  I'm trying to shrink the log of a database AND set the recovery to simple, but always there is an error, whatever i try. USE 4_o5; GO ALTER DATABASE 4_o5 SET RECOVERY SIMPLE; GO DBCC SHRINKFILE (4_o5_log, 10); GO the output of sp_helpfile says that log file is located under (hosted solution): I:\dataroot\4_o5_log.LDF please help me perform this operation as the log file got large when importing a lot of data and now this info is no longer needed, have multiple (lots of) backups since then. the exact error message when performing the query above is: incorrect syntax near '4'. RECOVERY is not a recognized SET option. incorrect syntax near _5_log'. i am using visual studio 2010 (also have SQL Server Express installed locally, SQL Server 2008 proper installed at provider (shared)) thnx a lot

  Hi. I am working to implement a dataconnection between my C# application and an Sql Express database. Please bear in mind I have not worked with Sql queries before. I have the following relevant tables: ArticlesCommon ArticlesLocalized CategoryCommon CategoryLocalized where ArticlesCommon holds language independent information such as price, weight etc. This is the statement for now: SELECT * FROM ArticlesCommon INNER JOIN ArticlesLocalized ON ArticlesCommon.ID = ArticlesLocalized.ID WHERE ArticlesLocalized.Language = @language ORDER BY ArticlesCommon.DateAdded ArticlesCommon contains a category id for each row. Now, I want to use this to look up the localized information in CategoryLocalized and add it to the result, something like SELECT *, CategoryLocalized.Name as CategoryName. If I have gotten my point across, is this doable? Thank you.

• Alternatives for HP ProtectTools on EliteBook 2530p

  Hi, I'd like to use the HP fingerprint sensor on my Elitebook 2530p. The system is a fresh Win7 Enterprise 64-bit and we are looking for an alternative to the HP ProtectTools Security Suite, which seems a bit bloated. We have tried the UPEK ProtectorSuite (both WBF and stand-alone edition) and they say they can't find the fingerprint device. The device shows up in device manager, in the BioMetric system configuration I have enabled logon to Windows and Domain credentials. Are there any other fingerprint login software (free or commercial) that you can recommend. Thanks in advance, Alex

• Java Issues in Microsoft Internet Explorer & Firefox with Java 6 Standard

  I have a user on Windows XP SP3 running Java 6 Standard Edition Update 20 (build 1.6.0_20-b02). The issue is that when Java applets load the Java splash screen is very shaky (I will have to take a screenshot if you don't know what I am talking about) and than the Java applet screen does not show properly. The Applet we use most is for a security camera and you can't view the camera properly because of the Java issues. I have uninstalled Java and re-installed and still having the same issue. I do not see any errors on the Java Console, and this only happens on his computer I am running the same version of Java and the browsers and do not have the same issue on my machine.

• After adding data files to a file group Is there a way to distribute the data into the new files?

  I have a database in a single file group, with a single file group. I've added 7 data files to this file group. Is there a way to rebalance the data over the 8 data files other than by telling sql server to empty the original? If this is the only way, is it possible to allow sql server to start writing to this file? MSDN says that once its empty its marked so no new data will be written to it. What I'm aiming for is 8 equally balanced data files. I'm running SQL Server 2005 standard edition. Thanks

• Can I send a variable to paypal, and have it post it back to me when payment completes?

  Ive been using express checkout API to convert people's accounts on my site to premium accounts after paying. The only problem with it is that it doesn't send the user back to the site until they click the button to return, and it updates their permission when that happens. About 40% of the users don't seem to do that.... so their accounts never get credited after payment. Although paypal does an instant post-back upon the successful payment, I was never able to make it actually update the user's account right away, since I cant get it to send back some sort of informational that would identify the user that just completed the payment. I could only do that when you are sent back to the site, which sends the transaction ID, that I logged with a post-back. It searches for it, and grants permission if it was found int he DB. Is there a way to submit some sort of a variable to paypal, that it will then post back to me? Something like &user_id=123, which would make it very handly to update the user's permission.

