• Freeware Local Proxy for Proxy Chaining with HTTPAUTH

  I am looking for a freeware local proxy to perform proxy-chaining with HTTPAUTH. To explain my situation: In my workplace I am forced to keep switching between several internet-connected apps, and thus everytime I have to type in the credentials (or, at least, click on 'OK' to send my previously-saved credential). To make matters more annoying, the proxy login times out every 30 minutes, requiring me to lather-rinse-repeat the whole annoyance. I'd like to just point them all to a locally installed proxy which will on its own perform the required HTTPAUTH against the corporate proxy. I've tried Cntlm, but it always fail to authenticate (and according to this thread, that is due to the proxy using HTTPAUTH which is not supported by Cntlm) Any suggestions? ETA: I found Polipo, but it's kinda wonky on Windows. Especially if I visit a new URL, and the DNS server is a bit slow, then Polipo will simply drop/refuse the connection. And I have to put my password in plaintext. If there's a better suggestion, I'm all ears.

• Clarification required re use of .NET Assemblies in GAC - Use to use Globally?

  Hi, I've done much reading and experimentation today regarding sigining of assemblies, and their installation into the GAC via various methods (mscorcfg.msc / drag and drop). What I thought, was that once a file was in the GAC, you did not need to make references from projects in Visual studio. I know that you CAN make references via the usual Add Reference, Browse etc, but I thought it was automatic. Testing proves this not to be the case. I came across a forum post looking to achieve the same outcome that suggested adding to the machine.config file under system.web as below. This did not work, it in fact broke visual studio until I removed it. <assemblies> <add assembly="Blah.Framework.Logging, Version=1.0.3806.25580, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=0beed4b631ebc3cd" /> </assemblies> What I want to know, is am I right in my assumed use of assemblies in the GAC, and is there a way of making them globally available?

• Windows 2008 Server in Amazon EC2 stops responding when SSTP/VPN connection is closed

  All, I have a single Windows 2008 server running in Amazon's EC2 cloud. It's running a web application that is running fine and is accessible to the outside world. I need 3-5 developers to be able to work on database on the server, and was intending to accomplish this by setting up SSTP/RRAS on the server and letting them VPN in. This has been a bit of an ordeal due to the amount of server roles and messing with certificates that has been needed, but my VPN connection works now (all clients will be Windows 7). My problem is that when I drop my VPN connection (from the client side) the server hangs. The only way that I've found to get it back is to reboot it from the Amazon management console.   Greetings! Last semester in college, my teacher in the Computer Languages class taught us the esoteric language named Whitespace. In the interest of learning the language better with a very busy schedule (midterms), I wrote an interpreter and assembler in Python. An assembly language was designed to facilitate writing programs easily, and a sample program was written with the given assembly mnemonics. Now that it is summer, a new project has begun with the objective being to rewrite the interpreter and assembler for Whitespace 0.3, with further developments coming afterwards. Since there is so much extra time than before to work on its design, you are presented here with an outline that provides a revised set of mnemonics for the assembly language. This post is marked as a wiki for their discussion. Have you ever had any experience with assembly languages in the past? Were there some instructions that you thought should have been renamed to something different? Did you find yourself thinking outside the box and with a different paradigm than in which the mnemonics were named? If you can answer yes to any of those questions, you are most welcome here. Subjective answers are appreciated! Stack Manipulation (IMP: [Space]) Stack manipulation is one of the more common operations, hence the shortness of the IMP [Space]. There are four stack instructions. hold N Push the number onto the stack copy Duplicate the top item on the stack copy N Copy the nth item on the stack (given by the argument) onto the top of the stack swap Swap the top two items on the stack drop Discard the top item on the stack drop N Slide n items off the stack, keeping the top item Arithmetic (IMP: [Tab][Space]) Arithmetic commands operate on the top two items on the stack, and replace them with the result of the operation. • How do I remove the "Shutdown" menu entry from Gnome's system menu?

