  • Is Md5 Encryption Symmetric or Asymmetric?

    For my iPhone application, Apple wants to know if my password encryption (md5) is greater then 64-bit symmetric or greater then 1024-bit symmetric. I have not been able to find it online, so I am wondering if anyone knows the answer. In addition, is this considered an appropriate encryption technology for passwords, or should I use something different? Thanks for any help!

  • PostgreSQL pg_hba.conf with "password" auth wouldn't work with PHP pg_connect?

    I've recently experimented with the settings in pg_hba.conf. I read the PostgreSQL documentation and I though that the "password" auth method is what I want. There are many people that have access to the server PostgreSQL is working on so I don't want the "trust" method. So I changed it. But then PHP stopped working with the database. The message I get is "Warning: pg_connect(): Unable to connect to PostgreSQL server: FATAL: password authentication failed for user "myuser" in /my/path/to/connection/class.php on line 35". It is kind of strange because I can connect via phppgadmin without any problems and also I can connect from my home computer with psql - again without any problems. This is my pg_hba.conf: # TYPE DATABASE USER CIDR-ADDRESS METHOD # "local" is for Unix domain socket connections only local all all password # IPv4 local connections: host all all 127.0.0.1/32 password # IPv6 local connections: host all all ::1/128 password The connection string I'm using with pg_conenct is: $connect_string = "host=localhost port=5432 dbname=mydbname user=auser password=apassword"; $dbConnection = pg_connect($connection_string); Does anybody know why is this happening ? Did I misconfigured something ?

  • PHP: Condense array of similar strings into one merged array

    Hi everyone. Working with an array of dates (opening times for a business). I want to condense them to their briefest possible form. So far, I started out with this structure Array ( [Mon] => 12noon-2:45pm, 5:30pm-10:30pm [Tue] => 12noon-2:45pm, 5:30pm-10:30pm [Wed] => 12noon-2:45pm, 5:30pm-10:30pm [Thu] => 12noon-2:45pm, 5:30pm-10:30pm [Fri] => 12noon-2:45pm, 5:30pm-10:30pm [Sat] => 12noon-11pm [Sun] => 12noon-9:30pm ) What I want to achieve is this: Array ( [Mon-Fri] => 12noon-2:45pm, 5:30pm-10:30pm [Sat] => 12noon-11pm [Sun] => 12noon-9:30pm ) I've tried writing a recursive function and have managed to output this so far: Array ( [Mon-Fri] => 12noon-2:45pm, 5:30pm-10:30pm [Tue-Fri] => 12noon-2:45pm, 5:30pm-10:30pm [Wed-Fri] => 12noon-2:45pm, 5:30pm-10:30pm [Thu-Fri] => 12noon-2:45pm, 5:30pm-10:30pm [Sat] => 12noon-11pm [Sun] => 12noon-9:30pm ) Can anybody see a simple way of comparing the values and combining the keys where they're similar? My recursive function is basically two nested foreach() loops - not very elegant.   • Performance optimization for SQL Server: decrease stored procedures execution time or unload the ser

    We have a web service which provides search over hotels. There is a problem with performance: a single request to the service takes around 5000 ms. Almost all of the time is spent in database by executing storing procedures. During the request our server (mssql2008) consumes ~90% of the processor time. When 2 requests are made in parallel the average time grows and is around 7000 ms. When number of request is increasing, the average time of response is increasing as well. We have 20-30 requests per minute. Which kind of optimization is the best in this case having in mind that the goal is to provide stable response time for the service: 1) Try to decrease the stored procedures execution time 2) Try to find the way how to unload the server It is interesting to hear from people who deal with booking sites.

  • Ways to recover data from external hard drive

    I use an external hard disk for backup of my mac with time machine (OS 10.5.8). I have made something wrong and I have found important folders in the recycler bin. These folders come from external hd. They are backup folders (backups.backupdb) and others. I have tried to restore them draggin and dropping. Some of them came back in the external hd in a while. For the others it takes hours to "preparing to copy" and then it has said "there's no space to copy" on ext hd. It's strange. Files are now in the recycle bin (180gb), and the ext had should have lot of free space. But it isn't really so. Ext hd is not free of space even if these files are in the bin. I ask for advices. I'm not also able to use time machine now (and i have "lost" old backups) for the same reason. Ext hd says that it has not free space.. Thanks

  • VT-x not enabled on 2010 Mac Pro

    To start I had a Hackintosh as per the instructions from Lifehacker.com before and moved everything to a new 2010 8 Core Mac Pro. I opted for a restore from the time machine backup rather than using the migration assistance. I believe this may have caused more problems but one in particular is the lack of VT-x support. When I checked Parallels Desktop under "Host Hardware" information, I get the following that shows that VT-x isn't enabled. <Cpu dyn_lists=""> <Number>16</Number> <Model>Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU E5620 @ 2.40GHz</Model> <Mode>1</Mode> <Speed>2400</Speed> <VtxEnabled>0</VtxEnabled> <VtxMode>1</VtxMode> 1) Does Parallels Desktop support using VT-x? 2) Does this setting show that my VT-x isn't enabled? 3) Is there a way of fixing it so that it is enabled? 4) Is there a way of using my Time Machine backup as if I'm doing a restore using migration assistance and just restore the files and settings?

    In my android program, I have a spinner that allows the user to select different times. Each selection is processed with Joda time to subtract the minutes. It works fine for minutes 0 to 59 and 61 and greater. However, when 60 minutes is subtracted, the time is not updated, and the original time is shown. How do I get Joda time to subtract 60 minutes?     Hello, what is PHP's safest encrypt/decrypt method, in use with MySQL - to store let's say passwords? Of course, not for portal purposes.     Hi..guys I am trying to insert date and time into mysql datetime field. When a user select a date and time, it will generate two POST variables. I have searched internet but still not sure how to do it. My code. //date value is 05/25/2010 //time value is 10:00 $date=$_POST['date']; $time=$_POST['time']; $datetime=$date.$time If I insert $datetime into mysql, the date appears to be 0000-00-00:00:00:00 I appreciate it if anyone could help me about this.     Hi I have created a Google Spreadsheet form in which for one of the fields I get the time (hh:mm:ss) in 24-hour format. I am using Google Apps Scripts to read values from this spreadsheet and put it into another file. But the other file gets the entire date (don't know from where) and shows a date from 1899. Also the time is shown in PDT (not my time zone). Even the time it prints is not correct How do I read the column value as a string and put it in the other file OR get just the time from the column value (and the correct time) I am using a simple row[0][3] to get the values from an array after doing range.getValues() Thanks.

    I want to get a linegraph in R which has Time along x and temperature along y. Originally I had the data in dd/mm/yyyy hh:mm format, with a time point every 30 minutes. https://www.dropbox.com/s/q35y1rfila0va1h/Data_logger_S65a_Ania.csv Since I couldn't find a way of reading this into R, I formatted the data to make it into dd/mm/yyyy and added a column 'time' with 1-48 for all the time points for each day https://www.dropbox.com/s/65ogxzyvuzteqxv/temp.csv This is what I have so far: temp<-read.csv("temp.csv",as.is=T) temp$date<-as.Date(temp$date, format="%d/%m/%Y") #inputting date in correct format plot(temperature ~ date, temp, type="n") #drawing a blank plot with axes, but without data lines(temp$date, temp$temperature,type="o") #type o is a line overlaid on top of points. This stacks the points up vertically, which is not what I want, and stacks all the time points (1-48) for each day all together on the same date. Any advice would be much appreciated on how to get this horizontal, and ordered by time as well as date.
