  • WinForms ReportViewer: slow initial rendering

    - by Bryan Roth
    UPDATE 2.4.2010 Yeah, this is an old question but I thought I would give an update. So, I'm working with the ReportViewer again and it's still rendering slowly on the initial load. The only difference is that the SQL database is on the reporting server. UPDATE 3.16.2009 I have done profiling and it's not the SQL that is making the ReportViewer render slowly on the first call. On the first call, the ReportViewer control locks up the UI thread and makes the program unresponsive. After about 5 seconds the ReportViewer will unlock the UI thread and display "Report is being generated" and then finally show the report. I know 5 seconds is not much but this shouldn't be happening. My coworker does the same thing in a program of his and the ReportViewer immediately displays the "Report is being generated" upon any request. The only difference is that the reporting server is on one server and the data is on another server. However, when I am developing the reports within SSRS, there is no delay. UPDATE I have noticed that only the first load of the ReportViewer takes a long time; each subsequent load of the same or different reports loads fast. I have a WinForms ReportViewer that I'm using in Remote processing mode that can take up to 30 seconds to render when the ReportViewer.RefreshReport() method is called. However, the report itself runs fast. This is the code to setup my ReportViewer: rvReport.ProcessingMode = ProcessingMode.Remote rvReport.ShowParameterPrompts = False rvReport.ServerReport.ReportServerUrl = New Uri(_reportServerURL) rvReport.ServerReport.ReportPath = _reportPath This is where the ReportViewer can take up to 30 seconds to render: rvReport.RefreshReport()

  • Android - Querying the SMS ContentProvider?

    - by Donal Rafferty
    I currently register a content observer on the following URI "content://sms/" to listen out for incoming and outgoing messages being sent. This seems to work ok and I have also tried deleting from the sms database but I can only delete an entire thread from the following URI "content://sms/conversations/" Here is the code I use for that String url = "content://sms/"; Uri uri = Uri.parse(url); getContentResolver().registerContentObserver(uri, true, new MyContentObserver(handler)); } class MyContentObserver extends ContentObserver { public MyContentObserver(Handler handler) { super(handler); } @Override public boolean deliverSelfNotifications() { return false; } @Override public void onChange(boolean arg0) { super.onChange(arg0); Log.v("SMS", "Notification on SMS observer"); Message msg = new Message(); msg.obj = "xxxxxxxxxx"; handler.sendMessage(msg); Uri uriSMSURI = Uri.parse("content://sms/"); Cursor cur = getContentResolver().query(uriSMSURI, null, null, null, null); cur.moveToNext(); String protocol = cur.getString(cur.getColumnIndex("protocol")); if(protocol == null){ Log.d("SMS", "SMS SEND"); int threadId = cur.getInt(cur.getColumnIndex("thread_id")); Log.d("SMS", "SMS SEND ID = " + threadId); Cursor c = getContentResolver().query(Uri.parse("content://sms/outbox/" + threadId), null, null, null, null); c.moveToNext(); int p = cur.getInt(cur.getColumnIndex("person")); Log.d("SMS", "SMS SEND person= " + p); //getContentResolver().delete(Uri.parse("content://sms/outbox/" + threadId), null, null); } else{ Log.d("SMS", "SMS RECIEVE"); int threadIdIn = cur.getInt(cur.getColumnIndex("thread_id")); getContentResolver().delete(Uri.parse("content://sms/outbox/" + threadIdIn), null, null); } } } However I want to be able to get the recipricant and the message text from the SMS Content Provider, can anyone tell me how to do this? And also how to delete one message instead of an entire thread?

