  • Refactor custom wizard to reduce flicker

    I have implemented a custom wizard control in C# windows forms by creating a base form which has the shared components and then making child forms for each step of the process. I then have a class which hides/shows the child forms when you move from one step to another. The problem is that flickering is bad when moving between forms. Does anyone know a way to either keep this method and reduce the flicker or refactor it to make it use a single form (which should definitely reduce the flicker)?

  • How do I display alternate languages in Interface Builder? (Xcode5)

    The iOS project is using Base Localization with localizable strings set up for the Storyboard in English and German. Everything is working properly when I change the language for the simulator, but some of the text is getting truncated in German. I would like to view the German text in Interface builder so that it's easier to fix the constraints on the text labels and fields. It seems like this should just be a view setting or something, but I can't seem to find anything obvious.

    I want to perform "deep copies" of an STL container of pointers to polymorphic classes. I know about the Prototype design pattern, implemented by means of the Virtual Ctor Idiom, as explained in the C++ FAQ Lite, Item 20.8. It is simple and straightforward: struct ABC // Abstract Base Class { virtual ~ABC() {} virtual ABC * clone() = 0; }; struct D1 : public ABC { virtual D1 * clone() { return new D1( *this ); } // Covariant Return Type }; A deep copy is then: for( i = 0; i < oldVector.size(); ++i ) newVector.push_back( oldVector[i]->clone() ); Drawbacks As Andrei Alexandrescu states it: The clone() implementation must follow the same pattern in all derived classes; in spite of its repetitive structure, there is no reasonable way to automate defining the clone() member function (beyond macros, that is). Moreover, clients of ABC can possibly do something bad. (I mean, nothing prevents clients to do something bad, so, it will happen.) Better design? My question is: is there another way to make an abstract base class clonable without requiring derived classes to write clone-related code? (Helper class? Templates?) Following is my context. Hopefully, it will help understanding my question. To ensure "thread-safety", each thread must have its own copy of all operation objects contained in v -- v becomes a prototype to be deep copied in each thread.

    I happened upon this in an NHibernate class definition: public class SQLiteConfiguration : PersistenceConfiguration<SQLiteConfiguration> So this class inherits from a base class that is parameterized by... the derived class?   My head just exploded. Can someone explain what this means and how this pattern is useful? (This is NOT an NHibernate-specific question, by the way.)

  • Is there a substitute for blockproc in Matlab?

    I've been using blockproc for processing images blockwise. Unfortunately, blockproc is part of the Image Processing Toolbox, which I don't have on my personal computer. Is there a combination of functions in base Matlab that can substitute for blockproc? My initial guess was to use im2col to transform each block into columns, and then arrayfun to process each column. Then I realized that im2col is also a part of the Image Processing Toolbox, so that doesn't solve my problem.

I'm recommending my team to move the base from .net 2.0 to .net 3.5sp1 and focus and leverage from C# 3.0 but I'm facing difficulties in doing so.   • Using Action Filters for user login in Asp.NET MVC?

    I recently built a site using Asp.Net. The way I chose to implement user login is through a base 'UserAwareController' class, that all controllers extend. It contained a reference to the UserRepository, and exposed a protected GetCurrentUser() method that concrete controllers could query. The whole process felt a bit wishy-washy to me. Is Action Filters a good alternative? What are its benefits? Is there something else I might be missing?

I am able to get the database to display my data in VisualBasic but I am not sure how to get the total cost to appear in my label (lblTotalCost). I prefer doing it in VB versus writing in my access program. All I am wanting to do it multiply item_qty * Item_Cost How would I go about doing that?

  • Web development - relative URLs without duplicating files

    I have a site with index.php in the root folder, images in /img , and overview.php in /content . I have a sidebar.php file that is included in both index.php and overview.php . How should I refer to /img/image.gif if I include a link in each file? The location of image.gif changes relative to the location of the file that references it. Using /img/image.gif in sidebar.php will work in index.php, but it fails for the file located at /content/overview.php. The only solution that I can see is to either include a seperate sidebar.php in each subdirectory, or include an /img directory in every sub-directory. The best suggestion that I can find is to use the <base html tag as suggested here: Change relative link paths for included content in PHP However, in the same link, SamGoody suggests that the <base tag "is no longer properly supported in Internet Explorer, since version 7." I'd like some insight on the matter before committing to a course of action. Thanks.     Hey, I would like to write a code involving automatic selection of a best composite model using ETS as well as autoregressive models. What is the criteria I should base my selection on? Also if I'm using the auto.arima function for deducing number of AR terms and corresponding coefficients from the forecast package in R, does my input series necessarily have to be stationary? or the value for d would be automatically selected thus returning a non-stationary model?
