• Render a user control ascx

  I want to use an ascx as a template, and render it programatically, using the resulting html as the return value of an ajax method. Page pageHolder = new Page(); MyUserControl ctlRender = (MyUserControl)pageHolder.LoadControl(typeof(MyUserControl),null); pageHolder.Controls.Add(ctlRender); System.IO.StringWriter swOutput = new System.IO.StringWriter(); HttpContext.Current.Server.Execute(pageHolder, swOutput, false); return swOutput.ToString(); This all executes, and the Page Load event of the user control fires, but the StringWriter is always empty. I've seen similar code to this in other examples, what am I missing?

• Flash is not working in Chrome (Crossover Linux is installed)

  I have google Chrome 8.0.552.237 on Ubuntu 10.10 64-bit and flash is not working, I have tried a variety of methods to install flash, including Firefox flash-aid and the flash-installer package and nothing is working for me. I have even uninstalled and reinstalled chrome to no avail. I get "missing plugin" message where flash plugin should be in a website. What am I missing? I have a variety of plugins returned by jgbelacqua's command: /usr/lib/chromium-browser/plugins/flashplugin-alternative.so /usr/lib/firefox/plugins/flashplugin-alternative.so /usr/lib/flashplugin-installer/libflashplayer.so /usr/lib/iceape/plugins/flashplugin-alternative.so /usr/lib/iceweasel/plugins/flashplugin-alternative.so /usr/lib/midbrowser/plugins/flashplugin-alternative.so /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins/flashplugin-alternative.so /usr/lib/xulrunner/plugins/flashplugin-alternative.so /usr/lib/xulrunner-addons/plugins/flashplugin-alternative.so /usr/share/ubufox/plugins/libflashplayer.so /var/cache/flashplugin-installer/libflashplayer.so I'm not sure which is necessary and which not. I should note tho that my Chromium does have flash and it does work... just not chrome or firefox.

• C# .NET MVC Call an action from another controller

  I have two different objects: contracts, and task orders. My requirements specify that in order to view the Details for either object, the Url should be "http://.../Contract/Details" or "http://.../TaskOrder/Details" depending on which type. They are both very similar and the details pages are almost identical, so I made a class that can either be a contract or a task order, and has a variable "objectTypeID" that says which type it is. I wrote the action "Details" in the task order controller, but now I want to call that from the contract controller instead of recopying the code. So is there any way to have the url still say ".../Contract/Details" but call the action in the TaskOrder controller instead? I tried using TaskOrderController TOController = new TaskOrderController(); TOController.Details(id); This would have worked except that I can't use the HttpContext.Session anymore, which I used several times in the action.

• How do I list installed software with the installed size?

  I would like to have a list the installed software on my machine, with the disk space consumed by them alongside. I would prefer to be able to order by largest/smallest, but that is not a necessity. I am the sort of person who will install software to try it, and never clean up after myself. As a result, my 7GB (Windows and my Data are on separate partitions, as well as a swap area) Ubuntu 11.04 partition is suffering, and has started regularly showing warning messages. I have cleaned my browser cache, as well as everything under Package Cleaner in Ubuntu Tweak, and am left with 149.81 MB off free space.

• Graphics Driver problem, ATI Radeon HD 3200, small screen size and slows everything down.

  Regards. I am using a: 2009 Compaq Presario CQ40-415AU Notebook AMD Athlon X2 Dual core Processor 2.1 GHz 1024 MB L2 cache 3GB DDR2 RAM ATI Radeon + HD 3200 Graphics 256 MB, screen is 14 inch widescreen with resolution of 1280*800. I installed Ubuntu 12.04 LTS 32bit on my laptop. It works brilliantly until I installed graphics driver. When I installed the driver, the graphics became slow. Everything slowed down. Even the splash screen resolution changed to something like 640*480. I have liked Ubuntu since 9.10 and for the freedom it provides and its versatility, but graphics problem remains the same. I even installed Ubuntu on a 50 GB partition with 6 GB swap partition. My HDD is 320 GB. Please tell me what is wrong.

I can find information about this on the Internet but need specific info about how to work with Integrated Pipeline mode (presumably through web.config?) to allow HTTP headers to be manipulated. • Problem installing ubuntu touch on galaxy nexus

  I've installed ubuntu touch on my galaxy nexus following the tutorial on the official site. However the latter is not so clear.. In particular, during the installation, user action on the phone is requested and not documented on the tutorial: 1) The phone asked me whether rebooting, wiping the cache or something else (i did nothing and the phone rebooted) 2) The phone asked me whether replacing or not cmw (or something similar). I asked no.. After the installation all seemed to work correctly. However after shutting down the phone can't power on anymore... When I push the power button the battery icon appears, showing that the battery is completely charged. What am I supposed to do?

