• My website keeps crashing IE, can't debug

  I have a website that suddenly started to crash internet explorer. The website loads and starts executing javascript but somewhere in there the machinery explodes. I don't even get a script error, it just crashes. I've tried to manually step through every single line of js with the built in debugger but then of course the problem doesn't occur. If i choose to debug the application when it crashes i see the following message. Unhandled exception at 0x6c5dedf5 in iexplore.exe: 0xC0000005: Access violation reading location 0x00000090. The top 5 items in the call stack looks like this VGX.dll!6c5dedf5() [Frames below may be incorrect and/or missing, no symbols loaded for VGX.dll] VGX.dll!6c594d70() VGX.dll!6c594f63() VGX.dll!6c595350() VGX.dll!6c58f5e3() mshtml.dll!6f88dd17() VGX.dll seems to be part of the vml renderer and i am in fact using VML. I'm not suprised because i've had so many problems with vml, attributes has to be set in specific order, sometimes you cant set attributes when you have elements attached to the dom or vice versa (everything undocumented btw) but then the problems can usually be reproduced when debugging but not now :( The problem also occurs in no plugin-mode. Is there a better approach than trial and error to solve this? Edit: Adding a console outputting every suspect modification to the DOM made the problem only occur sometimes. (the console is also implemented in javascript on the same page, i'm able to see the output even after a crash as the window is still visible) Apparently it seems to be some kind of race condition. I managed to track it down even further, and it seems to occur when you remove an object from the DOM too quickly after it's just been added. (most likely only for vml-elements with some special attribute, didn't try further) And it can't be fixed by adding a dead loop in front of removeChild(pretty bad solution anyway), the page has to be rendered by the browser once after the addChild before you can call removeChild. sigh

• Pushing or serving real-time data to an excel spreadsheet

  I am running some test automation on a networked computer resource (remote). The remote computer running the test automation generates some output, which I can customize however I wish - probably a text or excel file. I would like to create an excel spreadsheet which, from my local machine, monitors this output and provides real-time analytics. Later I would make the networked computer visible to more people, and they can use the same spreadsheet to monitor this output. My problem is that this networked computer is located on the other side of the earth, and so using any kind of polling in excel VBA to PULL the data from the networked computer results in a very long wait with the pinwheel spinning, making the sheet clumsy and less useful. The same thing happens when I use excel's built in function for linking to "external resources" Is there any way to PUSH data to the excel spreadsheet from the networked computer? Something that is easy to set up would be ideal, the latency does not have to be low, so long as there is no awkward "busy wait" while the sheet updates. If that is not possible, is there any way of using PULL from the excel sheet that avoids the same busy wait?

• Form wont stay on top. How do I keep my excel form from hiding behind other windows after I browse

  I have a vb.net program that opens up an excel workbook and runs a macro ("Report") in that workbook when a button is clicked. //Workbook with macro and form xlWorkbook = xlApp.Workbooks.Open("W:Data\Excel Program.xls") //Macro: xlApp.Run("Report") //Macro opens form from workbook. I browse for my two .csv files //and then click a button to run code that creates my reports. //form closes, show the excel report after its created xlApp.Visible = True After I browse my first file and select it so that its location is displayed in my text box, the excel form then hides behind any open windows. I want this form to stay on top. It is after this code executes that the form will hide behind all other open windows: Private Sub btnBrowseFile1_Click() Dim fileName1 As String fileName1 = Application.GetOpenFilename("CSV file (*.csv), *.csv") If fileName1 <> "False" Then Me.txtFileName1.text = fileName1 End If End Sub EDIT: I still have no luck with this problem. When the excel macro is opened from a vb program I have this hiding issue...but only after browsing for a file. Why does the focus leave the form and go to Windows after browsing a file? • Getting the error "Missing $ inserted" in LaTeX

  Hey, I try to write the following in latex: \begin{itemize} \item \textbf{insert(element|text)} inserts the element or text passed at the start of the selection. \item \textbf{insert_after(element|text)} inserts the element or text passed at the end of the selection. \item \textbf{replace(element|text)} replaces the selection with the passed text/element. \item \textbf{delete()} deletes the selected text. \item \textbf{annotate(name,value)} annotates the selected text with the passed name and value-pair. This can either be a hidden meta-data about the selection, or can alter the visible appearance. \item \textbf{clear_annotation()} removes any annotation for this specific selection. \item \textbf{update_element(value)} performs an update of the element at the selection with the passed value. \end{itemize} For some reason, I get a bunch of errors. I think there is something with the use of the word "insert". I get errors like "Missing $ inserted", so it seems like the parses tries to fix some "errors" on my parts. Do I need to escape words like "insert", how do I do that?

