• What parameters to use to compare GUI frameworks / toolkits?

  I'm doing some research on the best GUI toolkit to use for future products at the company. We're talking about a fairly large organizations with quite a bit of code and a complete rewrite project in planning. Don't ask. Anyway, I'm trying to create a list relevant parameters to judge the toolkits. What would you use to drive the comparison? Here's what I've got so far: Maturity Ease of development Ease of prototyping Ease of maintenance Size of hiring pool Available knowledge at the company Training costs Community size Community level of expertise (how hard to find good answers to complex problems) Amount of expert-level books available Ability to interface to other technologies Deployment considerations Visual aesthetics Ability to access OS resources Multiple monitor support (something that might come in handy in our particular application)

  Our latest BizTalk Server 2010 development project is utilising BizTalk as the integration ring around a new and sizable implementaion of Dynamics AX 2012. With this project we have decided to use BAM to monitor the processes within our various new applications.Although I have been specialising in BizTalk for around 9 years, this is my first time using BAM so it is an interesting process to be going through.Recently when deploying a solution I was attempting to check the BAM Portal to see that the View that I had created was properly deployed and that the Activity I was populating was being surfaced in the Portal as expected. • Ubuntu 12.10 - Resolution stuck at 1024x768 using Open Source Radeon Driver

  I'm using Ubuntu 12.10 with an ATI Radeon HD5670 card. I currently have the open source xorg-edgers driver. I've been using this driver interchangeably with the Radeon open source driver since fglrx seems to give me a lot of freezes. So I can't really use proprietary drivers, the Radeon driver seems to be stable for me, the resolution is the only problem. The resolution is stuck at 1024x768, where my monitor's native resolution is 1366x768. How do I enable that resolution? Going to System Settings Display only gives me 800x600 and 1024x768 by the way. And just another question, how do I know if xorg-edgers driver is enabled? When I run sudo lshw -c video, I still see the radeon driver. configuration: driver=radeon latency=0 Thanks a lot in advance!

  I have my network bandwidth eaten up totally. Whenever I connect my network, without any application being opened it is always full. I have prepared report of iftop, nethogs and network system monitor. iftop and nethogs My host IP is 192.168.1.203 and all the rest are not known though I have tried to pin 192.168.1.105, it doesn't reply. If possible I would like to block the most disturbing IP which is 192.168.1.105 to block it. but don't know how.

• Ubuntu 12.10 live-usb won't boot

  I own an Aleutia "Tango" low power PC. It uses a Intel Atom CPU N2800 @1.86GHz processor. I know there are Linux issues with the "Cedar Trail" graphics on this hardware but I can happily run Ubuntu 12.04 using the VESA graphics driver. I wanted to try out Ubuntu 12.10 so I created a live USB under 12.04 but I am unable to get this to boot. It gets as far as the Grub screen but after that the monitor shuts down. I have tried the F6 "nomodeset" option but that doesn't make any difference. Does anyone have any knowledge of this problem? Thanks in advance.

• Multiple X screens without Xinerama

  Is there some way to move Windows between separate X screens in Ubuntu 12.04? With 3 monitors on 2 GPUs, using Twinview is not an option. Xinerama allows me to drag windows between all monitors, but it also means that I lose all hardware acceleration. I don't expect to be able to drag windows between the screens and have them occupy two monitors simultaneously, but there must be some way to transfer a program while it is running. At the moment, I don't even know how to select which monitor it will use when launched. Any pointers?

• update-apt-xapian-index hogs CPU, even when Update Manager is set to not check for updates

  I have a slightly older laptop running Ubuntu 11.10. It runs fine, but frequently, when I start it up, the CPU monitor in my Gnome Panel shows 100% usage for for what can be up to five minutes or so. It seems that the offending process is update-apt-xapian-index, which, if I understand correctly, is the update manager checking for updates. I have gone into the update manager settings, and selected to never check for updates. I'll do that manually when I feel like I have the time to leave the laptop running for that. However, despite my selection, this still happens. Roughly 50% of the time or more, when I start my laptop, it runs update-apt-xapian-index. How can I get the update manager to respect my settings, or at least to get this process to stop eating my CPU cycles?

