  Hi guys, I'm pushing data from as3 to MSQL through a little php script! My problem is that all my accentuated characters are displayed as weird iso characters. • Scheme Formatting Help

  I've been working on a project for school that takes functions from a class file and turns them into object/classes. The assignment is all about object oriented programming in scheme. My problem however is that my code doesn't format right. The output it gives me whenever I give it a file to pass in wraps the methods of the class in a list, making it so that the class never really gets declared. I can't for the life of me figure out how to get the parenthesis wrapping the method list to remove. I would really appreciate any help. • How bad is it to use display: none in CSS?

  I've heard many times that it's bad to use display: none for SEO reasons, as it could be an attempt to push in irrelevant popular keywords. A few questions: Is that still received wisdom? Does it make a difference if you're only hiding a single word, or perhaps a single character? If you should avoid any use of it, what are the preferred techniques for hiding (in situations where you need it to become visible again on certain conditions)? Some references I've found so far: Matt Cutts from 2005 in a comment If you're straight-out using CSS to hide text, don't be surprised if that is called spam. I'm not saying that mouseovers or DHTML text or have-a-logo-but-also-have-text is spam; I answered that last one at a conference when I said "imagine how it would look to a visitor, a competitor, or someone checking out a spam report. If you show your company's name and it's Expo Markers instead of an Expo Markers logo, you should be fine. • How to share two keyboard on the same laptop, french iso layout and usa ansi layout keyboard with usb?

  I recently buy a "noppoo choc mini" with this specific ANSI US-INTERNATIONAL pc84 layout. This specific keyboard have only 84 key , a 60% (compact tenkeyless) reduced layout My problem is simple, there is no keyboard layout into Ubuntu 12.04 which correspond to this usa normal ansi layout ... so it's the same problem with reduced version and only 84 key .. I search a template of normal ANSI US-INTERNATIONAL for xmodmap/xkb, and after i can try to manually map the other key. I search on google, and i don't find any other user which have same problem, so it's seem i have not the good keywoard to search this information.. Edit 1 : Here you can see there is probably a bug in ubuntu, because the layout for USA with dead key is not correct !   First of all, I am new to Ubuntu 10.04 but it is love at first sight and the only windows I will see again are in my house and car! Each time I disconnect my Dell Studio 15 from my Dell 36" monitor, I have to reconnect through the System/Monitor protocol. Question: Is there a way to set it up so once I slide my laptop under the stand, reconnect monitor cable, 3 usb's and press start that the Monitor screen will go 'live' without having to start all over?

• How to create an Orthographic display in OpenGL (ES) that handles different screen sizes and orientations?

  I'm trying to create an iPad/iPhone game using GLES2.0 that contains a 3D scene with a heads-up-display/GUI overlaid on the top. However, this problem would also apply if I were to port my game to a computer and run the game in a resizable window, or allow the user to change screen resolutions... When trying to make the 2D GUI/HUD work I've made the assumption that all I'm really doing is drawing a load of 2D textured 'quads' on the screen and am trying to treat the orthographic projection as an old-style 2D display with 0,0 in the upper left and screenWidth,ScreenHeight in the lower right. This causes me all sorts of confusion when I rotate my ipad into Landscape mode since I can't work out what to put into my projection and modelview matrices to turn everything around the right way. It also gets messy if I want to support the iPad's large screen, an iPhone or a Retina display since I have to then draw three sets of textures for everything and work out which ones to use. Should I be trying to map the 2D OpenGL co-ords 1:1 with the screen? While typing out this question it occurs to me that I could keep my origin in the centre, still running -1/+1 along the axes. This would let me scale my 2D content appropriately on the different screen sizes, but wouldn't I end up with the textures being scaled and possibly losing quality? I'm using OpenGLES 2.0 and have a matrix library that has equivalents to the GLES1.1 glOrthof() and glFrustrum() calls.

• What does Ubuntu do when I signal undocking to a laptop?

  It seems that Ubuntu runs some script or command when I signal that I want to undock my laptop by pressing the undock button on the dock. Most visible thing that happens is that resolution on external display is changed. After prepearing for undock my laptop is still connected to power, VGA-output and audio jacks through dock but not to any usb devices or optical drive. I'm running 11.04 on a ThinkPad X61s with X6 UltraBase. What happens when I signal undocking? • Where should "display functions" live in an MVC web app?

