• number of days in a period that fall within another period

  I have 2 independent but contiguous date ranges. The first range is the start and end date for a project. Lets say start = 3/21/10 and end = 5/16/10. The second range is a month boundary (say 3/1/10 to 3/31/10, 4/1/10 to 4/30/10, etc.) I need to figure out how many days in each month fall into the first range. The answer to my example above is March = 10, April = 30, May = 16. I am trying to figure out an excel formula or VBA function that will give me this value. Any thoughts on an algorithm for this? I feel it should be rather easy but I can't seem to figure it out. I have a formula which will return TRUE/FALSE if ANY part of the month range is within the project start/end but not the number of days. That function is below. return month_start <= project_end And month_end >= project_start

• help finding a hosing company with unixODBC and FreeTDS support

  I need to find a hosting company that provides a LAMP stack, the P being PHP. Finding that is pretty easy, but I have a further requirement of unixODBC and FreeTDS or some equilant. The project will require a remote connection to a Microsoft SQL 2005 database. Most of the project will use a local MySQL database but it also requires data from a remote MS SQL 2005 database. In my reading it looks like I'll need unixODBC and FreeTDS installed on the server to make that connection. So far I've been unable to find a shared host that provides these. Can anyone suggest or use a host that might work? The project has budget limits so we we're hoping to find a shared host.

  Struggling with the following SQL problem Assume a three dimensional table with entries (h,t,q) 1,A,20 1,A,10 1,B,5 2,A,10 2,B,3 2,B,8 3,C,50 4,A,10 etc. I would like to extract 1,30 2,11 3,50 etc. group by first element and then return the maximum q value of same type, i.e. for header number 2 there are 10 As and 11 Bs, so return 11 The "max" element (A in case 1, B in case 2 and C in case 3) is irrelevant, I just need to get out the header and that maximum value. This shouldnt be too tricky, but cant get it to work. Using MS Access, but can use SQL within.

  Some time ago I posted about a question about reading Excel files as a server process, to get around the tighter restrictions Microsoft have been applying on Office Automation. I now need to extend this, by finding methods/libraries to read other sorts of Office files in an automated way on a server. The applications I'm interested in are Word, Powerpoint, Project and to a lesser extent Word and Visio. I need to be able to support 97-2003 office files, and the newer open xml formats (e.g. xlsx, docx) at a very least. With regards to Word integration, I also need to be able to handle writing/reading RTF text. If anyone has any suggestions I'd be pleased to hear them. Thanks

  Hi all, I've a flat file that I cleaned the data out using SSIS, the output looks like that : MEDICAL ADMIT PATIENT PATIENT DATE OF DX REC NO DATE NUMBER NAME DISCHARGE Code DRG # 123613 02/16/09 12413209 MORIBALDI ,GEMMA 02/19/09 428.20 988 130897 01/23/09 12407193 TINLEY ,PATRICIA 01/23/09 535.10 392 139367 02/27/09 36262509 THARPE ,GLORIA 03/05/09 562.10 392 141954 02/25/09 72779499 SHUMATE ,VALERIA 02/25/09 112.84 370 141954 03/07/09 36271732 SHUMATE ,VALERIA 03/10/09 493.92 203 145299 01/21/09 12406294 BAUGH ,MARIA 01/21/09 366.17 117 and the report (final results) attached in the screen shot from the final excel report. so what's happening is IF the same name or same account number is duplicate, that means the patient has entered the hospital again and needs to be included in the report. ![alt text][1] what I need to do is... Eliminate any rows that is NOT duplicate (not everybody in this file has been admitted again) and compare the dates to get the ReAdmitdate and ReDischargedate I dumped the data into a SQL table and trying to compare the dates to figure out "ReAdmitdate" and "ReDischargedate" any help is appreciated. I need a T-SQL query that can pull rows from that table where GETDATE matches the day of week and time of those rows. Specifically, I need the query to work if a row has a day/time that starts on one day of the week and ends on the next day. I want to run a loop such that each of these conditions is checked against all the tables in the second database and generae a report which gives the errors. Is this possible in ms access.   I am attempting to move data from a recordset directly into an array. I know this is possible, but specifically I want to do this in VBA as this is being done in MS Access 2003. ' Populate the array with the whole recordset. vaData = rst.GetRows What differences exist between VB and VBA which makes this type of operation not work? What about performance concerns? • at what point in the test cycle are the test results written to a file?

