• Chrome - Why am I automatically authenticated to a web app even after clearing browser cookies?

  I am accessing a web application using Chrome. If I sign out of the app and clear all Chrome history/cookies/etc (even Flash cookies which are now handled by Chrome in the same Clear History area) and then re-access the site, I am automatically logged in without being prompted for credentials. I then launched Chrome in Incognito mode and was able to reproduce the same behavior. However, the I was prompted upon the first logon while in Incognito mode. The web application behaves as expected in Internet Explorer 10. Some info about the application: It's a Sharepoint site using NTLM authentication The credentials are Active Directory-based, as the username is domain\username My connection is over the Internet and there is no AD relationship between my local Windows account, my Windows PC. In other words I (meaning my locally logged on user and my PC) are not in any way part of their AD domain. The site is running SSL on port 443 Why might Chrome be automatically authenticating me?

• Multiple Reporting Services databases in one instance?

  Is it possible to have multiple Reporting Services databases in one MSSQL instance? I have a MSSQL 2008 R2 with RS set to SharePoint Integrated Mode. This RS is in use and can't be changed. I do however need a RS in native mode for the TFS installation to be able to use it. Am I required to set up a new instance of MSSQL? Bonus question: If so, is that permitted under the MS licensing scheme or is it an additional cost?

• Unable to map to web folder using WebDAV client on Windows Server 2008 R2

  Hello, I have a client running Windows Server 2008 R2 on several servers. One of the servers is also running SharePoint 3.0 and my client has created a web folder to map to. I can map to the web folder from all Server 2008 R2 boxes that have the WebDAV client (part of Desktop Experience feature) installed, except for the server the folder resides on. When I attempt to map to the web folder on the server which the folder resides, I am repeatedly prompted to enter my credentials. I am using the same account that I used to map the web folder on the other servers. I have also tried mapping from the command line and receive 'Access Denied' What may be causing the problem? I would think that if I can map to the drive from one server, I should be able to map the drive from the rest as long as the WebDAV client is installed, especially on the server where the folder is located. • Error 404 when accesing newly created ASP.NET website on IIS 7.0

  I've created an ASP.NET website and published it to a file from visual studio. Then I've copied my folder to the inetpub\wwwrot directory. Next under IIS I've converted this folder to the application. Unfortunately, when I try to acces it like this: http://localhost/myappname I am getting 404 error. I was thinking that maybe IIS is not configured to process aspx files, but under http://localhost/default.aspx there is a working sharepoint website. Have you got any ides where might be the problem?

• Did my registrar screw up or is this how name server propagation works?

  So my company has a number of domains with a large registrar that shall go unnamed. We are making some changes to our DNS infrastructure and the first of those is we are moving our secondary DNS from one server on site to four servers offsite. So we updated the name servers for each domain at the registrar by removing the entry for the old secondary name server and adding the four new ones. I monitored the old secondary server for requests and when I saw no new requests had been made for 24 hours I shut it down. That was this morning. I assumed at this point everything was good. Unfortunately this was my mistake. I should have gone and made sure name servers at large were returning the correct NS records. So this afternoon we were performing maintenance on our primary DNS server and we shut it down. This is when I started getting alerts from our external monitoring. I checked and sure enough, the DNS server used there reported the only NS record for our primary domain was the primary name server. The new secondary servers were not listed and neither was the old secondary. Is it unreasonable of me to have assumed that because the update was from ns1.mydomain.com ns2.mydomain.com to ns1.mydomain.com ns1.backupdns.com ns2.backupdns.com ns3.backupdns.com ns4.backupdns.com in one step at the registrar that there should be no intermediate state where the only NS record was for ns1.mydomain.com? Going forward to be safe obviously I will always leave the old name servers alone until after I'm 100% sure the new ones have propagated and only then remove the old name servers from the registrar. However, I'd still like to know if my registrar screwed up or if my expectation was unreasonable.

• Trouble with backup on SBS2008

  We have an SBS2008 installation, which has a backup task. It creates a backup twice a day onto external storage. This worked for a long time. But the backup can't be performed now. The last valid backup was before some Exchange updates, SBS Update Rollup 8 and SharePoint updates were installed. The only error in Event Logs is for VSS (the Volume Shadow Service), which I only have in German. Things I've done: restart the server chkdsk /r /f for all volumes restart the VSS service googling manual backup Nothing's helped. How can I set up the backup again?