• Setting a session variable in Global.asax causes AJAX errors

  I'm getting a very peculiar problem with my asp.net application, it took me an age to track down but I still don't know what is causing this behaviour. If I set a session variable in the Application_PreRequestHandlerExecute event, then my external JavaScript files are ignored, and therfore causing a raft of errors. I have simplified the problem below. E.g. I have file called JScript.js containing the code: function myAlert() { alert("Hi World"); } And in my Default.aspx file I reference the js with the code: <script src="JScript.js" type="text/javascript"></script> And in the body onload event I call the myAlert() function: <body onload="myAlert()"> And finally in the Global.asax file: Private Sub Application_PreRequestHandlerExecute(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As EventArgs) HttpContext.Current.Session("myVar") = "MyValue" End Sub If you run the Default.aspx file you will see the js function isnt called, however, if you comment out the line of code Global.asax then the external js is called and the function executed when the page loads. Why is this?

  Hi All, I am developing a small application in asp.net (writing in c#). In my application I am using jquery to perform asynchronous call to the server. I have an http handler that listens in to the requests and does what it needs to do. Problems start when in the handler I need to access information stored in the page , from where the asynchronous call started. When I try this: Page page = HttpContext.Current.Handler as Page; I don't get a page. How else can I access the page itself? Thank you

• JS and CSS caching issue: possibly .htaccess related

  I've been using the HTML5 Boilerplate for some web projects for a while now and have noticed the following issue cropping up on some sites. My CSS and JS files, when loaded by the browser, are being renamed to things like: ce.52b8fd529e8142bdb6c4f9e7f55aaec0.modernizr-1,o7,omin,l.js …in the case of modernizr-1.7.min.js The pattern always seems to add ce. or cc. in front of the filename. I'm not sure what's causing this, and it's frustrating since when I make updates to those files, the same old cached file is being loaded. I have to explicitly call modernizr-1.7.min.js?v=2 or something similar to get it to re-cache. I'd like to scrap it altogether but it still happens even when .htaccess is empty. Any ideas? Is anyone else experiencing this issue?

• Executing Shell Commands - PHP or Python?

  I know basically two languages: Python and PHP. I am primarily a Drupal developer. I have a great idea in creating a command line program that will help some of the mundane tasks and bring my efficiency up quite a bit. The concept is that of a complete console program, almost like the days when I learned C++ using stdin/out. I want to use this came concept but for this program. I am going to be executing shell commands (mainly drush commands, if you are familiar with drush its drupals way of doing tasks like installing drupal, clearing cache, and other things). I am also wanting to do a database and save/execute through multiple objects and site profiles. My general question is this. Which language would be better suited to handle command line code? Drupal is written in PHP so I am leaned more towards that,but I know python seems to handle console programming a bit easier. Any help would be great!

• Parsing google site speed in analytics

  I'm having a hard time making heads or tails of the Site Speed graphs in Google Analytics. Our site speed is fluctuating wildly from month to month, despite a large sample (the report is "based on 100,000's of visits) and a consistent web set up (static files served from an EC2 instance running nginx behind a load balancer). Here's our site speed, with each datapoint representing a week worth of data. Over this time period we modified our source and HTTP headers to increase our cache hits on static resources by 5x. Why would it fluctuate so much? Is there any way to get more reliable information from those graphs?