  We are upgrading our XL C/C++ compiler from V8.0 to V10.1 and found some code that is now giving us an error, even though it compiled under V8.0. Here's a minimal example: test.h: #include <iostream> #include <string> template <class T> void f() { std::cout << TEST << std::endl; } test.cpp: #include <string> #include "test.h" namespace { std::string TEST = "test"; } int main() { f<int>(); return 0; } Under V10.1, we get the following error: "test.h", line 7.16: 1540-0274 (S) The name lookup for "TEST" did not find a declaration. "test.cpp", line 6.15: 1540-1303 (I) "std::string TEST" is not visible. "test.h", line 5.6: 1540-0700 (I) The previous message was produced while processing "f<int>()". "test.cpp", line 11.3: 1540-0700 (I) The previous message was produced while processing "main()". We found a similar difference between g++ 3.3.2 and 4.3.2. I also found in g++, if I move the #include "test.h" to be after the unnamed namespace declaration, the compile error goes away. So here's my question: what does the Standard say about this? When a template is instantiated, is that instance considered to be declared at the point where the template itself was declared, or is the standard not that clear on this point? I did some looking though the n2461.pdf draft, but didn't really come up with anything definitive.

• Disable Products in different Magento Store Views

  I have a Magento Multi-Store installation (not multi-site) and some products are available in more than one store. However, these products that are available in, let's say storeA and storeB, have related products, BUT, the related products are not available in both stores. The problem is this, Product1, which has Product2, Product3, and Product4 as related products, appears in storeA. No Problem. Product1 is also available in storeB, but NOT Product2-3-4. However, those products, though not shown in the general catalog of storeB, are visible as related products to Product1 in storeB. If I use the drop down to manage products in storeB, and I remove the related products in Product1, it removes the related products from Product1 in storeA, where they should be available. I cannot change the status attribute to storeview in Manage Attributes, because the only choices are Global or Website, not Store View. I can change the skin to show UPSELL products instead, and set up different UPSELL products, but that limits my stores to only two. Any ideas?

• Opening up process and grabbing window title. Where did I go wrong?

  In my application I allow for the users to add a program from a open file dialog, and it then adds the item to a listview and saves the items location into the tag. So what I am trying to do is when the program in the listview is selected and the button is pressed, it starts a timer and this timer checks to see if the process is running, and if it isn't launches the process, and once the process is launched it gets the window title of the process and sends it to a textbox on another form. EDIT: The question is if anyone can see why it is not working, by this I mean starting the process, then when it's started closing the form and adding the process window title to a textbox on another form. I have tried to get it working but I can't. I know that the process name it is getting is right I think my problem is to do with my for loop. Basically it isn't doing anything visible right now. I feel like I am very close with my code and im hoping it just needs a couple minor tweaks. Any help would be appreciated. Sorry if my coding practices aren't that great, im pretty new to this. EDIT:I thought I found a solution but it only works now if the process has been started already. It won't start it up.   Hello, I have a header div as the first element in my wrapper div, but when I add a top margin to a h1 inside the header div it pushes the entire header div down. I realize this happens whenever I apply a top margin to the first visible element on a page. Here is a sample of the css. The className its applied to the table. Please notice, that the problem I have its checking the last row and only one element of the row has to have some text in it. (e.g. each row has 5 textboxes at least one textbox need to have some text inside in order to be able to add another row, otherwise, the alert comes up). Any help would be apreciated. Thanks

  I'm working on a ruby baser lexer. To improve performance, I joined up all tokens' regexps into one big regexp with match group names. The problem here is that it's slow (I spend about 10% of time in the loop; also 8% grabbing the @input[@pos..-1] to make sure that \A works as expected to match start of string (I do not discard input, just shift the @pos in it). You can check the full code at GH repo. Any ideas on how to make it at least a bit faster? Is there any option to figure the "successful" match group easier?

