  Shouldn't the two patterns (/.*) and (.*) match the same string? My real question is actually: where did the "abc" go? Something funky seems to be happening inside the mod_rewrite engine... • MSI Installer error 2203; how to force permissions on installer directory?

Feel free to let me know where it best belongs.] Hi all, I'll try to bullet-point to keep it short: Background / Issue Trying to install ASP.NET MVC 3 RC on my Windows 7 machine. Uninstalled other versions of MVC (2 and 3 Beta 1). Ran the installer -- got a generic error, 2203. Log files said that it was a permissions error on C:\Windows\Installer. Checked C:\Windows\Installer -- sure enough, it's marked as read-only. I un-checked "Read-Only" in the folder properties and applied. It appears to open the dialog and apply to all files. However, when clicking properties again, the read-only box is backed to checked. Checked the security tab of the folder -- both system and the Administrators group have full access. I checked ownership -- the Administrators group is listed as an owner. Verified that I'm in the system as an Administrator (in fact, the only account in the Administrators group besides Administrator). So, what gives? Thanks in advance for any help you can provide!

• Apache2: not defined domains directing to the same virtual host

  I have Apache2 configured in a debian box with virtual hosts. I have several domains pointing to the box's IP address. The domains whose virtual hosts are configured works perfectly. But if I type in the browser a domain that is pointing to the box but whose the virtual host is not configured, I get to a random virtual host of another domain in the box. Not a random, but one of the virtual hosts (always the same) but I dunno why it is it. The correct would be that the domains that are not configured as virtual hosts return a hostname error or something, right? Does someone know how to fix the problem? • Apache2 on Raspbian: Multiviews is enabled but not working [closed]

  I recently moved webserver, from a ubuntuserver set up by my brother (I have sudo) to a rasbianserver set up by my self. On the other server multiviews worked out of the box, but on the raspbian it does not seem to work althoug it seems to be enabled out of the box there as well. What I am trying to do is to get it to find my.doma.in/mobile.php when I enter my.doma.in/mobile in the adress field. • VPS IP redirects to website instead of the IP directory? CentOs 6

  So before I started putting websites on my VPS, I could access the IP directly and it would access the html folder in the /var/www/ area. But ever since I placed websites on the VPS, I can no longer access that HTML folder, it goes to the first domain I have listed on the httpd.conf file. Is there a way I can make the IP its self look like a website in the httpd conf file? I tried to construct it like the other websites but httpd would stop working.

• Why after deleting a 110+ GB collection, my /var/lib/mongodb directory still have same size?

  I am having some troubles with MongoDB and space usage. In particular, I once used to have a large collection of about 600 million records totaling 110+ GB on disk. Recently I decided to drop it because the data was outdated, to do so I dropped the collection through rockmongo's web interface. Accordingly, rockmongo doesn't show me the collection anymore, however my disk usage hasn't changed at all. Is there any clean operation which I am not aware of, which must be run in order to synchronize the database with database files on disk? I have tried to perform a "repair" but the system complains that there's not enough space on disk ... that's because it is all used by MongoDB.

• How can I create a short cut to a directory on a Windows Phone device?

  When I plug in my Windows mobile it appears in My Computer as a portable device but the data I need regular access to is many sub directories in. Is it possible to create a shortcut or access a path on a mobile device directly? When I open the properties of the folder I want it says the location starts with "Computer\Name of Phone\Phone\". The problem is using that as a path to navigate straight to the files doesn't work. Thanks for your help.

• How do I connect a 2008 server to a 2003 server active directory?

  Our DC is running Windows Server 2003. I've just set up Windows Server 2008 and have terminal server running on it. When setting the terminal server permissions, it was able to allow a group name that was read from the domain. In the DC the new terminal server shows up as a computer in the domain. I can also log in as a user within the domain even though that user doesn't exist locally on the new server. However, when I go to set sharing permissions on the new machine it doesn't show my domain as a location. Instead it is only looking at location "machinename" and not allowing domain to be seen or added. Is there something I'm missing? Ok, lots of errors in the event log. We have this: The winlogon notification subscriber is taking long time to handle the notification event (Logon). Followed by this: The winlogon notification subscriber took 121 second(s) to handle the notification event (Logon). Followed by: The processing of Group Policy failed because of lack of network connectivity to a domain controller. This may be a transient condition. A success message would be generated once the machine gets connected to the domain controller and Group Policy has succesfully processed. If you do not see a success message for several hours, then contact your administrator. I think this might be the same problem I'm having http://serverfault.com/questions/24420/primary-domain-controller-slow Solved. The issue was that I had changed from DHCP to static and put the wrong DNS server IP in. i.e. firewall instead of DC/DNS server.

