• Drupal: Template Files, Modules and Content Types for Advanced Theme

  Intro I am in the process of trying to convert my first HTML/CSS design into a theme for Drupal. I have used ModX for quite a few designs and appreciate the ability to create different page templates and custom variables to be assigned to those templates. However I seem to be having some issues making the transition. The site I am working on theming in Drupal is for a real estate agent. Each page/section will have a different set of content associated with it and will need to display only that content. For example, there will be a page for current listings, each of which will be formatted by a custom content type. However, when I call the content on the home page (or on other pages) I do not want to see this listing data. Layout The layout of the site and the regions associated with each page/section is as follows: Home Spotlight Featured 1 Featured 2 About Spotlight Bios - Profiles of each agent (each will be a node with name, contact info, pic, etc) listed on the page; multiple nodes listed Sidebar Listings Spotlight Listings - Profiles of properties (each will be a node with locations, basic info, pic, etc) listed on the page; multiple nodes listed Sidebar Services Spotlight Content - general paragraph text area Sidebar News/Blog News/Blog Items - List of stories with summaries and links to full article Sidebar Each page/section will use the same header and footer. Issue I have done some reading on Drupal, custom content types (and CCK), Views, and Pathauto. However I have not been able to get a clear picture of how to put it all together to accomplish what I am attempting. What I really would like to know is which modules to use, how best to use them, which elements I need to use where, and what template files I should be using to theme the elements I need to use. Any help or reference to useful resources would be much appreciated.

  I have spent some time now learning RESHAPE2 and plyr but I still do not get it. This time I have a problem with (a) subtotals and (b) passing different aggregate functions . Sorry I meant to say example total sold for all publishers There is a problem with the columns with “ratio”. How can I get “mean” instead of “sum” for this variable ? P.S: I have seen some examples using reshape. Will you recommend to use it instead of reshape2 (which seems not to include the functionalities of two functions).

  For the login page of my website I would like to list the latest news for my site and also display a few fields to let the user log in. So I figured I should make a login view model - I call this LoginVM. LoginVM contains a Login model for the login fields and a List<NewsItem> for the news listing. In the code I'm checking whether ModelState is valid and this would work fine if the view model was actually the Login model, but now it's LoginVM which has no validation attributes at all. How do I make LoginVM "traverse" through its members to validate them all? Am I doing something fundamentally wrong using ModelState in this manner?

• drupal form textfield #default_value not working

  I am working on a custom module with multi-page form on drupal 6. I found that #default_value is not working when my '#type' = 'textfield'. However, when '#type'='textarea', it displays correctly with the '#default_value' specified. Basically, I wrote a FormFactory to return different form definition ($form) based on the post parameter received. Initially, it returns the display of directories list, user then selects from radio buttos until a specific directory contains a xml file, it will become edit form. The edit form will have text fields display the data (#default_value) inside the xml file, however the type 'textarea' works here rather than 'textfield'. How can I make my '#default_value' work in this case? Below is the non-working field definition: $form['pageset']['newsTitle'] = array( '#type' => 'textfield', '#title' => 'News Title', '#default_value' => "{$element->newsTitle}", '#rows' => 1, '#required' => TRUE, ); Then I changed it to textarea as shown below to make it work: $form['pageset']['newsTitle'] = array( '#type' => 'textarea', '#title' => 'News Title', '#default_value' => "{$element->newsTitle}", '#rows' => 1, '#required' => TRUE, );

• Time delay an external RSS feed

  I subscribe to a number of RSS feeds, mostly from within my own timezone (UK: currently GMT+1, a.k.a BST). However I'm also interested in news from New Zealand (currently GMT+12). My problem is caused by my addiction to needing to keep my unread count at, or near, zero. When I load up my RSS reader in the mornings it has gathered all the NZ news at once (normally around 100 items) and I feel compelled either to read them all or to mark them all as read to feed my need for zero-unread-count. I figured a good solution to this would be to time delay the RSS feed somehow, so I would be drip-fed the stories at their time +12 hours, so I could read them through the day as they come in. So my question (or, rather, questions): Does such a thing exist currently & what is it? (no point reworking the wheel) If not: What would be the best way to approach doing this myself? I have access to a Linux web server on which I can run scripts, create databases, store files etc, so there should be a way... I'm most conversant in perl and have done a little fiddling with XML within that, so would naturally process ... or is there some simpler way to do it that I'm missing?

