• How can I use a custom ValidationAttribute to ensure two properties match?

  We're using xVal and the standard DataAnnotationsValidationRunner described here to collect validation errors from our domain objects and view models in ASP.NET MVC. I'd like to have a way to have that validation runner identify when two properties don't match through the use of custom DataAnnotations. Right now I'm forced into doing it outside of the runner, this way: if (!(model.FieldOne == model.FieldTwo)) errors.Add(new ErrorInfo("FieldTwo", "FieldOne must match FieldTwo", model.FieldTwo)); My question is: can this be done using property-level validation attributes, or am I forced into using class-level attributes (in which case, I'd have to modify the runner...and my follow up question would be how best to retrieve them in that case).   Is there any logical or technical reason (with the W3C validation) for making alt as required attribute .. This is my actual problem:though my page is perfect enough with respect to W3C validation rules .. Only error I am getting is line XX column YY - Error: required attribute "ALT" not specified I know the significance of "alt" attribute and I have omitted that where it is unnecessary .. (to be more elaborate .. I have added the image to increase the beauty of my page and I don't want alt attribute to show irrelevant message to the viewer) getting rid of the error is secondary .. rather I am curious to know whether is it a flaw with validation rules .. ?? • Do any browsers yet support HTML5's checkValidity() method?

  The HTML5 spec defines some very interesting validation components, including pattern (for validating against a Regexp) and required (for marking a field as required). As best I can tell, however, no browser yet actually does any validation based on these attributes. I found a comparison of HTML5 support across engines, but there is no information about validation there. In the browsers I've tried (Firefox 3.5.8 and Safari 4.0.4), no object has a checkValidity() method, so I can't run the validations even though I can define them. Is there any support for this feature out there so I can experiment?

  Hi, I am trying to learn Domain Driven Design and recently read that lots of people advocate creating a ViewModels for your views that store all the values you want to display in a given view. My question is how should I do the form validation? should I create separate validation classes for each view, or group them together? I'm also confused on what this would look like in code.   I have models similar to the following: class Band(models.Model): name = models.CharField(unique=True) class Event(models.Model): name = models.CharField(max_length=50, unique=True) bands = models.ManyToManyField(Band) and essentially I want to use the validation capability offered by a ModelForm that already exists for Event, but I do not want to show the default Multi-Select list (for 'bands') on the page, because the potential length of the related models is extremely long. I have the following form defined: class AddEventForm(ModelForm): class Meta: model = Event fields = ('name', ) Which does what is expected for the Model, but of course, validation could care less about the 'bands' field. I've got it working enough to add bands correctly, but there's no correct validation, and it will simply drop bad band IDs. What should I do so that I can ensure that at least one (correct) band ID has been sent along with my form?   Is it possible to validate a form with PHP AND Javascript? I am currently able to do both using my existing form but only on an individual basis. My overall goal is this: Validate form using javascript client side and present any errors to the user immediately If javascript validation passes, a flag is created and then the PHP script can begin. When doing my javascript validation, i use the following code within the form tag: <form id="Enroll_Form" action="review.php" method="post" name="Enroll_Form" onsubmit="return Enroll_Form_Validator(this)" language="javascript"> if I want to process the PHP validation, I am forced to rename the action to the PHP_SELF file (or simply the same file name i'm using) and remove the 'onsubmit' function. Any ideas?

  I'm using jQuery's validation on a form. When the form is validated, I'm using a submitHandler to fill a dialog with data from the form then I open the dialog to display it. Works great except for in IE6. Nothing displays. I've tried initializing the dialog before and after running the validation code but neither makes a difference.   I recently had a Joomla site hacked, so I'm trying to harden the site a bit. There's a section in the recommended .htaccess that restricts outside access to the xml files that come with extensions. However, it also keeps my sitemap.xml file from being accessed.   We have 2 servers, 1 already configured with .net which works fine and a new one which appears to be configured the same but when I open an xml page in Internet Explorer it complains about the <% tag. We have IIS on win srvr 2003 SP2. The website is configured with .NET 1.1.4322. In ISAPI extensions have set the .XML extension to use c:\windows\microsoft.net\framework\v1.1.4322\aspnet_isapi.dll But the page: <property name="documentmaxage" value="0"/> <property name="documentmaxstale" value="0"/> <var name="m_Prompt_Path" /> <form id="InitVoiceXmlDoc"> <block> <assign name="m_Prompt_Path" expr="&quot;<% Response.Write(Request.QueryString["m_Prompt_Path"]); %>&quot;"/> </block> </form> gives the error: The XML page cannot be displayed Cannot view XML input using XSL style sheet. • How to tell Java SAX Parser to ignore invalid character references?

