  • How to get MVC action to return 404

    I have an action that takes in a string that is used to retrieve some data. If this string results in no data being returned (maybe because it has been deleted), I want to return a 404 and display an error page. I currently just use return a special view that display a friendly error message specific to this action saying that the item was not found. This works fine, but would ideally like to return a 404 status code so search engines know that this content no longer exists and can remove it from the search results. What is the best way to go about this? Is it as simple as setting Response.StatusCode = 404?

  • Please help with IFrame callback

    Hi - thanks for clicking. I am trying to get status feedback using an IFrame for file uploads. I am not trying to get progress or percentages - just when a file is done uploading and if it was a success or failure. THE PROBLEM is that I can't seem to get the server response to appear on the client. I have to following design: I have an iframe on my page: <iframe id="target_frame" src="" style="border:0px; width:0px; height:0px"></iframe> The form tag points to it: <form enctype="multipart/form-data" id="fileUploadForm" name="fileUploadForm" action="picupload.aspx" method="post" target="target_frame"> And the submit button starts a file upload via the iframe: <input id="submit" type="submit" value="upload" /> In the picupload.aspx.cs file, I have a method that returns dynamic data. I then send it to the client: message = data; Response.Write(String.Format("<script language='javascript' type='text/javascript'>window.parent.handleResponse('{0}');</script>", message)); On the client, I have a response handler: function handleResponse(msg) { document.getElementById('statusDiv').innerHTML = msg; } My intent is to see the msg value change for each uploaded file but I never see anything appear in statusDiv, let alone dynamically changing messages. Can somebody please help??

    What url encoding a web browser uses while submitting data to server? with my application i use HttpUtility.UrlEncode(string data) but do not get result as i get with web browser. My application submit some text data to forum. When i am submitting data with web browser (Google Chrome) the exact text i can see submitted to server but when i am submitting using my application it showing some character different. So is this necessary to submit any data to server must be url encoded?

  • Force Response to Download File(s) to Desktop with Ruby?

    I was thinking about making a little crop/resize batch processor online, and wanted to know if there was a way for me to do the following: upload image and specify dimensions click "process" and remote app resizes image image downloads automatically locally to wherever it was I uploaded it (say from my desktop), but with a new name (based on the time for example). This would make it so I could host a free image processor that never stored any data other than tempfiles. Is that possible? Something like Rails' send_file method, but I'm using Sinatra and am looking for something in pure ruby. What's the basic concept behind this? What if I wanted to do this for multiple files? Åssuming I can get multiple files uploaded no problem, how can I download all of them automatically?

  • Why do I have a page hit for 404.php after each legitimate pagehit?

    I'm working with an intranet system that, on each page, checks the user's cookie, verifies that they can see the current page based on database permissions, and records a page hit that includes their id and the page URL. I just noticed that in the pagehits table, I see an entry for 404.php (my custom 404 page specified in the Apache config) one second after each legitimate page hit. Is this probably my fault, or does it have something to do with how Apache decides to load the 404 page? I'm using Apache 2.2.14 (Win32) and PHP 5.3.2.

  • Failed to load resource: the server responded with a status of 406 (Not Acceptable)

    I am trying to send json data and get back json data as well. I've <annotation-driven /> configured in my servlet-context.xml and I am using Spring framework version 3.1.0.RELEASE. When I send the request the browser tells me that it is not happy with the data returned from the server and gives me 406 error. And when I see the response from the server I see the whole 406 page returned by tomcat 6 server.     Hi Guys, I am building a widget for my users and trying to get it working however I keep running into a X-Domain issue with this header. httpfox gives me - NS_ERROR_DOM_BAD_URI - and on further investigation I find that its Access-Control-Request-Method: GET Access-Control-Request-Header: x-requested-with I am not sure why its not loading but I basically call a script and then I am trying to grab some html to load it but it gets blocked with the above headers. How can I get around this prob ?

