• Something like Crystal Reports for PHP?

  I'm looking for something that works in PHP and is similar to crystal reports. I basically need to have a layout setup that means I can output invoices just by inserting the data, and then send it to a printer. The closest I've found so far is PDFB, but It's a bit of a pain as it needs to have precise positioning. I'd like to have something that could generate an invoice based on a template (preferably XML based) and then output it to a form easy for us to print (PostScript would be nice!) It needs to have support for barcodes too (though these can be generated as a GD image) Another requirement is that this must be FLOSS

• How can I set MAXLENGTH on input fields automatically?

  I'm using ASP.NET MVC RC2. I have a set of classes that were auto-generated "Linq-to-SQL Classes", where each class models a table in my database. I have some default "edit" views that use the neat-o Html.TextBoxFor helper extension to render HTML input fields for the columns in a table. However, I notice that there is no MAXLENGTH attribute specified in the generated HTML. A quick google shows that you can add explicit attributes using TextBoxFor etc. but that would mean that I need to hard-code the values (and I need to remember to do it for every input). This seems pretty poor, considering that everything was automatically generated directly from the DB, so the size of the columns is known. (Although, to be fair, the web-side stuff has to work with any model objects, not just with Linq-to-SQL objects). Is there any nice way of getting this to do the right thing?

• Why are events and commands in MVVM so unsupported by WPF / Visual Studio?

  When creating an WPF application with the MVVM pattern, it seems I have to gather the necessary tools myself to even begin the most rudimentary event handling, e.g. AttachedBehaviors I get from here DelegateCommands I get from here Now I'm looking for some way to handle the ItemSelected event in a ComboBox and am getting suggestions of tricks and workarounds to do this (using a XAML trigger or have other elements bound to the selected item, etc.). Ok, I can go down this road, but it seems to be reinventing the wheel. It would be nice to just have an ItemSelected command that I can handle in my ViewModel. Am I missing some set of standard tools or is everyone doing MVVM with WPF basically building and putting together their own collection of tools just so they can do the simplest plumbing tasks with events and commands, things that take only a couple lines in code-behind with a Click="eventHandler"?

• Computing unique index for every poker starting hand

  As there are 52 cards in a deck we know there are 52 choose 2 = 1326 distinct matchups, however in preflop poker this can be bucketed into 169 different hands such as AK offsuit and AK suited as whether it is A hearts K hearts or A spade K spades it makes no difference preflop. My question is, is there a nice mathematical property in which I can uniquely index each of these 169 hands (from 0 to 168 preferably). I am trying to create a look up table as a double[][] = new double [169][169] but have no way of changing a hand representation such as AKs (an Ace and a King of the same suit) to a unique index in this array.

• Rough/near equivalents of Java and .NET technologies/frameworks

  I work in a shop that is a mix of mostly Java and .NET technologists. When discussing new solutions and architectures we often encounter impedance in trying to compare the various technologies, frameworks, APIs etc. in use between the two camps. It seems that each camp knows little about the other and we end up comparing apples to oranges and forgetting about the bushels. While researching the topic I found this: Java -- .Net rough equivalents It's a nice list but it's not quite exhaustive and is missing the key .NET 3.0 technologies and a few other tidbits. To complete that list: what are the near/rough equivalents (or a combination of technologies) in Java to the following in .NET? WCF WPF Silverlight WF Generics Lambda expressions Linq (not Linq-to-SQL) ...have i missed anything else? Note that I omitted technologies that are already covered in the linked article.   I am writing some bookmarklets for a project that I am currently working on and I was wondering what the best practice for writing a bookmarklet was.   I have some polygon data saved in a PostGIS database with projection SRID 27700. geom = models.MultiPolygonField(srid=27700) I want to display the shapes on OpenStreetMap, i.e. with SRID 900913 (I think?). So, two questions: How do I change the code below to output with the right SRID for OpenStreetMap? As a result, I'm posting this to elicit some suggestions and contributions from the users of Subversion. • Is there a tool for generating a DSL parser that does not require a runtime for the resultant parser

  I'm doing a lot of work with a DSLs at the moment and was wondering if anyone knew of a tool that could generate a parser for my bnf specification that does not require a run-time library (pure java source parser)? I'm committed to using XTEXT for a future Eclipse plug-in but I need a nice small version for my library itself and don't want to add another jar dependency. It seems that ANTLR requires a run-time to parse files and I performed a Google search with no avail. Can anyone help out? Thanks, Chris

• SubSonic IQueryable To String Array

  Hey All, I have decided to use SubSonic (v3.0) for the first time and thoroughly enjoy it so far however I seem to have stumbled and I am hoping there is a nice neat solution. I have a users, roles and joining table. SubSonic (ActiveRecord) generated an entity User for my users table. A property of User is UserRoles and is of the type IQueryable this is my joining table. I want to convert the IQueryable column name RoleName to a string array. I have only just started playing with Linq as well and know of ToArray() but seem to be missing something or this isn't the function I want. I could iterate over each item in the UserRoles property but seems a little excessive. I appreciate your help! Cheers.