• connecting to internal webserver on specific port

  Hello, We have the BT broadband forwarding on to an internal machine with an IIS web server running. Thats fine, it goes to the sharepoint app, so the outside world can see this app. Thing is we need another app running (a MVC ASP.Net app) and I have set it to :8080. Internally I can get to it fine, but not when I type the IP number. eg. 80.100.232.129:8080 is this something I need to set on the broadband router or something with SBS or somewhere else? thanks in advance

  As a newbie Postfix user, I've gotten so far and now I am stuck with a SMALL problem. I would like to configure my local network servers to send alerts and like using the following: 1) From address: [email protected] 2) From name: Hostname I can get #1 to work fine using smtp_generic_maps The problem is that on my email client, the name is listed as "root" - as in the header shows the following: Date: Sun, 29 Jul 2012 13:21:01 -0400 (EDT) From: [email protected] (root) To: undisclosed-recipients:; I'd like to change it to "From: [email protected] (Zeus)" I imagine that this can be done in the headers_check, but so far I haven't gotten anything to work and before I waste a ton of time trying to get this to work, I'd like to make sure I am on the right track. My aliasing and genericmaps are set up correctly (As far as I can see and know - the results are correct!). I just want to change that last bit in the From field to reflect the hostname. I would also like to add something in the subject of the outgoing messages for easy filtering - something like Subject: [Zeus.domain] - "Original Subject" Any suggestions are much appreciated. • people_dl_import shows millions of records

  We have a situation now on prod in sharepoint 2007 based intranet platform and it shows thousands of records under people_dl_import category with format spsimport://?$$dl$$/domain1/domain2/domain3/ Also import was not stopping and added millions of records in database and was on verge of disk full. On other servers like dev we have very less data in this category and format is also like spsimport://doaminname?$$dl$$?... which is good and has only 6000 rows and in prod its 2 millions Crawled under people_dl_import category. I need to know the cause of this garbage data and how to fix it. I tried resetting content source and I will do full import in this weekend to see if this garbage data gets cleared. Any idea on cause for thiss issue?

  Hello, I'm having the following problem. I'm installing SharePoint 2010 Beta so I need to activate the windows feature "Windows Communication Foundation Non-HTTP Activation". The problem is I cannot activate it, i get the message: "An error has occurred. Not all features were successfully changed" When i look at the log (C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log) I found this error: Process output: [l:186 [186]"SMConfigInstaller[Error]: Failed in calling 'StartService' for service 'NetTcpActivator'. Error code: 0x8007042c Anyone can give me a clue of what is happening here?

In some cases(mostly scrum projects, i guess), i get "The Webpage can not be found". In other cases- Unable to refresh data for a data connection in the workbook. • Self Hosted Dropbox Alternative?

  Does anyone know of any self-hosted Dropbox alternatives? We have a need to share files/folders between staff and partners (small scale) and for various reasons we'd prefer to host it ourselves. Sharepoint seems a little too focussed on "check in/check out" and things like webdav/ftp seem a little kludgy. In an ideal world something where you (as an IT person) can setup an area, make a user "owner" and from there they can add their customers would be great. Windows or Virtual Appliance would be ideal.

We are not able to find the required information if we uses "netdiag /test:ipsec", what is the command that can be used to pull the TCP blocking information and how to configure it? if i ran the command "netdiag /test:ipsec /debug" it is returning "IP Security test . . . . . . . . . : Skipped", what does it mean?

• Good reasons to keep 32-bit desktop OS's

  Server software has been 64-bit only for a while now (Since Server 2008 R2 for Windows, even earlier for Exchange and Sharepoint) and even Ubuntu are pushing you away from 32-bit versions for their server OS's. But is there any good, quantifiable reason to keep a 32-bit desktop operating system maintained? We're preparing our Windows 8 images for the (unfortunate?) few that will be early adopters. The majority of our desktop computers have 4gb or less of RAM, but I would love to not have to bother supporting a 32-bit flavoured operating system any more. Any reason why I should?

• Repair of Office Professional did not complete successfully

  When I try and run Repair on my installation of Office Professional Plus 2010 I get the error Microsoft Office Professional Plus 2010 configuration did not complete successfully. The file {90140000-01 15-040g-0000-0000000FF1CE)-C\OfficeMULmsi could not be found. Word, Excel, Outlook, Access all work properly, I have no complaints. The problem only came to light when trying failing to install Sharepoint Designer. How do I fix this? The host is 64bit Windows 7 Professional. Office is 32bit.

