  • PHP AJAX mysql event calendar - UI for events spanning multiple days

    I have built a PHP calendar system and have pretty much everything done but not sure how to deal with a UI issue involving how the events that stretched out over a couple of days. I want to be able to stretch an event that stretches over couple of days in a div that spans those days in the calendar. Basically I would like to know how to achieve what these guys have achieved with the event that stretches out from 21st to 22nd with the yellow div background. I have been trying to see how I can do it with PHP but I feel like I might be trying the wrong thing. Perhaps this is done with javascript?

    What PHP libraries would you recommend to implement the following: Three dependent drop-down lists Three XML data sources AJAX-based Essentially, I'd like to create an XML database and wire up a form that allows the user to select three different dependent parameters: User clicks Region User clicks District (filtered by Region) User clicks Station (filtered by District) Even though I would like to use PHP and XML, the general problem is: One XHTML form Three dependent, cascading drop-down lists Three flat files (no relational database) for the list data The solution must be efficient, simple, reliable, and cross-browser.   • Use php to zip large files

    Hi, I have a php form that has a bunch of checkboxes that all contain links to files. Once a user clicks on which checkboxes (files) they want, it then zips up the files and forces a download. I got a simple php zip force download to work, but when one of the files is huge or if someone lets say selects the whole list to zip up and download, my server errors out. I understand that I can increase the server size, but are there any other ways? Thanks!

  • ZipArchive php Class - Does it support all servers?

    Ok, just wondering on the versions of PHP that this class is built into. And if they are built into all platforms (OS's). I'm wanting an approach to search through a zip file and place files using file_put_contents in different filepaths within the webroot. In any case, I'm familiar with how to do this with the ZipArchive class, but I'm wondering if using this class would be a good solution and support MOST, if not ALL servers?? I mean, I'd rather not use a method that requires the Server to have it installed. I'm looking for a solution to this that will support at least MOST servers without having to install the class... Thanks :) Also, I'd like to support opening tar.gz and/or .tgz files if possible, but I don't think the ZipArchive class supports this, but perhaps a different built-in php class does??

    Hi guys. I'm working through examples from a book on php/mysql development. I'm working on a linux/apache environment. I've set up a database and a user. I attempt to connect with this line of code: $db_server = mysql_connect($db_hostname, $db_username, $db_password); I get this error: Warning: mysql_connect() [function.mysql-connect]: Access denied for user 'www-data'@'localhost' (using password: YES) in /var/www/hosts/dj/connect.php on line 3 unable to connect to database: Access denied for user 'www-data'@'localhost' (using password: YES) I can only guess what is happening here: I think www-data is a username for apache. Upon the database connection, the credentials being passed in to mysql are not those of my database user, but rather apache's own credentials. Is that what is happening here? How do I pass in the credentials I've defined for my user ?

    Hi, I have a simple standalone application written in Visual Basic that I'm porting to a browser based application using PHP/javascript. The original VB application has some simple embedded flash games with token and point counters. The token and point values are being passed as variables between the application and the game. I'm trying to achieve the same effect in my PHP port without modifying the actionscript code( using the variables in actionscript that already exist).   • PHP replace backslash

    Hi there, Been struggling with replacing a backslash by another symbol such as '.-.' just to indicate the position of backslashes as I could not send a string such as 'C\xampp\etc.' through url as GET variable so I thought I'd first replace the backslashes in that string by another symbol, then send through url, and then replace them back to backslashes in the PHP file that handles it. Though would there be a better way to send such strings through url? Because when I try a script such as: $tmp_name = preg_replace("\", ".-.", $_FILES['uploadfile']['tmp_name']); It turns out into a php error as \ is also used as delimiter.. Could anyone help me out on this? Thanks in advanced! Btw, if I'd be able to send a full array through url, this whole problem would be solved, but I don't think it's possible?

I have multiple subfolders (http://www.site.com/es and http://www.site.com/de) that each have a respective .htaccess file. When accessing these folders, the .htaccess file does this to "silently" redirect the user and add the appropriate php variable: ------- Options +FollowSymlinks RewriteEngine on RewriteOptions MaxRedirects=10 rewriterule ^http://www.site.com/es/$ http://www.site.com/?l=es [P,R=301] rewriterule ^(.*)$ http://www.site.com/$1?l=es [P,R=301] ------- When someone accesses the root directory: http://www.site.com, I want to add a ?l=en suffix "silently" to the url.     I have an application that needs branding when downloaded in certain continents. When installed in North America, for instance, the application, when run, displays a different logo and company name than in Europe. The setup file is provided through a PHP script. Presently there is a Inno Setup executable for Windows and a DMG for Mac OS X. I have seen that when downloading Google Chrome, you can specify whether or not it should send usage statistics. A brief look at the JavaScript that controls it reveals that this is simply sent back to the server with &usagestats=0 or &usagestats=1. How would I go about influencing the installation based upon settings specified via the PHP download page?

