• How does array class work in Java?

  In Java, array is a class and extends Object. I am curious to know about this special array class. I don't find the class definition anywhere. Doing a getClass().getName() gives strange result. String[] array = new String[]{"one","two"}; System.out.println(array.getClass().getName()); // prints [Ljava.lang.String; I want to understand how array works under the hood. Is the array class definition hardcoded in the JVM? Any resources, books, links on this will be helpful. Thank you.

• Java Instance of: Supertypes and Subtypes seem to be equal? How to test exactly for Type?

  I need to test, if an instance is exactly of a given type. But it seems that instanceof returns true also if the subtype is tested for the supertype (case 3). I never knew this before and I am quite surprised. Am I doing something wrong here? How do I exactly test for a given type? //.. class DataSourceEmailAttachment extends EmailAttachment //...   I'm testing come code in a service with transactional set to true , which talks to a customer supplied web service the main part of which looks like class BarcodeService { .. /// some stuff ... try{ cancelBarCodeResponse = cancelBarCode(cancelBarcodeRequest) } catch(myCommsException e) { throw new RuntimeException(e) } ... where myCommsException extends Exception .. I have a test which looks like // As no connection from my machine, it should fail .. shouldFailWithCause(RuntimeException){ barcodeServices.cancelBarcodeDetails() } The test fails cause it's catching a myCommsException rather than the RuntimeException i thought i'd converted it to .. Anyone care to point out what i'm doing wrong ? Also will the fact that it's not a RuntimeException mean any transaction related info done before my try/catch actually be written out rather than thrown away ?? Thanks

That way, if you're making a network request with a thread, and someone changes the orientation of the phone, the thread will know to use the new Activity. However, is it possible that the thread could finish during the time Android is destroying the old Activity and creating a new one? Is there a moment in the process where the thread still might be pointing to the wrong Activity, or a partially destroyed activity? It seems like there shouldn't be, but even using a Handler created in the main thread, I'm having intermittent issues with a thread trying to update an object that no longer exists. It's rare, but it does happen.

Currently, I get the following error, which makes sense. • IE 6 dropdown selection area too narrow

  Hi, I have a dropdown menu with the width set to 142px however the selection area when you drop down the menu needs to be larger as it has text that exceeds this width. Firefox (and most modern browsers) is clever and extends the selection area to fit in this text. However IE 6 and unchecked newer versions of IE do not show this text and keep the selection area the same width as the dropdown unclicked. The problem lies here, how can I get IE to extend the selection area where you click the selection you want without increasing the width of the dropdown area with out the dropdown selection showing.   I would like to create a UserControl that will have some behavior(animated collapsing...) and some Controls in it (Rectangle, Ellipse, mostly for design purposes). However I need it to be a valid Panel like Grid so I can put more controls in it when designing main window. Controls that will be add to the new USerControl in main window design time does not need to interact with components that are added to it when creating a UserControl. How should I do this ? Do I have to extends Control? I'd prefer to extend just UserControl.

I use Google collections' MapMaker, like this: Map<Class<? extends Object>, Set<Foo>> map = new MapMaker().weakKeys().weakValues().makeMap(); So, for Set<Foo>, can I use a normal HashSet? Or, do I have to create a weak HashSet, like this: Collections.newSetFromMap(new WeakHashMap<Foo, Boolean>()); And why? Another question, the key of my map is Class objects, when will a Class object become weakly reachable? In other words, what is the lifetime of a Class object? Thanks.

• PHPUnit test for error thrown with wrong argument type

  I'm just starting with PHPUnit and am ok with all assert* methods, but can't figure out how to test for error thrown when the wrong argument is provided to the method - say hinted with array like so: public function(array $list) { } and then tested with null as argument. Could someone please provide an example of how to test for this sort of errors? I've checked quite a few posts on stackoverflow, but couldn't find the answer to this specific issue.   HI,I need to create a GridView which DataSource is an object. Depending on the object I may need some columns with DropDownLists or TextFields (but not all rows) As I don't know the number or columns, they have to be dynamic. I found this solution: TemplateField t = new TemplateField(); t.HeaderTemplate = new GridViewTemplate("header", "title"); t.ItemTemplate = new GridViewTemplate("combobox", "val"); GridView1.Columns.Add(t); GridView1.DataSource = ds; GridView1.DataBind(); Where GridViewTemplate extends ITemplate. This didn't work for me, it fills all rows of a column and I had no way to control witch DropDownList and TextFields need to be created (object info). All the DropDownLists need to have an ID also only known by the object. There are some way I can do this?

Everytime something went wrong, my boss tells me: "Hey look, the page runs nicely in the android browser, so it has to run that way in the app. Make it happen."   I use the Magento block cache for the top navigation block. The problem is the block has to generate some urls for files in the skin directory that cannot be put into css files as the file names depend on category model data. Now when I open magento using a secure connection (https://) the navigation block is fetched from the cache and is sent to the browser but with the http:// urls resulting in a warning in most browsers about unsecure elements on the page. I'd like the have separat caches for secure and unsecure connections. One thing they want to see is that the middle button-drag does what the left button-drag normally does (we are repurposing left-drag to other things). So it needs the two key features that left-drag does in a ListBox default implementation: While holding down the button and dragging, the selection starts where I click down and extends to where I drag. While dragging outside the listbox region, it scrolls if there is scrollable space in that direction. Before I go an duplicate this functionality by hand, is there any easy way to fool ListBox into thinking it's getting left-mouse drag events but instead is getting middle-mouse?

• Cannot get principal id on my Spock test

• Need CSS Help with a hover element - cant extend to left and right of page

  Hi there, Need some CSS guru help. If you visit my link: http://www.gabbr.com/js/viewer/cmedata/index1.html and hover over the years (top middles, 2008, 2009, 2010, etc) you will notice an orange bar extending from the top to the bottom of the page. I am trying to get the same effect on the left (month and day) but am unable to do so. The problem I am having is that I cannot get the orange hover bar to extend off the left of the screen for either #dayleft or for #monthleft. It extends all the way to the right margin of the screen but not the left. The problem is the margin-left: 15px; in #monthleft and margin-left: 80px; in #dayleft. But I cannot get rid of these since I require them for the letter spacing. Any advice?

However, I can't get this program to work; every time I run it, it says that the application has stopped unexpectedly. • Adding a UIView to a UITableViewCell via cell.contentView

  I have a class called GraphView that extends UIView that basically draws a small little line chart. I need one of these graphs at the top of each section in my UITableView. So I tried by creating a separate cell at the top of one of my sections and then on that cell I did: [cell.contentView addSubview:graphView]; [graphView release]; But when I scroll down, it's like the graph is glitchy and it shows up in random spots along the UITableView. Anyone have ideas or insight? Is there a better way to incorporate another UIView into the top of each section in my UITableView?
