• Bugzilla 3.6 with Netbeans 6.8

  Hi All, I really just wanted to thank everybody that participates in the stackoverflow community. On more than one occasion, your minds have saved me from soul-eating project managers and career-ending deadlines. The commendable awareness exhibited by contributors that their answers are studied/used as learning material by millions of developers all over the world has created a regulated trust that seemingly keeps the nonsense (and egos) at the bottom of the barrel and out of the way. As an up-and-coming developer with so much to learn, I am grateful for each and every one of their patient contributions. I wish I could come up with a catchy/funny sign-off that makes everybody feel good, but I lack the funny bone that so many of the people on this site seem to have been born with. • Java RMI method synchronization

  Hello, I have a class that is stored on the 'server' and multiple clients can call this method. This method returns a class. Now when clients call accessor methods within this class for example a set accessor method. I want the object on the server to be updated and synchronized across all the other clients. • IMAP Idle Timeout

  Lets say I am using IMAP IDLE to monitor changes in a mail folder. The IMAP spec says that IDLE connections should only stay alive for 30 minutes max, but it is recommended that a lower number of minutes is selected - say 20 minutes, then cancel the idle and restart. I am wondering what would happen if the mail contents changed between the idle canceling, and the new idle being created. An email could potentially be missed. Given that RECENT is a bit vague, this could lead to getting a message list before the old idle ends, and a new idle starts. But this is almost the same as polling every 20 minutes, and defeats some of the benefit of idle. Alternatively, a new idle session could be started prior to terminating the expiring one. But in any case, I think this problem has already been solved so here I am asking for recommendations. Thanks, Paul

• AdMob ads on Android app are not rotating / refreshing

  Has anyone else had this problem? I have a game, and the Ads show at the top of the phone above my game view. When I'm tapping away on the game, the ads just stay the same. BUT, if I don't touch anything and wait the 15 seconds, as is set in my Interval, THEN the ad changes (usually). I don't get any error reports. There's nothing to indicate that this shouldn't be working just fine, but I have no idea why my ads aren't refreshing or rotating while I'm interacting with the other View in my application. Any direction or thoughts would be helpful, thank you!

• Setting a WebControls TabIndex based on the ControlId of another control

  I have an ASP.NET Webforms site that is regularly having features added. The majority of time a new WebControl is added to the page and I need to increment the TabIndex to all subsequent controls on the page. I'd prefer a more robust solution than choosing an arbitrary gap between the initial assigned tab indexes. Setting the tab indexes using the designer tab order functionality is one option but I'd prefer to stay in the source view. Ideally, if I had three check boxes I'd like to be able to define the tabindex based off the previous controls tabindex. • portable emacs? (emacs server not working)

  I have seen a few suggestions on making emacs portable (on Windows). I have this in my site-start.el: (defvar program-dir (substring data-directory 0 -4)) (setq inhibit-startup-message t) (setenv "HOME" program-dir) I changed the HOME variable so that not only my .emacs init files (and other init files) are read, but everything generated by emacs will stay in the program directory, not needing me to specify the path for everything one by one. Well this works well but the emacs server is not working; I get error message "no connection could be made because target machine actively refused it." If I don't change my HOME var then emacs server works. Is there way to fix this?

• UIButton disappears inside selected UITableViewCell

  I have a table, I have cellForRowAtIndexPath delegate for it and I have instance of UITableViewCell being created inside that method, which I return. Somewhere in cellForRowAtIndexPath I also add UIButton to cell.contentView of that cell. It all works fine, until I select that cell with button in it. The cell changes color to blue (which is ok), uibutton changes its color to blue too. Now, if I click on that UIButton inside selected cell, it just disappears! Wow, that's weird, how do I fix it? I want UIButton inside selected cell to stay, when I click it.

• how to prevent MPMoviePlayer controls from hiding

  I am trying to implement a custom MPMoviePlayer to play mp3 audio. I have got it working in portrait mode along with an overlay window over the native controls - thanks to other stackoverflow posts. The current issue is the song progress control shows up when the media window opens (blue bar taking up the first 40 odd pixels), but seems to disappear when the song starts leaving a white bar. It will then re-appear when touching the area, so functionally works fine. I would like to find a way to ensure the controls always stay visible but have not found an appropriate property in the reference. Ideally I would like to have my custom control to replace the default, more because I would like to change the position that the look and feel. This being said, I understand it is not possible as the current position in the song from a MPMoviePlayer cannot be accessed.

