  • BCM4313 Wireless on Ubuntu Server 12.04

    - by KJ Tsanaktsidis
I'm trying to run an old netbook with Broadcom BCM4313 wireless as a print server with Ubuntu Server 12.04. Setting up the wireless without the GUI, however, is proving problematic. I do think however I've narrowed down the problem. I've tried both the wl driver (from bcmwl-kernel-source) as well as the (included) brcmsmac driver. With both of them, when I issue the command iwlist wlan0 scanning (eth1 for wl), I only see neighbouring networks- not my own. I believe this might be because my networks are n-only, but my neighbouring networks are mixed mode (I suspect this because the output of iwlist wlan0 scanning shows "Bit Rates" only as high as 54 Mb/s). Any ideas how to go about getting this thing to connect?

  • Ubuntu 12.04 wireless does not detect networks

    - by dudeitsdevin90
I installed Ubuntu on a partition of my MacBook Pro. Wireless connections work fine when I switch to OSX, but the wireless networks are not even detected when I boot Ubuntu. I installed Wicd as a new network manager, but I'm still having the same problem. Ubuntu works on a wired connection though. I have searched the web for a solution... similar questions have been asked but I have not been able to find a way to fix this problem. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • Windows Wireless Drivers - Install

    - by Justin Y.
I have nearly ended my journey of making a dual-boot windows xp and ubuntu computer. Along with version 12.04, came the problem with my NetGear WNDA3100v2 wireless adapter. It wasn't compatible. My last step in my adventure is to install the software called Windows Wireless Drivers. I have internet access on my laptop and a flash drive. It would be preferable to receive a link to this program, because I see no link on the website, and I can't download it from the Ubuntu Software Center. Thanks.

  • Still no wireless after b43 with Dell Inspiron 1525 (Ubuntu 12.04)

    - by DanielleN
So I followed the instructions here http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1974006 about how to solve this issue. It worked for a bit and then stopped. After doing a modprobe I could at least see my network and click on it but it would not connect (I can always see it if I look under the listed wireless networks under VPN Connections, however). I'm thinking, from what I read at least, the issue might be that my wireless switch was on during those first steps. Do I now have to undo the b43 install and do it again? Or is there something else I could try? I just made the switch to Linux yesterday, so I am hesitant at this point to mess with anything on my own. I should note now that it was installed by someone who knows what they are doing, so we are all good on that front.

  • Slow internet connection with a Digicom Wireless 11n 300m (rt2800)

    - by beboka8
After upgrading to ubuntu 11.10 the speed of my internet connection has considerably reduced. I surf on internet using a wireless usb adapter Digicom Wireless 11n 300m which works with rt2800usb driver. The fact is, on the installation cd there's no tracks of that driver but instead of it there is another one called rt2870 which I tried to load using ndiswraper, but it did not recognize any hardware. I'm not sure the solution of my problem is simply changing the driver, but I have no other ideas. Can anyone help me?

  • Setting up wireless drivers in Ubuntu 9.10?

    - by xdya
I've just installed ubuntu to a notebook, deleting the windows xp that was installed before, so now nothing works I couldn't solve the problem of getting the blank screen with the versions 12.. and 10.. so now there is 9.10 installed, which works fine. Well, it boots up at least. I can't get working the drivers though. I'm totally new to linux, and I've read in some forums that in this version you have to install all of them yourself, because the system won't detect them automatically. Therefore I tried to find the drive for my wireless card, but actually I have no clue how to get it work. Could someone please help me out? So here are the specs: System installed as mentioned: Ubuntu 9.10 Computer: Acer Aspire 3100 Wireless according to laptop specs: 10/100 Fast Ethernet, Wake-on-LAN ready, Acer InviLink™ 802.11b/g Wi-Fi CERTIFIED I would really appreciate some detailed description to setting up my internet Thanks!!

  • Newly installed DIR-615 - how to connect to the wireless?

