  The purpose of this blog entry is to explain how you can group list items when displaying the items in a WinJS ListView control. In particular, you learn how to group a list of products by product category. Displaying a grouped list of items in a ListView control requires completing the following steps: Create a Grouped data source from a List data source Create a Grouped Header Template Declare the ListView control so it groups the list items Creating the Grouped Data Source Normally, you bind a ListView control to a WinJS.Binding.List object. If you want to render list items in groups, then you need to bind the ListView to a grouped data source instead. • Treeview - Hierarchical Data Template - Binding does not update on source change?

  Greetings! I ran into this problem in my project (Silverlight 3 with C#): I have a TreeView which is data bound to, well, a tree. This TreeView has a HierarchicalDataTamplate in a resource dictionary, that defines various controls. Now I want to hide (Visibility.Collapse) some items depending on wether a node has children or not. Other items shall be visible under the same condition. It works like charm when I first bind the source tree to the TreeView, but when I change the source tree, the visibility in the treeview does not change. (I.E.: Node.Throughput = Node.Flow + Sum(Children.Throughput), where Node.Flow = 0 for each non-leaf.) • Ubuntu cannot access internet, LAN is fine

  I have an Ubuntu 8.04 LTS server that is directly connected to our Comcast Business Gateway modem and I have configured it with 1 of our 5 allotted Static IPs. My other machines on our LAN can connect to this server (via ssh, web, ping, etc.) but I cannot access this server from outside our network, and this machine cannot get out to the internet either (ping google.com fails with unknown host). Since this should be an open source (GPL) application I thought I would be free to do this. But now I found a page at Qt's website that made me doubtful about it: What are the restrictions with releasing scriptable applications? Unless the scripter has a Qt license, the following restrictions apply: The application itself may not primarily be a script development tool. The Qt API may not be made directly scriptable. Scripts may not alter the main functionality of the application. If the major part of the application is developed with a compiled programming language and only some non-core parts of the application are made extendable/modifiable through Qt Script, the scripter does not need to purchase a Qt or QSA license.   Our team has just moved from Netbeans to Intellij 9 Ultimate and need to know what files/folders should typically be excluded from source control as they are not "workstation portable" ie: they reference paths that only exist on one user's computer. As far as I can tell Intellij wants to ignore most of the .idea project including .idea/artifacts/* .idea/inspectionProfiles/* .idea/copyright/* .idea/dataSources.ids .idea/dataSources.xml .idea/workspace.xml However it seems to want to check in the .iml files that exist in each module's root directory. I originally checked in the entire .idea directory via the command line which is obviously not aware of what "should" be ignored by Idea. Is the entire .idea directory typically ignored?

  I am using JetBrains dotTrace, I've profiled my app which is entirely CPU bound. But the results as you walk down the tree don't sum to the level above in the tree, I only see method calls not the body lines of the node in questions method. Is it possible to profile the source code line by line. i.e for one node: SimulatePair() 99.04% --nextUniform() 30.12% --IDCF() 24.08% So the method calls nextUniform + IDCF use 54% of the time in SimulatePair (or 54% total execution time I'm not sure how to read this) regardless what is happening the other 46% of SimulatePair I need some detail on a line by line basis. Any help or alternative tools is much appreciated. Thanks

  Hi. I'm trying to figure out how I can have a comment header automatically added to all new source files in my eclipse java project. I've looked around but I haven't found a simple solution to automate this process. I gave JAutodoc a try, and even though it does allow me to specify a header I still had to tell the plugin manually to inject the header and it didn't seem very fond of my keyword-subsitution. I'm by the way using the Maven2 plugin for Eclipse for most of my projects if that's any help. Any tips?

• How does one go about understanding GNU source code?

  I'm really sorry if this sounds kinda dumb. I just finished reading K&R and I worked on some of the exercises. This summer, for my project, I'm thinking of re-implementing a linux utility to expand my understanding of C further so I downloaded the source for GNU tar and sed as they both seem interesting. However, I'm having trouble understanding where it starts, where's the main implementation, where all the weird macros came from, etc. I have a lot of time so that's not really an issue. Am I supposed to familiarize myself with the GNU toolchain (ie. make, binutils, ..) first in order to understand the programs? Or maybe I should start with something a bit smaller (if there's such a thing) ? I have little bit of experience with Java, C++ and python if that matters. Thanks!

  Everytime I start a project I have to think carefully about which files to exclude from source control. Has someone made a list of the criteria so I can look it up from the beginning? I work on my own so I have not got round to it. I appreciate that in the case of a DLL, you would want to include some and exclude others, so it is not just dependent on the file extension. My projects are ASP.Net, although a general discussion of other templates would also be useful.

• Is there a way to remove the source domain from the window title in an out-of-browser Silverlight 3

  We may not have the option to migrate over to Silverlight 4 right away, so I was wondering if anyone found a way to remove the source domain name from the window's title for out-of-browser Silverlight 3 applications. Our window title currently looks like this: "My App - localhost." Under Mac, I found the Info.plist file in the application bundle and found where you can set the Bundle name property as well as TrimmedSourceDomain. Unfortunately, when I clear the TrimmedSourceDomain property, the title looks like "My App -," and if I delete the property entirely, the application doesn't launch. I assume similar problems would occur under Windows. Have any of you found a workaround?

However, pages on other web sites that display images hosted on flickr.com must provide a link from each photo back to its photo page on Flickr." Our company currently allows image hotlinking for user-uploaded images. It turns out that this has been more popular than we had expected, and I would like to capitalize on this if possible. We will be altering the guidelines to include a clause similar to Flickr's, quoted above. As hotlinking costs us, both in terms of server load and bandwidth, we would like to get at least something out of it, other than merely a warm feeling inside. My question: Does Flickr "know" if a hotlinked image does not link back to its source? Bonus: if Flickr knows, how?

Its a greenfield project starting with SQL Server as data source but in future, parts of it will move to different NoSQL type of datastores. Also, we may need to experiment with lot of different datastores (like some data may have to go with Cassandra, some with RDBMS, some to other DHT etc.) Therefore easily switchable access layer will be needed. All i know right now is the 'data' and 'operations needed on that data'.

I have no problem changing the manifest.xml file to point to public git trees hosted on github in the same way that CynagonMod does, but when trying to point to private repos I get the following error when trying "repo sync": Initializing project username/android_external_webkit ... fatal: The remote end hung up unexpectedly error: Cannot fetch username/android_external_webkit Where username/android_external_webkit is of course a private github repo of the same name. I understand the error occurs since I did not specify my user name and credentials to github, but I fail to see how to do it in the manifest.xml with repo. Any ideas? Thanks! Gilad

IT can still be improved to merge when inconsistencies are there e.g. if FirstName="Tiju" and FirstName="John" Any commments appreciated. Thanks TJ
