• Logitech QuickCam Pro 9000 & Windows 7 64-bit failing miserably

  I am trying to install a Logitech QuickCam Pro 9000 webcam to Windows 7 64-bit. If I do it without using the Logitech drivers but instead the Windows Update ones, the camera works with low frame rate and without face tracking and all other bells and whistles that it's full driver provides. The moment I install the latest official Logitech driver, the problems begin: Camera works fine, until I decide to go to audio settings of the LWS panel or Windows'. Then LWS freezes and with it everything that tries to output audio. I am not able to open Playback/Recording devices window (it just doesn't appear) and system gets unstable and slow with LWS.EXE process not been able to close forcefully. If I reboot and forget the camera connected, this situation continues and system gets unstable from the beginning. If I reboot without the camera connected, everything works fine until I connect it and try to do something with audio settings of Windows or LWS panel. I should note, that until the freezing occurs, camera works as expected, with full frame rate, face tracking and everything that is expected to do. The soundcard is the ASUS SupremeFX II of the ASUS Striker II Extreme motherboard. Any ideas of what is causing this or what else to try so I can make it work as advertised? Thank you.

• Trying to connect simple VB6 ADO to SQL Server 2008

  We have a VB6 App that -for current purposes - is very basic ADO: Dim a New ADODB.Recorset, set some basic properties like Cursor Location and Lock Type, set a Connection String and a .Source like "Select * from CustomerMaster", and .OPEN - nothing fancy here! Yet, on a new SBS installation with SQL Server 2008 across 2 Servers (one for Apps, the other dedicated to SQL!), it dies/hangs/crashes if you try to run such a Query from anything but the SQL Sever box. Initially, we were using the SQLOLEDB.1 driver, which would crash/hang the entire SQL Server after about 4 such queries (built a simple 6 line App just for this purpose). Then switched to the NATIVE SQL driver, which did allow us unlimited, happy queries - until you did the first Change/Update - THEN it would corrupt the SQL Server if you exited and tried to go back in. All this 'corruption' is happening from the 'App Server' of the SBS pair, and I presume that the App Server (also installed in tandem with the SQL server this week) has the latest MDACs, etc. And running it from a 'lowly XP workstation' is (obviously) no better. ANY ideas??? -Henry

• How can I get Windows 7 to work with two Nvidia graphics cards with different drivers?

  This is similar to this question, but I am using more similar cards with Windows 7. I just purchased a Zotac Nvidia GeForce 7200 GS. I have a motherboard with two PCI Express x16 slots. There is already an MSI Nvidia GeForce 8800 GTS being used as the primary card, driving two LCD monitors. I would like the Zotac to output to a TV via DVI-out. Unfortunately, when Windows detects the Zotac and installs its drivers, or I manually install them, Windows stops being able to boot up. If I remove them and re-install the MSI 8800 drivers, I can boot again, but Windows can no longer see the Zotac 7200--it shows up as a yellow triangle in Device Manager. I've read conflicting reports about this. Some people claim that Windows 7 will support multiple heterogeneous graphics card drivers, as long as they are all using the same driver API ("WDDM?"). Others say that they have to be using the exact same driver, or it won't work. Others claim that you have to use the exact same card. which is it, exactly? I know I can run the MSI 8800 in SLI if I purchase another, but I don't need that kind of power--I just need HD-out to my television. I read somewhere that running two cards in SLI precludes you from using 100% of their output ports, so I'm not sure if that's an option. I suppose I could also run two MSI 8800's without SLI, but again, that's more power than I need (and more money than I'd like to spend). Also, I don't think this exact model is even manufactured anymore. Any ideas?

• MySQL ODBC + SSL with only the SSL Cipher option?

