• Unable to sign in. How to debug?

  I had to reboot system with reset button. After reboot I can't sign in. When I enter my password It seems like X-server just restarts. I can sing in as guest and also I can sign in in text TTY.   Almost in any project I work on, some issues with .htaccess occur. I usually just find the easiest solution and leave it because I don't have any knowledge or understanding for Apache, servers etc. But this time I thought I would ask you guys. This is the files and folders in my (simplified) setup: /modrewrite-test .htaccess /config /inc /lib /public_html .htaccess /cms /navigation index.php edit.php /pages index.php edit.php login.php page.php The "config", "inc" and "lib" folders are meant to be "hidden" from the root of the website. I try to accomplish this by making a .htaccess-file in the root that redirects the user to "public_html". The .htacess-file contains this: RewriteEngine On RewriteRule (.*) public_html/$1 This works perfect. If I type "http://localhost/modrewrite-test/login.php" in my browser, I end up in public_html/login.php which is my intention. So this works fine. The .htaccess-file in "public_html" contains this: RewriteEngine On # Root RewriteRule ^$ page.php [L] # Login RewriteRule ^(admin)|(login)\/?$ login.php [L] # Page (if not a file/directory) RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f RewriteRule ^(.*)$ page.php?url=$1 [L] The first rewrite just redirects me to public_html/page.php if I try to reach "http://localhost/modrewrite-test/". The next rewrite is just for the convenience of users trying to log in - so if they try to reach "http://localhost/modrewrite-test/admin" or "http://localhost/modrewrite-test/login" they will end up at the login.php-file. The third and last rewrite handles the rest of the requests. If I try to reach "http://localhost/modrewrite-test/bla/bla/bla" it will just redirect me to public_html/page.php (with the 'url' GET-variable set) instead of finding a folder called "la", containing a folder named "bla" and etc. All of these things work perfect but a minor issues occurs when I for instance try to reach "http://localhost/modrewrite-test/cms/navigation" without a slash at the end of the URL. When I try to reach that page the browser is somehow redirected to "http://localhost/modrewrite-test/public_html/cms/navigation/". The correct page is shown but why does it get redirected and add the "public_html" part in the URL? The desired behavior is that the URL stays intact and that the page public_html/cms/navigation/index.php is shown. I want to redirect the following URL: /cms/index.php?cat_id=2 to the following URL: /flash-chromatography The rule I currently have is as follows: RewriteCond %{QUERY_STRING} ^cat_id=2$ [NC] RewriteRule ^cms/index\.php$ /flash-chromatography [L,R=301] This rule is almost perfect apart from it redirect the URL to the following: /flash-chromatography?cat_id=2 So you see my problem is it has kept the ?cat_id=2 part when I don't want it to. How do I stop it keeping this bit?

• How can I structure and recode messy categorical data in R?

  I'm struggling with how to best structure categorical data that's messy, and comes from a dataset I'll need to clean. The Coding Scheme I'm analyzing data from a university science course exam. We're looking at patterns in student responses, and we developed a coding scheme to represent the kinds of things students are doing in their answers. A subset of the coding scheme is shown below. Note that within each major code (1, 2, 3) are nested non-unique sub-codes (a, b, ...). What the Raw Data Looks Like I've created an anonymized, raw subset of my actual data which you can view here. Part of my problem is that those who coded the data noticed that some students displayed multiple patterns. The coders' solution was to create enough columns (reason1, reason2, ...) to hold students with multiple patterns. That becomes important because the order (reason1, reason2) is arbitrary--two students (like student 41 and student 42 in my dataset) who correctly applied "dependency" should both register in an analysis, regardless of whether 3a appears in the reason column or the reason2 column. How Can I Best Structure Student Data? Part of my problem is that in the raw data, not all students display the same patterns, or the same number of them, in the same order. Some students may do just one thing, others may do several. So, an abstracted representation of example students might look like this: Note in the example above that student002 and student003 both are coded as "1b", although I've deliberately shown the order as different to reflect the reality of my data. My (Practical) Questions Should I concatenate reason1, reason2, ... into one column? How can I (re)code the reasons in R to reflect the multiplicity for some students? Thanks I realize this question is as much about good data conceptualization as it is about specific features of R, but I thought it would be appropriate to ask it here. I've looked at http://www.davical.org/ which is a CalDAV service built in PHP, but it has its own database and I already have the DB stuff done and just want a middle-layer services that translates, both ways, to and from my databases using my functions. • Redirect .html but not .html?with=options

  I'm currently using an .htaccess to get round a problem with a CMS, nothing major and an htaccess fix is tidy enough. I'm currently using the format... redirect 301 /pictures.html http://www.domain.com/gallery.html The problem though this causes is that the CMS uses pictures.html?vars=here to select galleries and so the redirect breaks this part of it. Is there any way I can redirect pictures.html but not when it has variables attached?