  I'm using the Yii Framework which is an MVC php framework that is pretty similar to your standard web-based MVC framework. I want to display the related data from a many-to-many table as a list of strings in my view. Assuming a table schema like: tag { id, name } post { id, title, content, date } post_tag { post_id, tag_id } A post will display like: Date: 9/27/2012 Title: Some Title Content: blah blah blah... Tags: Smart Funny Cool Informative I can achieve this by doing something like this in my Post view: <?php echo join(' ', array_map(function($tag) { return $tag->name; }, $model->tags)); ?> (where $model->tags is an array of Tag objects associated with my model) My questions are: Is this amount of code/logic okay in the view? (Personally I think I'd rather just reference a property or call a single function.) If not, where should this code live? In the model? the controller? a helper? Potentially I may want to use in in other views as well. Ultimately I think its purely a display issue which would make me think it should be in the view, but then I have to repeat the code in any view I want to use it in.

• A very peculiar problem with an old pc and a newer laptop...

  I got my old pc ( 248mb ram , 80 GB ) repaired and the tech people put XP in it .My newer laptop has UBUNTU 10.04 .now I only have one cable and one usb cord .So I connected my modem (with only one CAT5 port and 4 usb ports ) to laptop with CAT5 cable .Th internet is working fine . I also wanted to use net on older pc so I installed the usb drivers for win and it worked. But I got fed up of win xp and made a separate partition for FreeBSD which I planned to install .During the install I screwd up sumthing and now freebsd starts with a boot option with a ? mark in place of win xp .If I click on that it gives me a "NTLDR missing " msg. I tried connecting CAT5 cable between old and new pc and tried connecting my laptop with USB cable but nothing happend and then I realozed the modem doesnt have a WORKING usb driver for LINUX :( .FCUK ! .Freebsd doesnt` even detect the LAN cable if I use it for old pc . So basically I have a old pc that has FREEBSD which I can olny start and stare at the blank terminal console but works perfectly otherwise .FREEBSD was supposed to detect the LAN cable ??.And I have a laptop that has LINUX which only works if I connect it with a CAT5 cable .wtf . So what can I do with my old pc ??? any local server (if possible :( ) or some such thing ? or can u suggest any use .Im 18 and im into learning programming , coding .So I can practice it .Thankx !

• 3 column layout with css display table, with first row having multiple rows?

  I am working on a new website which: Has 3 columns - Each Column being a cell First column has 3 rows (Logo, Nav, icons) - Has a Div with display: table which wraps arround 3 divs with display:table-row. Other two columns only have 1 row. With the middle column being the content area. However since this is my first time using display:table, I am running into some things that aren't so clear to me. I was trying to avoid floating divs. If I need multiple rows with one cell in each row per column, do I embed each cell in a row or just create each row and not declare cells. I understand that browsers automatically create the missing elements but I want to make sure I do this properly to avoid any side effects that might occur due to the browser automatically creating the missing elements. Edit: I think my brain is just over worked, I guess I can accomplish this by just using 3 divs in the first column instead of using a nested table div with the rows. This just popped into my head.

• The BitLocker encrypted logical drive of my laptop is not accessible. On clicking error appears,"Application not found"

  I had an important personal data that was stored in my laptop drive 'F'. My 4 year old son also uses my laptop to play games. To secure my data I used bitlocker software that was already there in my windows 7 ultimate 32 bit. I am using a Dell D 630 Core2Duo laptop. The thing worked fine for me and I have been able to access my data in drive 'F' as and when I required. But today, when I tried to open my 'F' drive, an error box appeared saying "Application not found". I right clicked and checked 'properties' of 'F' drive. It showed me Used Space = 0 bytes and Free Space = 0 bytes. I opened 'Disk Management' which showed my 'F' drive file system as 'Unknown (Bitlocker Encrypted). 'Disk Management' is also showing my 'F' drive as healthy logical drive. I opened 'Manage bitlocker' and found that my 'F' drive was being shown locked and 'Unlock Drive' was displayed against it, however, when i click on 'Unlock Drive', it does not function. I opened 'TPM Administration' and found an information that 'Compatible TPM cannot be found'. My bitlocker encryption was working fine which means that I had a compatible TPM in my laptop. Where has it gone? How can I enable it? Is my 'F' Drive lost forever and thus the data in there as well?

  I didn't have any errors. But When I run my lwjgl game, it gives me a blinking screen. • Why has hibernation stopped working after moving my 12.04 install to a different laptop?

  I recently got a new laptop (Thinkpad X230). I didn't really have time to do a fresh install so I copied my install (xubuntu 12.04) over from my old machine (Thinkpad X61). Now when I try to hibernate it seems to do the Hibernate step fine, but doesn't seem to try and resume when booting back up. It just does a fresh boot. Is there something I need to do so the system knows where to look for the hibernation data?

• All USB ports on my laptop are dead, any options via Ethernet, SD/MMC or HDMI?