• At what point does Active Directory and Domain Services become necessary? [closed]

  I see time and time again such services running in a business environment with only 10 users. Everyone in the office authenticates with the DC and interacts with a shared drive where files and documents are stored. I can't help but think...reeeeealy? But I don't know, that's why I'm asking. To me it seems like you need to reach a certain threshold of size and needs before you throw a DC into the mix. ie: a 20+ user business (and growing) with permission requirements that separate the sales team from accounting. Thoughts?

• small IIS web farm-create an Active Directory domain or no?

  We have a smallish web farm of < 5 Windows 2008 servers. Some do data, most do IIS hosting. Is it a good/bad idea to set up a domain controller and put all in the same "production" domain? We want to avoid a world where we have to sync multiple admin passwords between the boxes (or share admin credentials among the team). Presumably, the DC would be just another VM, so hardware cost doesn't enter into the discussion.

• Running WordPress and Ghost on Apache with mod_proxy

  I currently have three WordPress sites hosted on Apache with virtual host files to direct the right domain to the right DocumentRoot. Ghost (node.js) just came out and I've wanted to tinker with it and just play around on one of my spare domains. I'm not really interested in moving over to nginx so I'm trying to get Ghost working on Apache via mod_proxy. I've managed to get Ghost working on my spare domain, but I think there's a problem with my virtual host files, as all of my other domains start pointing to Ghost as well. Here are two virtual host files, one for my main WordPress site that works fine, and the second for Ghost. Domains removed and replaced with DOMAIN and DOMAIN2.   Let us say I have two subdomains: http://content.mydomain.com and http://app.mydomain.com. http://content.mydomain.com is pointing at a different server than http://app.mydomain.com is. Is there a way to get a url of http://app.domain/content to point to http://content.mydomain.com without the url in the browser changing to the subdomain? I am trying to get this to work in IIS 7 / 6 and am having issues. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

  Hello, I am trying to deploy an app to a fresh Ubuntu 10 installation using Passenger 2.2.15, Rails 2.3.5, Ruby 1.8.7, and Apache 2.2.14. However, even with a default rails app (sudo rails defaultapp), I am receiving the following error: "no such file to load -- initializer". I'm not sure which files you might need copies of in order to diagnose this problem, so I'll copy a few here and hope that it will help.   I deleted a Public Queue from my local box this morning and then went to recreate the queue. When I go to recreate it I get the message: Error: A queue with the same path name already exists From research it appears that the queue gets replicated in the AD and sometimes it doesn't delete. So now the AD admin has to delete this for me, but they don't seem to understand. So how can I get past this error?

• How to move or delete files from a folder containing 2 million files on an NTFS drive?

  The issue is that any modification to the directory locks up Explorer indefinitely, though Samba access to other directories still works. I've tried moving files locally and over Samba. Even enumerating the directory to get the list of files locks up the computer indefinitely. I tried using Python's win32file.FindFilesIterator to iterate the files but that also hangs. My idea was to move each file to a different directory (in a directory above the directory we're dealing with) based on its timestamp, so that we'd have at most a thousand or so files in each directory... But since I can't even enumerate the files, that's been a non-starter. If I have to give up and just nuke the directory I'm willing to do that, but a standard delete also hangs indefinitely. I have set these two parameters to increase speed and they also did not help the issue: R:\>fsutil behavior query disablelastaccess disablelastaccess = 1 R:\>fsutil behavior query disable8dot3 disable8dot3 = 1 These are all sequential images that would have run into the 'bug' with 8.3 filenames whereby many similarly named files in one directory can take a long time to compute 8.3 filenames. From what I understand this data is stored in the file system even after disable8dot3 is enabled, so it may still be contributing to the problem. Any ideas?
