  • Searching for a semantic syntax highlighter in Javascript

    - by Boldewyn
    OK, I know, there are literally dozens of already available syntax highlighters out there. But I want one specifically, that implements line numbers through <ol/> lists. And that reduces the number of possible candidates to one, Lighter.js. Unfortunately, that is MooTools based, and since I decided some time ago to use jQuery, I don't want to embed yet another library just for syntax highlighting. The SyntaxHighlighter does something similar, but uses tables for the line numbering, and I don't want to hack it, if there is an already available tool, too.

  • javascript trying to get 3rd nested array.length and value

    - by adardesign
    How can i get the 3rd nested array (in this case the array starting with "yellow") the array looks like this: [ ["Large", ["yellow", "green", "Blue"], ["$55.00", "$55.00", "$55.00"] ["Medium", ["yellow", "green", "Blue", "Red"], ["$55.00", "$55.00", "$55.00", "$55.00"] ] ["small", ["yellow", "green", "Blue", "Red"], ["$55.00", "$55.00", "$55.00", "$55.00"] ] ] I am trying to get to the ["yellow", "green", "Blue"] array's length and loop to get the values for(i=0; colorNSize.dataArray[0][0][1].length<i; i++){ alert(colorNSize.dataArray[colorNSize.Sizeindex][0][0][i])// alert's nothing } It actually alerts the length of "Large" which is "5" is there a limit for nested arrays? Can this be done?

  • how to remove dynamically loaded images in javascript

    - by jesse
    I'm loading in 3 images (named 1.jpg, 2.jpg, 3jpg) dynamically to 3 divs called "div1", "div2" and "div3". function loadImages() { for (var i = 1; i < 3; i++ ) { var img = document.createElement("img"); img.src = "vegetables/"+i+".jpg"; img.id = "a"+i+""; var divName = "div"+i+""; document.getElementById(divName).appendChild(img); } } That works, but the removing part I can't seem to get to work.. function removeImages() { for (var i = 1; i < 3; i++ ) { var oldImages = "a"+i+""; var divName = "div"+i+""; document.getElementById(divName).removeChild(oldImages); } } Thank you.

  • Javascript onunload form submit isn't submitting data

    - by Kevin
    I currently have form that checks if a user has unsubmitted changes when they leave the page with a function called through the onunload event. Here's the function: function saveOnExit() { var answer = confirm("You are about to leave the page. All unsaved work will be lost. Would you like to save now?"); if (answer) { document.main_form.submit(); } } And here's the form: <body onunload="saveOnExit()"> <form name="main_form" id="main_form" method="post" action="submit.php" onsubmit="saveScroll()"> <textarea name="comments"></textarea> <input type="submit" name="submit2" value="Submit!"/> </form> I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong here. The data gets submitted and saved in my database if I just press the submit button for the form. However, trying to submit the form through the onunload event doesn't result in anything being stored, from what I can tell. I've tried adding onclick alerts to the submitt button and onsubmit alerts to the form elements and I can verify that the submit button is being triggered and that the form does get submitted. However, nothing gets passed stored in the database. Any ideas as to what I'm doing wrong? Thanks.

  • JQuery or javascript to find memory usage of page

    - by Tauren
    Is there a way to find out how much memory is being used by a web page, or by my jquery application? Here's my situation: I'm building a data heavy webapp using a jquery frontend and a restful backend that serves data in JSON. The page is loaded once, and then everything happens via ajax. The UI provides users with a way to create multiple tabs within the UI, and each tab can contain lots and lots of data. I'm considering limiting the number of tabs they can create, but was thinking it would be nice to only limit them once memory usage has gone above a certain threshold.