  Does anybody know how I can have an SSL encrypted connection over MySQL ODBC without the cert options? So I asked my web host to setup a MySQL+SSL connection so that we can access our website's database via ODBC or MySQL Query Browser (or the likes). I am able to get an encrypted connection with the standard mysql client and MySQL Query Browser, but I can't get the ODBC connection to work. Looking for a little help... The way they set it up is a little different from the way I have read about on the interweb. The host didn't setup a cert, or at least I don't think so - I don't need to specify any cert options in my connection. I just need to specify the ssl cipher. Here is how I connect with the mysql client: mysql -h myhost.com -u myuser --ssl-cipher=3DES -p That works to get an encrypted connection. At least I am pretty sure it works because when I run mysql> \s I get SSL: Cipher in use is EDH-RSA-DES-CBC3-SHA Also, when I put EDH-RSA-DES-CBC3-SHA into the SSL Cipher field of MySQL Query Browser (without specifying any other SSL options) it connects just fine. But then when I try to do the same thing with my MySQL ODBC 3.5.1 and 5.1 I get a generic error. Here is the error from the 5.1 Driver. • Turning on Bluetooth disables wifi on Yoga 2

  I have a Lenovo Yoga 2. The moment that I turn on bluetooth, the wifi drops out - I lose connection, and connecting again shows "connection failed". If I turn the bluetooth off, wifi can reestablish fine. I've tried lots of different combinations of drivers for both the wifi and the bluetooth, but no combination has has changed this behavior yet. I've read some speculation that the cards have insufficient shielding, but that seems like kind of a large flaw to ship with. I've tried with a Carbon X1, a Yoga 2 Pro, and a Yoga 2 all next to each other on the desk while running InSSIDer. The X1 and the Y2P don't lose wifi connection when the bluetooth turns on, but the Y2 does immediately. The Y2P and the Y2 are running the same drivers for bluetooth and wifi, and appear to have the same wireless card internally. During the failure state, InSSIDer still sees signal strength for my network, but I cannot connect to it. stats: the card that comes in the laptop is an Intel Wireless-N 7260 Intel Bluetooth driver is at 17.0.1401.422 Intel Wireless driver is at 17.0.2.5 Windows 8.1 x64 Home wifi is a Medialink MWN-WAPR150N

• Configuring three monitors with two Radeon X1600/X1650 graphics cards under Ubuntu

  I have three SyncMaster 932a monitors I want to use with two Radeon X1600/X1650 cards under Linux. I am running X.org X Server 1.6.0, as provided by Ubuntu's Wubi installer. • MS Excel 2010 - Using DSN + 32 bit drivers

  I need some advice as im running into a problem and so far i have been unable to find a solution. We have a set of reports developed in MS Excel that use DSN file to connect to data sources to retrieve data, these work fine on 32 / 64bit systems, however we are moving to a terminal server environment using windows 2008 R2 64Bit. The reports fail to run using the DSN's within this environment if we only have the 32bit drivers installed and configured in the ODBC settings, the minute we install the 64Bit drivers the software works. Is there a way / Method of getting Excel or the DSN file to NOT use the 64Bit driver, but force it to use the 32bit driver. ANSWERED - But due to low user score i cannot "answer" my own question... Sadly there is no way to-do what i want to-do, without a lot of very nasty and not 100% perfect reg hacks. • Catastrophic Failure opening ODBC via Citrix

  We recently had our Citrix server crash unexpectedly. When it came back up, there was a new issue -- every ODBC connection fails with "Catastrophic Failure" (0x8000FFFF). The issue is limited to Citrix / ICA connections; logging in as the same user via RDP works as usual. • Installed Paragon HFS+ for Windows 8, now my pc won't recognize the external firewire drive

  I'm not incredibly knowledgeable about computers and I really need some help. Just got a Seagate external firewire drive this morning. I downloaded the necessary pc driver (Paragon HFS+ for Windows 8) through their website per the instructions that came with the drive. After installation, I restarted and the pc recognized the firewire drive just fine. About three hours into copying files from my pc to the firewire drive, it gave me an error and told me the files couldn't be copied. When I clicked to get out of the message, the computer crashed. After an hour of it trying to repair itself in safe mode, it restored me to an earlier version before the system crashed. Here's my current dilemma: The Paragon HFS+ is still showing up in my programs as installed, but the Device Manager is not recognizing the drive. When I try to uninstall and reinstall Paragon, it interrupts me with a message saying "The setup must update files or services that cannot be updated while the system is running" and basically gives me the finger. I have no idea what to do now, as it won't let me uninstall and reinstall Paragon, and I have no idea why it crashed my computer in the first place. Is there possibly another Mac - PC firewire driver I can try downloading instead? I really don't know what I'm doing and any help would be greatly appreciated.