  A custom AnnotationView is updated with new coordinates. But the problem is that it visually updates only after some manipulations with MKMapView, e.g. zooming or moving. What should I do to manually update visual position on a map? PS. I've tried to change region to current map's region. But it does change zoom. It's strange. • Getting uninitialized constant error when trying to run tests

  I just updated all my gems and I'm finding that I'm getting errors when trying to run Test::Unit tests. I'm getting the error copied below. That comes from creating new, empty Rails project, scaffolding a simple model, and running rake test. Tried Googling "uninitialized constant" and TestResultFailureSupport. The only thing I found was this bug report from 2007. I'm using OS X. • Replace text in Word Document via ASP.NET

  How can I replace a string/word in a Word Document via ASP.NET? I just need to replace a couple words in the document, so I would like to stay AWAY from 3rd party plugins & interop. I would like to do this by opening the file and replacing the text. The following attempts were made: I created a StreamReader and Writer to read the file but I think that I am reading and writing in the wrong format. I think that Word Documents are stored in binary?? If word documents are binary, how would I read and write the file in binary? • auto-scaling size with anchors - overlapping controls

  I'm having some trouble with resizing and scaling of controls in a windows form. I've set anchors up so that the controls stay in ratio with the form, which works great. However, perhaps i was expecting too much when i thought that the control origin points would also scale and change with the form scaling, but this is not the case and i'm finding my controls overlapping. here's some screenshots; anyone know of an approach i can take to solve this problem? perhaps i need to set control origins to dynamic drawing points that scale, but then do these redraw on scaling the form, or only on creation?

• Expression Studio 4 Premium & SketchFlow: Am I screwed?

  Through work I have an Visual Studio Premium with MSDN subscription that I love. However, my biggest disappointment of the last 12 months was discovering that our 2nd from the top level subscription was not enough to get me Sketchflow! This sucks and I am borderline distraught! What are my options? Upgrading to an Ultimate subscription for Sketchflow is out of the question. Am I forced, then, to stay with Blend 3 or Purchase Blend 4 seperately? If this is not a question I should ask here please inform and I'll delete. I just tend to default to SO for all questions that Google can't answer and Google did not answer this one.

• why use branches in svn?

  i know that you could organize your files according to this structure in svn: trunk branches tags that you copy the trunk to a folder in branches if you want to have a seperate development line. later on you merge this branch back to trunk. but i wonder why me and my group should do this. why should one copy the trunk to a branch and work with this copy just to merge it back to the trunk, and mean while the code is frequently updated/commited to stay in sync with the trunk. why not just work with the trunk then? what is the benefits with creating a branch? would be great if someone could shed a light on this topic. thanks in advance

Problem is, whenever the cursor exits my frame and hovers over the WorldFrame, the cursor is reset back to the normal one. I know of a certain addon that does overcome this problem, but I am not too sure how, because its source code is messy as hell. (The addon is Gryphonheart Items, in case you asked yourself.) • Validate a string in a table in SQL Server - CLR function or T-SQL

  I need to check If a column value (string) in SQL server table starts with a small letter and can only contain '_', '-', numbers and alphabets. I know I can use a SQL server CLR function for that. However, I am trying to implement that validation using a scalar UDF and could make very little here...I can use 'NOT LIKE', but I am not sure how to make sure I validate the string irrespective of the order of characters or in other words write a pattern in SQL for this. Am I better off using a SQL CLR function? Any help will be appreciated.. Thanks in advance Thank you everyone for their comments. This morning, I chose to go CLR function way. For the purpose of what I was trying to achieve, I created one CLR function which does the validation of an input string and have that called from a SQL UDF and It works well. Just to measure the performance of t-SQL UDF using SQL CLR function vs t- SQL UDF, I created a SQL CLR function which will just check if the input string contains only small letters, it should return true else false and have that called from a UDF (IsLowerCaseCLR). After that I also created a regular t-SQL UDF(IsLowerCaseTSQL) which does the same thing using the 'NOT LIKE'. Then I created a table (Person) with columns Name(varchar) and IsValid(bit) columns and populate that with names to test. Data :- 1000 records with 'Ashish' as value for Name column 1000 records with 'ashish' as value for Name column then I ran the following :- UPDATE Person Set IsValid=1 WHERE dbo.IsLowerCaseTSQL (Name) Above updated 1000 records (with Isvalid=1) and took less than a second. I deleted all the data in the table and repopulated the same with same data. Then updated the same table using Sql CLR UDF (with Isvalid=1) and this took 3 seconds! If update happens for 5000 records, regular UDF takes 0 seconds compared to CLR UDF which takes 16 seconds! I am very less knowledgeable on t-SQL regular expression or I could have tested my actual more complex validation criteria. But I just wanted to know, even I could have written that, would that have been faster than the SQL CLR function considering the example above. Are we using SQL CLR because we can implement we can implement lot richer logic which would have been difficult otherwise If we write in regular SQL. Sorry for this long post. I just want to know from the experts. Please feel free to ask if you could not understand anything here. Thank you again for your time.

• WPF assign Z-Order of owned windows without changing focus.

  Hi, Due to OpenGL airspace issues I have several windows that are owned by the main window but look and act like controls. I also have some data readout/sort windows that show real-time data and need to be normal floating windows, also owned by the main window so that they remain floating above the main window even while operations are performed in the main window. The issue: I open a data readout window (normal window) and am watching data change. Then I click on a text box to enter a value in one of the windows that acts as a control due to airspace issues, and it becomes activated, covering up my data readout window. This is bad because the airspace window is supposed to act like it is part of the main window. I tried some tricks with Activation and Deactivation, and it looks ok but then editing the airspace window at all is impossible because WPF only lets me edit the activated window. How can I ask that normal data readout window to please stay above all other windows owned by the main window, but still let other windows receive focus?
