  • why is drop box syncing so freakishly slowly in my linux virtual machine?

    - by Bec
i am setting up a linux virtual machine (windows 7 64 bit host, ubuntu 64 bit guest, using virtual box) and i just installed drop box and set it to sync. I've only got about 2Gb in there so i figured it should take just an afternoon, but it's going at about 0.5 kB/second and says it will take about 60 days. I usually get about 200 kB/second in the host OS, and downloading straight from the dropbox website through firefox in the ubuntu VM i get about that, but sync is really slow. any tips?

  • some questions about raid card

    - by cpps
I have some questions about raid card. Use LSI MegaRAID® SAS 9260-8i raid card as a example. There is only two connection ports on the raid card, and they provide two cables that can connect 8 SAS/SATA storages. The document say it can connect "Maximum 32 drives per controller", I want to know how can I connect more than 8 hard disks with this card. Is that they say "Eight internal SATA+SAS ports" means they provide two cables which can connect 8 hard drives, but you can use other way to connect Maximum 32 drives? The other question. I see host bus adapter has raid integrated , so what is the difference between host bus adapter and raid card. Are they the same? I also know is SAS/SATA Expander's function only to connect more hard drives? Thanks in advance.

  • What virtualization solution should I try next, after hitting problems w/ VMWare Player in dual-netw

    - by Alex R
I have been using VMWare Player 2.5 for a while (Ubuntu guest on Vista host, 32-bit). VMWare had worked great until now but then I hit a brick wall: Due to some reorganization of my home network, the host machine now has to use a wireless connection to reach the Internet, while the printer, fileserver, and other important stuff are attached to a local gigabit hub. I have tried several tricks, such as editing the .vmx file, changing settings in vmnetcfg, etc, but I'm still unable to get the virtual Ubuntu box to connect each of the two virtual NICs to different networks (I did get it to recognize two NICs, but both DHCP'd onto the gigabit LAN). So, I'm ready to dump vmware for something with a little more low-level control of network settings. Virtualization is such a crowded space, I could spend months evaluating every product out there. I'm hoping for a shortcut... Can anyone recommend the best VM for my situation described above? Thanks

  • How to convert non key, value java arguments to applet params? (args like -Xmx64m)

    - by bwizzy
I'm trying to use xvpviewer (based on TightVNC) to VNC into my VMs running on Citirx XenServer. There are a couple of caveats required with trusting the certificate from XenServer which I've got working. Essentially I'm trying to convert the java command below (which works on the command line to launch VncViewer) for use in an applet that can be accessed via HTML page. java -Djavax.net.ssl.trustStore=/tmp/kimo.jks -Xmx64m -jar VncViewer.jar HOST "/console?ref=OpaqueRef:141f4204-2240-4627-69c6-a0c7d9898e6a&session_id=OpaqueRef:91a483c4-bc40-3bb0-121c-93f2f89acc3c" PORT 443 PROXYHOST1 192.168.0.5 PROXYPORT1 443 SocketFactory "HTTPSConnectSocketFactory" I know I can put the HOST, PORT etc arguments into param tags for the applet but I'm not sure how to apply the two initial argments.

  • check_ssh executed from Nagios server returns "Server answer: ", nothing else

    - by phs
Commmand works on the host I need to monitor (its IP is denoted as $HOSTADDRESS$ here): [root@host ~]# /usr/local/nagios/libexec/check_ssh localhost SSH OK - OpenSSH_4.3 (protocol 2.0) However, on the Nagios server, it does not: root@server:~# /usr/lib/nagios/plugins/check_ssh -H $HOSTADDRESS$ Server answer: I can see that the port is open: root@server:~# /usr/lib/nagios/plugins/check_tcp -H $HOSTADDRESS$ -p 22 TCP OK - 0.123 second response time on port 22|time=0.123277s;;;0.000000;10.000000 And I can verify with telnet: root@server:/etc/nagios3/conf.d# telnet $HOSTADDRESS$ 22 Trying $HOSTADDRESS$... Connected to $HOSTADDRESS$. Escape character is '^]'. After searching the web for two hours and trying different suggestions I am out of ideas. I have several other hosts with similar setup, and they don't have this problem. I have compared the configs and they look the same (I think). I am clearly missing something here.