• Machine only responds to network requests from machines it is pinging

  I have two machines. WOPR: Ubuntu server edition 10.10 LTS 32 bit Adam Selene: Windows 7 home premium 64 bit / Ubuntu Desktop 10.10 LTS 64 bit I want to be able to SSH from Adam Selene to WOPR, so I connect them to the same network. Here's where things get weird. I cannot connect to WOPR in any way under normal circumstances. But, if WOPR is pinging Adam, then it starts responding to ping requests, HTTP gets, and SSH tunnels. I'm an amateur, and brand new to Ubuntu server, so I suspect there's a misconfiguration somewhere, but there's an off chance it's a bug in the OS. Does anyone know what might cause this behavior?   I am trying to use the WINAPI ReadConsole() to wait for any keypress at the end of my Win32 console application. However, when the ReadConsole() function executes the error code ERROR_INVALID_HANDLE (0x06) is flagged. I have verified hConsole_c to be a valid handle. Does anyone have any insight as to what I am doing wrongly? I am using Visual C++ 2008 Express Edition. Thanks.

I have a simple one-to-many (models.ForeignKey) relationship between two of my model classes: class TeacherAssignment(models.Model): # ... some fields year = models.CharField(max_length=4) class LessonPlan(models.Model): teacher_assignment = models.ForeignKey(TeacherAssignment) # ... other fields I'd like to query my database to get the set of distinct years of TeacherAssignments related to at least one LessonPlan. I'm able to get this set using Django query API if I ignore the relation to LessonPlan: class TeacherAssignment(models.Model): # ... model's fields def get_years(self): year_values = self.objects.all().values_list('year').distinct().order_by('-year') return [yv[0] for yv in year_values if len(yv[0]) == 4] Unfortunately I don't know how to express the condition that the TeacherAssignment must be related to at least one LessonPlan.   I have a VMWare vSphere 5 Hypervisor server that has a static ip address assigned to it by VLAN that is configured to perform NAT. The static IP is assigned to the bare metal server via the NIC's mac address. I want to setup a guest machine to also have a static ip address, how can I go about having this setup? I have assigned a IP for the guest's MAC Address but it doesn't seem to be working as when I ping the ip address it does not respond. The guest is running ubuntu 10.04 server edition. I am trying to assign it a static public ip address. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Linker complains about unresolved external symbols to overloads, which should have unsigned char parameter. Should I replace uint8_t overload with unsigned char overload? Edit: Just now noticed, that linker complains about uint64_t and int64_t too. I compile on Windows using MSVC++ 2008 Express.

  I am using Google Apps Premier Edition. I want to create a disposable email address service and I want to catch all emails for a domain. This means that I should be able to catch all mails sent to an arbitrary userid and/or arbitrary domain and store them into a single Google Apps account. For example, in a single account I want to get all mails sent to: 1) [email protected] 2) [email protected] without requiring to do any extra configuration in Google Apps for abc or xyz. My app will download mails from this account and process accordingly. I have figured out that I could do (1) by specifying a catch all email address. Is the combination of both (1) and (2) possible?

• How to check if a server runs in pressing mode

  Hi there, Layout: i have at customer side a server (win2003 R2 SP2 standard edition 32-bit) with a sql-server 2005 and some databases. This system starts with the /3GB-Switch. The system reports 3.25 GB RAM and taskmanager reports the process of sqlserver.exe with 2758255 K as the process with the highest consumption. The OS separates RAM for applications and for itself, normaly 50:50. But here we have the /3GB-Switch aktivated and i think the part for the applications is more than 50% of RAM. Knowledge (or better not knowledge): Somebody told me that if the OS runs out of memory within his part of RAM, the server runs into pressing mode. Questions: What is this pressing mode? Is pressing mode possible at all in this szenario? What should be done to get more performance out of this sql-server, beside optimizing the database and all this stuff.

  We just deployed Lync Server 2010 in our organization and it is working great so far. The next step for us is to enable enterprise voice so that we can replace our telephones with service that is handled 100% by Lync. This is where I am at a loss. I have a fully deployed Standard Edition Lync server and a hosted VoIP PBX provider with VoIP handsets. I would like to get rid of the handsets and have my company's phone service be handled by Lync client (e.g. someone calls my work number, and Lync rings instead of my old handset that is set up with the PBX) I am new to deploying these types of features. • Windows 8 Unable to perform hibernate

  Windows 8 Enterprise edition x86. Already enabled hibernate option, to have it on shutdown menu (start menu?) and set to hibernate on lid closing. However it's not hibernating for me. When I'm trying to sleep, it's sleep fine and wake up like a kid. But when I'm demanding hibernate, it disconnects internet, turn off screen and be back to lock screen in one second. Steps I've tried. Complete shutdown Clear hiberfile.sys by disabling and enabling back Resetting my power settings. Causes I suspect: Had dual boot with BackTrack with Windows 8 GUI boot manager. It was fine until I reinstall BackTrack, bootmgr resetted and I'm in Ubuntu boot menu;. Using additional hard disk through USB cable.(But it's not a problem before few days, however) How to make my system to hibernate and wakeup again.

