• Online Backup strategy for family individuals

  The majority of my family, including myself, uses Dropbox and Syncplicity free accounts for our syncing needs. However our backup strategy is pretty non-existent, we all have access (via webDav) to our qnap nas located at home, however we copy files accross when we can remember to do so, terrible I know. Is there tools like CrashPlan or Spideroak that allows each the accomodation of each family members syncing and back-up needs under one main account? I'm not sure how this would work, as each family member would need a seperate sub-account or would I manage each computer's syncing and backup lists from a single account? Any thoughts?

  I extend NSOperation (call it A) which contains NSOperationQueue for other NSOperations (which is another extended class different from A, call these operations B). When operation A is running (executing B operations) how do i call a specific function/method on operation A when certain event takes place on B operations?   Hi, I have a fairly basic SQL Server Reporting Services report that is using nested row groups. Each sub-group depends on expanding its parent to be visible which is all pretty standard. The layout is something like this: { Company { { Car SUM(Price) { { { Part Price My desired result when expanded is something like this (which I get fine): - SuperCarCompany - SuperCar 20 Door 20 - SuperCar2 70 Door 30 Window 40 - OtherCarCompany - SuperCar2 50 /* Same SuperCar2 */ Door 50 - MoreCarCompany - BestCarEver 535 Engine 500 Door 30 Window 5 And when opened initially something like this: + SuperCarCompany + OtherCarCompany + MoreCarCompany However, I'm getting this: + SuperCarCompany + SuperCar2 70 (i.e. sum of all SuperCar2) + OtherCarCompany + SuperCar 20 + MoreCarCompany + BestCarEver 535 and I can even expand these superfluous rows like this: + SuperCarCompany - SuperCar2 70 (i.e. sum of all SuperCar2) Door 30 (i.e. first child of any SuperCar2) The superflous rows dissapear immediately when I expand the expected row above it (i.e. I'd need to expand all expected rows to get rid of all superflous rows). Any idea on the cause?

• Where is the central ZFS website now?

  Oracle dumped OpenSolaris in Fall 2010, and it is unclear if Oracle will continue to publicly release updates to ZFS, except maybe after they release their next major version of Solaris. FreeBSD now has ZFS v28 available for testing. But where did v28 come from? I notice that the main ZFS website does not show version 28 available. Has this website been abandoned? If so, where is the central website for the ZFS project, so that I can browse the repo, read the mailing lists, read the release notes, etc. (I realize that OpenSolaris has been dumped by Oracle, and that they are limiting their ZFS releases to the community).

• Problems installing Ruby 1.9.2 and rvm on Debian Lenny

  I have currently have Ruby 1.9.1 (bad) and want to install 1.9.3 under rvm. However, rvm requirements gives a long list: install build-essential openssl libreadline6 libreadline6-dev curl git-core zlib1g zlib1g-dev libssl-dev libyaml-dev libsqlite3-dev sqlite3 libxml2-dev libxslt-dev autoconf libc6-dev ncurses-dev automake libtool bison subversion But I've hit a problem here: /# apt-get install libreadline6 Reading package lists... Done Building dependency tree Reading state information... Done E: Couldn't find package libreadline6 ...and (I imagine after just hunting down a Debian source to download curl) finding these packages isn't going to be a picnic. Given that there are few packages to install before I can get rvm to install Ruby 1.9.3, what's a good way forward? My sources.list: deb http://archive.debian.org/debian/ lenny main contrib

• Passing a non-iterable to list.extend ()

  Hello, I am creating a public method to allow callers to write values to a device, call it write_vals() for example. Since these values will by typed live, I would like to simplify the user's life by allowing them type in either a list or a single value, depending on how many values they need to write. For example: write_to_device([1,2,3]) or write_to_device(1) My function would like to work with a flat list, so I tried to be clever and code something like this: input_list = [] input_list.extend( input_val ) This works swimmingly when the user inputs a list, but fails miserably when the user inputs a single integer: TypeError: 'int' object is not iterable Using list.append() would create a nested list when a list was passed in, which would be an additional hassle to flatten. Checking the type of the object passed in seems clumsy and non-pythonic and wishing that list.extend() would accept non-iterables has gotten me nowhere. So has trying a variety of other coding methods. Suggestions (coding-related only, please) would be greatly appreciated.