  • configuring linux server to send traffic to local machines using local IP address

    - by gkdsp
Two linux servers, server1 and server2, are on the same local network (they also have access to an external network). Server2 has a local IP of 192.168.0.2 and a host name of host2.mydomain.com. QUESTION 1: If an application on server1 sends traffic to server2 using a host name of host2.mydomain.com, what determines whether this traffic is routed to server2 using the local or external network? QUESTION 2: To ensure that all traffic sent from server1 to server2 always uses the local network, could I simply include in the server1 /etc/hosts file the following? 192.168.0.2 host2.mydomain.com ...the thinking being, if the servers are always on the same network there should never be a need for server2 to send traffic to server1 via the external network (that I can think of anyway). Is this done in practice, or is some other method preferred?

  • Is Sql Azure useful without windows azure?

    - by KallDrexx
I am currently doing some research to get some preliminary IT cost projections for a project, and I was looking at Azure. Since this is a startup, I do not want to deal with the IT operations myself and instead am looking at having it all professionally hosted. I am looking at azure due to the SLA assurances, already in place disaster recovery operations, and the reliability. I'm playing with some numbers, and I am wondering if hosting my database on Sql Azure is an option, while hosting the actual webpage on another host until I need the frontend scalability of Azure. Is this actually feasible or will the latency in requests between the web host and azure be too much and I would be better off hosting both on the same service?

  • Forwarding broadcast traffic

    - by Dragos
I have a host that receives broadcast queries on a UDP port. I would like to forward this broadcast traffic to another host from another network. Is it possible to port forwarding broadcast traffic using iptables? I have tried to specify package traffic as broadcast, but I didn't success. (-m pkttype --pkt-type broadcast). If I recive unicast traffic on that port, the forwarding succeeds. I try to forwarding using nat table.(-A POSTROUTING -j DNAT --to-destinatiox x.x.x.x) Thanks.

  • Exclude pings from apache error logs (ran from PHP exec)

    - by fooraide
Now, for a number of reasons I need to ping several hosts on a regular basis for a dashboard display. I use this PHP function to do it: function PingHost($strIpAddr) { exec(escapeshellcmd('ping -q -W 1 -c 1 '.$strIpAddr), $dataresult, $returnvar); if (substr($dataresult[4],0,3) == "rtt") { //We got a ping result, lets parse it. $arr = explode("/",$dataresult[4]); return ereg_replace(" ms","",$arr[4]); } elseif (substr($dataresult[3],35,16) == "100% packet loss") { //Host is down! return "Down"; } elseif ($returnvar == "2") { return "No DNS"; } } The problem is that whenever there is an unknown host, I will get an error logged to my apache error log (/var/log/apache/error.log). How would I go about disabling logs for this particular function ? Disabling logs in the vhost is not an option since logs for that vhost are relevant, just not the pings. Thanks,

  • Cloning OpenVZ container

    - by Tiffany Walker
I have an OpenVZ container on 1 host and I would like to clone it over to my server. both run SolusVM. I only have root access to my server and would like to host the container on my server now. Can I use rsync to clone the drive while the OS is running on both? Using a command like this: rsync -uazPx --exclude='/boot' --exclude='/proc' --exclude='/dev' --exclude='/lib' --exclude='/tmp' --exclude='/var/lock' / [email protected]:/ Is there any other areas I should probably not copy over?

