  I have photo gallery code that does image re-sizing and thumbnail creation. I use ImageMagick to do this. I ran a gallery page through Google's Page Speed tool and it revealed that the re-sized images and thumbnails both have about an extra 10KB of data (JPEG files specifically). What can I add to my scripts to optimize the file size? ADDITIONAL INFORMATION I am using the imagick::FILTER_LANCZOS filter with a blur setting of 0.9 when calling the resizeImage() function. JPEGs have a quality setting of 80.

• Can GhostScript run in Medium Trust

  I am using GhostScript to generate some thumbnails of PDF pages in an ASP.NET application. I have it wrapped in this library called GhostScriptSharp that just uses DllImport to call methods in the GhostScript DLL. It looks like this wont work on a medium trust hosting environment, either because of the fact that it is calling unmanaged code, or that it looks like the library is creating files all over the place (outside my virtual directory). I ran Process Monitor and saw it trying to Read, QueryNameInformationFile, CreateFile and QueryStandardInformationFile in places like: C:\WINDOWS\system32\Halftone\Default or C:\gs\gs8.63\lib\Halftone\Default or C:\gs\font\Halftone\Default Any ideas about whether this is "fixable" to run in medium trust? If I can't use GhostScript, is there another free/open source library that WILL work in Medium trust?

• Is it possible to capture a window with windows 7 DWM thumbnail in it?

  I am starting to believe that you can do nothing with Windows API. I have two windows. One has a DWM thumbnail in it. What I want to do is, I want to be able to capture the screen of the window with the thumbnail into the other one. When I do this, using bitblt, everything is copied except the thumbnail. It just isn't there in the bitmap. So how does the DWM rendering work? I mean, if DWM renders thumbnails directly onto the DC of the registered window, then my approach should work. I'm confused.   Hi, I've developed an application to capture and save images to a database, but I'm having an issue with memory usage. On my domain object I have 3 properties: Image - Byte array, contents are a jpg RealImageThumb - The byte array converted to a BitmapImage and shrunk, displayed to the user in a gridview with other thumbnails RealImage - Has no setter, the byte array converted to a bitmap source, this is shown in a tooltip when the user hovers over it. The issue I have is that if a user hovers over each image in turn the memory usage spirals. I realise that as a user hovers over bitmap sources are generated and the memory isn't freed up, I've tried giving RealImage a backing property and assigning this to null after but again the memory isn't freed up (waiting for the garbage colelctor?.

  hello, I want to do some kind of image editor, after I upload more images i want to make a list with all the thumbnails! after i want to be able to click on one thumb and rotate, duplicate, drag and drop (to change positions of the images), delete the image! all the images i want to be in a php array, if a image is deleted i want to delete the row from array to, if a image is drag and droped i want to change the position in the array to! ok after the user upload all the images and modify some of it how i can make a DONE button to save the positions of the images? for this small project how u suggest me to save the images? (to make a table in mysql and store the names of the images in the database depending on the session id? depending on the IP? any suggestions are welcome! thanks!

• Create a thumbnail of a dwg in in a linux environment

  Creating a ruby on rails site that uses RMagick to create thumbnails for many types of images. RMagick cannot read dwg files however. I've tried a few things, looked into the Java library JDWGLib, which would probably allow me to write a converter, but it would be a total from the ground up solution, where I just need a thumbnail. Also considered using a viewer program to open the file in a remote X session and do a screen capture, however I'm not sure how I could ever guarantee that the viewer had completed opening when I took the screenshot. I'm not concerned with being able to manipulate the file other than to create the thumbnail. It is going to be used for commercial purposes, so any libraries used need to be compatible.

