• How to disable 3G USB Modem internal storage from being loaded by linux kernel?

  Hi, I've got a problem with my 3G modem [Huawei E122]. It has internal storage and kernel assigns a device [/dev/sdX] to it. Because of that, every second time my machine will not boot - kernel panic - as my usb hdd gets assigned /dev/sdb instead of /dev/sda. I cannot use LABEL nor UUID in root= kernel parameter, as it is only available when using initrd, and I can't use it - I am using Debian on my router - mips architecture machine. I have to prevent this from happening, as my router has to start everyday and I have to be sure it works ok. I don't have physical access to restart it when something goes wrong. I don't use my modem internal storage, there's no SD card inserted. However kernel detects the reader and loads it. I can not prevent loading od usb drivers since my hdd is on USB as well. I will appreciate any ideas.

• asterisk incoming/miss call notification (to skype)

  My environment: Centos 5.6, Asterisk with freepbx , skype i.e.sends message with parameter skype.sh skype_user message. Now i wanted to send skype notification so that my asterisk server notification are sent to skype rather than email (or to both skype and email). I know, there is voicemail.conf, voicemail_general and vm_email.inc, which has these body created. vm_email.inc emailbody=${VM_NAME},\n\nThere is a new voicemail in mailbox ${VM_MAILBOX} But i dont see where is something like "mail" command. What my thought to do is: instead of saying "mailcmd" pass system ( /path/to/script) and it would simply send message as rest is already configured. Any suggestion where i could run script rather than sending email Or Executing script on every incoming call, so that i could send as notification on every call over the Skype. (however, ultimate goal is to achieve miss call notification or voice mail notification over Skype.)

  I have questions related to the host name in Ubuntu EC2 instances. I have a IPS elastics for hosts that want to be seen from the internet and I have pointed out in the DNS entries with the computer name to those ips. For example, for elastic IP 11.11.11.11 DNS I added my computer name www.example.com. But I also want to rename the machines which they have, because it is a parameter of the service running on them (ejabberd server). EC2 instances are restarted when changing the host name, and seen on the client requesting dhcp hostname to dhcp Amazon. My question is ... What is the safest method to change the hostname: dhcp client modify, insert the command in rc.local, etc. ..? Could I have a problem with the internal resolution of traffic between EC2 instances? thanks

• High shmmax value in Redhat 6.3

  We are using Redhat 6.3 with 30G RAM to host our Postgres server. The (default) shmmax value is 68,719,476,736 In some forums I have read that having an shmmax value larger than the RAM causes extensive paging, but in the Redhat forums it warns against changing a kernel parameter that is already configured to a value larger than the minimum requirements for an environment. In ServerFault I've read that this probably has no impact. So is there any impact of having shmmax value RAM in a DB server, or the kernel understands this and handles it appropriately? Thanks

• nginx static file buffer

  I have a nfs which several frontend-servers are connected to for making the files stored on the nfs available for http downloads. It looks like I have problems with the way apache is serving the files, there seems to be a very small buffer or no buffer at all which results in a lot disk seeks. I did some testing with loading the whole requested file into memory at once and serve it to the client from memory. With this technique I need less disk seeks for a download stream. Since I don't want to implement this by myself for production use I thought that I could maybe use nginx for that because the documentation says that it uses buffers for static file serving. Is it possible to increase the buffer size to a few mb, if so which config parameter do I have to change for this? Has anyone experience with large buffers for static file serving? Is there a better way to reduce disk seeks?

• MS Access Query Criteria Issue

  Currently I have a MS Access database query that has a field named FedEXDetTotal that totals 9 FedEX charge fields. I have another field that is from our inhouse system called "Total Charge". This is just a normal number field. I have created another Field in this query Diff: [FedEXDetTotal]-[Total Charge] This tells me the difference between the Fedex charge and what we actually charged. Everything works OK with this, but when I try to put the criteria 5 for the Diff field, when I run the query, I get a prompt saying "Enter Parameter Value FedEXDetTotal". Why is Access doing this? How do I get around this? I'm trying to start out with something simple(5), but what I really want is [Forms]![Dis].[txtbox_Diff].

• Easily manage vsftpd virtual users?

  I have a vsftpd server configured with many virtual users. logins are stored in a Berkeley DB file One configuration file exists for each user to define his permissions (read-only or read-write, home directory, etc.). To do that, I use the user_config_dir parameter (set in vsftpd.conf). I am wondering if it would be possible to manage these virtual users from a simple GUI (such as web interface). I have found some tools but they are limited to generic vsftpd configuration, not virtual users management. Otherwise, PAM-MySQL seems to be a good way to manage users efficiently but only username/password and logs can be stored in database, not permissions. Finally, I've found this thread, but the solution is a bit awkward... Is there any way to easily manage the vsftpd users ?

Since sftp-server is running as a regular user, it has no way to "give away" a file (change owner of a file). However, if you are able to use scp, and assign a key pair to each user, you can get around this. This involves adding a user's key to root's ~/.ssh/authorized_keys file, with a "command=" parameter to force it to run a script that sanitizes and alters the arguments of the server-side scp program. I've used this technique before to set up an anonymous scp dropbox that allowed anyone to submit a file, and ensure that no one could retrieve submitted files and also prevent overwrites. • Automating the input of query criteria

  New user to this site and found an extremely informative answer to a question I had but can't find an answer to this one. Using Access 2010, I have 42 different criteria that I need to run individually using the same query. Rather than have 42 queries, or an input parameter dialogue box where I need to enter the criteria 42 times, can I automate this so that the 42 criteria are sourced sequentially from a different table and input to the query using a macro/ module etc. Unfortunately I have no experience of SQL/VBA so am struggling. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

• postgresql 9.1 Multiple Cluster on same host

  I have 2 cluster databases, running on the same host, Ubuntu. My fist database port is set to default but my second database port is set to 5433 in the postgresql.conf file. While everything is ok with local connections, I cannot connect using any of my tools to the second database with port 5433, including pgAdmin. Please help. • Where and How should a Kernel Panic be reported?