  • Insert multiple line breaks into a JavaScript string (regex) (CodeMirror)

    - by PJH
    I have a few strings and I would like to insert some line breaks into them at certain points. I figured out a few of the logistics but as a whole I can't seem to crack this problem, probably because I have limited experience with regex. Basically I have a long string of XML tags that is all on one line. I want to add line breaks at certain points to get the data more formatted and looking nice. I am using CodeMirror to display this data on a webpage but for some reason its all on line #1. So I need to go from something like this: <Sample><Name></Name><PhoneNumber><AreaCode></AreaCode><Number></Number></PhoneNumber></Sample> To something like this: <Sample> <Name></Name> <PhoneNumber> <AreaCode></AreaCode> <Number></Number> </PhoneNumber> </Sample> CodeMirror will take care of the rest of the formatting all I need to do is insert the line breaks in the right spot using regex or a loop of some sort. The Tags will or can change so I am guessing regex has to be used. I have had success inserting line breaks with \n and &#xD but can't seem to get regex to detect the proper locations. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. UPDATE I overlooked this but the brackets are in fact being sent as < and > So example tag would look like: &lt;PhoneNumber&gt; or &lt;/PhoneNumber&gt; So basically need to insert a \n after every &gt; that is a closing tag or a beginning tag that contains children tags.

  • Trouble Shoot JavaScript Function in IE

    - by CreativeNotice
    So this function works fine in geko and webkit browsers, but not IE7. I've busted my brain trying to spot the issue. Anything stick out for you? Basic premise is you pass in a data object (in this case a response from jQuery's $.getJSON) we check for a response code, set the notification's class, append a layer and show it to the user. Then reverse the process after a time limit. function userNotice(data){ // change class based on error code returned var myClass = ''; if(data.code == 200){ myClass='success'; } else if(data.code == 400){ myClass='error'; } else{ myClass='notice'; } // create message html, add to DOM, FadeIn var myNotice = '<div id="notice" class="ajaxMsg '+myClass+'">'+data.msg+'</div>'; $("body").append(myNotice); $("#notice").fadeIn('fast'); // fadeout and remove from DOM after delay var t = setTimeout(function(){ $("#notice").fadeOut('slow',function(){ $(this).remove(); }); },5000); }

  • Screen scrape a web page that uses javaScript and frames

    - by Mello
    Hi, I want to scrape data from www.marktplaats.nl . I want to analyze the scraped description, price, date and views in Excel/Access. I tried to scrape data with Ruby (nokogiri, scrapi) but nothing worked. (on other sites it worked well) The main problem is that for example selectorgadget and the add-on firebug (Firefox) don’t find any css I can use to scrape the page. On other sites I can extract the css with selectorgadget or firebug and use it with nokogiri or scrapi. Due to lack of experience it is difficult to identify the problem and therefore searching for a solution isn’t easy. Can you tell me where to start solving this problem and where I maybe can find more info about a similar scraping process? Thanks in advance!

  • Using code in both Actionscript3 and Javascript

    - by Ian
    Here's an interesting architectural query. I have a piece of code that needs to run on the server (under Node.js) and on the client (in a Flash 10 app written with Actionscript 3). The code is mostly fairly intricate object manipulation, it doesn't make any API calls, and works fine in both contexts. So far the project is just a demo, so I've been happy to copy and paste the code into both places. But it might be quite interesting to move forward with this. So how would you do it? I assume there is no easy way to get the Flash SDK (has to build without an IDE) to read and do something useful with a .js file. My only thought is that I could write a code-generator that takes the .js file and places it in an ActionScript wrapper. Are there any obvious approaches that I've missed? Just to pre-empt an obvious answer, I know about cross-platform languages like HaXe.

  • Objects in JavaScript defined and undefined at the same time (in a FireFox extension)