  I'm working with a client who is trying to use our software, which accesses information (sends & receives) from a third-party website. When this client tries to access these pages, a window opens, as expected, but is completely blank and no error message is received. This is the first time I've seen this with many other clients successfully using this product, which leads me to believe that it has something to do with the settings on the computer somewhere, but cannot figure out what might be happening. Windows Server 2003 R2, Standard Edition, Service Pack 2. Firewall is already off. Tried AVG on & temporarily disabled.

• What is the cost in bytes for the overhead of a sql_variant column in SQL Server?

  I have a table, which contains many columns of float data type with 15 digit precision. Each column consumes 8 bytes of storage. Most of the time the data does not require this amount of precision and could be stored as a real data type. In many cases the value can be 0, in which case I could get away with storing a single byte. My goal here is to optimize space storage requirements, which is an issue I am facing working with a SQL Express 4GB database size limit. If byte, real and float data types are stored in a sql_variant column there is obviously some overhead involved in storing these values. What is the cost of this overhead? I would then need to evaluate whether I would actually end up in significant space savings (or not) switching to using sql_variant column data types. Thanks, Elan

  Hi, I'm quite confused with what are the necessary tools for VSTO develpment. Specifically I want to manipulate Excel 2003/2007 documents programmatically. I did quite a lot of VBA before, if you want to relate any answer to that. Few questions I have about VSTO: Can I use Visual Studio 2008 Express Edition C#/C++ for this? Do I need to have .NET framework installed? Does the resulting VSTO program need to have a copy of Office installed in the same system to run? Direct links to the relevant tools/plugins/IDE will be appreciated. Note: I'm totally new to VSTO and .NET but an Office power user. Have experience with COM programming. Thanks.

  I already have an express checkout integrated with my Codeigniter application. Now I want to integrate seamless paypal where I collect the CC information and pass it to Paypal (via backend) and once everything is approved, my application shows that to the user. All this with out ever going to Paypal's website. I know that Paypal gives a bunch of sample code but they have so many different products that advertise to do the same thing. Is there any wrapper library in PHP that I can use for handling all this? What sort of design decision is involved in migrating to such system? Would I need SSL certificates for this?

• Grub os-probe showing deleted Windows installation

  I recently purchased a Dell Vostro notebook with Ubuntu Netbook edition 10.04 pre-installed. I tried adding a partition and installed Windows XP but it didn't work out due to too many partitions in the system already. Now I have restored the laptop to factory setting using Dell Utility partition and the Windows partition is completely deleted, however my grub2 still shows Windows on /dev/sda2 sudo os-probe Microsoft Windows XP Professional (on /dev/sda2) Any ideas how to remove it from grub? I know I can remove /etc/grub.d/30_os-probe but I am more interested in why os-probe is showing the deleted partition.

  I'm new to linux and I've set up a web server with Ubuntu Desktop edition so I can practice with the GUI a bit before transitioning to Ubuntu Server. I've already set up a LAMP stack as well as FTP. Now I just need to know how to transfer my web files to the /var/www folder in Ubuntu. Previously I've worked on Mac OS and there's a central server for all the web files where I can FTP to. Now after I've managed to connect via FTP to the Ubuntu server, I see all the folders such as Desktop, Downloads, Documents etc but no web folder.   I am trying to create a Soap Web Service Client using the Visual C# 2008 Express IDE. I Do that by Right-Clicking Project Name-Add service Reference. Everything is working out fine, and the client is being generated as follows [System.Web.Services.Protocols.SoapDocumentMethodAttribute("operationInfo", RequestElementName="mainInfoTag", RequestNamespace="http://www.example.com/test", ResponseElementName="Answer", ResponseNamespace="http://www.example.com/test", Use=System.Web.Services.Description.SoapBindingUse.Literal, ParameterStyle=System.Web.Services.Protocols.SoapParameterStyle.Wrapped)] [return: System.Xml.Serialization.XmlElementAttribute("somenewID")] public string storeWarrantyInformation(tagBelowMainInfoTag tag, out string somenewID, out string someotherID) As you can see, the method is marked with SoapParameterStyle.Wrapped, what this is does is that it does not create a class corresponding "mainInfoTag". The Questions I have is what determines the Client SoapParameterStyle in the proxy class. I would like to get SoapParamterStyle as Bare, so that I have access to the root XML element. Is there some setting I can specify in the IDE or through 'wsdl.exe' to make this happen.
