extract the first paragraph (delimited by <p> and </p> tags) as the summary. And if it finds neither, it will use the whole post. The template also adds a localizable link to the full post.

  • Java word scramble game [closed]

    - by Dan
    I'm working on code for a word scramble game in Java. I know the code itself is full of bugs right now, but my main focus is getting a vector of strings broken into two separate vectors containing hints and words. The text file that the strings are taken from has a colon separating them. So here is what I have so far. public WordApp() { inputRow = new TextInputBox(); inputRow.setLocation(200,100); phrases = new Vector <String>(FileUtilities.getStrings()); v_hints = new Vector<String>(); v_words = new Vector<String>(); textBox = new TextBox(200,100); textBox.setLocation(200,200); textBox.setText(scrambled + "\n\n Time Left: \t" + seconds/10 + "\n Score: \t" + score); hintBox = new TextBox(200,200); hintBox.setLocation(300,400); hintBox.hide(); Iterator <String> categorize = phrases.iterator(); while(categorize.hasNext()) { int index = phrases.indexOf(":"); String element = categorize.next(); v_words.add(element.substring(0,index)); v_hints.add(element.substring(index +1)); phrases.remove(index); System.out.print(index); } The FileUtilities file was given to us by the pofessor, here it is. import java.util.*; import java.io.*; public class FileUtilities { private static final String FILE_NAME = "javawords.txt"; //------------------ getStrings ------------------------- // // returns a Vector of Strings // Each string is of the form: word:hint // where word contains no spaces. // The words and hints are read from FILE_NAME // // public static Vector<String> getStrings ( ) { Vector<String> words = new Vector<String>(); File file = new File( FILE_NAME ); Scanner scanFile; try { scanFile = new Scanner( file); } catch ( IOException e) { System.err.println( "LineInput Error: " + e.getMessage() ); return null; } while ( scanFile.hasNextLine() ) { // read the word and follow it by a colon String s = scanFile.nextLine().trim().toUpperCase() + ":"; if( s.length()>1 && scanFile.hasNextLine() ) { // append the hint and add to collection s+= scanFile.nextLine().trim(); words.add(s); } } // shuffle Collections.shuffle(words); return words; } }

  • SSIS Expression to Find Text Between Characters

    - by Compudicted
It will be a super short and looks like the first and last post in January 2011. So back to the topic, I decided to share an SSIS expression I crafted to extract the value concealed between two characters (I needed to get a portion of text in a file path): Substring(@[User::MyString],FINDSTRING(@[User::MyString],"(",1)+1,FINDSTRING(@[User::MyString],")",1) - FINDSTRING(@[User::MyString],"(",1)-1) The value of MyString say could be c:\test\test(testing123456789).txt, then the resulting text captured testing123456789. Hopefully it will be needed to somebody.

  • Generate GUID from any string using C#

    - by Haitham Khedre
Some times you need to generate GUID from a string which is not valid for GUID constructor . so what we will do is to get a valid input from string that the GUID constructor will accept it. It is recommended to be sure that the string that you will generate a GUID from it some how unique. The Idea is simple is to convert the string to 16 byte Array which the GUID constructor will accept it. The code will talk : using System; using System.Text; namespace StringToGUID { class Program { static void Main(string[] args) { int tokenLength = 32; int guidByteSize = 16; string token = "BSNAItOawkSl07t77RKnMjYwYyG4bCt0g8DVDBv5m0"; byte[] b = new UTF8Encoding().GetBytes(token.Substring(token.Length - tokenLength, tokenLength).ToCharArray(), 0, guidByteSize); Guid g = new Guid(b); Console.WriteLine(g.ToString()); token = "BSNePf57YwhzeE9QfOyepPfIPao4UD5UohG_fI-#eda7d"; b = new UTF8Encoding().GetBytes(token.Substring(token.Length - tokenLength, tokenLength).ToCharArray(), 0, guidByteSize); g = new Guid(b); Console.WriteLine(g.ToString()); Console.Read(); } } } .csharpcode, .csharpcode pre { font-size: small; color: black; font-family: consolas, "Courier New", courier, monospace; background-color: #ffffff; /*white-space: pre;*/ } .csharpcode pre { margin: 0em; } .csharpcode .rem { color: #008000; } .csharpcode .kwrd { color: #0000ff; } .csharpcode .str { color: #006080; } .csharpcode .op { color: #0000c0; } .csharpcode .preproc { color: #cc6633; } .csharpcode .asp { background-color: #ffff00; } .csharpcode .html { color: #800000; } .csharpcode .attr { color: #ff0000; } .csharpcode .alt { background-color: #f4f4f4; width: 100%; margin: 0em; } .csharpcode .lnum { color: #606060; }   And The output: 37306c53-3774-5237-4b6e-4d6a59775979 66513945-794f-7065-5066-4950616f3455

  • Adventures in Drupal multisite config with mod_rewrite and clean urls

    - by moexu
The university where I work is planning to offer Drupal hosting to staff/faculty who want a Drupal site. We've set up Drupal multisite with clean urls and it's mostly working except for some weird redirects. If you have two sites where one is a substring of the other then you'll randomly be redirected to the other site. I tracked the problem to how mod_rewrite does path matching, so with a config file like this: RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} ^/drupal RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d RewriteRule ^(.*)$ /drupal/index.php?q=$1 [last, qsappend] RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} ^/drupaltest RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d RewriteRule ^(.*)$ /drupaltest/index.php?q=$1 [last, qsappend] /drupaltest will match the /drupal line and all of the links on the /drupaltest page will be rewritten to point to /drupal. If you put the end of string character ($) at the end of each rewrite condition then it will always match on the correct site and the links will always be rewritten correctly. That breaks down as soon as a user logs in though because the query string is appended to the url so just the base url will no longer match. You can also fix the problem by ordering the sites in the config file so that the smallest substring will always be last. I suggested storing all of the sites in a table and then querying, sorting, and rewriting the config file every time a Drupal site is requested so that we could guarantee the order. The system administrator thought that was kludgy and didn't address the root problem. Disabling clean urls should also fix the problem but the users really want them so I'd prefer to keep them if possible. I think we could also fix it by using an .htaccess file in each site to handle the clean url rewriting but that also seems suboptimal since it will generate a higher load on the server and the server is intended to host the majority of the university's external facing web content. Is there some magic I can do with mod_rewrite to get it to work? Would another solution be better? Am I doing something the wrong way to begin with?

  • Adventures in Drupal multisite config with mod_rewrite and clean urls