  Hey there, I have a problem with a SQLite photo/album database. The database contains 3 tables: Albums id name hide -------------------------- 1 Holiday 2010 1 2 Day Trip 0 Photos id file ----------------- 1 photo1.jpg 2 photo2.jpg 3 photo3.jpg 4 photo4.jpg Relation (connects photos with albums) album photo ----------------- 1 1 1 2 2 3 2 1 A photo can be assigned to zero, one or several albums. Each album has a column 'hide' that indicates, whether the photos of this album should be ignored. I'm trying to find a SELECT query that returns all photos that are not assigned to an album + all the photos that are in albums which are not hidden (i.e. that have their 'hide' value set to 0). I came up with a query that selects photos in visible albums, but I don't know how to include the photos that are not assigned to an album. SELECT file FROM photos, albums, relation WHERE photos.id = relation.photo AND albums.id = relation.album AND albums.hide = 0 This query returns photo3.jpg and the required result would be photo3.jpg photo4.jpg because photo4.jpg is not assigned to album in the Relation table. • cocos2d - how to draw a bottle sprite with dynamically changing water level

  I am trying to draw a (2d) sprite in cocos2d showing a bottle. The bottle shall be able to have a dynamic water level (i.e. the amount of water in the bottle can change over the lifetime of the sprite). I am wondering how to do this. I currently have a PNG file of the empty bottle. I adjusted the alpha channel of that PNG so when rendering the sprite I can draw a blue rectangle and render the bottle texture over it. That will give the impression of the water being inside the bottle. However, the bottle's shape is not a rectangle itself of course, so the water can be seen out of the bounds of the bottle. I can change the bottle image in a way that only the bottle itself is transparent and set the "outside world" to an opaque color & alpha channel value, but that again prevents the "world background" to be visible in that area. I simply don't have a clue how to realize this in a sane manner. Do I really have to read every pixel of the bottle image, identify which pixel is "inside" of the bottle and then draw the water pixel by pixel? • Adding UIView on top of all views dynamically during runtime?

  Team, I am trying to bring a menu in top of all visible views during runtime. This menu should be easily addable and removable dynamically in certain conditions. To do this, I have tried adding a button view to the UIWindow as a subview during runtime. UIButton *button = [UIButton buttonWithType:UIButtonTypeRoundedRect]; [button addTarget:self action:nil forControlEvents:UIControlEventTouchDown]; [button setTitle:@"Show View" forState:UIControlStateNormal]; button.frame = CGRectMake(80.0, 210.0, 160.0, 40.0); [window addSubview:button]; [window makeKeyAndVisible]; [window bringSubviewToFront:button]; But it doesnt worked. Also I have tried to place this button in the root view controller, but no luck again. Edit - Note: This code is not from a UIViewController. I am trying to build a library this will be in that library code. Use case be like you could post NSNotification to enable and disable this menu dynamically during runtime. Please suggest. Thanks !

• steam condenser java errors

  I've been working on a little project involving Steam Condenser, a Steam API written in Java, but I haven't been able to actually do anything with it. I'll explain. This is what the wiki tells me: SteamId id = new SteamId("demomenz"); GameStats stats = id.getGameStats("tf2"); List achievements = stats.getAchievements(); The problem is, eclipse doesn't like it apparently, as it spits out this error: The constructor SteamId(String) is undefined and it gives me the option to change it to: SteamId id = new SteamId("demomenz", false); But at this point a different error comes out: The constructor SteamId(Object, boolean) is not visible So, I'm assuming this function is internal to the API, and should not be called from the outside. If anyone is familiar with this, or has a clue on why I'm getting this error (I'm fairly new to Java development), an answer would be greatly appreciated. UPDATE: The constructor SteamId(String) is undefined This is if I use SteamId.create(ConvertedID); (ConvertedID is a String containing the Steam64 ID). At this point I believe this API is not that well written, at least for java. Any other idea?

