• CS3, Illustrator - Where Do X/Y Coordinates Measure from?

  I have a project where there are several PDF files. I'm using Illustrator to make these. It seems the point/line of origin is inconsistent from image to image (file to file). Where is the point of origin, by default, in CS3 Illustrator? It would be nice if, while I was positioning images, I could just say, "OK, x coordinate is 5.5 inches in this document, so it is 5.5 in that one." But it seems this is not the case. Anyone know how Illustrator sets these parameters?

  There is this CVE-2014-0224 bug in openssl so I would like to update my affected # openssl version OpenSSL 0.9.8o 01 Jun 2010 But there is no update for squeeze. I read the it is already fixed in squeeze-LTS. What I am supposed to do? Will there be an fix for squeeze and I just need to wait? Should I install an openssl update manually? How? I tried to install openssl-0.9.8za and openssl-1.0.1h with wget, ./config, make, make install but openssl version is still that same. I also tried config parameters but with this build fails.

  I have Asterisk/1.8.13.1 Asterisk GUI-version : SVN--r Yes, quite old one, but I can not update it since this is installed on my Synology NAS. NAS is connected to internet thru router Asus RT-N16. I should use the following data to connect to the server: Auth name – 7499952XXXX User name/User ID/Display Name – nickname Authorization user name - [email protected] Domain - sip.beeline.ru SIP proxy server - msk.sip.beeline.ru I've also found the following string: [email protected]:password:[email protected]@msk.sip.beeline.ru:5060/7499952XXXX I've tested the parameters on my PC thru X-Lite and it works well (so, assume there is no any problem with the router, no need to do anything with router's NAS settings). But since I am quite new to Asterisk, I can not understand where to input all these data. Asterisk GUI doesn't have fields for proxy: Can somebody please help me with step-by-step instruction?   I have an office with a router and a remote server (Linux - Ubuntu 10.10). Both locations need to connect to a data supplier through a VPN. The VPN is an IPSEC gateway. I was able to configure my Linksys rv42 router to create a VPN connection successfully and now I need to do the same for Linux server. I have been messing around with this for too long. First I tried OpenVPN, but that is SSL and not IPSEC. Then I tried Shrew. I think I have the settings correct but I haven't been able to create the connection. It maybe that I have to use something else like a direct IPSEC config or something like that. If someone knows of a way to turn the following settings that I have been given below into a working IPSEC VPN connection I would be very grateful.   I have a bunch of PNG files, generated from a script. They represent consecutive frames of a video sequence and I'd like to encode them into a single AVI file (or some other video format) using mencoder. What parameters should I use to ensure that the video can be viewed on a vanilla Windows XP using Windows Media Player with no extra codecs installed apart from the default ones? So far I've tried -ovc lavc -lavcopts vcodec=wmv2 and -ovc lavc -lavcopts vcodec=msmpeg4 with no success. (Background story: some of the people I'm collaborating with on a scientific project cannot install any codecs on their university computers without the help of the local sysadmins, who are of course not very willing to install anything. I'd like to ensure that they can also view the video files I am creating).

• Time between AWS Notifying of Scale Down and Terminating instance

  Here is the scenario, there are multiple EC2 instances behind a load balancer. When traffic dies down, the SCALE_DOWN policy is triggered from a CloudWatch alarm. What I would like, is for the instance that is going to be terminated, or a separate server altogether, to be able to run a quick script that will execute a few commands to ensure all data has been transferred. My initial question was going to be how can I send a notification when an instance is going to be terminated by an auto scale, SCALE_DOWN policy. But then I saw this question Amazon EC2 notifying the instance when the autoscale service terminates it. If the notification is sent, how much time is there before the instance actually gets terminated? Are there any parameters to specify this time? Would it be a better idea to notify an instance that it is no longer needed, and get the instance to terminate itself once it has finished running the final script? Or, am I making this into a bigger problem than it actually is, and theres a far simpler solution?

  Hello, Just bought Logitech G35 USB headset, want to enable/disable headet in one action. I have windows 7 64 bit, and currently, to switch from the headset to my spakers (or vice versa) without unplugging the headset, i have to go thru this steps: right click on the sound icon select "sounds" select the "Playback" tab right click headset and hit enable right click speakers and hit disable same steps when wanting to switch back I have to disable the devices, because not all of the programs which are outputting sound will switch immediately if I just set either device to default. I am looking for this to be a single action (either a batch script or a windows shortcut to some action with parameters?) Thanks!

• How do you check Driver Verifier logs on Windows 7 after catching a faulty driver?

  I kept getting BSODs on a clean install of Windows 7 (plus updates), so I decided to run Driver Verifier. I had to select all drivers, since it didn't catch the culprit when I didn't include Microsoft drivers. I know it is not a hardware problem since everything is working fine on Linux and memtest86+ is not reporting any errors in the RAM (8 GB). This time, it caught the faulty driver and gave me a BSOD telling me so. Using WhoCrashed, I could verify what was the last error message with the parameters and the source. Yet, the source is always the kernel (ntoskrnl.exe) and the bugcheck this time was 0xC4 (0x85, 0xFFFFF9804429AFC0, 0x2, 0x11B948). After searching on the web, I found out "the driver called MmMapLockedPages without having locked down the MDL pages." As I am not developing any driver, this is of no use to me. However, I would like to know which driver caused Driver Verifier to trigger an alert, so I can either disable it, or rollback to a previous version in order not to get crashes anymore.

