• How to Add a Business Card Image to a Signature in Outlook 2013 Without the vCard (.vcf) File

  When you add a business card to a signature, an image of the business card is inserted into the signature and the vCard (.vcf) file is attached. If you don’t want to attach the vCard file, you can insert the image only into your signature. To insert only the image of your business card without the .vcf file, click People on the Navigation Bar at the bottom of the Outlook window. To get a business card image we can use, we must view the contacts in any form other than People, so we can open the full contact editing window. To do this, click on a different view in the Current View section of the Home tab. We chose to view our contacts in the Business Card format. Double-click on your contact in the current view. The full contact editing window displays with an image of the business card on the right. Right-click on the business card image and select Copy Image from the popup menu. To close the contact editing window, click the File tab and click Close in the menu list on the left. NOTE: You can also click the X in the upper, right corner of the contact editing window to close it. To open the signature editor, click the File tab. Click Options in the menu list on the left side of the Account Information screen. On the Outlook Options dialog box, click Mail in the list of options on the left side of the dialog box. On the Mail screen, click Signatures in the Compose messages section. NOTE: You can also access the Signatures and Stationery dialog box from the Message window for new emails and drafts. Click New Email on the Home tab or double-click an email in the Drafts folder to access the Message window. For more information, see our article about assigning a default signature. In the signature editor, right-click and select Paste from the popup menu. The image is inserted into the signature. You can also use this method to copy a business card image for use in other documents and programs. It’s also possible to insert the vCard (.vcf) file into a signature without the image. • How to fix the “Live INT automatically logs out”

  Problem: Live INT environment automatically logs out I am trying to setup the Authentication with Windows Live ID and followed this blog post ; I have a problem logging in to live INT web site. Whenever I try to log in (https://login.live-int.com/login.srf  this is the internal Live environment to be used in a dev. environment.), after entering valid email/password I get redirected to the logout page. I tried 2 different accounts (one with existing email address, and other one with newly created @hotmail-int.com address) and 3 different browsers so I’m sure that neither account nor the browser are the cause of this. I also tried to enter wrong password, and in that case I get the message that the password is wrong. Solution: All you need is the unique ID in order to add the user to SharePoint , you can get the ID without logging into the Live INT environment. I think the Live internal environment is not working correctly for some reasons , the reason I need to login to the Live internal environment is that I need to get the unique ID for the test account so that I can add the user to SharePoint. All the blogs I have come across require you to login in order to get the unique ID. However, I figured out another way of getting the unique ID without logging in. Steps are below: Register a new test account in the Live internal environment. Go to the SharePoint site collection that has  Live ID authentication enabled and select the LiveID INT(it will be different as you could name it differently when you set up the authentication provider) from the dropdown. Try login using the Internal Live account, you will get an Access Denied Error as below showing your  unique ID for the test account. Add that account to your SharePoint Group, boom, it works. I hope it will help anyone who needs to do this stuff in the future.

• What does Visual studio debugger do, when condition should give error

  I'm debugging some code and I need to break everytime, when character in string (const char *) is equal to something. So I put there breakpoint and attach condition like: s[0] == 'e'. But code I'm debugging is in CRT and there is possibility, that s == 0 is true. So "addressing empty pointer" should give some kind of error. Yes - I could give there condition s != 0, but it would not be such fun :) And I'm curious, what will debugger do when trying to evaluate this condition? How it will behave internally? Obviously it's not giving any error nor stopping on this breakpoint when s == 0 Thanks for your answer.

• OpenWeb(String) method

  I guess this is a SharePoint beginner problem ,however it took me a while to figure out what the problem is and I will blog it to help me to remember. Basically I wrote the following code to grab some list item from my SharePoint subsite http://win-oirj50igics/RestAPI,however I got the error stating that : “<nativehr>0×80070002</nativehr><nativestack></nativestack>There is no Web named / http://win-oirj50igics/RestAPI”. The problem is that OpenWeb(String) method returns the web site that is located at the specified server-relative or site-relative URL. • How to fix “Cannot connect to the configuration database.”

  The problem: When I browse to a SharePoint site, I got the Server Error in ‘/’ Application, Cannot connect to the configuration database. The Analysis: The reason you get the message is that SharePoint WFE cannot connect to the SQL database, you need to check the weather SQL server service is started as shown below. Solution: When checking the SQL Server service, I see it is not started. After starting the service, it works like a charm.

• Cannot save all of the property settings for this Web Part.

  I would like to display all the items of custom content type of Animals in a SharePoint content query WebPart. After choosing the appropriate values in the web part editor and click on Save I got this error: Cannot save all of the property settings for this Web Part. There is a problem with one or more of the field values below. But when I examine all the values below , it does not flag any error information. I finally manage to locate the error flag after I expand the presentation section. I then delete the text in the Link textbox , now I can save the settings. However , I think the error message should have been more specific so that users can quickly locate the error. The worst part for this is that I did not even change anything in the presentation section, I merely configure the Source in the Query section. Well, I guess I am still new to SharePoint, I just have to get used to these generic error message ):

• How to find out which process actually locks your dll when SharePoint Solution deployment failed

  When your SharePoint Solution package include third party or external dlls , you will often see your solution fail to deploy due to the locking of the dlls. Today I will show you how to find which process locks your dlls using Process Explorer. 1. Here is an example that your solution fails to deploy due to dll being locked. 2. Start the explorer by double click the procexp.exe 3. From the find tab click Find Handle or DLL 4.Type the your dll name and click Search 5. I can see all the processes that use my dlls at the moment, it looks like the iis , visual studio and SharePoint timer services might be the trouble. From my experience , it could be Visual studio. 6. Close visual studio and redeploy my solution, it works like charm. Re-search the dll, you can see Visual studio is not in the results.

