• MySQL Returns wrong values on SELECT statement

  All, I'm wondering if this is a MySQL bug, but since I've seen others playing with larger numbers than this, I'm thinking I'm doing something wrong here.   I am importing data from a mssql database into mysql. Works except when it encounters the id of a previous entry. id is unique. I need to get entries that already exist so that they can be placed in the work of the day. Error is IntegrityError: (1062, "Duplicate entry '001355338' for key 2") This entry is already in the database. I need it entered for that day, but can not have it added to the table. • Having trouble with php and ajax search function

  I am still quite new to php/ajax/mysql. In anycase, I'm creating a search function which is returning properly the data I'm looking for. In brief, I have a mysql database set up. A php website that has a search function. I'm now trying to add a link to a mysql database search rather than just showing the results. In my search.php, the echo line is working fine but the $string .= is not returning anything. I'm just trying to get the same as the echo but with the link to the mysql php record.   I am having a weird experience. I am dynamically creating a row of textboxes at runtime when the user clicks a button. However, on my local machine the text boxes appear correctly (example [TextBox1] [TextBox2] [TextBox3] [TextBox4] [TextBox5] [TextBox1] [TextBox2] [TextBox3] [TextBox4] [TextBox5] [TextBox1] [TextBox2] [TextBox3] [TextBox4] [TextBox5] When I run this app on the production, the output side-by-side is: [TextBox1][TextBox1] [TextBox2][TextBox2] [TextBox3][TextBox3] [TextBox4][TextBox4] The output should be one row of textboxes, then a second row of 5 text boxes Anyone experience this?

  Hello. I am designing a 960px wide layout with an unordered list. Each list item is 240px wide, so 4 list items fit horizontally in a row. I have about 20 rows on the page.... I want every other list item to have a background of #ececec, so my css would be: ul li:nth-child(2n+2){ background-color:#ececec; } This works. The only problem is because there are 4 items in a row (an even #), the next row would be identical, thus rendering background colors on every 1st and 3rd list items in a row. This is not the effect I am looking to achieve. I want the background colors to alternate, creating a grid-like effect. What is the correct css to do so (think a checker board). Thanks!

• How can I efficiently retrieve a large number of database settings as PHP variables?

  Currently all of my script's settings are located in a PHP file which I 'include'. I'm in the process of moving these settings (about 100) to a database table called 'settings'. However I'm struggling to find an efficient way of retrieving all of them into the file. The settings table has 3 columns: ID (autoincrements) name value Two example rows might be: 1 admin_user john 2 admin_email_address [email protected] The only way I can think of retrieving each setting is like this: $result = mysql_query("SELECT value FROM settings WHERE name = 'admin_user'"); $row = mysql_fetch_array($result); $admin_user = $row['value']; $result = mysql_query("SELECT value FROM settings WHERE name = 'admin_email_address'"); $row = mysql_fetch_array($result); $admin_email_address = $row['value']; etc etc Doing it this way will take up a lot of code and will likely be slow. • How do I assign a rotating category to database entries in the order the records come in?

  I have a table which gets entries from a website, and as those entries go into the database, they need to be assigned the next category on a list of categories that may be changed at any time. Because of this reason I can't do something simple like for mapping the first category of 5 to IDs 1, 6, 11, 16. I've considered reading in the list of currently possibly categories, and checking the value of the last one inserted, and then giving the new record the next category, but I imagine if two requests come in at the same moment, I could potentially assign them both the same category rather then in sequence. So, my current round of thinking is the following: lock the tables ( categories and records ) insert the newest row into records get the newest row's ID select the row previous to the insertl ( by using order by auto_inc_name desc 0, 1 ) take the previous row's category, and grab the next one from the cat list update the new inserted row unlock the table I'm not 100% sure this will work right, and there's possibly a much easier way to do it, so I'm asking: A. Will this work as I described in the original problem? B. Do you have a better/easier way to do this? Thanks ~

• Too many columns to index - use mySQL Partitions?

  We have an application with a table with 20+ columns that are all searchable. Building indexes for all these columns would make write queries very slow; and any really useful index would often have to be across multiple columns increasing the number of indexes needed. However, for 95% of these searches, only a small subset of those rows need to be searched upon, and quite a small number - say 50,000 rows. So, we have considered using mySQL Partition tables - having a column that is basically isActive which is what we divide the two partitions by. Most search queries would be run with isActive=1. Most queries would then be run against the small 50,000 row partition and be quick without other indexes. Only issue is the rows where isActive=1 is not fixed; i.e. it's not based on the date of the row or anything fixed like that; we will need to update isActive based on use of the data in that row. As I understand it that is no problem though; the data would just be moved from one partition to another during the UPDATE query. We do have a PK on id for the row though; and I am not sure if this is a problem; the manual seemed to suggest the partition had to be based on any primary keys. This would be a huge problem for us because the primary key ID has no basis on whether the row isActive.

• titleForHeaderInSection is not updating Section Header information correctly

  I have two tableviews where one navigates to the next. Both use more or less the same code and use the managedObjectContext and FetchedResultsController design pattern to provide the relevant data for both tables. My problem happens when I navigate from the first to the second tableview and the data has only one Section Header / Row in the tableview. The data will then not update Section Header information. It does when there is more than one row but not if there is only one row. It leaves the information from the first attempt in place. I can confirm the row data is correct so the relevant data should be being passed to the Section Header correctly but it isn't. Has anyone else come across this problem?

• Altering sql tables based on condition

  Is there any possible way to add a row of data to only some of the tables in a database? I am not sure what parameter I could use amongst the tables to compare them to each other. Any Ideas? For Example: My database has tables that are (let's say) group A tables, and tables that are group B. I want to add a row to only the group B tables while leaving the group A tables untouched. Sorry I should have been a bit more specific. The tables that need to have a row added will change. My application monitors inventory in different store locations(each table in my database represents a store). When I need to add an item to inventory(the items are rows in the tables) I don't want to have to manually add the row to all the store tables. My problem is: Not all the tables in the database represent stores. For instance one table stores the user login data. Obviously I do not want to add the new row to this table. How do I update only the tables that represent stores?