  I have a rather strange problem. We covered all the obvious hardware related issues (different nic, eth cable and switch) however I cannot seem to stop eth dropping packets. I have 4 servers all exactly the same. driver: e1000e version: 1.2.20-k2 firmware-version: 1.8-0 bus-info: 0000:06:00.0 They are all running the latest kernel(2.6.32-5-amd64). • Windows Media Center showing Jerky Video on PC

  I had to repave my Windows 7 x64 box last week due to a hard drive crash, and for a while everything was running perfectly but now all videos in Windows Media Center are jerky (the sound is fine, they just seem to skip a ton of frames all the time). This is on the local machine, but the same thing happens when I try to stream to my Xbox. The videos all show fine in VLC and Windows Media Player (however exhibit the same problem in Quicktime). I guess I must have installed something recently (in the process of getting all the apps I usually have running on my PC) that caused this but for the life of me I can't figure it out. I have updated to the latest video driver (and then rolled back to the standard Windows 7 driver), I have rolled back all the other drivers that I have installed (I believe). I have uninstalled all the codec packs (I also run TVersity, so I have the TVersity codec pack installed), and I uninstalled TVersity. Nothing seems to help. I have uninstalled windows media center, and reinstalled it from the Programs and Features. I have basically ran out of things to try to fix this, and am almost thinking about reinstalling Windows again. Any suggestions? Edit Specs on the PC (which I figured was unimportant since everything used to work perfectly): Intel Core 2 CPU 6600 @ 2.4 Ghz Nvidia GTS 8800 Built in realtek-audio soundcard 4GB Ram Codecs which are failing: All that I have tried, but at least Xvid, Mpgv (mpeg2 video from a camera), and Wmv (only kinds that I have ready access to).

• Logitech Performance MX Mouse Jumps on OS X Lion (10.7.4)

  I have a Logitech MX Revolution wireless mouse that I am trying to use with OS X Lion. Everything is working except for one problem... there is a small, but quite noticeable, jump when the mouse cursor is moved. The problem is mostly prevalent when dragging and dropping files or trying to highlight items. It makes performing any task with the mouse accurately next to impossible. I did quite a bit of looking and found that all kinds of people have had mouse issues with OS X. I've tried all of the following with absolutely no success: Using the official drivers from Logitech (these performed worse than the default mouse drivers in OS X) Using SteerMouse as a third party mouse driver. This worked ever so slightly better than the default driver, but still suffered quite frequently from the skipping problem Cleaning the sensor on the mouse and ensuring it's not the result of the surface that it's being used on. Tested the mouse on a Windows machine. The mouse worked absolutely flawlessly on the other machine. Changed the channel that my wireless router operates on by the off chance my problems were the result of interference. This also had no effect. I can't think of anything else that could possibly interfere with the mouse. I'm am out of ideas on what to try, so I would really appreciate if anyone has any suggestions. I should also mention that an old wired mouse I had laying around worked just fine when I plugged it in. This really isn't the best solution, however, as I really prefer the MX Revolution.

• Windows 7 Install: No drives were found

  I was building a computer for my wife with an older SATA hard drive that I had lying around, and when attempting to do a new install of Windows 7 on it, the installer says: "No drives were found. Click Load Driver to provide a mass storage driver for installation." I ran the diskpart command: list volume, and it showed up as "Raw". So, I formatted it to NTFS and then it showed up as a healthy drive in diskpart. I also ran check disk on it with no errors. Windows 7 installer STILL can't find the drive. As far as BIOS settings, I have tried "Native IDE", AHCI, and Both AHCI/IDE mode (SATA slots 0-2 AHCI, 3-4 IDE). I tried all combinations... still "no drives were found". At this point, I'm just scratching my head. Using the installation dos window, I can see and talk to the drive just fine, but the installer just doesn't see it at all. I've even written folders and files to the drive, and it still "can't be seen". Any help would be great. Items of interest: Motherboard model: Gigabyte GA-A75M-UD2H - BIOS Version F5 (latest) Hard drive model: 80GB Seagate Barracuda 7200.7 ST380817AS (no other drives) Installing Windows 7 using a FAT32 formatted USB Drive, which I've used for other installs

• Ubuntu network card problem.