    - by Alexey Romanov
    I am chasing down a bug in a FireFox extension. I've finally managed to see it for myself (I've only had reports before) and I can't understand how what I saw is possible. One error message from my extension in the Error Console is "gBrowser is not defined". This by itself would be surprising enough, since the overlay is over browser.xul and navigator.xul, and I expect gBrowser to be available from both. Even worse is the actual place where it happens: line 101 of nextplease.js. That is, inside the function isTopLevelDocument, which is only called from onContentLoaded, which is only called from onLoad here: gBrowser.addEventListener(this.loadType, function (event) { nextplease.loadListener.onContentLoaded(event); }, true); So gBrowser is defined in onLoad, but somehow undefined in isTopLevelDocument. When I tried to actually use the extension, I got another error: "nextplease is not defined". The interesting thing is that it happened on lines 853 and 857. That is, inside the functions nextplease.getNextLink = function () { nextplease.getLink(window.content, nextplease.NextPhrasesMap, nextplease.NextImagesMap, nextplease.isNextRegExp, nextplease.NEXT_SEARCH_TYPE); } nextplease.getPrevLink = function () { nextplease.getLink(window.content, nextplease.PrevPhrasesMap, nextplease.PrevImagesMap, nextplease.isPrevRegExp, nextplease.PREV_SEARCH_TYPE); } So nextplease is somehow defined enough to call these functions, but isn't defined inside them. Finally, executing typeof(nextplease) in Execute JS returns "object". Same for gBrowser. How can this happen? Any ideas?

  • Finding the closest grid coordinate to the mouse position with javascript/jQuery

    - by Acorn
    What I'm trying to do is make a grid of invisible coordinates on the page equally spaced. I then want a <div> to be placed at whatever grid coordinate is closest to the pointer when onclick is triggered. Here's the rough idea: I have the tracking of the mouse coordinates and the placing of the <div> worked out fine. What I'm stuck with is how to approach the problem of the grid of coordinates. First of all, should I have all my coordinates in an array which I then compare my onclick coordinate to? Or seeing as my grid coordinates follow a rule, could I do something like finding out which coordinate that is a multiple of whatever my spacing is is closest to the onclick coordinate? And then, where do I start with working out which grid point coordinate is closest? What's the best way of going about it? Thanks!

  • Update time descriptions every minute using jquery/javascript

    - by Amy Neville
    I have created the following code to update the text contents of all spans like this every minute. There are numerous of these spans on the page which all need to be updated every minute: <span unix="1372263005" class="time_ago">4 minutes ago</span> The code is as follows: window.setInterval(function(){ var unix = $(".time_ago").text(); var now = new Date().getTime(); var amount = 0; var difference = 0; difference = now - parseInt(unix); if (difference < 60) { $(".time_ago").text('<span unix="' + unix + '" class="time_ago">a few seconds ago</span>'); } else if (difference < 120) { $(".time_ago").text('<span unix="' + unix + '" class="time_ago">a minute ago</span>'); } else if (difference < 3600) { amount = floor(difference / 60); $(".time_ago").text('<span unix="' + unix + '" class="time_ago">' + amount + ' minutes ago</span>'); } else if (difference < 7200) { $(".time_ago").text('<span unix="' + unix + '" class="time_ago">an hour ago</span>'); } else if (difference < 86400) { amount = floor(difference / 3600); $(".time_ago").text('<span unix="' + unix + '" class="time_ago">' + amount + ' hours ago</span>'); } else if (difference < 172800) { $(".time_ago").text('<span unix="' + unix + '" class="time_ago">a day ago</span>'); } else if (difference < 2635200) { amount = floor(difference / 86400); $(".time_ago").text('<span unix="' + unix + '" class="time_ago">' + amount + ' days ago</span>'); } else if (difference < 5270400) { $(".time_ago").text('<span unix="' + unix + '" class="time_ago">a month ago</span>'); } else if (difference < 31622400) { amount = floor(difference / 2635200); $(".time_ago").text('<span unix="' + unix + '" class="time_ago">' + amount + ' months ago</span>'); } else if (difference < 63244800) { $(".time_ago").text('<span unix="' + unix + '" class="time_ago">a year ago</span>'); } else (difference >= 63244800) { amount = floor(difference / 31622400); $(".time_ago").text('<span unix="' + unix + '" class="time_ago">' + amount + ' years ago</span>'); } return false; }, 60); EDIT) Ok, now I have made some changes on your advice but it's changing the span texts to 43351 years. Any ideas why it is doing that?