• FxCop / Code Analysis with VS2010 Ultimate

  I've getting some information about this, but I still can find a proper answer, I was asked recently in my company for this : "run a fxcop analysis on that code and tell me the results". Ok, I have VS2010 Ultimate which has code analysis, but before making any comment, I browse it on the internet cause I want to implement the best choice... So, let's say I'm gonna use the same rules on both analyzers: Should I recommend using one above the other? Should I say "hey, thats kinda old, let's use code analysis!" Should I get the same results on different computers? (for what I undersand, fxcop gives you some "points" and for what I've read, sometimes it gives you diff points on diff computers, I don't know about this with code analysis Thanks, any help would be appreciated

Since this could be a long ongoing project, I want to get the structure right from the beginning. This is what I had in mind: Create a solution named "doEverythingDashboard" Delete the project named "doEverythingDashboard" under the solution "doEverythingDashboard" Create winform project named "interface" Create console applications projects for each functionality of "doEverythingDashboard" Reference each console application in "interface" Does this make any sense? Would it make more sense to just have one project and create a class per functionality instead of an entire project?

• How to start Sharepoint Development - Resources wanted [closed]

  I'm a apprentice for software development here in good ol' Germany and I've been doing fairly well with c#, asp.net mvc, entity framework and LINQ so far. My superiors want me to focus solely on our intranet development and Sharepoint development. They don't provide me with any resources to start. No books, no co-workers with actual webpart-dev-experience, seminars and the likes. There for it's do it on your own or die. I bought a book and started working through it on my virtual machine messing with the infrastructure and everything i can get a grip on. My main problem however stays the actual development. I have managed to write 2 webparts which can be used as a rudimentary ticket system(using WSP Builder and SP2007). But there it stops. Are there any comprehensive step by step tutorials or blogs out there, like the asp.net tutorials on www.asp.net which take you by the hand go over each step with you? Starting with the basic classes, going over custom css implementation, Jquery/Javascript ajax and async calls? No matter how trivial, I appreciate every help and hint you can give.

• Switching from Debug into Release Mode with VS2010 as IDE and Intel C++ Compiler 13

  I have a code of a Plug In from an SDK. The code is in Debug Mode. I use Intel Compiler which only applies optimizations in Release Mode. Under configuration manager of the project only "Debug" mode is defined. How could I switch to "Release" mode and enable all Intel Compiler's optimizations? If I enable them on debug mode nothing is applied (Empty Report). I couldn't find the trick to do so. Thank You.

  Problem: When I try to deploy my custom wsp solution to a specific web application, I got the error below: This solution contains no resources scoped for a Web application and cannot be deployed to a particular Web application. Analysis: The error message itself explains why you cannot deploy the solution to a web application. However if you do not like to deploy the solution to all the web applications and only like to deploy your solution to a specific application , you need to change the solution settings Assembly Deployment Target from GlobalAssemblyCache to WebApplication. What I'm looking for is a guide for how to actually write, manually, a *.rc file. Anything I have found so far, especially on MSDN, has only been about how to use the Visual Studio menu options to let it create resources for you. I'm not interested in that. Anyone able to help?

• How to Export a Contact to and Import a Contact from a vCard (.vcf) File in Outlook 2013

  vCard is the abbreviation for Virtual Business Card and is the standard format (.vcf files) for electronic business cards. vCards allow you to create and share contact information over the internet, such as in email messages and instant messaging. You can also use vCards to move contact information from one email or personal information management program to another, as long as both programs support the .vcf file format. vCards can contain name and address information, as well as phone numbers, email addresses, URLs, images, and audio clips. We will show you how to export a contact to and import a contact from a vCard, or .vcf file, in Outlook. First access the People section by clicking People at the bottom of the Outlook window. To view your contact in business card format, click Business Card in the Current View section of the Home tab. Select a contact by clicking on the name bar at the top of the business card. To export the selected contact as a vCard, click the File tab. On the Account Information screen, click Save As in the list of options on the left. The Save As dialog box displays. By default, the name of the contact is used to name the .vcf file in the File name edit box. Change the name, if desired, select a location for the file, and click Save. The contact is saved as a .vcf file. To import a vCard, or .vcf file, into Outlook, simply double-click on the .vcf file. By default, .vcf files are automatically associated with Outlook, so the file is opened in Outlook as a Contact. Make any changes or additions to the contact in the contact editing window. To save the contact, click Save & Close in the Actions section of the Contact tab. NOTE: Notice that because this contact is new, the full contact editing window displays rather than the Contact Card that displays when double-clicking on a contact. You can open the full contact editing window instead of the Contact Card when editing a contact or searching for a contact. The contact is added to the Contacts folder. You can add your contact information to a signature in business card format, and it will display as shown above in emails.