• Problem with my Jquery loading in my Codeigniter views

  Hello, I am working on a one page website that allows the users to add and remove pages from there navigation as and when they would like too, the way it works is that if the click 'Blog' on the main nav a 'Blog' section should appear on the page, if they then click 'News' the 'News' section should also be visible, however the way I have started to implement this it seems I can only have one section at a time, can my code be adpated to allow multiple sections to shown on the main page. • How to have current page selection using inludes navigation

  I am using php includes to limit redundancy on my pages, how can I have my navigation have the current page selected with say a certain color for the HOME button when my navigation is called from a header.php file. If i were to say to add a "active" class to the home.php item and add a style so it looked different, that would happen across the board for all my pages, which is why I am using includes in the first place, how can I have one header.php file with my navigation, that also allows each page the ability to show the current page you are on reflected in the navigation?   I would like to write an enumerator that would go through a paragraph of text and gives me one sentence at a time. I tried using stringEnumerate with the NSStringEnumerationBySentences but that simply looks at the periods and fails. For example, lets say I have the following text Block: "Senator John A. Boehner decided not to move forward. He also decided not to call the congress. The news reporter said though...." I would like my function to break down the above paragraph in the following sentences: Senator John A. Boehner decided not to move forward He also decided not to call the congress (No third sentence because it's a half a sentence) The String Enumerator with the sentence optionjust looks at the periods and breaks down that way which is wrong: Senator John A. Boehner decided not to move forward He also decided not to call the congress The news reporter said though.... Is there any library or function that I can call that does a better job at this?   There's a category of logic problem on the LSAT that goes like this: Seven consecutive time slots for a broadcast, numbered in chronological order I through 7, will be filled by six song tapes-G, H, L, O, P, S-and exactly one news tape. Each tape is to be assigned to a different time slot, and no tape is longer than any other tape. The broadcast is subject to the following restrictions: L must be played immediately before O. The news tape must be played at some time after L. There must be exactly two time slots between G and P, regardless of whether G comes before P or whether G comes after P. I'm interested in generating a list of permutations that satisfy the conditions as a way of studying for the test and as a programming challenge. However, I'm not sure what class of permutation problem this is. I've generalized the type problem as follows: Given an n-length array A: How many ways can a set of n unique items be arranged within A? Eg. How many ways are there to rearrange ABCDEFG? If the length of the set of unique items is less than the length of A, how many ways can the set be arranged within A if items in the set may occur more than once? Eg. ABCDEF = AABCDEF; ABBCDEF, etc. How many ways can a set of unique items be arranged within A if the items of the set are subject to "blocking conditions"? My thought is to encode the restrictions and then use something like Python's itertools to generate the permutations. Thoughts and suggestions are welcome.

• How to output multicolumn html without "widows"?

  I need to output to HTML a list of categorized links in exactly three columns of text. They must be displayed similar to columns in a newspaper or magazine. So, for example, if there are 20 lines total the first and second columns would contain 7 lines and the last column would contain 6. The list must be dynamic; it will be regularly changed. The tricky part is that the links are categorized with a title and this title cannot be a "widow". If you have a page layout background you'll know that this means the titles cannot be displayed at the bottom of the column -- they must have at least one link underneath them, otherwise they should bump to the next column (I know, technically it should be two lines if I were actually doing page layout, but in this case one is acceptable). I'm having a difficult time figuring out how to get this done. Here's an example of what I mean: Shopping Link 3 Link1 Link 1 Link 4 Link2 Link 2 Link 3 Link 3 Cars Link 1 Music Games Link 2 Link 1 Link 1 Link 2 News As you can see, the "News" title is at the bottom of the middle column, and so is a "widow". This is unacceptable. I could bump it to the next column, but that would create an unnecessarily large amount of white space at the bottom of the second column. What needs to happen instead is that the entire list needs to be re-balanced. I'm wondering if anyone has any tips for how to accomplish this, or perhaps source code or a plug in. Python is preferable, but any language is fine. I'm just trying to get the general concept down.

• Where to store site settings: DB? XML? CONFIG? CLASS FILES?

  I am re-building a news portal of which already have a large number of visits every day. One of the major concerns when re-building this site was to maximize performance and speed. Having said this, we have done many things from caching, to all sort of other measures to ensure speed. Now towards the end of the project, I am having a dilemma of where to store my site settings that would least affect performance. The site settings will include things such as: Domain, DefaultImgPath, Google Analytics code, default emails of editors as well as more dynamic design/display feature settings such as the background color of specific DIVs and default color for links etc.. As far as I know, I have 4 choices in storing all these info. Database: Storing general settings in the DB and caching them may be a solution however, I want to limit the access to the database for only necessary and essential functions of the project which generally are insert/update/delete news items, author articles etc.. XML: I can store these settings in an XML file but I have not done this sort of thing before so I don't know what kind of problems -if any- I might face in the future. CONFIG: I can also store these settings in web.config CLASS FILE: I can hard code all these settings in a SiteSettings class, but since the site admin himself will be able to edit these settings, It may not be the best solution. Currently, I am more close to choosing web.config but letting people fiddle with it too often is something I do not want. E.g. if somehow, I miss out a validation for something and it breaks the web.config, the whole site will go down. My concern basically is that, I cannot forsee any possible consequences of using any of the methods above (or is there any other?), I was hoping to get this question over to more experienced people out here who hopefully help make my decision.