  I've Archlinux installed on my laptop Fujitsu Amilo Pi 2*** and I cannot find any log at /var/log that has the StackTrace. The Kernel panics ALWAYS when I try to modify screen brightness. Where are those Logs or StackTraces? Do I have to install any package to catch that StackTrace? Where should I send that Log/StackTrace? • Modifying Windows Shortcut .lnk file

  here as it's locked over there; I hope it belongs in this forum; Is it possible to open .lnk (windows shortcut) in a hex editor, and change the absolut shortcut path into a relative one? Can we do this is windows? The edit command in cmd can open link files but it's difficult to read and edit. Is there any hex editor in windows that can open lnk file and allow me to edit it? Do I need to take it to linux or does Linux recognize .lnk as a shortcut too? I want to do this not only for running exe files, but also for pointing to folders (that is, shortcut to folders). A batch file which executes explorer.exe with the target folder as parameter can do this actually, but I want to know if there is any way to actually edit the data in the .lnk file itself

• App pool gets stuck on reset and takes .net pages out

  Several times after our app pool has been told to reset, it gets stuck, the .net pages go down and the following error appears in the application event log: Failed to execute request because the App-Domain could not be created. Error: 0x80070057 The parameter is incorrect. Our app pool is scheduled to automatically reset at 4am, so the errors stay up until we manually restart the app pool. Has anyone else encountered the error or know of any solutions? Research has suggested it's a permissions issue, but the permissions don't change and the error happens infrequently. The site has no other permission based problems and the app pool identity has permission where needed.

• Do I use the FV function in Excel correctly?

  My task: Create a table: Calculate what the revenues of e-trading will be after five years at 15 percent interest rate if we now have 15 000 EUR. Use the FV function from the Financial Group in Excel. My resolution: =FV( 15%; 5; 0; -15000). My question: Is it correct? I know the task lacks information whether the interest rate is per month or per year. I calculate it as 'per year'. My question is orientated more on the usage of the FV function. I, for example, do not understand why '-15000' and not '15000'. Also why the third parameter has to be 0? Maybe I do it wrong. Please help me solve it! Thanks in advance.

• Frequent occurence of FULL GC.

  Hi, There is a frequent occurence of FULL GC in our system. We are using Java application running on Tomcat server. Our application is running using internal load balancer setup. We are seeing lot of Full GC's in the server logs due to which the application is hung and Proxy errors are occured. But of no use. I suspect that there could be some other reason other than these parameters which is causing the issue. Can anyone please help me on this?

• Remote App - linked exe

  I'm experiencing below problem: I'm trying to run Microsoft NAV as remote app. There are two exe file involved: finsql.exe - main executable and finhlink.exe. Later one is used to directly run a 'window' within NAV (it takes certain link as parameter). This functionality is not present in finsql.exe. After configuring and running finhlink.exe as remote app I get an error "...finsql.exe can't be executed...". I believe it's because finhlink.exe is in fact invoking finsql.exe. Is there a way of allowing invocation of linked executable via remote app?

• Some $_SERVER parameters missing when accessing PHP script via Cron

  I have a script that I need to run with PHP via cron. The original author of the script made a lot of user of certain $_SERVER parameters (like REQUEST_URI). But it appears that certain variables don't exist when running PHP via command line or via CRON. For example, there is no request uri, so it makes sense that the REQUEST_URI parameter wouldn't be available. Is there any way around this other than to completely rewrite the script in order to avoid using special $_SERVER parameters that aren't universally available?

• How do you create a SQL query in Excel 2007 with a dynamic date range?

  I am trying to create a reporting spreadsheet that can print reports for a given time period. The query below works, but when I try to use a "?" parameter in place of the date, I get an error after selecting a cell containing my date. If I use single quotes ('?') I get a conversion from string to date/time failure, if I don't (?) I get a syntax error near @p1. Eventually I will need either a start and end date or a formula adding a month or shift to the starting date/time to filter the data down to important information. The query was built in Microsoft Query. • nslookup returning different results

  I'm having a problem with my machine. A site that I used to be able to access is no longer being found. After running nslookup, I notice that about 9 times out of 10 it returns a specific IP which times out if I ping it, but about 1 in 10 times it returns a different IP which works when I ping it. I've even tried adding an option parameter into nslookup to hit different DNS servers (such as Google's public DNS) and am getting the same result. Any idea what would cause the IP returned by DNS lookup to change back and forth like that?

  I know that I can dump the entire information from a PEM certificate file with this command: openssl x509 -in certfile -noout -text And I've already found another direct parameter to show me only the expiry date of a certificate: openssl x509 -in certfile -noout -enddate But is there also a shortcut to get only the alternative names? Like when a certificate can be used for example.com as well as www.example.com. EX. 300 users(0% error), 400 users(7% error in a sample, 5% error in another sample), 500 users(more than 10% error in 4 out of 6 samples). At What value of % Error, I can say system reached the Breaking point.I used concurrent users 300, 400, 500 in a PHP website. Should I consider any other parameter to determine breaking point. How many maximum concurrent users my application can support?