  • SSH from Windows Vista to Ubuntu (using cwrsync)

    - by user39141
Newbie questoin but I can't seem to figure it out. Using cwrsync which in turn calls ssh.exe from a Windows Vista box to Ubuntu. For below, user in ubuntu is 'linuxuser' and user on Windows box is 'winuser' - remote box is 'linuxhost' and windows box is 'winhost' Exported keys such that on the remote box /home/linuxuser/.ssh/authorized_keys is correctly populated. Problem is when I launch ssh it tries to write to /home/winuser/.ssh instead of /cygdrive/home/users/winuser/.ssh as below. c:\Program Files (x86)\cwRsync\binssh linuxuser@linuxhost Could not create directory '/home/winuser/.ssh'. The authenticity of host 'linuxhost (192.168.1.105)' can't be establish ed. RSA key fingerprint is 67:10:a9:49:6e:a3:2b:4a:a0:e0:b7:75:76:da:c3:04. Are you sure you want to continue connecting (yes/no)? Host key verification failed.

  • View a pdf with quick webview though apache proxy

    - by Musa
    I have a site(IIS) that is accessed via a proxy in apache(on an IBM i). This site serves PDFs which has quick web view and if I access a pdf directly from the IIS server the PDFs starts to display immediately but if I go through the proxy I have to wait until the entire pdf downloads before I can view it. In the apache config file I use ProxyPass /path/ http://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx/ <LocationMatch "/path/"> Header set Cache-Control "no-cache" </LocationMatch> I tried adding SetEnv proxy-sendcl to LocationMatch directive this had no effect. The PDFs that view quickly makes a lot of partial requests This is the initial request and response headers GET http://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx/xxx.PDF HTTP/1.1 Host: xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx Proxy-Connection: keep-alive Cache-Control: no-cache Accept: text/html,application/xhtml+xml,application/xml;q=0.9,image/webp,*/*;q=0.8 Pragma: no-cache User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.2; rv:9.0.1) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/9.0.1 Accept-Encoding: gzip,deflate,sdch Accept-Language: en-US,en;q=0.8 Cookie: chocolatechip HTTP/1.1 200 OK Via: 1.1 xxxxxxxx Connection: Keep-Alive Proxy-Connection: Keep-Alive Content-Length: 15330238 Date: Mon, 25 Aug 2014 12:48:31 GMT Content-Type: application/pdf ETag: "b6262940bbecf1:0" Server: Microsoft-IIS/7.5 Last-Modified: Fri, 22 Aug 2014 13:16:14 GMT Accept-Ranges: bytes X-Powered-By: ASP.NET This is a partial request and response GET http://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx/xxx.PDF HTTP/1.1 Host: xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx Proxy-Connection: keep-alive Cache-Control: no-cache Pragma: no-cache User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.2; rv:9.0.1) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/9.0.1 Accept: */* Referer: http://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx/xxxx.PDF Accept-Encoding: gzip,deflate,sdch Accept-Language: en-US,en;q=0.8 Cookie: chocolatechip Range: bytes=0-32767 HTTP/1.1 206 Partial Content Via: 1.1 xxxxxxxx Connection: Keep-Alive Proxy-Connection: Keep-Alive Content-Length: 32768 Date: Mon, 25 Aug 2014 12:48:31 GMT Content-Range: bytes 0-32767/15330238 Content-Type: application/pdf ETag: "b6262940bbecf1:0" Server: Microsoft-IIS/7.5 Last-Modified: Fri, 22 Aug 2014 13:16:14 GMT Accept-Ranges: bytes X-Powered-By: ASP.NET These are the headers I get if I go through he proxy GET /path/xxx.PDF HTTP/1.1 Host: domain:xxxx Connection: keep-alive Cache-Control: no-cache Accept: text/html,application/xhtml+xml,application/xml;q=0.9,image/webp,*/*;q=0.8 Pragma: no-cache User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.2; rv:9.0.1) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/9.0.1 Accept-Encoding: gzip,deflate,sdch Accept-Language: en-US,en;q=0.8 HTTP/1.1 200 OK Date: Mon, 25 Aug 2014 13:28:42 GMT Server: Microsoft-IIS/7.5 Content-Type: application/pdf Last-Modified: Fri, 22 Aug 2014 13:16:14 GMT Accept-Ranges: bytes ETag: "b6262940bbecf1:0"-gzip X-Powered-By: ASP.NET Cache-Control: no-cache Expires: Thu, 24 Aug 2017 13:28:42 GMT Vary: Accept-Encoding Content-Encoding: gzip Keep-Alive: timeout=300, max=100 Connection: Keep-Alive Transfer-Encoding: chunked I'm guessing its because the proxy uses Transfer-Encoding: chunked but I'm not sure and wasn't able to turn it off to check. • Installing Fedora Core 12 on a VPS