    - by JK123
I've just installed a D-Link DIR 615, but can't figure out how to connect to the wireless.. When I double click my wireless icon in the tray, it does show the new network. Its starts the "WiFi protected setup wizard" and the first thing it asks for is the "Device Ownership Password". I have no idea what that is - I've tried the PIN and the router password. On the next page it says: SSID: _(name)__ Security type: _wpa2 personal aes ccmp_ Password: _some long key that is not what I entered during router setup_ I change the key to the one I created when setting up the router. I've also tried leaving the key as it is shown in the dialog. But it does not connect either way. All it says is "Configuration failed" So how do I connect to the new wireless network??

  • Wireless Activity Monitoring for PCI DSS Compliance

    - by dkusleika
In an effort to be PCI DSS compliant, I took a trustkeeper.net questionnaire. I failed the question that asks Is the presence of wireless access points tested for by using a wireless analyzer at least quarterly or by deploying a wireless IDS/IPS to identify all wireless devices in use? (SAQ #11.1) My only wireless access point is outside my firewall, so even if you cracked my wireless you couldn't get inside my domain (unless you crack that too). My firewall doesn't have IPS and I couldn't tell if it had IDS. I looked around for a wireless analyzer, but what I found was $500, which is a little pricey for my size business. And even if I got it, I'm not sure I would understand what it tells me. Surely there are smaller/less sophisticated businesses that take credit cards and have solved this. My questions are: What are the risks if someone were to crack my wireless? (Could they read all internet traffic? Just wireless traffic? Just use my internet connection?) And what is the best/cheapest way to test my connection point quarterly? Should I buy the $500 analyzer? Domain is Windows Server 2000. Firewall is Sonicwall Pro 2040. Router is 8 port D-link.

  • wireless to wired internet

    - by Mark T
My wife uses an old computer which doesn't really like having an internet connection via a USB wireless adapter. I've tried several, and none have been satisfactory. The connection gets dropped often and it is frustrating for her. A wireless card also had the same trouble. Repositioning the computer made no difference. (Two laptops, nearby, connect just fine and stay up, so it isn't the router.) However, the computer always worked well when I had an Ethernet cable connected to it. I know there is a box which will connect to my wireless network and provide an Ethernet cable connection. But the terminology used is so complex, I can't tell what it is I really need. In case that wasn't clear, here it is in different words: What I need is just the opposite of a wireless router. My wireless router takes my cable modem's Ethernet connection and makes it available to wireless clients. What I want is a box which is a wireless client to my wireless router and provides an Ethernet cable connection that I can connect to any device. I need to know the right name for a box with such capabilities. If you know of some inexpensive examples, that would also be helpful. I'm running a wireless G network with a Linksys Router.

  • Anyone have BlazeDS working with WebLogic Security (j_security_check) ??

