  • How do I program a hyperlink to include a username and password to the target site?

    We have a website with a section restricted to members only. They log in and can view the website. Some of the information is stored on another server. We want that information to ONLY be accessible to those who have logged into the main website. What would be the best way to link the two sites, without making members log in again? Seems like there must be some way to send an encrypted username and password along with the URL in the hyperlink. Any ideas? Thank you in advance. Fred G.

    Hello Community, I need to send data from an Air application, using a certificate. This certificate is to be provided by the user through a USB Key. I've got a lot of questions regarding this. Is it possible to do what I'm looking for? If yes, is it possible to do that only with the Flex/Air sdk or should I use Java or some other language to load the certificate?   • Reboot windows machines at a certain time of day and automatically login with Python

    I know how to reboot machines remotely, so that's the easy part. However, the complexity of the issue is trying to setup the following. I'd like to control machines on a network for after-hours use such that when users logoff and go home, or shutdown their computers, whatever, python or some combination of python + windows could restart their machines (for cleanliness) and automatically login, running a process for the night, then in the morning, stop said process and restart the machine so the user could easily login like normal. I've looked around, haven't had too terribly much luck, though it looks like one could do it with a changing of the registry. That sounds like a rough idea though, modifying the registry on a per-day basis. Is there an easier way?

  • Is there a secure way to add a database troubleshooting page to an application?

    My team makes a product (business management software) that our customers install on their own servers. The product uses a SQL database for data storage and app configuration. There have been quite a few cases where something strange happened in the customer's database (caused by bugs in our app and also sometimes admins who mess with the database). To figure out what is wrong with the data, we have to send SQL scripts to the customer and tell them how to run them on the database server. Then, once we know how to fix it, we have to send another script to repair the data. Is there a secure way to add a page in our application that allows an application admin to enter SQL scripts that read and write directly to the database? Our support team could use that to help customers run these scripts, without needing direct access to the SQL server. My big concerns are that someone might abuse this power to get data they shouldn't have and maybe to erase or modify data that they shouldn't be able to modify. I'm not worried about system admins, because they could find another way to do the same thing. But what if someone else got access to the form? Is there any way to do this kind of thing securely?

All the websites use ASP.NET I have a number of websites all running separate HTTP websites: www.domain1.com www.domain2.com www.domain3.com I have a separate HTTPS website www.secure.com These websites are all running on the same server. I now wish to intergrate the content of www.secure.com into each of the domains in a transparent way. Such that each website despite having its own SSL connection displays the same website. The complicatrion is www.secure.com needs to know which website the connection has come from to apply the appropriate branding. The idea behind this is to have only one website, and location, but it keeps the core website brand. https://domain1.com looks alot better from a marketing point of view (and avoids users getting confused about what our secure website is) SSL www.domain1.com/secure - displays www.secure.com (branded domain1) SSL www.domain2.com/secure - displays www.secure.com (branded domain2) SSL www.domain3.com/secure - displays www.secure.com (branded domain3) How would the best way of achieving this, i'm open to using additional software if necessery. Would a reverse proxy be sutible for this situation?

  • What is the difference betweeen "Network install" and "Network Boot" options in virt-manager when installing a new virtual machine

    From my understanding of PXE (Preboot Execution Environment), I know that there must be some negotiation first between the booting client and a DHCP server to obtain network parameters (IP address, etc) in order for the client to be able to fetch the boot loader and kernel image from the boot server. In other words, and aside from being a "virtual" machine, we're talking here about a "bare metal" machine, so there must be some "pre boot" mechanism for those negotiations to take place, and this is exactly what PXE is all about. When I think about the "Network install" option, I can't figure out how the new VM would be able to fetch the boot images (bootloader and kernel) without the previously mentioned mechanism. So, here is a short version of the question: When provisioning a new virtul machine, how do you expect the "Network install" option in virt-manager to work behind the scenes? Many thanks.

    I have a need to start an application on bootup on the linux console and I do not have a need for any type of login or security. I do not need any ALT-F1,F2,etc virtual consoles but I would like to allow SSH access via the network port for debugging, loading, etc. The application is a SDL graphics program running with fbcon as the SDL_VIDEODRIVER if that matters. I'm currently using Fedora 10 and 12 but any distro that supports SDL using the fbcon framebuffer would be acceptable.

  • Trying to install Windows 7 on Samsung 530u3c. Laptop won't boot

    I just bought a Samsung 530u3c with Windows 8 installed,so it's a week old. From day one, I have wanted to revert back to Windows 7. So I have created a USB bootable drive with Windows 7 on, and tried installing it both on the SSD 24GB drive and the 465GB SATA HDD. The laptop will not boot from either drive. After trying to boot once, the laptop reboots and then presents me with a boot menu that only shows the SATA HDD. Selecting it does nothing. So I'm losing my mind here. I have absolutely no clue on how to solve this. I'm starting to think i just threw away 700 Euros... :( Any thoughts on what my next steps should be in troubleshooting the issue? Installation goes through without problems. All files are copied. By the time the laptop needs to restart, it goes into a boot loop.