    - by cinqoTimo
I'm working on a Linux VPS that is running FC6, and I want to reinstall with the latest version FC12. The VPS is running on the Virtuozzo platform. I am also running Plesk on the VPS. This is all managed hosting through Network Solutions, so I don't have access to the actual box. My question is, how does one reinstall a different OS through Virtuozzo? I see "reinstall VPS" in virtuozzo, but this just burns a fresh copy of FC6? Is this a host-by-host thing, or are there best practices for accomplishing this..?

  • How do I make subsonic (media server) work with SSL?

    - by John Baber
    The roughly out-of-the-box setup as a regular user works fine (meaning the site appears at http://myserver.com:4040). From ps aux java -Xmx100m -Dsubsonic.home=/var/subsonic -Dsubsonic.host=0.0.0.0 -Dsubsonic.port=4040 -Dsubsonic.httpsPort=0 -Dsubsonic.contextPath=/ -Dsubsonic.defaultMusicFolder=/var/music -Dsubsonic.defaultPodcastFolder=/var/music/Podcast -Dsubsonic.defaultPlaylistFolder=/var/playlists -Djava.awt.headless=true -verbose:gc -jar subsonic-booter-jar-with-dependencies.jar but just giving an https port java -Xmx100m -Dsubsonic.home=/var/subsonic -Dsubsonic.host=0.0.0.0 -Dsubsonic.port=4040 -Dsubsonic.httpsPort=6060 -Dsubsonic.contextPath=/ -Dsubsonic.defaultMusicFolder=/var/music -Dsubsonic.defaultPodcastFolder=/var/music/Podcast -Dsubsonic.defaultPlaylistFolder=/var/playlists -Djava.awt.headless=true -verbose:gc -jar subsonic-booter-jar-with-dependencies.jar makes http://myserver.com:4040 say HTTP ERROR: 404 NOT_FOUND RequestURI=/index.view Powered by jetty:// and https://myserver.com:6060 say Unable to connect I'm only making the change by doing # SUBSONIC_ARGS="--port=80 --https-port=443 --max-memory=120" SUBSONIC_ARGS="--max-memory=100 --https-port=6060" in /etc/default/subsonic and issuing a sudo service subsonic restart (this is Ubuntu Oneiric)

  • difference between server and desktop

    - by user1241438
I want to set up a webserver. I would like to buy a hardware for that and i am trying to understand if i should buy a desktop and host the webserver on that or do i have to buy some used server from ebay and host on it. Example is http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=180986172861&ssPageName=ADME:X:RTQ:US:1123 But what is the difference in desktop and server? These days even desktops are coming with high RAM. Only other difference i see is servers have RAID HARD disk. Is there any other difference?

  • Which server requirment for a Redmine, Git and website hosting?

    - by Ephismen
Me and 9 other students are going to start a project that will last a minimum of 2 years, for this purpose we are looking to host all our work on a server. Here are a few tools we would like to work with: Redmine GIT Hosting a website/blog to show our work Hosting an internal and private development website/blog We haven't decided yet which OS we will install, but we were looking toward Ubuntu or Fedora. Having a limited budget, 300$/year, we would like to have some advices on the following dedicated server specifications: Kimsufi 2G: Hardware: Intel Celeron/Atom, 1.20 Ghz, 64 bits, 2Gb DDR2, HDD 1 To, Backup FTP 100Gb Network: Connection 100 Mbps, Illimited trafic Dedibox SC: Hardware: Dell Nano U2250, 1x 1,6GHz, 64 bits, 2Gb DDR2, HDD 160 Gb Network: Connection 1Gbit/sec, Illimited trafic Will these server be sufficient? Should we host the websites on another platform? Would a virtualized server be more appropriate? Thank you for your answers, Ephismen.