    I have the code below: <?php $title = "Result Computation" ; ?> <title> <?php echo $title ; ?> </title> I'm using includes to call the header on all the pages, but what i want to do is that on every page i want to make it generate a specific title. On each page i've added $title = "Page Title" ; So that when the page loads it gets the title from the $title i've set on that page, but it the pages keep getting the default Title.     I'm attempting to utilize the following Regex pattern: $regex = '/Name: [a-zA-Z ]*] [0-9]/'; When testing it in Rubular, it works fine, but when using PHP the expression never returns true, even when it should. Incidentally, if I remove the "[0-9]" part, it works fine. Is there some difference in PHP's regex syntax that I'm overlooking? Edit: I'm looking for the characters "Name:" then a name containing any number of letters or spaces, then a "]", then a space, then a single number. So "Name: Chris] 5" would return true and "Name: Chris] [lorem ipsum]" should return false. I also tried escaping the second bracket "\[" but this did not fix the problem.

    Hi, I am implementing a tag cloud system based on this recommendation. (However, I am not using foreign keys) I am allowing up to 25 tags. My question is, how can I handle editing on the items? I have this item adding/editing page: Title: Description: Tags: (example data) computer, book, web, design If someone edits an item details, do I need to delete all the tags from Item2Tag table first, then add the new elements? For instance, someone changed the data to this: Tags: (example data) computer, book, web, newspaper Do I need to delete all the tags from Item2Tag table, and then add these elements? It seems inefficient, but I could find a more efficient way. The other problem is with this way is, if someone edits description but does not change the tags box, I still need to delete all the elements from Item2Tag table and add the same element. I am not an experienced PHP coder, so could you suggest a better way to handle this? (pure PHP/MySQL solution is preferable) Thanks in advance,

  • Javascript String Length Differs From PHP mb_strlen

    I use document.getElementById("text").value.length to get the string length through javascript, and mb_strlen($_POST['text']) to get the string length by PHP and both differs very much. Carriage returns are converted in javascript before getting the string length, but I guess some characters are not being counted. For example, [b]15. Umieszczanie obrazka z logo na stronie zespolu[/b] This block of text is calculated 57 in javascript and 58 in PHP. When the text gets long, the difference increases. Is there any way to overcome this?

    I have tester.php file which I want to run on the browser and I have created symlink to it in my public_html folder, but still when I try to run it, its not working and gives me following error message. Access forbidden! You don't have permission to access the requested object. It is either read-protected or not readable by the server. If you think this is a server error, please contact the webmaster. Error 403 web.upc03.dev.com Sun Apr 4 22:41:23 2010 Apache I am not sure as to why am I getting this error message, I have check all file permissions settings and it seems to be fine. My File permissions settings are: lrwxrwxrwx for tester.php Is there something that should be done other way or is this not the proper approach ?

    Hi there, I'm a (complete) php noob and need a little help with something. I'm working on a project whereby a user can select up to 6 categories via a form (I'm using ExpressionEngine). The output is like this: "Cat1","Cat2","Cat3" ...and so on. The user can select up to 6 categories on that form. What I need: even if my result is 3 categories I need to have 6 'cells' - for want of a better word - even if they're empty: "Cat1","Cat2","Cat3","","","" I've tried this: <?php $str = '(output goes here)'; print_r(explode(',', $str, 6)); ?> ...but the output give me: Array ( [0] => Cat1 [1] => Cat2 [2] => Cat3 [3] => [4] => [5] => ) How do I get from that to this: "Cat1","Cat2","Cat3","","","" Does this make sense?   • Create new etherpad using PHP and CURL

    I'm trying to write a simple PHP script which automatically sets up new etherpads (see http://etherpad.com/). They don't have an API (yet) for creating new pads so I'm trying to figure if I can do things another way. After playing around some, I found that if you append a random string to etherpad.com to a not-yet-created pad, it'll come back with a form asking if you want to create a new etherpad at that address. If you submit that form, a new pad will be created at that URL. My thought then was I could just create a PHP script using CURL that would duplicate that form and trick etherpad into creating a new pad at whatever URL I give it. I wrote the script but so far I can't get it working. Can someone tell me what I'm doing wrong?   • PHP wrapper that is API-compatible with PDFlib.

    Are there any wrappers to any of the other PDF generating packages for PHP that provide API compatibility with PDFlib? Our company has been generating PDFs from PHP using PDFlib for many years, but have not upgraded since version 5. Now that we are upgrading some servers, we need either upgrade or find a replacement. I'd like to replace PDFlib with an open-source product that allows commercial use. However, we (foolishly, perhaps) didn't write our own wrapper around PDFlib the first time around, and have many, many lines of code that would need to be changed and tested. I realize I could write my own wrapper, but I find it surprising that my searching thus far has yielded no-one else who has done the same.