  I'd like to take the entirety of the test results and publish it to a database. Got the database, got the table, got the script to publish it. Question is, at what point in the ms-test cycle would the results be fully written to the file? And how can I get the path to that file? I'd especially like to grab the "TextMessages" node and put it into my database. I assumed AssemblyCleanup, but the TestContext doesn't seem to be available then.

• Trying to use VB to automate some queries. Running into what looks like a string problem

  Hi there I'm using MS Access 2003 and I'm trying to execute a few queries at once using VB. When I write out the query in SQL it works fine, but when I try to do it in VB it asks me to "Enter Parameter Value" for DEPA, then DND (which are the first few letters of a two strings I have). • VBA Tab Key putting actual Tab Value in Text Box instead of navigating to next control

  I have a VBA form (in Excel if that matters) that contains text boxes. On three occasions, I have found myself pressing the tab key to navigate to the next control, but instead an actual TAB is being put in the text box. The form normally acts as it should, but it does concern me that this gremlin is showing up sporadically. It has shown up on Office 2003 as well as Office 2007 on two different computers. Has anyone else encountered this problem and, if so, how did you fix it?

  I wrote code that generate Excel file using REST JAX-RS and I confirmed that the generated Excel file is in GlassFish server directory. But my goal is when user click on the button (which generate Excel .xls), I want download popup to show up asking user whether to save or open the .xls file just like any other web services doing for downloading any type of files. According to my search, the step is: generate Excel .xls (DONE) write the excel to stream in JAX-RS file, set response header to something like, String fileName = "Blah_Report.xls"; response.setHeader("Content-Disposition", "attachment; filename=" + fileName); My question is I'm doing all of this in JAX-RS file and I don't have HttpServletResponse object available. According to the answer from Add Response Header to JAX-RS Webservice He says: You can inject a reference to the actual HttpServletResponse via the @Context annotation in your webservice and use addHeader() etc. to add your header. I can't really figure what exactly that means without sample code..

• Turning A Stacked List into workable data

  In Excel I have a list of names that in the cell appear stacked, and I want each name in its own column. I was thinking Python may be a good way to do this? Example: Joe Smith John Hawk Mike Green Lauren Smith One cell will look exactly like that, with each name on its line within the cell but all of the names contained in the cell. I have 50 cells each with 1-20 stacked names and I want to put each name in its own cell on a given row. So, in my example all of those names would occupy the same row but each would have their own column. Any ideas?

  Hi, I'm quite confused with what are the necessary tools for VSTO develpment. Specifically I want to manipulate Excel 2003/2007 documents programmatically. I did quite a lot of VBA before, if you want to relate any answer to that. Few questions I have about VSTO: Can I use Visual Studio 2008 Express Edition C#/C++ for this? Do I need to have .NET framework installed? Does the resulting VSTO program need to have a copy of Office installed in the same system to run? Direct links to the relevant tools/plugins/IDE will be appreciated. Note: I'm totally new to VSTO and .NET but an Office power user. Have experience with COM programming. Thanks.

• Export view data programmatically in Access/SQL Server

  We have an Access application front-end connected to a SQL Server 2000 database. We would like to be able to programmatically export the results of some views to whatever format we can (ideally Excel, but CSV / tab delimited is fine). Up until now we've just hit F11, opened up the view, and hit File-Save As, but we're starting to get results with more than 16,000 results, which can't be exported. I'd like some sort of server side stored procedure we can trigger that will do this. I'm aware of the sp_makewebtask procedure that does this, however it requires administrative rights on the server, and for obvious reasons we can't give that to everyone. Any ideas?

• How to import data from a Lotus private view into Access?

  I'm experimenting with Lotus private views for the first time and I finally made a private view that (more or less) has the data I want. I just need to get it into MS Access. If this was a standard shared view, I'd just fire up the ODBC administrator, and make a DSN to the database using the NotesSQL driver. Been there, done that. But you can't get to private views that way. So, how do I import the data from my private view into Access? (Also, I'm not one of the IT gurus in our company, so I can't just make a view and share it, even if it's hidden)

  Hi All While I am running on MS Access myapplication.mdb, I am always getting this error "Microsoft Office Access Has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience, send error to report , don't send...". I tried to create a new application.mdb then to import the database, the form and the modules but I couldn't because I'm getting the same error while I'm importing most of the modules. P.S.: I'm trying to import the modules one by one but for the majority of the modules I encounter this error. I tried to open an old version of myapplication.mdb then to import the updated modules but just when I selected the damaged application to import the updated module I got this famous error directly... Any help will be highly appreciated...

Can you recommend which one should be the best for these requirements?