• Hide Dynamically Added Columns/Fields

  I have some dynamically created rows/columns. What I'd like to do is set a section of it (txtOffsetID) to be hidden. I tried this: txtOffsetID.setAttribute('type', 'hidden'); but it didn't work. I want to hide that entire column and any new columns added. I need it to work in IE. Thanks. • jQuery menu animation

  Hi Stackoverflow, I'm building a website where I'm using jQuery to animate a horizontal tabbed menu. What I want to achieve can be seen here: / link removed / If you hover/mouseover the "Link 1" tab, you'll see that a white div is expanding. Each of the tab menu items are a styled li-tag. What I want to do is, that when you hover/mouseover i.e. the "Link 2" tab, the white div contracts and then expands again with content related to "Link 2" instead of "Link 1". Also, the "Link 1" tab should be expanded by default (i.e. when you just entered the site) Does any of you jQuery ninjas out there know how to do this? • Select All in Javascript (Firefox extension) not working right

  I'm having some problems with a select all/ none function. (I didn't write it, I'm trying to fix it!) It currently looks like this: rsfindmod.SelAll = function(){ document.getElementById("ListBox").selectAll(); document.getElementById("ListBox").focus(); } It's being used on a dynamically generated set of links, so there's no set number of items in this listbox. This seems to work most of the time, but randomly it only selects those which are visible at the time. Scrolling the list or hitting the button again seems to normally make it work as expected. My first (Obvious?) thought was to replace the function entirely with the one from this link for testing: http://viralpatel.net/blogs/2009/06/listbox-select-all-move-left-right-up-down-javascript.html Trouble is that I can't get this one to work whatsoever! This gives me the error that listbox.options is not defined Any thoughts please? I'm by no means certain whether it's the original function at fault, or something in the generation of this listbox.

• Effect.toggle and AJAX Calls

  Hi, I am using the following code to capture all the AJAX calls being made from my app, in order to show a busy spinner till the call is completed. It works well when the requests are well spaced out. However, when the request are made in quick successions, some of the AJAX calls do not get registered, or the onCreate and onComplete actions get kicked off at the same time, and more often than not, the busy spinner continues to appear on the screen, after all the calls have successfully completed.   Hi, this is just a question to discuss - what is the best way to make a view/edit control in WPF? E.g. we have an entity object Person, that has some props (name, surname, address, phone etc.). One presentation of the control would be a read-only view. And the other would have the edit view for this same person. • HTML5 Drag and Drop styles not displaying on Windows Server 2003

  I'm working on a file upload utility based on Valum's Ajax-Uploader. The idea is similar to the Gmail attachment process. The user should be able to drag a file from the desktop into the browser window and onto the file upload area to get it to upload. This works fine in the browsers that support this functionality (Firefox 3.6+, Chrome 7+). The problem I'm running into are the styles that should be re-drawn when the user: Drags the file anywhere in the browser Drags the file into the upload area I have tested in the exact same browser versions on WinXP, Vista, and Win7. The appropriate styles are redrawn. However, in Windows Server 2003, they do not. In Win2003, when I inspect the div that should be redrawn via Firebug, the "drop-area" and "drop-area-active" classes are applied correctly. Firebug even shows the correct style declarations, but the changes are never visible. The only difference between FF and Chrome that I'm able to spot is that in Chrome, the "drop-area-active" style is displayed for a split second when the user drops the file. I'm not positive that it is a Windows2003 issue, but that's the only OS in which I'm able to recreate the bug.

I have made the views in interfacebuilder. they all have their own .h and .m files to go with it. Scenario I am in: I have a main menu which has the view2 header file imported. In a method I add the second view on top of the superview like so view2ViewController * view2 = [[view2ViewController alloc] initWithNibName:@"view2ViewController" bundle:nil]; [self.view addSubview:view2.view]; then in view 2 I have added the view 3 header file so i can add view 3 as a subview ontop of view2. i have another method which is connected again to interface builder to a UIButton so upon button press a method gets called in view2 which adds view 3 on top in exactly the same way like so: view3ViewController * view3 = [[view3ViewController alloc] initWithNibName:@"view3ViewController" bundle:nil]; [self.view addSubview:view3.view]; What im trying to solve: I have a button in view 3 which should remove view 3.... and then it should also remove view 2 aswell so the main screen is visible. How can this be achieved? What I have so far: [self.view removeFromSuperview]; This however only removes View 3... but leaves view 2 in place. What needs to be modified so that i can remove view 2 as well?? Any help is appreciated.

