Hi! I need help with my browsers. In my OS (windows 7 basic) installed 2 browsers: IE 8 and Google Chrome. When I trying to open pages, which associated with microsoft.com (like ms live and others), my browser crashes. IE 8 crashes too. But Opera (I've installed it later) works fine with that pages. P.S. I tried to search the trojan software and viruses. But my PC is clean.

I have a Windows XP and I just installed about 12 new programs. Big mistake! Before I installed these programs, my internet connection was running great. But now after installing and restarting my laptop, the internet is crawling. How can I see what was changed? Hint: prior to installing these 12 programs, I installed IE version 8. So probably if I removed that it would fix it, but the problem is I need IE in order for my SQL/C# web application to work properly.

Definitive method for sizing font in css

Hi there, I would like to know some opinions from experienced developers on what they think the definitive way to size fonts (in a base sense). I know that working with ems is considered best but im referring to the best way to set the base font size. There is the technique of setting font to 10px using 62.5 method but i think ie has an issue with rounding which throws this out slightly (perhaps not) YUI framework uses body { font:13px/1.231 arial,helvetica,clean,sans-serif; /* for IE6/7 */ *font-size:small; /* for IE Quirks Mode */ *font:x-small; } which really confuses me! Tripoli uses html { font-size:125%; } body { font-size:50%; } a list apart suggest something along the lines of : body { font-size: 16px; *font-size: 100%; } So which is the best either out of these methods or any alternatives. The best being the easiest to work with and the most reliable cross browser.

Windows desktop gadget RSS Feed colour coding items

I have a desktop gadget that pulls RSS Feeds from a website. The Feed contains information about issues - ie. Priority, Time, Description. The Feed items are displayed on the desktop - however I need to colour code them according to their priority ie 1 = red etc. using the substr function - is there a better way to do this using JavaScript / HTML? I need to parse JavaDoc (documentation) comment syntax with Delphi 7. It is well known in the java world as "JavaDoc", but I'm actually doing this for PHP, ie, parsing JavaDoc in some PHP code. Call it PHPDoc if you want to. To see how these comments work, you can see RAD IDEs like NetBeans etc. Example of JavaDoc for addition function: /** * Adds to numbers together. * @param integer $a The first number. * @param integer $b The second number. * @return integer The resulting number. */ function add($a,$b){ return $a+$b; } Please note that the parser need not be full, ie, parsing all of the PHP code. How do I get javascript-generated image maps to work with internet explorer?

I'm using javascript to generate a high resolution grid for an image that I generated on a web server. The high-resolution grid is composed of a 'map' element with hundreds of 'area' child elements. Each 'area' element has onmouseover attribute that causes the display of a popup box. After assigning the map to the img (via the usemap attribute), Internet explorer ignores the 'onmouseover' attribute of the area elements that I added via javascript. The behavior is not caused by syntactical variations between IE and other browsers. A static map behaves correctly. Only the elements that I add dynamically to an existing image map fail to fire their corresponding mouse-over events. Trying to make my leaflet map work on internet explorer

I have been tearing my hair out of late trying to get my web map working on internet explorer. It's working flawlessly on every other major browser but none of the content will load in IE. Anyone out there who's good at browser testing that could help out? I know the leaflet javascript api, which I'm using for this project, supports IE in theory. In practice this isn't working out too well... Applet problem with IPlanet and Firefox (class not found)

I have an applet which loads nicely when accessed locally (both IE and Firefox). However, when I put my webpage in a webserver (local IPlanet), it refuses to load on Firefox (but still fine on IE). Changing content using innerHTML with a non-standard element in Internet Explorer

I have the non-standard element <testele></testele> In every browser except IE, this bit of JavaScript will successfully change the content of the above element document.getElementsByTagName("testele")[0].innerHTML = 'hi'; However, if I change the <testele> to just a <span> (in the HTML and the JavaScript), it now successfully changes the content of the element in every browser, including IE. Is there any fix? I have searched around and tried a bunch to no avail.

How to change button's image in visual c++ at run time?

After trying and error for many times, I decided to ask here. My objective is I wanted to change the feature of my IE toolbar button. The button is firstly setup by IE at IE startup using the function CRebarHandler::onSetRedraw and CRebarHandler::setButtonMenu2(). And then, I create a call from another cpp file, to call CRebarHandler::setButtonMenu2(). I intent to change just the button's image. I assigned the ID of the image correctly. But somehow it does not work. When I put other code inside this function,like a code for writing to file, it is proven work. Means, it is properly being called from the other file. But the thing is, the code for the button inside CRebarHandler::setButtonMenu2() seems does not work. Need help. Codebase for making a Flash-based interactive map with SVG vector data?

