    Hi all, I have a question. In an html page, I have javascript code that allows me to open and close a popup window by clicking on a link displayed in the link, so the text displayed in the link changes to the state of the popup window (open-closed). With a variable true / false I manage the opening and closing of the popup window to click on a link whose text is aligned "opened popup" / "closed popup". The next step is to make this same change in state (true / false, "opened popup" / "close popup") directly by closing the popup window. The idea is to not have to refresh the page. Is this possible?   • Anonymous users support vs Google bot

    I have a User class in my web app that represents a user currently logged in. Every time a user vists a page, a User instance is populated based on authentication data supplied in cookies. A User instance is created even if an anonymous user logs in - and a corresponding new record is created in the User table in the database. This approach allows me to save some state info for the current user regardless of its type. The problem however with this approach is the Google bot, and other non-human web organisms crawling my pages. Every time a bot starts to walk around the site, thousands of useless records will be created in the database, each of them only to be used for a single page. Question: what is the best trade off? How to support anonymous users, save their state, and don't get too much overhead because of cookieless bots?

  • Retractable button bar using animations

    I want to create a button bar that is retractable: when the user clicks on a special "handle" button, the button bar should slide out of view partially so only the handle remains visible. When the bar is in retracted state only the handle is visible. Clicking on the handle should "slide out" the button bar so it is completely visible again. Ideally, the bar would start out in retracted state. I have tried some approaches using TranslateAnimation, including using a layout animation or calling "View.startAnimation" when the handle is clicked, but no luck so far. Do you guys have any tips how to approach this? Is there any decent documentation out there regarding Android animations? The documentation I find is sketchy at best. For instance, I found examples that cause a view to slide into view automatically using TranslateAnimation and a LayoutAnimationController when calling "addView", but when I call removeView no animation seems to be triggered at all, even if I set an animation that should create the opposite motion.

  • Is it a good idea to close and open hibernate sessions frequently?

    Hi, I'm developing an application which requires that state of entities be read from a database at frequent intervals or triggers. However, once hibernate reads the state, it doesn't re-read it unless I explicitly close the session and read the entity in a new session. Is it a good idea to open a session everytime I want to read the entity and then close it afterwards? How much of an overhead does this put on the application and the database (we use a c3p0 connection pool also)? Will it be enough to simply evict the entity from the session before reading it again?

    I am adding rows dynamically on code behind depending on the Row currently bounded on RowDataBound event. I want that added row to be the same state (Alternate or Normal) of the currently bounded row is this possible? I'm doing something like this but it doesn't follow what I want. I'm expecting the added row dynamically would be the same as the current row. I am not able to grasp that approach. Can anyone help me understand how DP is acting here. I can't understand what is a state here and how it is derived from the previous state.

I have a complex GUI with few Tab Controls and it consumes quite a bit of memory which is kept allocated when the application is not active.   • How should I structure my iPhone OpenGL ES 1.1 game?

    I am building an iPhone OpenGL ES 1.1 game. I am using the OpenGL ES template provided by xcode. I am only using the ES1Renderer. I've coded some basic touch actions the user can take, and I've begun to think about the overall structure of the code. All I'm really doing is using C in the ES1Renderer.m for my entire game state. I have an array of bullet structs, an array on enemy structs, etc.. Besides using this structure, where my entire game state is in ES1Renderer.m as C arrays and structs, what other ways are there to structure the code? Should I be using C++ or Objective-C classes to represent the enemies so they are more modular? The main reason I ask this is because I don't normally code in C, C++ and Objective-C..so I am a little fuzzy on coming up with a good architecture here.

  • Black flicker while resizing translucent Qt widget (only when Aero is enabled)?

    I have a top-level Qt widget with the FramelessWindowHint flag and the WA_TranslucentBackground attribute set. It has several children, each of which draws an image on it. They are not in a layout. Instead, I simply move them around when something changes (it is not user-resizable). There are two states to the window - a big state and a small state. When I switch between them, I resize the window and reposition the children. The problem is that as the window resizes, a black box is briefly flashed on the top-level window before the images are painted over it. The problem goes away if I disable Aero. I found brief mention of this problem being fixed in an article describing a new release of Qt (this release is long past), but it still doesn't work. Any ideas why? Thanks!

    I want to fill a button with an icon I created but whatever I have tried just seems to put the icon either half cut off and way left, or it doesn't show at all. I've been trying different combinations of CSS and the icon, iconcls, cls button options. I was following the Ext 3 buttons example page but that doesn't seem to display anything for me...   • Finding good heuristic for A* search

    I'm trying to find the optimal solution for a little puzzle game called Twiddle (an applet with the game can be found here). The game has a 3x3 matrix with the number from 1 to 9. The goal is to bring the numbers in the correct order using the minimum amount of moves. In each move you can rotate a 2x2 square either clockwise or counterclockwise. I.e. if you have this state 6 3 9 8 7 5 1 2 4 and you rotate the upper left 2x2 square clockwise you get 8 6 9 7 3 5 1 2 4 I'm using a A* search to find the optimal solution. My f() is simply the number of rotations need. My heuristic function already leads to the optimal solution but I don't think it's the best one you can find. My current heuristic takes each corner, looks at the number at the corner and calculates the manhatten distance to the position this number will have in the solved state (which gives me the number of rotation needed to bring the number to this postion) and sums all these values. I.e. You take the above example: 6 3 9 8 7 5 1 2 4 and this end state 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 then the heuristic does the following 6 is currently at index 0 and should by at index 5: 3 rotations needed 9 is currently at index 2 and should by at index 8: 2 rotations needed 1 is currently at index 6 and should by at index 0: 2 rotations needed 4 is currently at index 8 and should by at index 3: 3 rotations needed h = 3 + 2 + 2 + 3 = 10 But there is the problem, that you rotate 4 elements at once. So there a rare cases where you can do two (ore more) of theses estimated rotations in one move. This means theses heuristic overestimates the distance to the solution. My current workaround is, to simply excluded one of the corners from the calculation which solves this problem at least for my test-cases. I've done no research if really solves the problem or if this heuristic still overestimates in same edge-cases. So my question is: What is the best heuristic you can come up with?