• Row Count Plus Transformation

  As the name suggests we have taken the current Row Count Transform that is provided by Microsoft in the Integration Services toolbox and we have recreated the functionality and extended upon it. There are two things about the current version that we thought could do with cleaning up Lack of a custom UI You have to type the variable name yourself In the Row Count Plus Transformation we solve these issues for you. Another thing we thought was missing is the ability to calculate the time taken between components in the pipeline. An example usage would be that you want to know how many rows flowed between Component A and Component B and how long it took. Again we have solved this issue. Credit must go to Erik Veerman of Solid Quality Learning for the idea behind noting the duration. We were looking at one of his packages and saw that he was doing something very similar but he was using a Script Component as a transformation. Our philosophy is that if you have to write or Copy and Paste the same piece of code more than once then you should be thinking about a custom component and here it is. The Row Count Plus Transformation populates variables with the values returned from; Counting the rows that have flowed through the path Returning the time in seconds between when it first saw a row come down this path and when it saw the final row. It is possible to leave both these boxes blank and the component will still work.   All input columns are passed through the transformation unaltered, you are not permitted to change or add to the inputs or outputs of this component. Optionally you can set the component to fire an event, which happens during the PostExecute phase of the execution. This can be useful to improve visibility of this information, such that it is captured in package logging, or can be used to drive workflow in the case of an error event. Properties Property Data Type Description OutputRowCountVariable String The name of the variable into which the amount of row read will be passed (Optional). OutputDurationVariable String The name of the variable into which the duration in seconds will be passed. (Optional). EventType RowCountPlusTransform.EventType The type of event to fire during post execute, included in which are the row count and duration values. RowCountPlusTransform.EventType Enumeration Name Value Description None 0 Do not fire any event. Information 1 Fire an Information event. Warning 2 Fire a Warning event. Error 3 Fire an Error event. Installation The component is provided as an MSI file which you can download and run to install it. This simply places the files on disk in the correct locations and also installs the assemblies in the Global Assembly Cache as per Microsoft’s recommendations. You may need to restart the SQL Server Integration Services service, as this caches information about what components are installed, as well as restarting any open instances of Business Intelligence Development Studio (BIDS) / Visual Studio that you may be using to build your SSIS packages. For 2005/2008 Only - Finally you will have to add the transformation to the Visual Studio toolbox manually. Right-click the toolbox, and select Choose Items.... Select the SSIS Data Flow Items tab, and then check the Row Count Plus Transformation in the Choose Toolbox Items window. This process has been described in detail in the related FAQ entry for How do I install a task or transform component? We recommend you follow best practice and apply the current Microsoft SQL Server Service pack to your SQL Server servers and workstations, and this component requires a minimum of SQL Server 2005 Service Pack 1. The data flow object "Konesans ..." is not installed correctly on this computer, this usually indicates that the internal cache of SSIS components needs to be updated. This is held by the SSIS service, so you need restart the the SQL Server Integration Services service. You can do this from the Services applet in Control Panel or Administrative Tools in Windows. You can also restart the computer if you prefer. You may also need to restart any current instances of Business Intelligence Development Studio (BIDS) / Visual Studio that you may be using to build your SSIS packages.   I’m going back to speak in St. Louis next month.  I didn’t make it last year and I’m looking forward to it.  You can find additional details on the St. Louis SQL Server user group web site.  The meeting will be held at the Microsoft office and I’ll be speaking at 1PM. I’ll be speaking on the procedure cache.  As people get better and better tuning queries this is the next major piece to understand.  We’ll talk about how and when query plans are reused.  The most common issue I see around odd query plans are stored procedures that use one query plan but the queries run completely different when you extract the SQL and hard code the parameters.  That’s just one of the common issues that I’ll address. There will be a second speaker after I’m done, then a short vendor presentation and a drawing for a netbook.

• What is the significance of '*' (star, asterisk) in the file listing results?

  I have noticed that some of my files have an asterisk at end. Does the asterisk at the end have any particular significance? I think they are mostly executable and displayed in green by the ls command. You will see that ./bkmp* and ./bkmp0* have an asterisk at the end. They are executable bash scripts.   I am using impersonation is used to access file on UNC share as below. var ctx = ((WindowsIdentity)HttpContext.Current.User.Identity).Impersonate(); string level = WindowsIdentity.GetCurrent().ImpersonationLevel); On two Windows 2003 servers using IIS6, I am getting different impersonation levels: Delegation on one server and Impersonation on the other server. This causes issues where I am unable to access the UNC share on the server with 'Impersonation' level. What could be causing this difference? I searched through machine.config and IIS settings for the app pool, site and virtual directories - but aren't able to find the cause of this problem.

  I'm localizing application and need to provide JSON representation of local and global resources for JS part of application for all views. My current idea is I'd implement HtmlHelper extension methods like GetLocalResourcesJSON/GetGlobalResourcesJSON which should encode all resource keys+values and return them JSON encoded as string (I'd implement caching as well). At the moment I'm able to retrieve single specific key from global or local resource belonging to current view (using httpContext.GetGlobalResourceObject/GetLocalResourceObject), but I'm not able to find out how to retrieve whole resource object and iterate all its keys+values. Is there any method how to achieve this? it looks like ResourceProviderFactory could be the the key to this problem, but it's not accessible publicly anywhere. I could instantiate ResourceExpressionBuilder and use reflection to retrieve the provider using GetLocal/GlobalResourceProvider() methods, but I don't like using reflection here at all...