  My son's laptop has taken alot of pain in his school over the last few months and he and his buddies have succeeded in breaking both USB ports. I've opened the box, unsoldered the USB ports, replaced them by new components but no joy - the ports seem dead. If I assume that the insertion of LEGO pieces, etc. in USB ports has rendered them unsalvageable, do I have any other options for restoring USB access to the laptop? The laptop has an ethernet port, a HDMI port and an SD/MMC port. I've trawled the web for a magic adadpter, i.e; ethernet=USB, HDMI=USB or SD/MMC=USB but to no avail. Lots of options for going the other way though. Does anyone have any ideas on the feasibility of an ethernet=USB cable? Ethernet doesn't seem to have +5V or GND so I can run a cable from the motherboard that could provide those. Amazing how many functions of a laptop just disappear when you have no USB ports.

  ok so i have a set of touch screen buttons on the top of my laptop's keyboard, (one turns on power save mode, one disables/enables the mouse touch pad, one toggles the wifi adapter, and two turns the volume up/down) however theres another one that opened a file backup utility that came with my laptop. but since i bought my laptop , ive uninstalled that utility, rendering this button useless. So i was wondering if it was possible to reprogram that button to open another file or program on my computer? And if so what are the requirements and how would i go about doing it? Apart from the clock speed, the maximum amount of RAM the motherboard can handle, the DDR type (1/2/3) and the shape of the module (DIMM for desktops, SO-DIMM for laptops)? I see that in certain cases, such as with the Kingston 4GB DDR3 1333MHz CL9, (and on the Kingston KTD-L3B/4G page) the page displays a set of laptop product numbers. Does the actual model of the laptop also influence the models of RAM it can support? Could, for instance, an Asus K52 work with that particular RAM module, even if it specifies Dell models?

• How can I repair the boot loader on my laptop?

  I had removed my HD from a Dell laptop and accessed it with an external HD port on another computer. Though after returning it to the Dell laptop, it will no longer boot. The PC came pre-installed with Windows 7 and I do not have an installation disk. None of the contents of the original install have been removed or modified. If I use another laptop running Windows 7 to create a repair/recovery disk, would I be able to use it on my Dell to repair the boot sector? How can I repair the bootmgr? • Trying to install Windows 7 on Samsung 530u3c. Laptop won't boot

  I just bought a Samsung 530u3c with Windows 8 installed,so it's a week old. From day one, I have wanted to revert back to Windows 7. So I have created a USB bootable drive with Windows 7 on, and tried installing it both on the SSD 24GB drive and the 465GB SATA HDD. The laptop will not boot from either drive. After trying to boot once, the laptop reboots and then presents me with a boot menu that only shows the SATA HDD. Selecting it does nothing. So I'm losing my mind here. I have absolutely no clue on how to solve this. I'm starting to think i just threw away 700 Euros... :( Any thoughts on what my next steps should be in troubleshooting the issue? Installation goes through without problems. All files are copied. By the time the laptop needs to restart, it goes into a boot loop.

  I have a desktop connected to the internet and to my home network through Wi-Fi, and a latptop connected to said desktop through an Ethernet cable. But Windows seems to only reach the laptop through Wi-Fi: I want to transfer files through the wired connection instead. Setting up Internet Connectin Sharing and disconnecting the laptop from Wi-Fi altogether doesn't seem like the most elegant solution to me. I also thought about going to the hosts file and setting up the IP address manually, but that would make the laptop completely unavailable if it's not wired, which happens quite often unfortunately. Is there any way for me to tell Windows to use the wired connection for a particular host if possible, and fallback to any other route it finds otherwise?

  OK, the scenario is like this... I have my laptop... and I have another user without a unit. He has only a keyboard, mouse and a monitor. Is there anyway that I can make him use my computer by creating a virtual environment which he will access, BUT, without interfering with my work. I use my laptop and view my OS from the laptop monitor. I create a virtual environment (some OS probably XP) and run it. The virtual environment is displayed in the connected monitor and the other user uses it using the extra keyboard/mouse and the monitor but without interfering my screen! Is this possible? Stupid? Futuristic? Need more hardware?

• Does adding 1066Mhz DDR3 SODIMM to a 1600Mhz FSB laptop make sense?

  My previous laptop had 4x4GB 1066 Mhz DDR3. My new laptop instead has only 2x4GB 1600 Mhz DDR3. Using dmidecode I gather my FSB is set to 2300Mhz. Max Speed: 3800 MHz Current Speed: 2300 MHz 2 questions: Can somebody confirm I can safely add two "old" 1066Mhz modules to my new laptop before I treat myself to faster DDR3 modules? I understand this should not slow down the faster 2 1600 Mhz DDR3 modules. Correct? If this is of any relevance, I'm running Linux Mint Maya.
