    Quest I am looking to fetch rows that have accented characters. The encoding for the column (NAME) is latin1_swedish_ci. The Code The following query returns Abord â Plouffe using phpMyAdmin: SELECT C.NAME FROM CITY C WHERE C.REGION_ID=10 AND C.NAME_LOWERCASE LIKE '%abor%' ORDER BY C.NAME LIMIT 30 The following displays expected values (function is called db_fetch_all( $result )): while( $row = mysql_fetch_assoc( $result ) ) { foreach( $row as $value ) { echo $value . " "; $value = utf8_encode( $value ); echo $value . " "; } $r[] = $row; } The displayed values: 5482 5482 Abord â Plouffe Abord â Plouffe The array is then encoded using json_encode: $rows = db_fetch_all( $result ); echo json_encode( $rows ); Problem The web browser receives the following value: {"ID":"5482","NAME":null} Instead of: {"ID":"5482","NAME":"Abord â Plouffe"} (Or the encoded equivalent.) Question The documentation states that json_encode() works on UTF-8. I can see the values being encoded from LATIN1 to UTF-8. After the call to json_encode(), however, the value becomes null. How do I make json_encode() encode the UTF-8 values properly? One possible solution is to use the Zend Framework, but I'd rather not if it can be avoided.

    I have divs that I want to display at specific times throughout the day. I have it working in PHP, but it requires refreshing the browser manually. I would like my script to automatically load the right div when the time is right. Am I on the right track? Perhaps there is a jquery plugin for this sort of thing that would handle the refreshing?     I'm having trouble getting autocompleteextender (from ajaxcontroltoolkit) to fire when it is on a user control (it works fine when everything is on an aspx page. In my case I'm using a master page as well as a user control. Here's what I have.     Does the jQuery $.ajaxSetup method not respect the data field in the options hash when $.post or $.get is called? For example, I might have this code: $.ajaxSetup({ data: { persist: true } }); Then, to send a POST request, I would call this: $.post("/create/something", { name: "foo" }); I was expecting the actual POST data to look like this: { persist: true, name: "foo" } but the only data sent by $.post is { name: "foo" }. Is there any way to get the expected behavior? I'm using jQuery 1.4.1.

    I have a PhoneNumber class that stores a normalized string, and I've defined implicit operators for string <- Phone to simplify treatment of the PhoneNumber as a string. I've also overridden the ToString() method to always return the cleaned version of the number (no hyphens or parentheses or spaces). In any MVC.NET code where I explicitly display the number, I can explicitly call phone.Format(). The problem here is serializing an entity that has a PhoneNumber to JSON; JavaScriptSerializer serializes it as [object Object]. I want to serialize it as a string in (555)555-5555 format. I've looked at writing a custom JavaScriptConverter, but JavaScriptConverter.Serialize() method returns a dictionary of name-value pairs. I don't want PhoneNumber to be treated as an object with fields, I want to simply serialize it as a string.

    I want to be able to show some data based on criteria the user enters in a text field. I can easily take this data, process the form post, and show the data on another page. However, I want to be able to do it all on the same page - they click the button, and a new div shows up with the information. This doesn't seem too complicated, but I want to use jstl tags to format the data like: <c:forEach items="${model.data}" var="d"> <tr> <td><fmt:formatDate type="date" dateStyle="short" timeStyle="default" value="${d.reportDate}" /></td> <td><c:out value="${d.cardType}"/></td> </tr> </c:forEach> If jstl tags are processed when the page loads, can I use that in this new div? Can I update it via a javascript (using prototype) function to display the proper data? Will I be able to do the same thing if they change the criteria and click the submit button again?

  • Having trouble with fadeIn and fadeOut in IE8 with jQuery

    Guys, Here is my site: http://www.dreamweddinggroup.com/redesign and I'm having a hell of a tough time figuring out why in gods name my fadeIn, fadeOut and corner() functions won't work in IE8. They were working for a time, but now they have broken and I can't for the life of me figure it out. Can anybody see anything that would cause the problem here? To see what I'm talking about, if you were to click on the "About Us" link at the bottom of the page, you should see the text fade in. Then if you were to click on "Why Dream Wedding Group", the "About Us" text should fade out, and when it fades back in, you would see the new text. Thank you, Joe

The CascadingDropDownList works as expected until "Anonymous access" and "Integrated Windows Authentication" flags are both checked (and this is the situation in the production environment) in the Directory Security settings on the website under IIS. The error I get is: 500 Internal Server Error No web service found at: If I uncheck the anonymous access or the windows authentication everything is ok. Any suggestions?

    I have written a small rails app to serve up content to another site via xmlhttprequests that will be operating from another domain (it will not be possible to get them running on the same server). I understand I will need to set access-control-allow-origin on my rails server to allow the requesting web page to access this material. It seems fairly well documented how to do this with Apache and this is probably the server I will use once I deploy the site. While I am developing though I hope to just use webrick as I am used to doing with rails. Is there a way of configuring webrick to provide the appropriate http header within rails?

  • How to control Dojo FilteringSelect default rendering!?

    Hi, I have a dojo dijit.filering.select that populates with values from a dojo.data.ItemFileReadStore. Everything is working fine except I would like the filtering select to automatically get populated with the first value in the itemFileReadStore. Currently it is loading them as a list of options that are revealed when you click the down arrow, as per spec. I would instead like filteringSelect to be loaded with the first value. How do I do this? For some reason I cant figure it out. Any help would be hugely appreciated! And in main page bind data using ids in session variable.Gridview - on deleting event i'm deleting that id from session and on deleted event updating both user control using a refresh method (Country1.Refresh()) and gridview panel. But updatepanel is not getting updated and even modalpopup is also not getting refreshed. What could be wrong here? Even though update and refresh events are fired and executed, why is page not getting updated?