  • Remote X-windows between new RHEL5 and old Solaris 8

    - by joshxdr
I have a very small lab network with three boxes: a modern x86-based RHEL3 box, an x86-based RHEL5 box, and a 1998-vintage SPARC Ultra5 with Solaris 8. I can use ssh -X to run a program on the RHEL5 box and view the windows on the RHEL3 box. I believe this uses xauth and magic cookies?? I have followed the X-Windows HOWTO to set up xauth on the Solaris box, but so far no dice. I would like to be able to use the X-windows server on the RHEL3 box with a client program on the Solaris box (program running on Solaris host, windows appearing at Linux host). Is there a trick to this, or have I made a mistake following the instructions for setting up xauth and magic cookie?

  • nginx proxy pass redirects ignore port

    - by Paul
So I'm setting up a virtual path when pointing at a node.js app in my nginx conf. the relevant section looks like so: location /app { rewrite /app/(.*) /$1 break; proxy_pass http://localhost:3000; proxy_redirect off; proxy_set_header Host $host; proxy_set_header X-Forwarded-For $proxy_add_x_forwarded_for; } Works great, except that when my node.js app (an express app) calls a redirect. As an example, the dev box is running nginx on port 8080, and so the url's to the root of the node app looks like: http://localhost:8080/app When I call a redirect to '/app' from node, the actual redirect goes to: http://localhost/app

  • Linux Mint on VirtualBox has no internet connection

    - by Martin
Physical machine: Mac Mini running OSX 10.7.5 Virtual machine: Linux Mint 15 Cinnamon 64-bit Using VirtualBox. I am trying to make the linux connect to the internet. For some reason I can access the host computer with 192.168.2.100. Its set up to show me a web-page that says "It works". This I can see from the linux. But I cannot reach anything on the internet. Either FireFox says "Unable to connect" or when I run nslookup google.com I get connection timed out; no servers could be reached. My setting on VirtualBox under the Network tab are: Bridge Adapter vnic0 promiscouos Mode:Allow All`. If it makes a difference, the host has a WiFi connection to the home router. What have I missed?

  • Using Hamachi VPN to connect to Linux VM at home

    - by Cameron Verotti
I have a CentOS 5.10 Linux box at home running on VMWare, with Windows 2008 as the host. I have set up a Hamachi VPN so that I can connect to the Host server from work, I attempted to add a second VNIC to the VM and bridged it to the hamachi Network Interface. I spun up the VM and checked eth1 with ifconfig and its throwing me a ipv6 address not a ipv4. I want to hook this VM up so that I can run a ssh command from work to the VM. MY network at home is all on Local 198.168.. hence the need to make a VPN network like Hamachi. I cannot seem to find anything that tells me or helps me with tunneling my Linux VM via Hamachi. Any help would be fantastic!

  • Mail Stuck in Backend Exchange Queue

    - by Kyle Brandt
I have a message that has and is stuck in a queue on my backend mail server. The queue is: Internet Mail SMTP Connector (MY_FRONT_END_SERVER_NAME)-524350ff... It is in state retry with 183 failures. It is only one message and all other mail is flowing. The message is not particularly large. My limited understanding, a guess really, is that this message should get handed off to the front end mail server and sent to the remote hosts for which it is destined, so it should even matter if the remote host is up. However, I can telnet to the smtp provider of that host. How can I find out why it is stuck in this queue, and can I force it out somehow (unfreeze doesn't help me)?