I'm looking for a way to take SVG path info (basically a string of coordinates) and dynamically draw it with Actionscript. Icing on the cake would be if those shapes could detect mouse events to trigger JS and dynamically change their appearance (fill, stroke, etc...). I'm currently trying something similar to this (http://raphaeljs.com/australia.html) using SVG but it's just too slow in IE. I've also tried Google's SVG Web (http://code.google.com/p/svgweb/) which basically does exactly what I'm looking for (it converts SVG to Flash in IE) but again, it's sloooooow - which is why I'm considering doing the whole shebang in Flash. Anyone know of some links to point me in the right direction?

Background positioning - CSS

Hello I have a problem with IE. I have a fixed div like this: #fixed { position: fixed; top: 0px; left: 0px; z-index: 9998; width: 100%; height: 40px; } Inside this div I want to place another div that has a height that is higher than its holder (higher than 40px). So I put a relative or an absolute div inside it and it works splendid in all browsers except IE, at least IE8. But in IE8 the child div gets cut because of the height of 40px specified for it's holder. Is there any workaround to this problem? I'm starting to get gray hairs..

Having looked into How can I make a JQuery UI Dialog automatically grow or shrink to fit its contents?, I am using the height: "auto" option when building a jQuery modal dialog box: $( "#dialog-message" ).dialog({ autoOpen: false, width: "400", height: "auto", show: "slide", modal: true, buttons: { Ok: function() { $( this ).dialog( "close" ); } } }); However, the height isn't "growing" to fit all of the contents. I'm still seeing a vertical scrollbar as in this image: Is there a way right in the definition code I listed to ensure that the height grows enough so that a vertical scrollbar doesn't show? Or, do I need to do this programmatically before opening the dialog box? Edit 1 Not sure why, but Chrome is displaying this fine but IE 8 isn't. I need it to specifically work in IE 8 so I believe I'm just going to put a bottom margin on the text.

creating BeanInfo objects in NetBeans 6.1 does not work for some objects

I have recently learned about BeanInfo classes in Java, and have successfully used them to add icons to my custom GUI components which extend swing components such as JTextField, however i have a more specialized GUI component which extends from another one of my GUI components, which then extends from JTextField. Ie. the class hierarchy is of the form "A - B - JTextField". I can create a bean info object that works for class B, but when i click on the bean info editor option in netbeans to create a bean info object for class A, nothing happens. Ie. there is no error pop-up and a bean info object is not created. There isn't much difference between class A and B. Both A and B have default no argument constructors and they are very similar to each other. The only thing i can really think of is that A uses generics and B does not. I would like to create a beaninfo object for class A so that i can add custom icons for that component. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

jQuery text attribute selector

I am trying to use the text attribute as a selector, but I can't quite grasp the behaviour, would really appreciate if someone could explain. For example given <span class="span_class"><a class="a_class">text</a></span>, $('a.a_class').text() gives "text" as expected. However $('a.a_class[text]') wouldn't match any elements, and neither would $('span.span_class > a.a_class[text]'), but $('span.span_class* > a.a_class[text]') would (although not in IE). The only workaround I can think of for IE, is loop through all anchors contained in a span, use .text() on each and match it against a certain criteria, but it seems slower than using in-built selectors. Anyone have better ideas?

I have an array: tokens = [["hello","world"],["hello","ruby"]] all_tokens = tokens.flatten.uniq # all_tokens=["hello","world","ruby"] Now I need to create two arrays corresponding to all_tokens, where the first array will contain the position of each word in sub-array of tokens. I.E Output: [[0,0],[1],[1]] # (w.r.t all_tokens) To make it clear it reads, The index of "hello" is 0 and 0 in the 2 sub-arrays of tokens. And second array contains index of each word w.r.t tokens.I.E Output: [[0,1],[0],[1]] To make it clear it reads,the index of hello 0,1. I.E "hello" is in index 0 and 1 of tokens array. Cheers!

Form action with #hashtag not working in internet explorer

I am using jquery-ui tabs and I've set it up to select the correct tab depending on the #hash from the requested URL. I have a form which performs a search, and each tab present the result from different providers. so if the form is submitting to the action "/myAction#tab1", when the results load, the corresponding tab gets selected. This works perfectly in every browser except for IE. When my form is submitted, it loses somehow the #hash which describes which tab to select. Is that yet another a bug from IE, or am I doing something wrong? I could not find much information about this, but I can hardly believe that this is not a common problem.

How do I make Pseudo classes work with Internet Explorer 7/8?

I've written the following code to create a three-column layout where the first and last columns have no left and right margins respectively: #content { background-color:#edeff4; margin:0 auto 30px auto; padding:0 30px 30px 30px; width:900px; } .column { float:left; margin:0 20px; } #content .column:nth-child(1) { margin-left:0; } #content .column:nth-child(3) { margin-right:0; } The problem is that this code does not work in Internet Explorer 7 and 8? The only pseudo class I can use with IE (in this case) would be "first-child," but this does not eliminate the right margin on the third and last column. Does anyone know of a way I can make this code work on IE 7/8?