  • What's the easy way to test for 304 reponses?

    I need to test if my 304 responses are working, but my development environment is pretty hard set on force no-cache. Is there an easy way to modify the max-age value of the cache-control header before it goes out? I'm perhaps a bit optimistic in hoping chrome (or an extension, or FF) has a console command letting me alter the if-modified-since header then send the request. Maybe paste something into a telnet connection?

  • Having trouble reading XML file from Windows server. Works on Linux

    I'm parsing an XML file in an android app. My success varies depending upon where the file is hosted. After hosting the file on 4 different servers (2 Linux, 2 Windows), I discovered that when the xml is hosted on a Linux server, the app works. When it's hosted on a Windows server, I am unable to parse correctly. Instead of reading the expected xml tags, it reads HTML tags (, , , etc). I'm not sure why it doesn't work on Windows servers, or if that is even the issue and not just a coincidence. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.   • Does GAE/OpenID/OAuth support xmlhttp proxy?

    Currently, my code would construct the GWT form, which user would submit directly to openId (or any authenticaiton service). Such a method works fine. However, what if I had the gwt page server access the OpenID provider, is there a way/strategy for the server to mediate authentication between its client and the auth provider? I wish to know the answers with respect to GAE as the proxy and, regardless if GAE or Tomcat is the intended proxy, answers wrt Google Accounts OpenID OAuth If so, it would be wonderful if someone could describe the installation strategy.

  • Codeigniter error logs show a 404 non-existing images directory...need to worry?

    I've recently started logging my errors through codeIgniter. Since doing so, I have noticed a lot of 404 errors for directories that don't exist. For example: ERROR - 2010-05-15 21:06:26 -- 404 Page Not Found -- someController/images Where someController is, obviously, a controller. The problem is, there are no functions within that controller called images, nor are there any links to a directory by that name. Could this be that someone is trying to hack my site? If so, do I need to worry? If not, why is this happening? Thanks, and forgive the newby-ness.

  • Pushing notifications to a JavaScript?

    I'm just wondering if there is a way to have a server push information to a JavaScript function. Essentially I have a Dashboard-type page that has a javaScript function to get updates from the server and update the dashboard. I would like my server to be able to "ping" the JS. I don't even know how that could be possible (I'm guessing Twitter and Facebook use polling?), but I'd thought I ask. I heard of Comet, but I don't know if that works with a plain standard IIS 7 installation? (It's a SharePoint 2010 site if that matters in any way) If I understand it correctly, Comet is essentially a constantly open connection, so it seems like it's actually the opposite of what I want (reducing # of requests and therefore load)

  • Javascript XMLHttpRequest Post method

    Hey So I have a question about posting using an XMLHttpRequest. In theory, if I am to post a username and password to an https domain (which I have yet to get working, unfortunately) would the responseText then change to the next website, or should the text fields become filled in? What normally happens is you navigate to this page via browser, enter a username and password, and it uses a POST method when the submit button is clicked, doing some authentication under the hood and returning a different page.   • is it possible to continue a file upload after a browser has been quit?

    If a user starts uploading a file (in a web app), and they close their browser before the upload completes, what happens? My guess would be that the upload gets abandoned, and the server has some garbage cleaning mechanism that kicks in eventually, but I'm not sure. Any difference between servers or server languages? Any difference between quitting the browser and just closing a window?

    So private IP addresses are 192.168.00 ~ 192.168.255.255 or 10.0.0.0 or 172.16.0.0 ~ 172.31.255.255 If I accepted a client to my serversocket, I can get the client's remoteIp address by using socket.getremotesocketaddress(); But I suspect the IP address that I'm getting from this method is only the public IP address and it must have more than one client using same public IP as this one (one like you see when you go on to the website www.whatismyip.com). So if I want to make sure that my packet is delivered to the right person using some IP address or otherthing that uniquely identifies a person, what should I have to do?