  Hello folks, Several days ago, I installed Ubuntu 9.10 onto my Acer Aspire 3100 laptop, running it alongside Widows Vista as a dual-bootable system. Creation of the Ubuntu boot CD went fine, and the installation onto my hard drive was flawless. Ubuntu opens and behaves as I would expect, except for one little problem. For reasons unknown to me, Ubuntu is not communicating with my laptop's networking hardware, and I have no internet connectivity, it works fine under Windows Vista. Up in the right side of the Ubuntu desktop, I click on the network icon and it does not show a wireless connection at all. At home, where I use a dialup modem, I also see no means of getting online. My modem is an HDAUDIO Soft Data Fax Modem with Smart CP,manufactured by CXT (Conexant Systems Inc., file version 4.0.13.0, and the driver version is 7.58.0.0). I am an advanced computer user, but I am not a programmer. I seek a solution that is user-friendly for normal people, something equivalent to a driver that I can easily install or activate that will allow Ubuntu to see my hardware and get me connected. Can anyone help me over this hopefully-little glitch My processor is a Mobile AMD Sempron Processor 3500+ at 1.80 GHz, 1.50 GB RAM, and a 32-bit Operating System.

• Adjust output Brightness/Gamma/Colors in Gnome

  We have a desktop system running Ubuntu 8.04.4, and it is connected to a standard desktop LCD monitor. Unfortunately, in 8.04.4, the brightness of the image is cranked way up. It appears to be a graphics driver issue. Unfortunately, installing a newer GPU driver for this Intel GPU is very difficult to do. So, I am looking for a software (or config file?) solution to achieve this. Note: Ubuntu 9.10 and higher do not exhibit this issue, so this is not a hardware problem. Note: VNC-ing to this machine from another does not exhibit this issue either. Also, I installed "DisplayCalibrator.app", and it does not work very well (the app comes up, but the contents of the window are blank). Is there anything that I can add to the xorg.conf file to correct this issue? Also, this solution: http://superuser.com/questions/96539/adjust-contrast-and-brightness-in-ubuntu did not resove my issue. Thank you all for the help!

• Defining Virtual and Real User Directories with Dovecot & Postfix

  Following a wobble described in this question we now have virtual and real users authenticating with Dovecot, the problem now is that the real users (who have been on the system for years) can no longer access their mail. I'm guessing that it is because Dovecot is configured to point to the virtual mailboxes but not the real mail boxes. These are snippets from the config files: /etc/dovecot/dovecot.conf !include conf.d/*.conf /etc/dovecot/conf.d/10-auth.cong passdb { driver = passwd-file # Path for passwd-file. Also set the default password scheme. args = scheme=cram-md5 /etc/cram-md5.pwd } userdb { driver=static #args = mail_uid=dovecot mail_gid=dovecot /etc/dovecot/userdb args = uid=vmail gid=vmail home=/var/spool/vhosts/%d/%n /etc/dovecot/userdb } [email protected]:::::/var/spool/vhosts/virtualdomain.com/:/bin/false:: We think the problem is that the Dovecot file 10-auth.conf does not contain a method of accessing the mailboxes for the real users. We have looked around on this site, dovecot.org and done the usual googling but cannot find anywhere that describes how to set up virtual users on alongside legacy real users. Any help would be appreciated, especially by our real users who would like the contents of their inboxes to be available! If any further config is required, please let me know.

• Screen occasionally flashes black when under load, sometimes does not recover

  I've built a brand new machine, but to my horror my monitor occasionally flashes black for around a second, then returning to normal. This happens under load (watching videos / playing games) but only sometimes; e.g. it doesn't occur in "Batman: Arkham City" but does in "XCOM: Enemy Unknown". When watching videos, it also occurs when not watching them full-screen, and it sometimes even occurs when the machine isn't doing anything, just sitting at the desktop and moving the mouse around. Has anyone ran into this problem and knows of any solution? Additionally, sometimes after the black screen, it won't return to normal, instead turning completely corrupt. In these cases even quitting the application doesn't help, but physically disconnecting and reconnecting the monitor fixes the problem. This problem did not occur on my earlier machine which used the same physical monitor. Additional details: Windows Server 2012, configured as Windows 8, with latest updates installed NVIDIA GeForce GTX 660 Ti, with latest driver installed Ample amounts of CPU and RAM for playing the above games and for watching videos. • Ubuntu xrandr rotate issue