• Sys Admins are kind of like gods, aren't they? [closed]

  A systems administrator has root access to the entire system. There is nothing they cannot do. They are omnipotent. Their power is absolute. Nothing dan stand before them. Like Sauron, the Dark Lord, they do not share power. There can be but one root. Else contradiction at the most fundamental level is possible, and that can not be tolerated. The sys admin's power is unconditional and non-negotiable. To be a sys admin is like being a god. (And if they are a god, what is the religion?) There is an old saying that absolute power corrupts absolutely. I wonder whether being a sys admin has ended up warping an individual. Perhaps a sys admin has become crazed or even gone berserk? Surely sys admins must need to be very level headed people. For example, imagine being 'the' sys admin for the NSA. (What an awesome job that would be!) Think about the access to data, the encryption keys, the secrets... Perhaps one day a sys admin might go bonkers, turn up for work and 'uninstall the entire NSA'! :) But you would have the same sorts of responsibilities working at a bank or other organization. I wonder whether much emphasis is put on ensuring that sys admins are level headed in the first place and kept sweet in the second. Do they get paid well? I am sure they do not receive half of what they are worth, considering all the hard earned knowledge they have had to gain and the massive responsibility they have.

  I am attempting to create a pair programming environment sort of set up like multiseat: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/MultiseatX[1] or https://help.ubuntu.com/community/MultiseatOneCard[2] (as the standard issue boxes only have one graphics card) The thing is, I only want one login session, just with 2 monitors, keyboards, and mice. As well as having 2 active applications (so 2 people can be typing independantly). They should ideally be able to mouse over and click & type in the other persons monitor, as well as move windows between the montors. Does anybody know of anything like this that will work? We are running Ubuntu 12.04.

  Hy Everyone! I have some graphics glich when enable gpu acc. in chrome. If i disable acceleraion it fix the glich but, in full HD most of flash videos frame rate drop above frogs a**, so very slow... :) Any idea, what can i do? I Upload 2 pics from glich. My hardware: CM Hyper TX 3 on AMD A5300 with HD 7480D 6 GB RAM I use official AMD driver from amd.com, Ubuntu 14.04(I upgraded from 12.04, in Ubuntu 12, same glitch with old drivers.) I reinstalld x.org completly and purge all config files, but this didnt resolve the problem. • Why doesn't my graphic card support 1280*1024?

  Hi, I have an external monitor which is an 20" 1280*1024. In windows 7 it works fine with that resolution but in ubuntu it can't. Example: In windows I connect it and activates it, done. In ubuntu I connect and the only resolution that is available is the ones my laptop screen support, 12" 1366*768. My laptop is an asus 1201n. • Responsive Design: Which Framework Should I Use? CSS3 & HTML5

  I've been looking for a suitable set of HTML5/CSS3 foundation files to start new projects on. I started off piecing together my own files, but I believe I might be better served in finding a solid and fairly compatible(with me) CSS3/HTML5 framework and then tweaking certain things that may not best suit my own process. I'd love to find something that is responsive and that includes aspects focusing on layout, type(hor and vert baselines), form and interface components, cross-browser issues, and preferably built on something other than a just imple css reset, but that does include rebuilding elements consistently across browsers for a clean work slate. Extra features like polyfills or others area great, as is good documentation and examples. So far, off the top of my head I know of, Skeleton 1140 Grid 320 & Up (plus BP) HTML5 Boilerplate 2.0 and Mobile Inuit.css Less Framework Fluir Perkins.Less A few WP themes Are there any great one I don't know about? I work a lot in WP, and something that is easily incorporated (but also stand alone) is ideal. Plugins and wide set feature while maintaining the ability to cut it down when needed(flexibility) is also a big plus, and in par with a faster learning, since I want to start using whatever I find immediately . What are some of the better options you guys might be able to recommend? Systems or scripts, plugins, and other related tools are also welcome, Thanks!

• Menus and text boxes look graphically corrupted in 12.10

  If I let my computer run long enough the screen gets glitchy or graphically corrupted only in certain areas i.e. in text related boxes, menus, menu bars, scroll bars, the system monitor window, etc. It becomes difficult to read what I am typing. Its been happening quite often and I can only fix it by restarting the computer, but its only a matter of time before it happens again. Don't know what else to do, its been a thorn in my side for quite some time now and I need a fix soon because its only gets more frequent until I'm rebooting my computer five times a day. • What are the factors that determine the default frequency of a shader call?

  After i have been played for some days with various vertex and fragments shaders seems clear to me that this programs are called by the GPU at every and each rendering cycle, the problem is that I can't really quantify this frequency and I can't tell if is based on some default values or not because I don't have a big collection of hardware right now to do extensive tests. For what i know the answer could be really trivial like "it's the same of the refresh rate of your monitor", but i would like some good answers on that to be clear on this. For instance looks really odd to me that all the techniques used to control the amount of FPS that i have seen until now uses a call for the OpenGL function glutGet(GLUT_ELAPSED_TIME) to retrieve a value in ms about when the rendering started but I have to relies on the CPU to do the math. Why I can't set an FPS value in OpenGL if OpenGL clearly has a counter and a timer/clock? PS I'm referring to OpenGL 3.0+