  Here's what I'm doing (sorry for the variable names, I'm not using those in my code): File.open("out_file_1.txt", "w") do |out_1| File.open("out_file_2.txt", "w") do |out_2| File.open_and_process("in_file_1.txt", "r") do |in_1| File.open_and_process("in_file_2.txt", "r") do |in_2| while line_1 = in_1.gets do line_2 = in_2.gets #input files have the same number of lines #process data and output to files end end end end end The open_and_process method is just to open the file and close it once it's done. It's taken from the pickaxe book. Anyway, the main problem is that the code is nested too deeply. I can't load all the files' contents into memory, so I have to iterate line by line. Is there a better way to do this? Or at least prettify it?

  I'm in need of an application that can manage multiple Internet Explorer instances (to be precise nomerge sessions) like you can in Remote Desktop Manager with RDPs. This app should host them in single window and arrange IE instances e.g. in tabs or lists. OK, in Remote Desktop Manager you can create Web session, but in embedded mode you cannot set the nomerge option - all windows and tabs share the same session. I've been searching the web, but with no results. So I put this question whether anyone know of such application or any workaround. Or I have to write my own app?

  Where can I find a list of domain names that I can download in a text file? I looked around and I found many sites with lists of expired domain names or domain names that will expire soon, but that's not what I need, I need a list of CURRENTLY REGISTERED domain names. The closest I found was this site (hxxp://www.list-of-domains.org/), but what I'm looking for ideally is just a plain list of registered domains and not some web links split across many pages full with ads and no text file. I know it's possible, after all how do these sites get the list of domains that they use? Where can I find such a list?

• Troubleshooting a high SQL Server Compilation/Batch-Ratio

  I have a SQL Server (quad core x86, 4GB RAM) that constantly has almost the same values for "SQLServer:SQL Statistics: SQL compilations/sec" and "SQLServer:SQL Statistics: SQL batches/sec". This could be interpreted as a server running 100% ad hoc queries, each one of which has to be recompiled, but this is not the case here. The sys.dm_exec_query_stats DMV lists hundreds of query plans with an execution_count much larger than 1. Does anybody have any idea how to interpret / troubleshoot this phenomenon? BTW, the server's general performance counters (CPU,I/O,RAM) all show very modest utilization.

  I've got two models class SurveyResponse has_many :answers, :class_name => SurveyResponseAnswer.name accepts_nested_attributes_for :answers end class SurveyResponseAnswer belongs_to :survey_response validates_presence_of :answer_text end In my nested form if validation fails I get this error displayed on the screen: "answers answer text can't be blank" I've customized my attribute names somewhat successfully using rails I18n. It doesn't behave exactly how I would expect though. The yml file below doesn't affect how the attribute name is printed in error_messages_for en: activerecord: models: survey_response: answers: "Response" But if from script/console I try SurveyResponse.human_attribute_name("answers") I get the expected result of "Response". What I'd like to do is have the validation error message say: "Response answer text can't be blank". Any ideas what I need to fix?

• Disable Mailman Reminders

  We run a mailserver on OSX server, and a few mailing lists. The password/subscription reminds USED to come out at 8AM (local), but in the past months it's moved to 5AM, a nuisance to all involved. It would appear that mailman has been modified by Apple because there is no cronjob entry I can find that controls when these reminder notices come out, and I haven't found any launch agent/daemon plists that would control this ether. Nor have I found anything in the mailman configuration web pages. So... where are they?! Due to the specific-announcement style of use, they're a fairly worthless message to be originated, and they are a huge bother when announcing to support phones.

And I'm trying to guess where this restriction came from and have no ideas.