• How to run "mongodb --repair" if it's an Upstart job?

  My MongoDB server died. The log says something about an unclean shutdown and an existing mongodb.lock file. It recommends to remove the lock file, then restart the mongodb server with --repair. However, on my system (Ubuntu 10.10), I've installed MongoDB via an apt-get package, and it's set up as Upstart job. If I run mongodb from the command line, it won't find the data, none of the paths are set correctly. Surely, I could read the man page, try to emulate what Upstart would do, give it all the correct parameters plus --repair but that seems like a lot of trouble. There must be a simpler way, that's not fighting Upstart. What is it?

The configuration fo the client machine is below. HP Desktop Machine: Microsoft Windows XP Intel (R) Core2 Duo CPU E8400 @ 3.00 GHz 2.99 GHz, 1.94 GB of RAM Intel (R) Q45/Q43 Series Express Chipset (Inbuild) The CPU usage of the machine peaks 99% for 16 straems. After some discussion, we had decided to install external graphics card to reduce the CPU usage. So that, we have tried following graphics cards. NVIDIA Quadro NVS 440 - 128 MB Radeon HD 4350 - 512 MB GDDR2 Redeon HD 4350 - 1GB DDR2 ASUS EAH 4350 Silent 1GB DDR2 But the performance wise no difference, even worst. So, what is the pupuse of these external graphics cards? Really it will reduce the CPU usage? What parameters have to check, if we want to reduce the CPU usage? • How to configure mysqldump to avoid max_allowed_packet error

  Honestly it baffles me that with a completely default installation of mysql if I run mysqldump with default parameters it generates a SQL file that can't be imported into another completely default installation of mysql. From what I can gather it's got something to do with the max_allowed_packet setting and/or the net_buffer_length setting. I've read a bunch about this, and tried tweaking it a bunch of ways on both the export and import sides, but it still doesn't work. I keep getting the packet too big error on import. From everything I've read, here's my best guess: mysqldump --net_buffer_length=50000 myschema > giant_file.sql Because I read here that mysqldump refers to max_allowed_packet as net_buffer_length because ... uhh ... anyway. Then to import mysql --max_allowed_packet=999999 myschema < giant_file.sql But this still doesn't work. How do I export / import the database???

After some discussion, we had decided to install external graphics card to reduce the CPU usage. So that, we have tried following graphics cards. NVIDIA Quadro NVS 440 - 128 MB Radeon HD 4350 - 512 MB GDDR2 Redeon HD 4350 - 1GB DDR2 ASUS EAH 4350 Silent 1GB DDR2 But the performance wise there has been no difference - even a drop in performance. So, what is the purpose of these external graphics cards? Really it will reduce the CPU usage? What parameters have to check, if we want to reduce the CPU usage?

• Sporadic disk clicking sound

  Hi, I'm having some unusual and sporadic hard disk clicking issues. Here is a cronological description of the facts. I'm using an ASUS P6T-SE with Intel Core i7, 6Gb RAM 600W Power supply and ATI4670 graphics, running Ubuntu 10.10. About one month ago my hard disk (SATA II Seagate Barracuda 1Tb 7200 rpm) started making a clicking sound: a sort of loud tic-tac, every second or so, when involved in disk activity. The system was clearly slower than before at disk access, but it was functional and I could not find any signal of trouble on the linux logs. I disconnected the disk and tried an older SATA drive I had around: no problem with it. Then I reconnected the Seagate disk, and the problem was mysteriously gone. Ubuntu booted normally, usual speed, no clicking. A couple of weeks later, the problem reappeared. I tried disconnecting reconnecting (as it somehow solved the problem before) without luck. So, despite it was a rather new drive, I assumed it was a hardware issue, made backups and bought a new drive. The new drive is a SATA II Seagate Barracuda 1.5 Tb 7200 rpm. I installed both drives at the same time, with the intention of transferring my files from on to the other. To my surprise, when I booted the computer with both drives, both started making the clicking sound !! Even worse, I removed the old drive, leaving the unformated new drive connected, and booted from a LiveCD. It kept clicking ! Puzzled by this, I tried both drives on my laptop with a SATA to USB cable. At the moment I connected any of them, they made one or two unusual clicks and immediately stopped doing that and worked normally. The old drive I thought almost dead, was working like a charm as if nothing happened. Then I thought: "ok, it must be the motherboard. Let's try again". So, I reconnected the old drive to the ASUS P6T motherboard (the same cables and SATA port as before), and it worked as if nothing happened ! The problem was gone again. The new 1.5 Tb drive was also working ok: No clicking nor slowdown. So I left the old 1Tb disk connected and kept using the computer daily during 3 weeks, until today it happened again. Now I don't really know what to do or check. I'm not even sure if it is a hardware issue any more ! This is rather annoying as it seems it happens with a period of 2 or 3 weeks and I have no means of forcing it to happen. Does anyone have a clue of what can causes this behaviour or have any suggestions of things I should check when it happens again ? What I did today is checking some SMART parameters Error log: smartctl -l error /dev/sda. No errors Short selftest: smartctl -t short /dev/sda.