  • Javascript : Submitting a form outside the actual form doesn't work

    - by Ben Fransen
    Hello all, I'm trying to achieve a fairly easy triggering mechanism for deleting multiple items from a tablegrid. If a user has enough access he/she is able to delete multiple users from a table. In the table I have set up checkboxes, one per row/user. The name of the checkboxes is UsersToDeletep[], and the value per row is the unique UserID. When a user clicks the button 'Delete selected users' a simple validation takes place to make sure at least one checkbox is selected. After that I call my simple function Submit(form). The function works perfectly when called within the form-tags, where I also use it to delete a single user. The function: function Submit(form) { document.forms[form].submit(); } I've also alerted document.forms[form]. The result is, as expected [object HTMLFormElement]. But for some reason the form just won't submit and a pagereload takes place. I'm a bit confused and can't seem to figure out what I'm doing wrong. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Thanks in advance! Ben

  • Dynamically adding values to a form with JQuery/Javascript

    - by bigstylee
    I am creating a private message system to allow users to communicate between one another within the context of the website (ie, not emails). I have created this function to handle all my form submissions. I would like to achieve a solution without modifying this function (ideally). $("form.reload").submit(function(){ alert($(this).serialize()); /* Debugging */ $.post($(this).attr("action"), $(this).serialize() ,function(data){ if(data){ $("#error").html(data); }else{ location.reload(); }; }); return false; }); Within my form I am using JQuery Autocomplete to find usernames. This function works perfectly. My first solution was to add buttons within the form with the necessary values. select: function(event, ui) { $("#message_to").append("<input type=\"button\" class=\"recipient\" name=\"recipients[]\" value=\"" + ui.item.label + "\" onclick=\"$(this).remove()\" />"); } <form method="post" action="/messages-create"> <div id="message_to"></div> </div> For some reason the values of recipients are not getting posted. My second solution was to add to a post array that already existed in the form select: function(event, ui) { $(input[name=recipeients[]).val = ui.item.label; /* Need to add to array, not replace! */ $("#message_to").append("<input type=\"button\" class=\"recipient\" name=\"recipient\" value=\"" + ui.item.label + "\" onclick=\"$(this).remove(); /* Remove from recipients */\" />"); } <form method="post" action="/messages-create" class="reload"> <input type="hidden" name="recipients[]" value="" /> <div id="message_to"></div> </div> This works ok, but I have been unable to work out how to append to the recipients[] array only replace with the new label. Moving on from this, I also need to know how to then remove this value from the array. Thanks in advance!

  • Using Javascript to flip flop a textbox's readonly flag

    - by Velika
    I have a frame with several radio buttons where the user is supposed to select the "Category" that his Occupation falls into and then unconditionally also specify his occupation. If the user selects "Retired", the requirement is to prefill "Retired" in the "Specify Occupation" text box and to disable it to prevent it from being changed. The Specify Occupation text box should also no longer be a tab stop. If the user selects a radio button other than Retired the Specify Occupation text box should be enabled and once again in the normal tab sequence. Originally, I was setting and clearing the disabled property on the Specify occupation textbox, then I found out that, upon submitting the form, disabled fields are excluded from the submit and the REQUIRED validator on the Specify Occupation textbox was being raised because the textbox was being blanked out. What is the best way to solve this? My approach below was to mimic a disabled text box by setting/resetting the readonly attribute on the text box and changing the background color to make it appear disabled. (I suppose I should be changing the forecolor instead of teh background color). Nevertheless, my code to make the textbox readonly and to reset it doesn't appear to be working. function OccupationOnClick(sender) { debugger; var optOccupationRetired = document.getElementById("<%= optOccupationRetired.ClientId %>"); var txtSpecifyOccupation = document.getElementById("<%= txtSpecifyOccupation.ClientId %>"); var optOccupationOther = document.getElementById("<%= optOccupationOther.ClientId %>"); if (sender == optOccupationRetired) { txtSpecifyOccupation.value = "Retired" txtSpecifyOccupation.readonly = "readonly"; txtSpecifyOccupation.style.backgroundColor = "#E0E0E0"; txtSpecifyOccupation.tabIndex = -1; } else { if (txtSpecifyOccupation.value == "Retired") txtSpecifyOccupation.value = ""; txtSpecifyOccupation.style.backgroundColor = "#FFFFFF"; txtSpecifyOccupation.readonly = ""; txtSpecifyOccupation.tabIndex = 0; } } Can someone provide a suggest for the best way to handle this scenario and porovide a tweek to the code above to fix the setting/resetting on the readonly property?