• Save matrix of double values in OpenCV

  I have an OpenCV matrix of double (CV_32F) values. I'd like to save it to the disk. I know, I could convert it to an 1-Channel 8-bit IplImage and save it. But that way, I loose precision. Is there a way to save it directly in the 32-bit format, without having to convert it first? It also would be nice, if the resulting file would have an image format, so I can view the result as an image.

  Hi, As a nerd, I think it would be nice to have a TeX editor on the iPad. But TeX is a Turing-complete language, and it is arguably a general-purpose compiler/interpreter. Does that make it unacceptable to the App Store? Furthermore, if somebody ports TeX compiler to javascript and runs inside WebKit, does it make acceptable to the App Store? FYI, here's the section of the developer's agreement: 3.3.2 An Application may not itself install or launch other executable code by any means, including without limitation through the use of a plug-in architecture, calling other frameworks, other APIs or otherwise. No interpreted code may be downloaded and used in an Application except for code that is interpreted and run by Apple's Published APIs and builtin interpreter(s).

• Easy Flood Fill

  Some advice, please. I'm just starting out in C#. I've managed to get some shapes created on a Windows form, and now I'd like to fill them with color. In the old C++ I studied years ago, there was a floodfill function that was really easy. It has been an unpleasant realization to find there's not a similar method available in regular old C#. Does anyone have advice for me, or some code, so I can implement filling without understanding GDI+, DirectX, or rest of the avalanche of acronyms that I've run into by researching this on the web? I need to fill irregular shapes, bounded by a certain color. Gradient and transparency control would be nice, but I'd settle for plain old solid fill right now, just to get a modicom of control over this. Any help, code or advice would be really appreciated.

• Adding js to a drupal node form

  In Drupal you can create your own nodetype in a custom module. Doing this you get to create your own form which is all very nice. However if you want to add js the form things get a bit more tricky. If you add the js in the form, the js will only be added form the form when it is loaded. If the user would post the form with validation errors, the form function is not run again and thus the js is not added. Normally you would just create a menu callback and add the js there, but for the node add form, this wont be a possible solution. So what is the best solution for adding js in a node add form, to keep it persistant when the form doesn't validate?

  Hello everyone, I'm writing a compiler that converts source code (written in a small imperative programming language) to Intel AT&T 32-bit assembler. I tend to spend a lot of time debugging, because of nasty offset-mistakes etc. in the generated code, and I would like to know if anyone knows of a tool to "walk through" the generated assembler code step-by-step, visualizing what's on the stack etc. I use Ubuntu Linux as my development platform, and I'm comfortable with the terminal -- a GUI-program would be nice though. Does it exist? Or is there a good reason it doesn't (maybe the problem isn't so straightforward..?) If you have good ideas for approaching debugging tasks in assembly code, I'll be glad to hear from you!

This is quite a nice feature but when you deal with and old project you may be overwhelmed by the number of warnings.   I would like to convert doc/docx documents to semantic HTML. Some wishes/requirements: Semantic HTML such that headers in the document are <h1>, <h2> etc., tables are <table> and so forth. Should preferably be possible to handle headings, lists, tables and images. Graphs and math formulas is a nice extra. • Doesn't have to be converted straight from doc/docx to html, could use an intermediary format, such as xml or docbook. • Should work programatically, and with large number of documents. The closest thing to a solution I've found so far is http://holloway.co.nz/docvert/index.html, but unfortunately there are many a few bugs, small user base and it can't handle a lot of documents.   I've been using Git for the past few months and love it. I looked into how to host it in a corporate environment. Currently I am using _container.RegisterType<EventService, EventService>(new ContainerControlledLifetimeManager()); _container.RegisterInstance<IEventService>(_container.Resolve<EventService>()); _container.RegisterInstance<IEventServiceInformation>(_container.Resolve<EventService>()); which works, but does not look nice.. • Cocoa Key Value Bindings: What are the explanations of the various options for Controller Key?

  When I bind a control to an NSArrayController using Interface Builder, there are a variety of options under the "Controller Key" field in the bindings inspector. I understand what "arrangedObjects" is, and I semi-understand what "selection" is, but I'd love to see a really nice explanation of all the options and when to use each one. The list includes: selectionIndexes, selectionIndex, selectedObject, sortDescriptors, etc. I haven't been able to find a good explanation of these options. I'm having trouble with a button that's bound to target selection, so I'm hoping a much deeper understanding of these Controller Keys might help me debug my issue. Thanks!!!

• Need an ASP.NET MVC long running process with user feedback

  I've been trying to create a controller in my project for delivering what could turn out to be quite complex reports. As a result they can take a relatively long time and a progress bar would certainly help users to know that things are progressing. The report will be kicked off via an AJAX request, with the idea being that periodic JSON requests will get the status and update the progress bar. I've been experimenting with the AsyncController as that seems to be a nice way of running long processes without tying up resources, but it doesn't appear to give me any way of checking on the progress (and seems to block further JSON requests and I haven't discovered why yet). After that I've tried resorting to storing progress in a static variable on the controller and reading the status from that - but to be honest that all seems a bit hacky! All suggestions gratefully accepted!