  I've just bought a second monitor for my PC which happens to be a pivot monitor. I've already read lots of forums related to my problem but haven't come across a solution - I have the same symptoms as dozens of posts but no matter whatever I try it just doesn't work. I've already changed the xorg.conf file and added in the device section just under Driver "nvidia" the following for my second monitor: Option "RandRRotation" "on" When I save and reboot I try to rotate my screen with the nvidia X server settings by choosing the second monitor and clicking either "left" or "right" for the rotation. It immediately exits the nvidia settings window and does nothing. I tried within the terminal by typing: xrandr -o right I get the following error: X Error of failed request: BadMatch (invalid parameter attributes) Major opcode of failed request: 154 (RANDR) Minor opcode of failed request: 2 (RRSetScreenConfig) Serial number of failed request: 14 Current serial number in output stream: 14 I actually manage to rotate it with Option "Rotate" "CCW" instead of "RandRRotation". The problem with this solution is that you get the second monitor in the right position, but any window you open on that screen is practically unchangeable. You can't change the size nor move it, making it useless for reading PDFs, which is the main reason why I bought this second screen to help me write my thesis. • Why can't I get out of display mirror mode?

  I've been running Ubuntu (10.04.1 LTS, 64-bit) for a while and just replaced my hardware with a faster machine with an ATI Radeon HD 5700 video card. I've got twin 1920 x 1080 displays. I downloaded the latest driver (ati-driver-installer-10-9-x86.x86_64.run) from the ATI web site and installed that. I've gone through a few rounds of playing with /etc/X11/xorg.conf, and can't get things right. At the moment, it's in display mirroring mode, and I can't figure out how to get it out of mirror mode. If I run Monitor Preferences, there's a "Same image in all monitors" checkbox. If I uncheck that, the little preview window switches to show two monitors. When I click Apply, it asks me to log out and log back in again. When I do that, I'm right back to mirrored mode. What's really weird is that I'm currently running a copy of xorg.conf from a coworker's machine. He's got identical hardware, and his display works fine. So, I'm inclined to think there's something else going on other than the conf file. Any ideas what might be wrong?

• HP Laptop recognizes hard drive just long enough to install windows

  I have an HP laptop, DV6500 (CTO). It refused to boot one day, so I ran some diagnostics (a friend lent me "Hirens Boot Disk", "UBCD" and "PC DR 6"). Everything passed, except for the hdd. I replaced the HDD with a used drive of unknown condition. Installed windows with no problems. Installed the wireless driver, tried to reboot ... no luck. So I went to Best Buy, bought a brand new Western Digital 320gb HDD. Put it in the machine, installed windows (vista home premium). Installed the wired networking driver. Tried to reboot. No luck. Put the first hdd back in the machine, reinstalled windows. Started to install some drivers, went to reboot, and the machine won't come back to life. Put the second hdd in the machine, rinse wash and repeat. I've replaced the memory, even though it passed diagnostics. Problem exists with both brand new memory, and old memory. The BIOS recognizes the hard drive. The computer freezes directly after the bios splash screen, and there is no hard drive activity light. I've tried two linux live distros (gentoo and ubuntu). Neither would run on this laptop, but will on a different HP laptop. UBCD and Hirens Boot Disk both ran, as did PC Doctor 6 which refuses to test anything (gets stuck at "enumerating hard disks"). Is there anything else I can try?

• External HDD incorrectly detected as internal - how change to enable hot swap/eject?