• Resize iframe to show first element works except in IE 7

  I have two iframes on my home page, the script below is in the head of the page that is being displayed in the iframe, there are several divisions on the page in a container div with an id of 'content', I want to size the iframe on the home page so that just the first div is initially seen and to scroll to see the rest. It is working in all browsers that I have tried except IE 7, I don't care too much about earlier browsers. • Redirect requests only if the file is not found?

  I'm hoping there is a way to do this with mod_rewrite and Apache, but maybe there is another way to consider too. On my site, I have directories set up for re-skinned versions of the site for clients. If the web root is /home/blah/www, a client directory would be /home/blah/www/clients/abc. When you access the client directory via a web browser, I want it to use any requested files in the client directory if they exist. Otherwise, I want it to use the file in the web root. For example, let's say the client does not need their own index.html. Therefore, some code would determine that there is no index.html in /home/blah/www/clients/abc and will instead use the one in /home/blah/www. Keep in mind that I don't want to redirect the client to the web root at any time, I just want to use the web root's file with that name if the client directory has not specified its own copy. The web browser should still point to /clients/abc whether the file exists there or in the root. Likewise, if there is a request for news.html in the client directory and it DOES exist there, then just serve that file instead of the web root's news.html. The user's experience should be seamless. I need this to work for requests on any filename. If I need to, for example, add a new line to .htaccess for every file I might want to redirect, it rather defeats the purpose as there is too much maintenance needed, and a good chance for errors given the large number of files. In your examples, please indicate whether your code goes in the .htaccess file in the client directory, or the web root. Web root is preferred. Thanks for any suggestions! :)

  I have heaps of free text news docs in one big file. The structure of each news doc is like: (Header line) Category, Doc1, Date (day, month, year) (body text) ... ... ... (Header line) Category, Doc2, Date (day, month, year) (body text) ... ... ... If I extract each doc from the big file, it costs too much time and not efficient. Therefore, I decide to read the file line by line and feed information to lucene the same time. I write c# code to index each doc to lucene like: Streamreader sr = new Streamreader(file); string line = ""; while((line = sr.ReadLine()) != null) { How can I tell this line is a doc header line from text line and get the metadata and all the text lines of a doc for lucene to index. Also, the text is read by OCR which can not give correct line-separating. Captions are mixed with content text iterate the process till the end of the file } with thanks

What I want to do is that when I click link with id "news_link" I want jQuery to fetch data from database and put it to jQm's collapsible set. In my solution, I've wanted to use $.mobile.changePage inside callback functions because I want to wait until the data has been fetched and put inside the container before the code changes page. • How do I choose what and when to cache data with ob_start rather than query the database?

  I have a home page that has several independent dynamic parts. The parts consist of a list of recent news from the company, a site statistics panel, and the online status of certain employees. The recent news changes monthly, site statistics change daily, and online statuses change on a per minute bases. I would like to cache these panels so that the db is not hit on every page load. Is using ob_start() then ob_get_contents() to cache these parts to a file the correct way to do this or is there a better method in PHP5 for doing this? In asking this question I'm trying to answer these additional questions: How can I determine the correct approach for caching this data without doing extensive benchmarking? Does it make sense to cache these parts in different files and then join them together per requests or should I re-query the data and cache once per minute? I'm looking for a rule of thumb for planning pages and for situations where doing testing is not cost effective (The client is not paying enough for it I mean). Thanks!

• Trouble installing R-2.15.2 on Fedora 14

  I need to install R-2.15.2, the latest version. I tried using blah> sudo yum install R to install R, but for whatever reason (maybe because it's an old version of Fedora?) my system thinks R version 13 is the most recent. So, I downloaded the .tar.gz file from R's site and used the following: blah> tar -xvf R-2.15.2.tar.gz This successfully unzipped the file. I then ran: blah> ./configure blah/R-2.15.2> ls ChangeLog COPYING Makeconf.in ONEWS src VERSION-NICK config.log doc Makefile.fw OONEWS SVN-REVISION config.site etc Makefile.in po tests configure INSTALL NEWS README tools configure.ac m4 NEWS.pdf share VERSION As you can see, makefiles are present. However, when I run "make" within the R folder, I get the following error: blah/R-2.15.2> make make: No targets specified and no makefile found. Stop. Is there any way I can fix this issue? I am unsure as to how I would see the error that I assume mysql is giving somewhere, and I've tried everything I could think of. Using double quotes and adding the variables into the statement right away. Adding single quotes to shares and score. How am I supposed to be doing this?

• Content Box is a Little Off in IE9 ... How to Fix?

  Hi there! I have a website at www.thetotempole.ca and when viewed in IE9... My websites content box (The green wooden backgrounded box with content inside) is moved slightly over to the left making a space between the actual container and the content box... Is there anyway I can fix this without harming any of the other browsers? Thanks!