• Executing AJAX scripts within an AJAX response

  Hi there, I'm having trouble using AJAX page updates along with other AJAX scripts. During a normal page load, the AJAX scripts (picture scrolling and picture thumbnails) work fine. But when I update a page with AJAX, these scripts (usually loaded in the header of the initial page load) stop working. I am wondering if this is specific to these scripts and I need to look into them deeper to resolve/re-write or if I am missing something more generic in combining AJAX page updates with AJAX scripts the returned code relies on. I also put the videos on my product pages but I want to build a separate video page and link them all together.. I have almost 200 videos that i want my customers to be able to easily navigate through (like thumbnails). I also think that this will help my internal link structure.   I just found out about BuddyPress (a collection of plugins that convert a WordPress MU install into a social network) and now I was wondering if there are any Digg-like voting plugins for WordPress. This would eventually integrate into a BuddyPress website, where the site members would submit, vote and comment on stories (much like Digg). I have a feeling I will end up having to build this from scratch, but since the site will be built on WordPress, I was wondering if there were any plugins already available that add this functionality. So far I have come up empty in my search. I did find a Wordpress blog that had this functionality WpVote. It even creates thumbnails of the story webpage automatically (I'm assuming) using websnapr. I browsed through the page source and didn't seem to find any hints of a WP plugin that they are using.

• Drupal - Lightbox -> iframe node displaying entire website with views

  I am attempting to make a view that would list thumbnails of my projects, then when clicking them enlarge the photo using lightbox and list out some text and a link to the website. I am not sure if there is a way I can just add text to the lightbox using views so right now I have it using a field for Lightbox2 iframe: thumb200wh-node page. Open my entire website again in the lightbox instead of just the node: http://jeffkilroy.com/portfolio_boxes Is there a way to just display the node from the views module or is there a way to just use an image but modify the description so that I can put text in?

• a loading screen for a c# wpf listbox

  I'm using a list box where there are on average about 500 thumbnails (items) that can be sorted and searched. Since I'm using default databinding and search descriptors (which I've heard are slow due to reflection) the list takes a noticeable pause of a few seconds loading, sorting, and searching (the list dynamically updates based on the contents of the search box so the first one or two letters typed are really slow). I don't think I can fully do away with reflection give the timeframe for the project, and speed isn't super essential, but I'd like some kind of graphical indication of the delay so it doesn't confuse the user. How could I do something like a website video loading screen where the listbox grays out and some kind of loading circle indicates it's processing until the list is ready? Or even just grayed out with the words "Loading..." for a few seconds could work. Any ideas? Thanks in advance for your help and suggestions!!!

  I'm creating thumbnails cycling through a lot of images, when I find a large image I get: Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 33554432 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 13056 bytes) Now I already know how to circumvent this with: ini_set('memory_limit', '-1'); What I want to know is why it exhaust the memory! Is there some debug tools that will show me exactly when memory is exhausting? And specifically that will show me if there are variables/arrays that are killing my memory? OR, are there better way to resize images other then: $thumb=imagecreatetruecolor($newwidth,$newheight); $source=imagecreatefromjpeg($imgfile); imagecopyresampled($thumb,$source,0,0,0,0,$newwidth,$newheight,$width,$height); imagejpeg($thumb,$destinationfile,85); ? • Simple image server

  I have a bunch of images that I need others to browse via a web browser in pretty much the same way as Apache-Gallery. I'd be able to dump all my images in a directory so that users hitting: http://server:port/directory would see small thumbnails and selecting an image would load it full size on a page with options to browse the previous or next image. I'm looking for a non Apache solution, much like the wonderfull Python simple http server, that can be launched anywhere with minimal configuration & fuss e.g. python -m SimpleHTTPServer 8000 In fact, the python solution above is pretty much want I want except it doesn't thumbnail the images but just a simple directory listing. Happy to use an app written in any common language so long as it is self contained and can run on linux on a custom port (and to re-iterate, not an Apache module).

• TTRequestLoader always raises "TTDASSERT failed: _cacheKey == request.cacheKey"

  I run the TTCatalog application from the Three20 library and encountered this error when click on the "Photo Thumbnails" of the "Three20 Catalog": TTDASSERT failed: _cacheKey == request.cacheKey I look at the breakpoint and see that it is on line 119 of TTRequestLoader.m of the method addRequest. I know that it failed to do the assertion of the cacheKey, but why this error appears even on the sample application, does anyone encounter the same error? What is the workaround of this? Thanks, P/S: I downloaded the Three20 from the git directory just yesterday. So I assume this be the newest one.