  We have a lab with multiple RedHat EL5 machines running the Gnome desktop environment. When developers are done using the machine sometimes they miss the logout button and click the Shutdown button by mistake (easy to do, I've done it myself). Needless to say, for those remoted into the lab it's sometimes devastating. Is there a way to remove the Shutdown entry for all users from the Gnome menu? Note: I do not mean Shutdown on the greeter, but the Shutdown button on the menu drop down that is next to logout, sleep, etc.

• Removing views from UIScrollView

  I have two UIScrollViews that I move images between. The user can drag and forth between the scroll views. I am trying to animate the movement of the image from one scroll view to another. In -touchesMoved (handled in my UIViewController which has two custom UIScrollViews that intercept touch and sends to my UIViewController), I am trying to set the "center" of my UIImageView that is being moved. As it is moved, the image gets hidden behind the UIScrollView and not visible. How do I make it appear on top of the UIScrollView? I am able to handle the -touchesEnded properly by animating in the destination scroll view. I am also confused about -convertPoint:fromView: usage in the iPhone Programming Guide (See Chapter 3, Event Handling). If the touch coordinates are in window coordinates, to change my view (UIImageView inside a UIScrollView which is inside a UIView and inside a window) center don't I have to use -convertPoint:toView:, i.e., imageView.center = [self.view.window convertPoint:currentTouchPosition toView:imageView]; What am I missing?

• HP Photosmart 7450 Prints Noise On Windows 7 Pro 64-bit

  I have received a working (in its last location) HP Photosmart 7450 printer. I connected it up to my Windows 7 Pro 64-bit workstation, and the driver was (apparently) installed. The problem is that whenever I try to print from it -- test page, text from notepad, picture, whatever -- it spins through a half dozen sheets of paper, some of which have fractions of text on them, but most of which are either blank or have line noise printed on them. Noise similar to what was printed out on ye olde laserjet printers when the postscript interpreter failed. HP's web site only has a "use the included driver in Windows 7, be happy" instruction. The driver has been removed and added several times. The printer was previously attached to a XP Home computer and worked correctly without incident. Does anyone have any ideas for troubleshooting before I drop this printer in the river?

• Music tagging software more consistent than Tag&Rename?

  A few years ago I spent an insane amount of time using the excellent Tag&Rename program. However, I find that for random, inexplicable reasons, some music tools simply disregard my tags, drop or destroy the album art, or have strange handling around some characters. For example, "AC/DC" is poorly handled by most music players when I use Tag&Rename to write the tags. And if I write the tag in iTunes, Winamp seems to not like it, vice versa, and neither of those work with Amarok. Is there a piece of software that works like Tag&Rename but is more compatible, or is there a way to ensure Tag&Rename writes more compatible tags?

  How can I measure Citrix receiver framerate at the client end? I've tried FRAPS, but that doesn't seem to work. Is there a way to determine how many "frames" are sent per second from the client side? Assume a Windows 7 client connecting to a Windows 7 VM using the Citrix web plugin. To restate the question, how could I potentially measure the Citrix client's frame display rate for some 200px^2 area? Assume that the remote VM will try and play back a frame sequence at 24fps. Will any frames drop?

  I realize some similar questions have been asked along these lines before, but from reading-through them today, it appears they don't match my use case. I am looking for a web-based, non-hosted time and project tracking tool. I've downloaded Collabtive so far, but am looking for other suggestions, too. My list of requirements: runs on standard LAMP stack non-hosted (ie, there is an option to download and run it on a local server) not a desktop/single-user application easy-to-use - my audience is a mix of technical and non-technical folks easy to maintain - when time for upgrading comes, I'd really like to not have to rebuild the app (a la ./configure ; make ; make install) needs to support multiple users free-form project additions: we don't have a central project management authority (users should be able to add whatever they're working on, not merely from a drop-down) Does anyone here have experience with such tools? It doesn't have to be free.. but free is always nice :)

