  • Laptop with Ubuntu 12.04, connected to television with hdmi-cable wont show any content from pc on televison. Nothing happens

    Hello :) I have a laptop with Unbuntu 12.04 I have connected my laptop with my hdmi-cable to the television. But, unlike in Windows 7 i cant find HDMI as an output anywhere in the settings, neither for video nor audio. can anyone please tell me step by step how i do this ? I just want to "stream" videos, youtube etc from my laptop to my telly :) I appreciate all the help that i can get :) Best regards

  • Best approach to creating self-updating content - i.e. chat rooms, shoutboxes and so on

    The only way I can think of to have a shoutbox or similar element update itself when somebody posts a new 'shout' and it needs to be loaded in everyone else's browsers is to have Javascript check every x seconds for any updates... This could get a bit resource intensive though I expect if many people were to leave their browsers open on the page, idling. Is this the only way or am I missing something? I've prefer to stick to only html, css, javascript (AJAX) and php.

    Why is it that the default setting makes it possible for user A to look in the homedir of user B and vice versa? And furthermore..that user can not only look into the homedir of another user, he can also open any document he wants to. It feels very insecure to me. There should be more privacy for users. I know how to prevent this situation, but it puzzles me why this should be possible in the first place.

  • SimpleXMLElement (PHP) throwing error on XML root attributes

    I am working on a project that will take XML data submitted through a textarea input in a form then extract the data and throw it into a database. I am getting errors about the attribute in the root field of my XML (it is the same schema each time, but with different values).     I am getting this slightly cryptic error message: XML filter is applied to non-XML value (function (E, F) {return new (o.fn.init)(E, F);}) when I run this code snippet function justDoIt(arg){ msg = arg.msg; if(arg.ok) jQuery.(".action-button").each(function(idx,el){jQuery(this).removeClass('enabled');} ); } arg is a JSON format response form the server. Anyone knows how to fix this?

    I'm creating windows in a Flex application (AIR) using the mx:Window component. I'd like the window to be automatically sized to its content (because it will be dynamic), in the same way that an mx:Panel or mx:Box would be. I've customized components before, so I'm somewhat familiar with the UIComponent lifecycle, but I'm not quite sure how best to do the logic for auto-sizing a container. If it makes it easier, I'm not expecting that the window auto-size to its content at any time, thought that would be a bonus!

    So IIS7 in Integrated Pipeline mode uses a IsapiFilterModule to shim ISAPI filter DLL's and fire off the correct "events" on the filters, which is quite different than previous versions of IIS or IIS7 in classic mode because this means that HttpModules fire off right along side ISAPI filters in Integrated Pipeline mode. So does anyone happen to know how ISAPI events (http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms524855.aspx) and the HttpModule events (http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms998536.aspx) line up?

    Regarding gridviews that are not bound to a Data Source Control: In most GridView tutorials that I have seen, when just about any GridView event occurs, the end of the event handler will include BindDataGrid(). In some form, these BindDataGrid() functions 1) Grab data from the database 2) Assign any Filter or Sort expressions to the data, and 3) Bind the gridview to that data source (usually a DataView or DataTable. Is there a better way to provide filterable & sortable data to a GridView without having to hit the database so often? Thanks

    I have a Drupal view that displays vacation leaves for a particular employee. I want to have a button or link right on this view that says 'Add Vacation Leave'. When this button/link is clicked, I want the create content form for Vacation Leave to be displayed with the employee's name already filled in. These queries find posts of ANY status: edit.php?category_name=foo edit.php?author=3 edit.php?tag=foo And this query works correctly: edit.php?color=red&post_status=draft But this query finds ONLY Published posts: edit.php?color=red
