  • Jquery + Prototype Question

    I recently inherited a site which is botched in all sorts of ways. I'm more of a php guy and initially the js was working just fine. The previous developer incorporated a head.inc file which loads up prototype, scriptaculous and then many of the pages are in a sub-template loading up jquery for functions like lightbox.     I have a table w/ 3 columns: name, phone, date. I have 3 indexes: 1 on phone, 1 on date and 1 on phone and date. I have the following statement: SELECT * FROM ( SELECT * FROM people WHERE phone IS NOT NULL ORDER BY date DESC) as t GROUP BY phone Basically, I want to get all unique phone numbers ordered by date. This table has about 2.5 million rows but takes forever to execute....are my indexes right? UPDATE: My EXPLAIN statement comes back with 2 rows: 1 for primary table and 1 for derived table. It says I am using temporary and using filesort for my primary table. For my derived table, it says my possible keys are (phone), and (phone, date) but it is using filesort.

  • Question about inserting/updating rows with SQL Server (ASP.NET MVC)

    I have a very big table with a lot of rows, every row has stats for every user for certain days. And obviously I don't have any stats for future. So to update the stats I use UPDATE Stats SET Visits=@val WHERE ... a lot of conditions ... AND Date=@Today But what if the row doesn't exist? I'd have to use INSERT INTO Stats (...) VALUES (Visits=@val, ..., Date=@Today) How can I check if the row exists or not? Is there any way different from doing the COUNT(*)? If I fill the table with empty cells, it'd take hundreds of thousands of rows taking megabytes and storing no data.

    I'm trying to build a pager where it's just Next / Previous buttons that call a jquery function that post a JSON request. Inside the function, the current page "index" is retrieved from a hidden field and passed to the controller. Inside the controller, I reset the index if I'm on the last page of data. How would I pass the new index value back to the view? Or is there a better way to do what i'm trying to do? Thanks

  • Javascript Pointers question with Dates

    I noticed this situation in my code (unfortunately), and was able to duplicate it in my own JS file. So I have this code: var date1 = new Date(); // today var date2 = date1; date2 = date2.setDate(date2.getDate() + 1); // what is date1? After this code executes, date1 is today's date + 1! This harkens back to my undergrad days when I learned about pointers, and I guess I'm a little rusty. Is that what's happening here? Obviously I've moved the assignment away from date1, and am only modifying date2, but date1 is being changed. Why is this the case? Incidentally, after this code executes date2 is a long number like 1272123603911. I assume this is the number of seconds in the date, but shouldn't date2 still be a Date object? setDate() should return a Date object... Thanks for the help.

    I'm writing an android app that has a standard activity, but also needs to monitor incoming/outgoing calls and texts at all times. In addition, the app needs to notify users of information once a day without having the activity open. The information it notifies users of is stored in a database, so communication with the activity is not necessary. I've been researching for a week and still can't decide how to go about doing this. My instinct tells me I need a remote service that has a constantly running broadcast receiver, but every remote service example I see is overly complicated. Could anyone help me better understand what steps I need to take? Thanks in advance.

    this is my assembly program which is just a function to swap *x *y. so first argument from main is address of x which is in 8(%ebp) and second one is address of y is in 12(%ebp). the program does swap x and y. I need 7 lines for doing this. can you make it 6 lines and there is a condition you can use only %eax,%ecx, and %edx 3 registers. I think about it so much.. but.. I can't make it 6 lines...there must be a way.. isn't it? this might be not a big deal.. but if there is a way to get it in 6lines.     I would like to create a StringVar() that looks something like this: someText = "The Spanish Inquisition" #Here's a normal variable whose value I will change eventually TkEquivalent = StringVar() #and here's the StringVar() TkEquivalent.set(string(someText)) #and here I set it equal to the normal variable. When someText changes, this variable will too... HOWEVER: TkEquivalent.set("Nobody Expects " + string(someText)) If I do this, the StringVar() will no longer automatically update! How can I include that static text and still have the StringVar() update to reflect changes made to someText? Thanks for your help.

    Hi guys, I have this thing that i need to do and some advices will be greatly appreciated. I have a Sql server table with some phone calls.For each phone call i have the start and end time. What i need to accomplish: a stored procedure which for a certain period of time, let's say 5 hours at a x interval, lets say 2 minutes returns the number of connected calls.     My iPhone app was rejected with the following note: "The following non-public APIs are included in your application: Spi Symbols __memset_chk __memmove_chk" These symbols appear in a small number of apparently cocos2d related object files: Grid.o Primitives.o TextureAtlas.o Curiously, this app had already been approved under the previous SDK, but under 3.2 it's being rejected, though that may have nothing to do with it. I'm not at all sure how to resolve this and appreciate any help anyone can offer. Thanks.
