• How to get warnings when compiling fx files

  When I compile DirectX shaders (.fx files), I dont see any compiler warnings unless there was an error in the effect. This happens both when using the offline FXC compiler, as well as calling SlimDx's CompileEffect (which is what we normally do). I could force warnings as errors (/WX), but if you enable that, you get an error that compilation failed, without the warning that caused the problem. So how can I output warnings for shaders that compile properly?

  I download the iso from Ubuntu.com and burned into a CD-R with the program in the page. The disc work right in my desktop but when i run it in my laptop appears another menu with the options prove ubuntu, install ubuntu, check the memory, check for errors, and run windows.When i try the option install appears in the screen "Ubuntu" in the center and littles points down (loading) and after 5 minutes the computer freeze. What can i do?

• What could be the reason for my resolution to be right running 11.10 on VirtualBox and not on machine?

  When I install Ubuntu 11.10 on my VirtualBox (running on Windows 7) and update the packages, it recognizes the display as the VirtualBox display, and gives me the options of various resolutions, one of them being right for my display, all works well. But then, when i install it on my machine (like was Windows 7) it doesn't give me the resolution options, even with the system updated and the openchrome graphics driver installed (which was also when running on Virtualbox). What could be the reason for this happening? (Could the VB guest software influence on this?)

• Power button missing

  An almost clean install of Ubuntu 13.10 keeps hiding the power button. I noticed before that my clock and power button were missing in the right top corner. I rebooted my system and they were back. Now I see my power button only is missing. How do I go about fixing this? I can't keep rebooting, can I? The latest thing I did was removing Ubuntu One: Removing Ubuntu One I don't think I did something that might've tinkered with these settings though.

• Looking for a customizable "Did you know..." dialog application

  I want to deploy a "Did you know..." or "Tip of the day" application at the office. It should: Show a dialog at login time with a random tip. Obviously, provide some way to store my own tips. Be easy to disable and reenable by the user itself. I'm using puppet, so I'm covered with the deployment. The tips don't even need to be gathered from a server, since I can deploy the newest tips file/database with no costs. Sure, I could hack a quick solution by using zenity and bash, but I'd like to know if there's any application out there specifically targeted at this. I don't like the zenity approach very much because it's very limited on the contents that can be displayed. No text alongside screenshots, for example. Zenity is aimed towards displaying simple dialogs.

  I'm trying to add product_type to my Magento Google Base output based on the product's categories, but I seem to be unable to. I have the following code: // Get categories from product to include as product_type $categoryIds = $object->getCategoryIds(); foreach($categoryIds as $categoryId) { $category = Mage::getModel('catalog/category')->load($categoryId); $this->_setAttribute('product_type', $category->getName(), 'text' ); } The issue is that it returns all of the categories, not just the ones the product is in. • Need to modify gnome 3 theme for browser

  I have recently begun using the DarkGreen theme for Gnome 3, however there are some problems on some webpages in FireFox regarding text input fields. This happens in the search field on Google, some fields on Facebook, etc... This theme uses a dark background and light color text for input fields by defaut. I have managed to modify the foreground color of input text succesfully for those fields that were never affected (from near white to gray), but it doesn't help for the "broken" fields. I also want to change the background color for all input fields to white, but I get no luck with that either. In the theme folder there is a gtk folder with a css file. • Building package from binary files - what's wrong with my control file

  I'm busy trying to build a .deb package from the binaries of my application (non open source) and I'm having trouble getting the correct info to display in the Ubuntu Software Centre (when you click on the .deb file). Please see screenshot below of control file and Software Centre View. It seems like the package name and the package description is swapped. I'm expecting the part in bold to read "attix5pro" and not "Cloud backup agent". Can someone show my my mistake or guide me?

I know that I can do it using Window Licker, but looking at the commit log there hasn't been any activity since 2010. I see there are several other frameworks, but which are current and suited for TDD? If you have any experience with swing and TDD, please share those as well.

• Stateless game design

  I'm facing a challenge understanding how to program a web version of a card game that is completely stateless. I create my object graph when the game begins and distribute cards to PlayerA and PlayerB so I lay them out on the screen. At this point I could assume that HTML and the querystring is what holds at least some of my state and just keep a snapshot copy of the game state on the server-side for the sole purpose of validating the inputs I receive from the web clients. Still it appears to me that the state of the game is by its nature mutable: cards are being dealt from the deck, etc... Am I just not getting it? Or should I just strive to minimize the side-effects of my functions to the objects that I take as my input? How would you design a stateless card game?

  I'm using LibGDX v1.1.0 and I see that the label of a TextButton is not properly centered.   For a game web app that runs Python on the server side and Javascript / HTML on the client side I'd like to build an offline version that runs in Chrome and on the mobile devices. What is the most convenient way currently available to target Chrome, Win 8 Desktop (with a Win packaged app) and the mobile devices reusing most of the code? Options could be PhoneGap for the mobile devices and PyJs for the offline browser versions or maybe translate Python to Dart manually (because of the closer semantics of the two languages) and compile to Javascript.

  Normally you can login to sites that require HTTP basic authentication by passing the username and password in the URL, e.g.: http://myusername:[email protected]/mypath On my Linux machine, I could access this website without problems with my Konqueror browser as well as with my Opera browser. But with Firefox it doesn't work? It always displays the "Authentication Required" dialog window? Any ideas why it would work with the other browsers but not with Firefox? Peter

• Winforms ComboBox does not expand when clicked, any ideas?

  Hi everybody, A ComboBox within a Form (modal dialog) does not open when clicked, however an item can be selected by using the up/down arrow keys. After clicking on another window and the back on the dialog, the ComboBox works as expected, i.e. expands on click. Weird... any ideas what could be causing this behavior?