  When trying to parse incorrect XML with a character reference such as &#x1, Java's SAX Parser dies a horrible death with a fatal error such as org.xml.sax.SAXParseException: Character reference "&#x1" is an invalid XML character. Is there any way around this? Will I have to clean up the XML file before I hand it off to the SAX Parser? If so, is there an elegant way of going about this?

I have several classes that are collected in .xml files like this, but it seems pointless to rewrite the basic methods for loading each up when the generic accessors do it - but how can I enforce the proper root name for each file without hard coding methods for each one? The [System.Xml.Serialization.XmlRoot] seems to be ignored. When called like this... var titles = Repository.List<Models.Title>(); I get the exception <Titlesxmlns=''> was not expected. • Strange Flash AS3 xml Socket behavior

  I have a problem which I can't understand. To understand it I wrote a socket client on AS3 and a server on python/twisted, you can see the code of both applications below. Let's launch two clients at the same time, arrange them so that you can see both windows and press connection button in both windows. Then press and hold any button. What I'm expecting: Client with pressed button sends a message "some data" to the server, then the server sends this message to all the clients(including the original sender) . Then each client moves right the button 'connectButton' and prints a message to the log with time in the following format: "min:secs:milliseconds". What is going wrong: The motion is smooth in the client that sends the message, but in all other clients the motion is jerky. This happens because messages to those clients arrive later than to the original sending client. And if we have three clients (let's name them A,B,C) and we send a message from A, the sending time log of B and C will be the same. Why other clients recieve this messages later than the original sender? By the way, on ubuntu 10.04/chrome all the motion is smooth. • Telerik RadComboBox in a RadGrid Client Side Validation Problem

  Hi all, I'm using the Telerik ASP.net control suite (2008 Q3 I believe, can't upgrade yet). I've got a radcombobox in a Radgrid control (in a GridTemplateColumn's Edit template). If functions ok, but I've got some client side validation on other controls on the grid (that appear to be working without errors). For some reason after the client side validation happens, the combo box stops functioning. No visible js errors, the thing just dies. Anyone seen this and have fix? Google has failed me.   Hi All, This is jetty 7 and xml configured, not embedded. I'm trying to serve a static file, crossdomain.xml, to an app that connects to a datasource I run from jetty. • Using Data Annotations on POCO's with MVC for Remote Validation

  Hi All, I am developing an ASP.NET MVC app and I've been looking into using Data Annotations on my POCO's which are defined in my Service Layer. As long as I have a reference to System.ComponentModel & System.ComponentModel.DataAnnotations this is no problem and what I like about this is that it allows me to reuse my Service Layer in a Win Forms app. I'm now looking to do some Remote Validation using Data Annotations and have taken a look at this article: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff398048(VS.100).aspx However, to use the Data Annotations in this context I need to reference System.Web.MVC, System.Web and System.Web.Routing. This introduces a dependency on the Web DLL's, which limits me somewhat. Can anyone recommend a good clean way to implement Remote Data Validation using Data Annotations that isn't coupled with ASP.NET MVC or maybe suggest a better alternative. Thanks for the help !

  In C# / .NET 2.0, when I serialize an object using XmlSerializer, what's the easiest way to validate the output against an XML schema? The problem is that it is all too easy to write invalid XML with the XmlSerializer, and I can't find a way to validate the XML that does not look cumbersome. Ideally I would expect to set the schema in the XmlSerializer or to have a XmlWriter that validates.