• Help with Corrupt version of IE8 on WinXPsp3

  I've upgrade from IE6 to 7 to 8 and back down and back up, but still have critical issues in IE such as * cannot see any version info in "about internet explorer" * cannot run windows update * cannot load SharePoint pages (and other pages using ActiveX or IE-specific dhtml) I've also re-installed sp3, but still no luck. Also, also - I've changed security settings to be most permissive. Next step is blowing it all away and starting with windows7. Short of that, any suggestions are welcome. Thanks in advance.

• New to server admin, Diagnosing Memory and CPU issues on DV

  Sorry for my ignorance and lack of knowledge. I'm a PHP/Front-end developer just now venturing into very minor server management/diagnostics. I have a Media Temple DV account. I have 2 sites that run a PHP script through a subscription service to an API. Basically API hits site with said script. Script runs, gathers data from api, saves data to SQL database. I noticed that these sites seemed to causing memory overages on my server (not sure why). So I temporarily disabled them. The memory overage alerts stopped but my CPU still sits really high, like at 115% and above. I'm trying to diagnos this with tutorials and resources but just can't seem to find a solution. I'll attach screenshots(screenshots are without the PHP scripts I assume are responsible for the memory issues) I'm assuming are important to the diagnosis, but if anyone can point me in the right direction to start A. figuring out if and why the PHP script may be causing memory overages and B. • Allow members of a group to be unlocked by a specific account on AD

  Background I'm creating a service to allow support staff to enable their firecall accounts out of hours (i.e. if there's an issue in the night and we can't get hold of someone with admin rights, another member of the support team can enable their personal firecall account on AD, which has previously been setup with admin rights). This service also logs a reason for the change, alerts key people, and a bunch of other bits to ensure that this change of access is audited / so we can ensure these temporary admin rights are used in the proper way. To do this I need the service account which my service runs under to have permissions to enable users on active directory. Ideally I'd like to lock this down so that the service account can only enable/disable users in a particular AD security group. Question How do you grant access to an account to enable/disable users who are members of a particular security group in AD? Backup Question If it's not possible to do this by security group, is there a suitable alternative? i.e. could it be done by OU, or would it be best to write a script to loop through all members of the security group and update the permissions on the objects (firecall accounts) themselves? • connections in FIN_WAIT and CLOSE_WAIT state

  I would like to elaborate the setup so You guys can understand the question and answer more accurately. I have HAProxy as load-balancer, 4 webservers (apache 2.2.3) and one database server (MySQL 5). I am monitoring these servers by nagios. I have disabled the keepalive on apache as we have only 8GB of memory. Now what happens whenever I receive alerts for high memory and cpu utilization, I have observed that the connections from apache to database server hang in established mode (keepalive with timeout value of 7200) and at other side means connections between haproxy and apache shows status as FIN_WAIT on haproxy server and CLOSE_WAIT at apache side. I also see the huge memory swapping and apache taking the most of the memory. I did strace on apache process and did not find any information. strace gets attached to apache process but did not produce any output. The processlist on Mysql server show s those processes in sleep mode. The application on webserver is Magento a php application. if you need further information please let me know. Thanks.

Many posts I've read seem to indicate it might be possible to run it on Windows 7 using one of the following: VirtualBox, Windows Virtual PC, VMWare but I'm not entirely sure.

• Software for Company internal Website [closed]

  hope this is the right stackexchange site to ask this: We've a group of webpages/services at work (SE Startup), ranging from SVN, trac, continous integration to link collections to a DMS. Nearly everything has an RSS Feed to get the info I need, with the exception of SVN. I'm looking for some kind of software that can integrate these well on a kind of start-page. The most recent changes, upcoming events etc should be clearly visible, as well as an option to search (the search will be provided from a different tool). A news area should be included as well. Currently, I'm pondering doing this with either wordpress or TWiki, although wordpress seems to be the simpler solution in terms of getting something good looking quickly. Authentication should be handled by HTTP-Basic Auth, which we already have in place and working well. I normally would consider Sharepoint a viable option for this, but we're exclusively mac and linux, I won't put up a windows server just for this.

• How do I block a single css file from being loaded with firefox or chrome?

  I want to be able to block one css file from loading on my system. The site has multiple sheets that I do want to load but it has one hideous theme.css file that I just have to get rid of. I would prefer to use Chrome but FF is ok too. A system wide ban on the file would be ideal. I want to specify a single url that the computer becomes incapable of fetching it. I will then use stylish to create my own replacement. BTW its a SharePoint theme and it has way too many rules to have to override. Thanks