  • Passing additional arguments into the OnClick event handler of a LinkButton using Javascript

    - by Jens Ameskamp
    Hi! I have a ASP.NET Website, where, in a GridView item template, automatically populated by a LinqDataSource, there is a LinkButton defined as follows: <asp:LinkButton ID="RemoveLinkButton" runat="server" CommandName="Remove" CommandArgument='<%# DataBinder.GetPropertyValue(GetDataItem(), "Id")%>' OnCommand="removeVeto_OnClick" OnClientClick='return confirm("Are you sure?");' Text="Remove Entry" /> This works fine. Whenever the Button is Clicked, a confirmation dialog is displayed. What I am trying to do now, is to allow the user to enter a reason for the removal, and pass this on the the OnClick event handler. How would I do this? I tried OnClientClick='return prompt("Enter your reason!");', but, of course, that did not work =)

  • Stupid problem with Javascript calculations and postbacks

    - by rockinthesixstring
    I'm working on an ASP.NET web app where I'm using a Wizard to take the client through a large series of steps. One of the steps includes calculating a bunch of numbers on the fly... the numbers calculate properly but when I click "next" and then go back again... some of the numbers are not retained. Here is the calculation function function CalculateFields() { txtSellingPrice = document.getElementById('<%=txtSellingPrice.ClientID %>'); txtBalanceSheet = document.getElementById('<%=txtBalanceSheet.ClientID %>'); txtDownPayment = document.getElementById('<%=txtDownPayment.ClientID %>'); txtSusEarn = document.getElementById('<%=txtSusEarn.ClientID %>'); txtSusRev = document.getElementById('<%=txtSusRev.ClientID %>'); txtBalanceMult = document.getElementById('<%=txtBalanceMult.ClientID %>'); txtGoodwillMult = document.getElementById('<%=txtGoodwillMult.ClientID %>'); txtSellingPriceMult = document.getElementById('<%=txtSellingPriceMult.ClientID %>'); txtGoodWill = document.getElementById('<%=txtGoodWill.ClientID %>'); txtBalance = document.getElementById('<%=txtBalance.ClientID %>'); chkTakeBack = document.getElementById('<%=chkTakeBack.ClientID %>'); txtVendorTakeBackPercentage = document.getElementById('<%=txtVendorTakeBackPercentage.ClientID %>'); txtSusEarnPercentage = document.getElementById('<%=txtSusEarnPercentage.ClientID %>'); txtBalanceMultPercentage = document.getElementById('<%=txtBalanceMultPercentage.ClientID %>'); txtGoodwillMultPercentage = document.getElementById('<%=txtGoodwillMultPercentage.ClientID %>'); txtSellingPriceMultPercentage = document.getElementById('<%=txtSellingPriceMultPercentage.ClientID %>'); var regexp = /[$,]/g; //Empty value checks SellingPrice = (SellingPrice == "" ? "$0" : SellingPrice); BalanceSheet = (BalanceSheet == "" ? "$0" : BalanceSheet); DownPayment = (DownPayment == "" ? "$0" : DownPayment); susearn = (susearn == "" ? "$0" : susearn); susrev = (susrev == "" ? "$0" : susrev); balmult = (balmult == "" ? "$0" : balmult); goodmult = (goodmult == "" ? "$0" : goodmult); sellmult = (sellmult == "" ? If Not Page.IsPostBack Then txtSellingPrice.Attributes.Add("onkeyup", "CalculateFields()") txtBalanceSheet.Attributes.Add("onkeyup", "CalculateFields()") txtDownPayment.Attributes.Add("onkeyup", "CalculateFields()") txtSusRev.Attributes.Add("onkeyup", "CalculateFields()") txtSusEarn.Attributes.Add("onkeyup", "CalculateFields()") End If any thoughts/help/direction would be greatly appreciated.