  Hi All, I have win 7 x64 Home Prem. The HDD is a seagate barracuda, 7200.7 ST3120827AS. 3.5", Serial: 3ms006n6, Firmware: 3.42 (no further updates) NexStar CX External case (drivers installed). I have three drives: WD320 with OS installed WD750 data storage (internal) seagate 120 (external) - connected via esata board connected to sata on motherboard (MSI p43 neo) Tried uninstalling HDD in device manager to no effect. Also the internal WD750 is detected as an external drive and win taskbar icon allows for it to be ejected (unlike the seagate). All drives are configured - Online, Simple, Basic, NTFS, Active, Primary Partition (except c drive). The seagate was previously used as a primary disk with XP operating system so I deleted the volume and created/reformatted (not quick). HDD is no longer "Active". But did not fix problem. Background Originally, I installed win 7 with the bios set to IDE and forgot to install the chipset drivers. Then I changed win 7 to install the AHCI drivers, changed the bios to AHCI and rebooted. Win 7 loaded drivers but WD HDD gave problems/crashed. I installed chipset drivers and latest intell storage matrix software thingie (in safe mode). Everything worked fine after that except for the problem of not corrrectly detecting the external drive] I have noticed that under the driver properties (and similarly in the registry) the two drives are configured differently (e.g. in driver details property capabilities for the WD the value is set to 0000006, CM_DEVCAP_REMOVABLE & EJECTSUPPORTED - whereas the seagate shows 0000080 & CM_DEVCAP_SURPRISEREMOVALOK). Any easy way to configure things? • For Windows XP: How to uninstall Broadcom Bluetooth software that won't disappear

  Hello, my situation is similar to this question for Windows 7, except my OS is Windows XP SP3. I have recently realized I made the mistake of buying a Bluetooth adapter and installing the Broadcom/Widcomm Bluetooth stack driver software. Now that I know that the software is no good, I want to install it (so I can install the Toshiba stack for the Cirago adapter). I've attempted to uninstall all Bluetooth driver software in Device Manager, and I don't see any remnants of any Bluetooth drivers there. I don't see any folder names Broadcom or Widcomm in Program Files folder, either. • How can I remove all drivers and other files related to a USB Mass Storage device?

  I have a flash drive here that does not work on one OS on computer - let's call it the desktop Windows 7. It works fine on another computer - laptop Windows 7. It also works fine on Windows 8 on the same desktop computer. Other flash drives work fine under desktop Windows 7. So not a hardware issue, not a generic USB Mass Storage driver issue. It's something specific to this drive. On desktop Windows 7, I can connect the drive but no volume comes up under Windows Explorer. Ditto for Disk Management. With diskpart, loading hangs until I unplug the drive, if I replug it and try list disk it hangs again. If I unplug the drive at this point, list disk prints out all attached drives - including the just removed flash drive. The drive consistently appears under Device Manager, but uninstalling the drivers, restarting and reinstalling the drivers (by inserting the drive) only works for the first insertion. After that it fails again. I get the feeling that the driver files are not actually removed, and are corrupted, meaning every reinstall it's the same corrupted drivers being installed. Is there any way to remove these drivers completely? Or perhaps some other setting Windows 7 retains? Formatting the drive through another computer/OS does not help. I've also tried a complete wipe and rebuild of the MBR and single partition. The allocation unit size makes no difference; neither does a NTFS format. This is a relatively small matter, and I would not like to reinstall the entire OS!

• Ubuntu 10.04 network manager issues

  I was using the default network manager to connect to my wi-fi network, but if the connection is dropped or router restarted the network manager wont reconnect automatically after i guess a couple of tries and just gives a pop-up to connect manually . To avoid this annoyance I installed WICD but though it does try to reconnect to the network after a drop in connection it is unable to resolve the ip address and i am left with an even bigger annoyance . 1. Is there a way to counter either of these issues ? 2. Something like a background process that will check network status periodically and then try to connect to a favored network ? • How do I recover drivers from other hard disk

  The drivers for a Cardbus (PCMCIA) card that gives me 2 USB 2.0 ports are on the hard disk from my old laptop. I have lost the driver CD. I have a way to get files from that other hard disk. Which files do I need? The drivers for the card used to be on the following website - the information is still there, except the download links don't work: http://www.ht-link.com/en/DownView.asp?ID=10 - The drivers I need are the first listing - The Win XP drivers for the HT-112NEC. My e-mails to them have not been answered. The information on this card is here http://www.ht-link.com/en/ProductView.asp?ID=106 I already tried connecting that other drive to my new laptop (via USB) and adding the drive to the search criteria when selecting update driver in the Device Manager. It says there isn't a better match, and if I select manual the matching device is not listed. (I don't think "manual" sees drivers on the external hard disk - but only ones on the main drive and/or found listed in the registry.) I would try 'have disk' if I knew exactly what file to point to on the external drive. The drivers are on that hard disk - I installed them there, and used that card on that computer. The new laptop has Windows XP Pro SP3, the old one had Pro SP2 Thanks for any help.