  Hi, i have a page with the main content area being big thumbnails, but elsewhere on the page are about 100-200 other (smaller) thumbs that are not important but must still show. What ways do i have to make the main ones show first (or the unimportant ones show last)? I was thinking of these ways: JS load: on page load (once it has finished loading), use a jquery's append() (or whatever other way) to write the html with the image code Set all unimportant images inside a div with style="display:none;". Then once the page has loaded, use JS to set it as visible what do you think is the best way?

• Android - Using Camera Intent but not updating correctly?

  Hello - I am using an intent to capture a picture: Intent i = new Intent(android.provider.MediaStore.ACTION_IMAGE_CAPTURE); i.putExtra(android.provider.MediaStore.EXTRA_OUTPUT, Uri.fromFile(new File(Environment.getExternalStorageDirectory(), "test.jpg"))); startActivityForResult(i, 2); And then once taken I do the following: sendBroadcast(new Intent(Intent.ACTION_MEDIA_MOUNTED, Uri.parse("file://" + Environment.getExternalStorageDirectory()))); launchGallery(); While the above seems to work the first time without issue, whenever I run through a second time (so test.jpg already exists) the image actually saves correctly to /sdcard/ but I am finding that the thumbnail does not update and when the gallery loads it shows the previous test.jpg image! I was under the impression that sendBroadcast should update the thumbnails, but it doesn't appear to be.. Is there some other way to go about this and ensure when I call my launchGallery(); method the most recent image I just took appears? Thanks!

It was pretty simple to use JQTouch and Google Data API (via JSONP), so I was able to show the albums and thumbnails in 3 hours, however I want that data to be cached, and for that I'm going to use the HTML 5 Application Cache (via xxx.manifest file). Now the question is what hosts shall I write there in order to cache pictures hosted on picasa. So far I've seen something like lh6.google.com or lh4.ggpht.com does anybody knows the full list of servers?

  Hello, I am trying to write some mod_rewrite rules to generate thumbnails on the fly. So when this url example.com/media/myphoto.jpg?width=100&height=100 the script should rewrite it to example.com/media/myphoto-100x100.jpg and if the file exists on the disk it gets served by Apache and if it doesn't exist it is called a script to generate the file. I wrote this RewriteCond %{QUERY_STRING} ^width=(\d+)&height=(\d+) RewriteRule ^media/([a-zA-Z0-9_\-]+)\.([a-zA-Z0-9]+)$ media/$1-%1x%2.$2 [L] RewriteCond %{QUERY_STRING} ^(.+)? RewriteRule ^media/([a-zA-Z0-9_\-\._]+)$ media/index.php?file=$1&%1 [L] and I get infinite internal redirects. The first condition is matched and the rule is executed and right after that I get an internal redirect. I need advice to finish this script. Thank you.

• <mx:HTML/> content looks crusty when resized

  I've got HTML component as part of a datagroup itemrenderer which I need to resize the content of (there are lots of them). This works quite well but the content looks really crusty. No font antialiasing. Even at 50% looks crusty. I've considered generating thumbnails bitmaps on load 'complete', but that would be my last resort. <mx:HTML location="{uri}" width="900" height="660" scaleX=".25" scaleY=".25" /> Any ideas? • Embedding Youtube Videos on user's wall with the Javascript API

  I'm attempting to embed a Youtube video on a user's wall using the Javascript API. I've poured over a bunch of different tutorials and came up with this: var data = { method: 'feed', link: current_video_url, // Link to the vide on our site source: current_video_src, // Link to the Youtube video, http://youtube.com/v/[hash] picture: current_picture_url, // Thumbnail from youtube title: current_video_title, // Title from our page caption: current_video_description // Text from our page } FB.ui(data); Running the Facebook Debugger shows that the current_video_url link is being properly parsed for OG tags and is available as an embedded video. I ran a debugger and all the variables are being properly set in the data variable. This worked fine for about 2 days, and then we pushed the site live. We set up a new AppID in Facebook but now all the videos are just thumbnails instead of being embedded in the user's wall. I thought maybe this is a problem with the live site but now the dev site is broken too. What's the best way to get this to work consistently?