    - by Brian
I'm working on a Flex implementation (currently using SDK 3.5) on WebLogic 10.3 (11G.) We originally used Glassfish v2.1.1 with zero issues (there was an active directory group lookup bug but it did not hinder our progress.) Since transitioning to WebLogic we have an issue where the flexsession is invalidated after logging in using j_security_check: [BlazeDS]Unexpected error encountered in Message Broker servlet flex.messaging.LocalizedException: The FlexSession is invalid. at flex.messaging.FlexSession.checkValid(FlexSession.java:943) at flex.messaging.FlexSession.getUserPrincipal(FlexSession.java:254) at flex.messaging.HttpFlexSession.getUserPrincipal(HttpFlexSession.java:286) at flex.messaging.MessageBrokerServlet.service(MessageBrokerServlet.java:296) at javax.servlet.http.HttpServlet.service(HttpServlet.java:820) at weblogic.servlet.internal.StubSecurityHelper$ServletServiceAction.run(StubSecurityHelper.java:227) at weblogic.servlet.internal.StubSecurityHelper.invokeServlet(StubSecurityHelper.java:125) at weblogic.servlet.internal.ServletStubImpl.execute(ServletStubImpl.java:292) at weblogic.servlet.internal.ServletStubImpl.execute(ServletStubImpl.java:175) at weblogic.servlet.internal.WebAppServletContext$ServletInvocationAction.run(WebAppServletContext.java:3594) at weblogic.security.acl.internal.AuthenticatedSubject.doAs(AuthenticatedSubject.java:321) at weblogic.security.service.SecurityManager.runAs(SecurityManager.java:121) at weblogic.servlet.internal.WebAppServletContext.securedExecute(WebAppServletContext.java:2202) at weblogic.servlet.internal.WebAppServletContext.execute(WebAppServletContext.java:2108) at weblogic.servlet.internal.ServletRequestImpl.run(ServletRequestImpl.java:1432) at weblogic.work.ExecuteThread.execute(ExecuteThread.java:201) at weblogic.work.ExecuteThread.run(ExecuteThread.java:173) I've tried almost every option in services-config.xml: [security [login-command class="flex.messaging.security.WeblogicLoginCommand" server="Weblogic"/> [!-- Uncomment the correct app server [login-command class="flex.messaging.security.TomcatLoginCommand" server="JBoss"> [login-command class="flex.messaging.security.JRunLoginCommand" server="JRun"/> [login-command class="flex.messaging.security.TomcatLoginCommand" server="Tomcat"/> [login-command class="flex.messaging.security.WebSphereLoginCommand" server="WebSphere"/> --> [/security> I've even completely removed this section with no luck. The login functions correctly from a non-BlazeDS perspective. It authenticates the user correctly. Without authentication, BlazeDS works fine (no errors for any remote calls.) Together its a big ball of fail (invalid flexsession every time.) Has anyone got this working? Any tips?

  • Taking the fear out of a Cloud initiative through the use of security tools

    - by user736511
Typical employees, constituents, and business owners  interact with online services at a level where their knowledge of back-end systems is low, and most of the times, there is no interest in knowing the systems' architecture.  Most application administrators, while partially responsible for these systems' upkeep, have very low interactions with them, at least at an operational, platform level.  Of greatest interest to these groups is the consistent, reliable, and manageable operation of the interfaces with which they communicate.  Introducing the "Cloud" topic in any evolving architecture automatically raises the concerns for data and identity security simply because of the perception that when owning the silicon, enterprises are not able to manage its content.  But is this really true?   In the majority of traditional architectures, data and applications that access it are physically distant from the organization that owns it.  It may reside in a shared data center, or a geographically convenient location that spans large organizations' connectivity capabilities.  In the end, very often, the model of a "traditional" architecture is fairly close to the "new" Cloud architecture.  Most notable difference is that by nature, a Cloud setup uses security as a core function, and not as a necessary add-on. Therefore, following best practices, one can say that data can be safer in the Cloud than in traditional, stove-piped environments where data access is segmented and difficult to audit. The caveat is, of course, what "best practices" consist of, and here is where Oracle's security tools are perfectly suited for the task.  Since Oracle's model is to support very large organizations, it is fundamentally concerned about distributed applications, databases etc and their security, and the related Identity Management Products, or DB Security options reflect that concept.  In the end, consumers of applications and their data are to be served more safely in a controlled Cloud environment, while realizing the many cost savings associated with it. Having very fast resources to serve them (such as the Exa* platform) makes the concept even more attractive.  Finally, if a Cloud strategy does not seem feasible, consider the pros and cons of a traditional vs. a Cloud architecture.  Using the exact same criteria and business goals/traditions, and with Oracle's technology, you might be hard pressed to justify maintaining the technical status quo on security alone. Before jumping into the steps that are needed to configure Internet Explorer's security settings, let us first take a closer look at the four separate security zones that Microsoft has established for the browser. You will be able to tweak the settings of each of these four zones when we get into the configuration part of this tutorial, so it is best that you learn what they represent first. • Wifi installation issues with a Sitecom 300N x2 Wireless Network dongle

    - by SlyrNemesis
Linux newbie here, anyway so here is the problem, I run Ubuntu 10.10 and I have a Sitecom 300N x2 Wireless Network dongle with chipset 8192SU, I used ndiswrapper to install my Windows Wireless driver because Sitecom doesn't have a linux driver, it says hardware present but it doesn't find any Wireless networks, nor does it connect to one. • Wireless connection works but the internet is too slow to use in Ubuntu 11.04