    Hi, I've got a .net 3.5 vs2008 Excel addin. I've created an installer for it and have it working apart from the fact that I cant get an option in the prerequisites for VSTO 3.0 SP1. I have one for VSTO 3.0 and when I check the C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft SDKs\Windows\v6.0A\Bootstrapper\Packages\VSTOR30 directory it has vstor30.exe vstor30sp1-KB949258-x86.exe product.xml "en" directory. However when I build the installer only the vstor.exe file gets copied over to the bin directory. I need vstor3.0sp1 for the addin to work. If I manually install vstor sp1 then everything works fine.

  • How long do managed gigabit ethernet switches take to boot up?

    One critical drawback that I have found in researching managed-switches, and one that I have some past experience with is that anything with "lots" of firmware is going to have lots of issues associated with that firmware. We are in the middle of researching rackmount gigabit switches (48 port). It looks like for 48 ports, our only choice is managed switches (Dell, Cisco/Linksys,HP, etc). What I want to know, that I can not find out much about is the boot-time for various managed switches. If you own one, can you please answer with the model number, and the cold boot time in seconds. I have read online that Linksys (now Cisco) SRW series sometimes take almost 5 minutes before they are fully booted up, and that is an unacceptable cost for us. I particularly want to know about Dell PowerConnect managed switch bootup time (model 3548 and 5448), and would like to confirm the 5-minute boot time on the SRW2048 or similar model, and any HP ProCurve boot up times. The composite of all those figures ought to form an interesting overall performance picture.

  • Simple startup on boot of misc application (Java based) on Ubuntu Linux 8+ as a daemon

    What is the easiest way to have an application launch at startup on Ubuntu server as daemon? This is a java application (java com.run.run.Run) etc. How would I have it launch as a user and possibly have access to write to some log file where the user has permissions to write?     Laptop: HP Compaq 6710b I can boot from usb just fine with the following usb flash drives: Cruzer micro 4GB HP 4GB The flash drive that will not boot: Flash Voyager 8GB To knock out variables I did the following: Using Hard Disk Low Level Format Tool I performed a low level format Full erase with Flash Memory Tookit In windows 7 I formated the drive to fat32 Used USB-Boot-Tester to write to the drive Also used uNetbooting with various distros to see if that would make a difference My guesses on what could be preventing the drive from booting: The laptop does not support booting to usb flash drives larger than 4GB The drive is defective in some way

  • Can I format a USB key in GUID mode in windows 7 to make it Mac OSX boot friendly?

    I have a macbookpro that wont boot properly. I've tried resetting the PRAM (holding down option - alt - P - R), but it doesn't work, it gets halfway through the boot process and says "You need to restart your computer" in several languages. Recently I downloaded a USB Key compatible Linux OS. This USB Key works as a boot loader on Windows machines, but on OSX it can only find the Harddrive partitions when I go into the boot loader menu (holding down Option on startup). I am assuming it is because it is formatted as FAT32, and not GUID Table. I believe my CD drive is also bust, it hasn't worked in a long time. I don't have another Mac computer, so is there a way I can format the USB key as GUID Partition from a windows 7 machine?

  • Will Windows 7 setup overwrite Windows 8 and Ubuntu boot records?

    I have Windows 8 and Ubuntu installed, both an the same physical hd (2 partitions). Windows 8 was installed after a format, Ubuntu afterwards. I used EasyBCD to setup the boot records and the boot menu order. I want to install Windows 7 as a third operating system and just add its boot record with EasyBCD. Will there be any unwanted behavior when I install it on a third partition? I already have 100 GB of unallocated space on the disk, though have not yet made the partition. I red on this site that I should install the oldest OS first, but than I would have to do a format and start again from scratch (which I clearly do not want to do). edit: On this site, the opposite is claimed, saying it's also possible to install Windows 7 after Windows 8. However, it will restore a Windows 7 boot menu instead one of Windows 8.

  • How can I duplicate HBCD's XP boot loader with my MBR?

    I'm stumped. I'm migrating a Win XP Lenovo T500 to an SSD: I copied the XP partition using EaseUS to the SSD. Aligned the boot sector using Gparted The MBR needs to be rebuilt (fair enough) However, all attempts to use the Windows Recovery console hang (both via a boot CD and even when the console was installed as a boot option). I've tried using a bunch of tools to rebuild/replace the MBR, but no dice. They all say the MBR has been fixed, but I cannot load Windows from the SSD. The HBCD's boot from windows option works just fine however. I'm confused as to what HBCD can do that my drive can't. How can I get that functionality on my SSD? Is it a MBR fix I can mirror? The SSD is extremely fast when I do use HBCD to boot up... but it would be nice to not need a token-based access to the machine! :) Note: I know, windows 7 may be worth a fresh install, but I'm trying to avoid the cost and hassle if possible.