• Satisfying indirect references at runtime.

  I'm using C# and VS2010. I have a dll that I reference in my project (as a dll reference not a project reference). That dll (a.dll) references another dll that my project doesn't directly use, let's call it b.dll. None of these are in the GAC. My project compiles fine, but when I run it I get an exception that b.dll can't be found. It's not being copied to the bin directory when my project is compiled. What is the best way to get b.dll into the bin directory so that it can be found at run time. I've thought of four options. Use a post compile step to copy b.dll to the bin directory Add b.dll to my project (as a file) and specify copy to output directory if newer Add b.dll as a dll reference to my project. Use ILMerge to combine b.dll with a.dll I don't like 3 at all because it makes b.dll visible to my project, the other two seem like hacks. Am I missing other solutions? Which is the "right" way? Would a dependency injection framework be able to resolve and load b.dll?

• How can I define an irregular area of the screen and find the closest point to the mouse in that area?

  I'm looking for a method to define an area of the screen that the mouse cannot leave. I have been directed by rob mayoff, the answerer of this question, that I can use a Quartz Event Tap to detect mouse events. This puts me part of the way to the solution to THIS question. I need to define an irregular area of the screen, not just a rectangle, that the mouse cannot leave. I have been researching this and the only idea I can come up with is using a bitmap to define the irregular area, as it will be very oddly shaped. However, I am open to solutions other than using a bitmap. Since this must be done on a Mac, I've determined that I will have to use objective C / Cocoa . I need to know how to define the area and, equally importantly, how to find the closest point in the area to the mouse (so that I can move the mouse to it if the mouse tries to move outside of the area). This is similar to what the restricted area will look like: [edit:] Okay, I've come up with part of the answer to this. If I can do a basic (light-weight) point collision detection on the image mask, I can use a simple algorithm to detect the closest point to the mouse on the black area of the image. I could do this by calculating distance between a pre-defined point (P) inside the black area of the image and the target mouse position (T), taking the midpoint (M), then checking if the midpoint is inside or outside of the shape (black or white, respectively). If M is inside the shape, then move the P to M, otherwise move T to the M, continuously recalculate this until the distance between T and P is 1 pixel or less, then move the mouse to the final calculated position. All of that being said, I still need some way to test the position of the mouse against that same position on the bitmap (assume the bitmap is the same resolution as the monitor), and check if that point is black or white. All of this needs to be done in the background, without this application actually having focus, or the bitmap being visible... is this possible?

• Where to create/keep secret files for license information/trials on Windows/Mac OS X/Linux?

  I'm writing a commercial product which uses a simple registration mechanism and allows the user to use the application for a demo period before purchasing. My application must somewhere store the registration information (if entered) and/or the date of the first launch to calculate if the user is still within the demo/trail period. While I'm pretty much finished with the registration mechanism itself, I now have to find a good way to store the registration information on the user's disk. The most obvious idea would be to store the trial period in the preferences file, but since user tend to delete/tinker with those from time to time, it might be a good idea to keep the registration information in a separate, more hidden file. So here's my question: What is the best place/strategy to keep and create such hidden files on Windows, Mac OS X and Linux? Here is what came to my mind so far: Linux/Mac OS X Most Unix-like systems are rather locked down when it comes to places a user can write files to. In most cases this is only the /tmp directory and the user's home directory. I guess the easiest here is probably to create a file with a dot-prefix to make it less visible, then give it a name that won't make it obvious that it's associated with my application. Windows Probably much like Linux/Mac OS X - more recent Windows versions become more restrictive when it comes to file system permissions. Anyway, I'd like to hear your ideas and thoughs. Even better if you have already implemented something similar in the past. Thanks! Update For me the places for such files is more relevant than the discussion of the question if this way for copy protection is good or bad.