    - by Garrin
The internet is so slow as to be unusable. And I'm not being picky. Even after minutes I can't get my Google home page to load. I tried installing a package through apt-get and was getting rates between 0 and a few hundred bytes/s. That's bytes, not kilobytes! Mostly 0 however (no exaggeration, it spends large amounts of time stalled). And I would go to a speed test web site of some kind but I can't since nothing will load. Briefly put, the laptop I am using was connected to two wireless networks while using Ubuntu 11.04 without any issues before this. It was also connected to a wired network without any issues. It dual boats Windows 7 which has never had any issues, not even with the current wireless network. Just to be clear, on the current wi-fi network, Windows 7 encounters no issues (speedtest.net puts the network speed at 1mb/s) but my network connection in Ubuntu 11.04 is so slow as to literally be unusable. I am unfamiliar with the router except for the fact that it boasts a Rogers logo (that's a large ISP/cable provider in Canada for those not familiar with the land of igloos and polar bears). I am far from the router and some desktop widget I use tells me the signal strength is at 58% (it seems fairly reliable and this would appear to match up with the filled bars in the network icon). I should also mention I'm just renting a room in this house so I'm not the network administrator and while I can access the 192.168.0.1 router page, the password wasn't set to 'password' so it's not much use to me. Here are a bunch of commands I ran which don't tell me a whole lot but I thought might be more instructive to the wise around here: lspci (just showing my network card): 05:00.0 Network controller: Atheros Communications Inc. • Acer Aspire 3680 Wireless Signal Problem

    - by SHiNKiROU
I am using Acer Aspire 3680. I recently reinstalled Windows Vista, and the wireless did not work by default. I installed the "Atheros Wireless LAN Driver" on this site: http://support.acer-euro.com/drivers/notebook/as_3680.html The result, the wireless APs are successfully scanned. However, when I tried to join a network, even with 5/5 signal, an error message showed up diagnosing signal too little. I restarted as Ubuntu, and wireless worked perfectly, with same computer position. Even more confusing, When I moved to the kitchen (2 meters close to the router), the wireless connected, when I move back to my room, wireless failed on Vista and worked on Ubuntu. It is clearly the driver problem. Acer laptops seems come with pre-installed drivers, but after re-installation, they are all gone. (I can't find the original Acer backup disc) Please do not answer "move closer to the AP" and something related to "interference", as wireless worked with Ubuntu's default driver.

  • Wireless not working - HP Probook 4540s

    - by Oguzhan
I just installed Ubuntu 12.04 on 3 HP Probook 4540s's, and none of them seems to be able to connect to wireless networks. I have 1 Probook 4540s with Windows 7 installed and I can access wlan from it. I tried installing the necessary drivers from HP's website, but it still doesn't seem to be working. I've seen other people with different Probooks having similar problems, but their computers seem to be able to detect and even attempt to connect wlans, while mine doesn't even acknowledge that it has wireless. Any help would be appreciated. lspci: 00:00.0 Host bridge: Intel Corporation Ivy Bridge DRAM Controller (rev 09) 00:01.0 PCI bridge: Intel Corporation Ivy Bridge PCI Express Root Port (rev 09) 00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation Ivy Bridge Graphics Controller (rev 09) 00:14.0 USB controller: Intel Corporation Panther Point USB xHCI Host Controller (rev 04) 00:16.0 Communication controller: Intel Corporation Panther Point MEI Controller #1 (rev 04) 00:1a.0 USB controller: Intel Corporation Panther Point USB Enhanced Host Controller #2 (rev 04) 00:1b.0 Audio device: Intel Corporation Panther Point High Definition Audio Controller (rev 04) 00:1c.0 PCI bridge: Intel Corporation Panther Point PCI Express Root Port 1 (rev c4) 00:1c.2 PCI bridge: Intel Corporation Panther Point PCI Express Root Port 3 (rev c4) 00:1c.3 PCI bridge: Intel Corporation Panther Point PCI Express Root Port 4 (rev c4) 00:1c.5 PCI bridge: Intel Corporation Panther Point PCI Express Root Port 6 (rev c4) 00:1d.0 USB controller: Intel Corporation Panther Point USB Enhanced Host Controller #1 (rev 04) 00:1f.0 ISA bridge: Intel Corporation Panther Point LPC Controller (rev 04) 00:1f.2 SATA controller: Intel Corporation Panther Point 6 port SATA Controller [AHCI mode] (rev 04) 01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: Advanced Micro Devices [AMD] nee ATI Thames [Radeon 7500M/7600M Series] 03:00.0 System peripheral: JMicron Technology Corp. • Troubleshooting wireless network connectivity