• spring web application context is not loaded from jar file in WEB-INF/lib when running tomcat in eclipse

  I am experimenting with spring, maven, and eclipse but stumbling on a weird issue. I am running Eclipse Helios SR1 with the STS (Spring tools suite) plugin which includes the Maven plugin also. What i want to achieve is a spring mvc webapp which uses an application context loaded from a local application context xml file, but also from other application contexts in jar files dependencies included in WEB-INF/lib. What i'd ultimately like to do is have my persistence layer separated in its own jar file but containing its own spring context files with persistence specific configuration (e.g a jpa entityManagerFactory for example). So to experiment with loading resources from jar dependencies, i created a simple maven project from eclipse, which defines an applicationContext.xml file in src/main/resources Inside, i define a bean <bean id="mybean" class="org.test.MyClass" /> and create the class in the org.test package I run mvn-install from eclipse, which generates me a jar file containing my class and the applicationContext.xml file: testproj.jar |_META-INF |_org |_test |_MyClass.class |_applicationContext.xml I then create a spring mvc project from the Spring template projects provided by STS. I have configured an instance of Tomcat 7.0.8 , and also an instance of springSource tc Server within eclipse. Deploying the newly created project on both servers works without problem. I then add my previous project as a maven dependency of the mvc project. the jar file is correctly added in the Maven Dependencies of the project. In the web.xml that is generated, i now want to load the applicationContext.xml from the jar file as well as the existing one generated for the project.   Do we have to explicitly manage database resources when using Spring Framework.. liking closing all open connections etc? I have read that Spring relieves developer from such boiler plate coding... This is to answer an error that I am getting in a Spring web app: org.springframework.jdbc.CannotGetJdbcConnectionException: Could not get JDBC Connection; nested exception is java.sql.SQLException: ORA-00020: maximum number of processes (150) exceeded The jdbcTemplate is configured in the xml file and the DAO implementation has reference to this jdbcTemplate bean which is used to query the database.

• Proper way to setup a UISegmentedControll on UINavigationController UINavigationBar all inside UITab

  The title pretty much describes it all. The problem being the handling of the UISegmentedControll callbacks (button presses). If the content type of all of the nested views was the same (i.e. some UITableViewControllers) then I could just switch dataSource'es and reload the tables. However this is not the case, I have 3 very different views in there that allow further drilldown / interaction based on the NavigationControllers. So the way I have this set up ATM is that there is a "container" class that I put all of the UINavigationControllers in. They all share the same and one UISegmentedController and I redirect the callbacks to the container view controller. This does not feel too good at all. Additionally there is a problem when the user taps on the tab bar icon, the navigation controller pops to root which is ... the empty container view. Here's a picture of what I want to achieve:

• Internet Explorer visual element stacking issue

  Gday All, I know this issue is well known, however I have searched high and low for a solution to no avail. I have created a menu system using nested ordered lists where the menu functionality is controlled by CSS and Jquery. The menu works perfectly in FF, Chrome, Opera and Epiphany. However in IE 6/7/8 my popup menu is being displayed underneath a table. See the image below. The very top box is a div element containing my menu system. I am working with legacy code that uses tables for display so the next box and the "ts found. Try a different subcate" text is in a "td" element of a table. I have tried to force the table to have a lower z-index but this does not work. Any insights into why this is only present in IE would be appreciated. Cheers, Michael

• XQuery - problem with recursive function

  Hi all, Im new on this project and am going to write, what i thought was a simple thing. A recursive function that writes nested xml elements in x levels (denoted by a variable). So far I have come up with this, but keeps getting a compile error. Please note that i have to generate new xml , not query existing xml: xquery version "1.0"; declare function local:PrintTest($amount) { <test> { let $counter := 0 if ($counter <= $amount ) then local:PrintTest($counter) else return $counter := $counter +1 } </test> }; local:PrintPerson(3) My error is: File Untitled1.xquery: XQuery transformation failed XQuery Execution Error! Unexpected token - " ($counter <= $amount ) t" I never understood xquery, and cant quite see why this is not working (is it just me or are there amazingly few resources on the Internet concerning XQuery?)