• java/swing: Shape questions: serializing and combining

  I have two questions about java.awt.Shape. Suppose I have two Shapes, shape1 and shape2. How can I serialize them in some way so I can save the information to a file and later recreate it on another computer? (Shape is not Serializable but it does have the getPathIterator() method which seems like you could get the information out but it would be kind of a drag + I'm not sure how to reconstruct a Shape object afterwards.) How can I combine them into a new Shape so that they form a joint boundary? (e.g. if shape1 is a large square and shape2 is a small circle inside the square, I want the combined shape to be a large square with a small circular hole)

  I have a simple gtk.TreeView with a gtk.ListStore model and set_reorderable(True), I want to catch the signal/event emited when the user reorder through drag&drop the list, but the documentation does not help much: "The application can listen to these changes by connecting to the model's signals" So I tried to connect the model (ListStore) signals... but surprise! ListStore has no signals, so you are dispatched to TreeModel signals, then I tried to connect with the TreeModel "rows-reordered" signal with no lucky. How should I catch the list reorder performed by the user?

But when you drop down the tab to search: This Site: "blog site name" you get the following reply: No results matching your search were found. Check your spelling. Are the words in your query spelled correctly? Try using synonyms. Maybe what you're looking for uses slightly different words. Make your search more general. Try more general terms in place of specific ones. Try your search in a different scope. Different scopes can have different results. • CKEditor Modal Issues.

  So I'm using CKeditor inside of a jQueryUI dialog. The issue I'm having is when you click on a button like the "link" button, the modal that pops up, won't let me type anything into it's inputs. I can change the values of the pull downs, I can drag the modal around the screen, and I can click on the buttons. But when I attempt to type into the text inputs, nothing happens. Has anyone else come across this? If so, did they find a solution? Thanks! Maybe this has something to do with it? http://dev.jqueryui.com/ticket/4309 But I'm using 1.7.2...

• How can I shrink the Address toolbar in the Task Bar?

  I like being able to run commands straight from my Task Bar. So, I've enabled the Address toolbar on my new Windows 7 system - just like I had on my old XP system. However, the bar seems to have a mandatory minimum length that's a bit longer than I'd prefer. It's about twice as long, if memory serves, as the minimum size allowed in XP. Is there any way I can adjust this minimum length, through a Registry key or some other means? (Note: I've also got a related question, about removing the Refresh button at the end of the bar.) EDIT: For clarity, I'm adding a screenshot. The toolbar I want to shorten is the one circled below, with an empty text-entry field that has a drop-down and "Refresh" button. I currently have it positioned between a Quick Launch toolbar and the Taskbar. On the far side of the Taskbar, before the System Tray, is a Desktop toolbar.

• How do I remove Slony from a restored PostgreSQL database?

  I've restored a database which came from a server on which Slony was running. The server on which the database has been restored does not have Slony installed. When the database restored, there were a lot of errors reported, with Slony related objects not getting created due to Slony related logins being missing. This I thought was not a problem, as losing the Slony objects didn't seem to matter, and infact seemed desirable. However, now I've got an anoying, if not critical problem. Whenever one clicks on a table in the newly restored DB in PGAdmin, a Slony related error popup ... pops up. The first one reads: "An error has occured: ERROR: function _rmscl.getlocalnodeid(unknown) does not exist" I notice that under the Replication node in PGAdmin, that there is a Slony replication cluster. Trying to drop this cluster results in more object missing type errors. Does anyone have any ideas how we can remove the last vestiges of Slony from this database?

• Custom animation problem in Powerpoint 2003

  I have an animation of a grid that scrolls to the left. It's a Gantt chart, and it works fine. I then have several elements I want to drop on the grid, I give them all the same movement animation and this works fine, everything scrolls at the same speed and time. However I want to add entrance animations for the elements on the grid, I can have it so that when all the entrance animations are complete then it starts scrolling, but I want it to enter whilst it is scrolling. How do you have an entrance animation for an element and keep it's position updated? The entrance animation and movement animation don't seem to work together as expected when run simultaneously. cheers!
