    Hi, A portion of my laptop screen broke. Is there any kind of software that will just ignore that part and resize everything accordingly? It's like 1/6 of the screen on the right that makes anything over there impossible to see. If not, what would be the best programming language to go about making my own program? It is a PC but I can also run Ubuntu if that would be easier to make a program for.

    This is a crucial question to many: Searching the web, I have found several command line tools that allow you to convert a HTML-document to a PDF-document, however they all seem to use their own, and rather incomplete rendering engine, resulting in poor quality How can you print the rendered output of a modern web-browser to pdf, (and/or svg) whilst retaining as much vector graphics as possible? There is a solution called: webkit-pdf (which renders everything to bitmap graphics) I am looking for options, alternatives, suggestions perhaps even a printer-driver or webservices? Thanks

  • Is there a program that can colourize the output of any linux command?

    Or would I have to write my own? What's the best language for building a tool of this kind? I'm kind of new to linux, but I'm guessing that you could pass the output of a program to a particular script and have it display it in various colours, based on some regular expressions (constructed from some kind of config file perhaps). Or has it been done already...?

    Hi there, We run a cluster of openvz servers and are looking for a way to automatically graph the content of user_beancounters for all ves. We currently have a fairly rudimentary cron which alerts us when limits are hit but we could like a graphing solution to show us history. Obviously we could roll our own using some fancy bash/php/perl and rrdtool but we're wondering if there are any existing solutions before we go down this path. We current run a cacti/snmp based graphing infrastructure.

    I want to be able to find and replace eat with Eat in Microsoft Word 2007. However, I don’t want to replace every occurrence of eat such as those that can be found inside other words such as great and meat. I have tried doing this using the regular Find and Replace tool, but I get words with capital letters in the middle. Is there a way I can just replace eat with Eat if it only exists on its own?

    I have a Spanish keyboard on my notebook, but I use it mostly for English and Chinese writing. This is how I configured the languages: However, Windows added some layouts on its own (probably when connecting via Remote Desktop to computers with different languages/layouts): Those layouts are all part of the AltShift cycle, which is extremely annoying. How can I remove ENG/US and ESP, considering they don't show in the configuration list? Is there a way to prevent them from being added again?

    In Vista and before, new programs attempting an ingoing or outgoing connection would cause a Windows prompt whether to allow or deny the program as a rule. In Windows 7 I seem to have to manually enter rules. Is there any way to get Windows 7 to ask me on its own? Edit : The options MrStatic points to in his answer are already turned on.     In order to watch Hulu and other sites which are not available in my region (Canada). I would like to set up my own proxy server in the USA on a Linode for my Macbook running Mac OS X. On my Macbook, I would like to set up the proxy server in the OS, instead of the browser so all apps use it. I believe Mac OS X supports HTTP and SOCKS proxies. What type of proxy should I use, and what server software should I use on the Linux machine?

    Does anyone know how to change the layout (either option or extension) for Thunderbird 3 to make it look like the default layout in Outlook? Basically, in Vertical View, I can get my Folders on the left, next to a 2 line listing of each message (Sender and Time line 1, Subject on line 2), and Message Pane on right? If not, I'll also take as Notes links to guides on how to make my own extension.

  • Scheduled Tasks - how do I handle a user log off?

    I set a new scheduled task to start "when my computer starts". I assigned an Administrator user to run the task. This is an executable that is supposed to run indefinitely in the background. The problem is, that if the Administrator logs in and then logs off, the task stops running. Is there a solution for this? UPDATE: this was caused because the task running was in java. See my own solution.

    As part of my web hosting plan i've also got a few domain hosted for family and friends. I have my own FTP account with full access and I would like to give FTP to a web designer and a user. Is there a way for restricing uploads larger than a certian size, or setting a size limit on the folder that the FTP access has access to? I'd rather not let them upload files ridiciously big.   • When are DNS "glue" (or "host") records needed?

    I kind of know why glue records are needed (cyclic dependencies), but when are they needed? Are they only needed when setting a domain's nameservers to my own machine on the internet - like "ns1.mydomainonmyserver.com" ??   • SharePoint MySite - Purge newsfeed activity?

    After setting up User Profile sync with AD I've noticed that the newsfeed section of each user's MySite is now flooded with lots of random notes detailing changes that have been pulled in about their (and their contacts') profiles. Is there anyway to purge this activity and stop updates from the sync service getting listed on the newsfeed? Our users are likely to find it strange getting updates about changes to their own profiles that they didn't make themselves.

  • OS X multiple use of same machine via VNC

    I'm wondering if I can connect to my wife's mac via VNC while she is logged in herself. I wouldn't be surprised if this isn't possible, although the machinery should be there with "fast-user-switching" support. So, if I create a profile for myself and I log in (and enable the VNC server/sharing for my profile), and then my wife switches to her own account which she uses on the physical console. Will I be able to use the mac ?

  • Stop playback of my voice when using mic during a call with twinkle voip

    Hi When I'm making voip calls with twinkle I can hear myself via the speakers. It's not like an echo you might get in empty room for example. While this is useful if you're trying to check if your mic is working, it's annoying when you're trying to have a conversion. Constantly trying to filter out your own voice. I'm using twinkle as my client. Is it my client or is it a setting on my ATA/ mic configuration?