    - by taserian
I'm currently running Ubuntu 10.10, and I'm running into trouble keeping my wireless connection alive. After rebooting, I get about 5-10 minutes of a good speed connection; afterwards, the connection just zeroes out. I've gotten around to stirring up a shell script that gives me another 10 minutes or so of connectivity. Script contents below: #! /bin/bash sudo ifconfig wlan0 up echo "Enabling wireless device . . ." sleep 5 sudo iwconfig wlan0 essid MyNetworkName echo "Connecting to network. . ." sleep 10 sudo dhclient wlan0 echo "Getting IP address. . ." sleep 5 echo "Done. Closing window. . ." sleep 5 Shortly after running the line "sudo iwconfig wlan0 essid MyNetworkName" from the script, I notice the speed pick up. Other computers in my home running Windows XP are not affected by this problem, so all indications point to my Ubuntu machine. Does anyone have any pointers as to how to resolve this?

  • 12.10 Wireless hotspot configuration and internet browsing - question

    - by Indian
In our campus we have a leased line connection from a service provider, which has an external IP W.X.Y.Z. This connection is distributed from the server several sub-networks / subnets as follows: Faculty: 172.33....../ 255.255.0.0 Administration: 172.34......./255.255.255.0 Students: 172.35...../255.255.216.0 A student has a laptop with a fixed IP address 172.35.23.123 / 255.255.216.0 where the IP address is on the ethernet port. The gateways for internet access are 172.31.1.1 and 172.31.1.2. Further the student has a wireless port which is inaccessible in the hostel area. The OS of the student is Ubuntu 12.10. The student in the possession of an android phone on which he wishes to install specific software and therefore wishes to activate the internet therein. The student has already attempted the Wireless hotspot solution which works for 12.04 but has not been successful. Various instructions on the internet have helped the student to do the following Installation of dhcp server and hostapd: sudo apt-get install isc-dhcp-server sudo apt-get install hostapd File: /etc/network/interfaces auto lo iface lo inet loopback auto wlan0 iface wlan0 inet static address 10.10.0.1 netmask 255.255.255.0 dns-nameservers 172.31.1.1 172.31.1.2 File: /etc/dhcp/dhcpd.conf subnet 10.10.0.0 netmask 255.255.255.0 { range 10.10.0.2 10.10.0.4; option routers 10.10.0.1; option domain-name-servers 172.31.1.1 172.31.1.2; default-lease-time 6000; max-lease-time 72000; } File: /etc/hostapd/hostapd.conf interface=wlan0 driver=nl80211 ssid=my_hotspot channel=1 hw_mode=g auth_algs=1 wpa=3 wpa_passphrase=1234567890 wpa_key_mgmt=WPA-PSK wpa_pairwise=TKIP CCMP rsn_pairwise=CCMP File: /etc/default/hostapd RUN_DAEMON=”yes” DAEMON_CONF=”/etc/hostapd/hostapd.conf” DAEMON_OPTS=”-dd” File: /etc/default/isc-dhcp-server INTERFACES=”wlan0” File: /etc/rc.local iptables -t nat -A POSTROUTING -s 10.10.0.0/16 -o eth0 -j MASQUERADE exit 0 After all the configuration, the computer is restarted. The student can see that the hotspot named “my_hotspot” is available. The hotspot also awards an address to the android phone. The student will now be able to browse the internet.