  • GWT - occasional com.google.gwt.user.client.rpc.SerializationException

    - by user214984
    Hello we are haunted by occasional occurences of exceptions such as: com.google.gwt.user.client.rpc.SerializationException: Type 'xxx' was not assignable to 'com.google.gwt.user.client.rpc.IsSerializable' and did not have a custom field serializer.For security purposes, this type will not be serialized.: instance = xxx at com.google.gwt.user.server.rpc.impl.ServerSerializationStreamWriter.serialize(ServerSerializationStreamWriter.java:610) at com.google.gwt.user.client.rpc.impl.AbstractSerializationStreamWriter.writeObject(AbstractSerializationStreamWriter.java:129) at com.google.gwt.user.server.rpc.impl.ServerSerializationStreamWriter$ValueWriter$8.write(ServerSerializationStreamWriter.java:152) at com.google.gwt.user.server.rpc.impl.ServerSerializationStreamWriter.serializeValue(ServerSerializationStreamWriter.java:534) at com.google.gwt.user.server.rpc.RPC.encodeResponse(RPC.java:609) at com.google.gwt.user.server.rpc.RPC.encodeResponseForSuccess(RPC.java:467) at com.google.gwt.user.server.rpc.RPC.invokeAndEncodeResponse(RPC.java:564) at com.google.gwt.user.server.rpc.RemoteServiceServlet.processCall(RemoteServiceServlet.java:188) at de.softconex.travicemanager.server.TraviceManagerServiceImpl.processCall(TraviceManagerServiceImpl.java:615) at com.google.gwt.user.server.rpc.RemoteServiceServlet.processPost(RemoteServiceServlet.java:224) at com.google.gwt.user.server.rpc.AbstractRemoteServiceServlet.doPost(AbstractRemoteServiceServlet.java:62) at javax.servlet.http.HttpServlet.service(HttpServlet.java:710) at javax.servlet.http.HttpServlet.service(HttpServlet.java:803) at org.apache.catalina.core.ApplicationFilterChain.internalDoFilter(ApplicationFilterChain.java:290) at org.apache.catalina.core.ApplicationFilterChain.doFilter(ApplicationFilterChain.java:206) at org.jboss.web.tomcat.filters.ReplyHeaderFilter.doFilter(ReplyHeaderFilter.java:96) at org.apache.catalina.core.ApplicationFilterChain.internalDoFilter(ApplicationFilterChain.java:235) at org.apache.catalina.core.ApplicationFilterChain.doFilter(ApplicationFilterChain.java:206) at org.apache.catalina.core.StandardWrapperValve.invoke(StandardWrapperValve.java:230) at org.apache.catalina.core.StandardContextValve.invoke(StandardContextValve.java:175) at org.jboss.web.tomcat.security.SecurityAssociationValve.invoke(SecurityAssociationValve.java:179) at org.jboss.web.tomcat.security.JaccContextValve.invoke(JaccContextValve.java:84) at org.apache.catalina.core.StandardHostValve.invoke(StandardHostValve.java:127) at org.apache.catalina.valves.ErrorReportValve.invoke(ErrorReportValve.java:102) at org.jboss.web.tomcat.service.jca.CachedConnectionValve.invoke(CachedConnectionValve.java:157) at org.apache.catalina.core.StandardEngineValve.invoke(StandardEngineValve.java:109) at org.apache.catalina.connector.CoyoteAdapter.service(CoyoteAdapter.java:262) at org.apache.coyote.ajp.AjpAprProcessor.process(AjpAprProcessor.java:419) at org.apache.coyote.ajp.AjpAprProtocol$AjpConnectionHandler.process(AjpAprProtocol.java:378) at org.apache.tomcat.util.net.AprEndpoint$Worker.run(AprEndpoint.java:1508) at java.lang.Thread.run(Thread.java:619) The application is normally running fine. The indicated class implements Serializable (the whole object graph). So far the only patterns / observations are: we seem to have the issue only when the application is used inside an iframe the problem seems to happen when a new version of the application has been deployed running firefox in privacy mode (disabling all caches etc.) doesn't fix the problem Any ideas? • "Win32 exception occurred releasing IUnknown at..." error using Pylons and WMI

    - by Anders
    Hi all, Im using Pylons in combination with WMI module to do some basic system monitoring of a couple of machines, for POSIX based systems everything is simple - for Windows - not so much. Doing a request to the Pylons server to get current CPU, however it's not working well, or atleast with the WMI module. First i simply did (something) this: c = wmi.WMI() for cpu in c.Win32_Processor(): value = cpu.LoadPercentage However, that gave me an error when accessing this module via Pylons (GET http://ip:port/cpu): raise x_wmi_uninitialised_thread ("WMI returned a syntax error: you're probably running inside a thread without first calling pythoncom.CoInitialize[Ex]") x_wmi_uninitialised_thread: <x_wmi: WMI returned a syntax error: you're probably running inside a thread without first calling pythoncom.CoInitialize[Ex] (no underlying exception)> Looking at http://timgolden.me.uk/python/wmi/tutorial.html, i wrapped the code accordingly to the example under the topic "CoInitialize & CoUninitialize", which makes the code work, but it keeps throwing "Win32 exception occurred releasing IUnknown at..." And then looking at http://mail.python.org/pipermail/python-win32/2007-August/006237.html and the follow up post, trying to follow that - however pythoncom._GetInterfaceCount() is always 20. Im guessing this is someway related to Pylons spawning worker threads and crap like that, however im kinda lost here, advice would be nice. Thanks in advance, Anders

  • GridView row remove and animation - Android

    - by Pria
    I have a GridView in which each row has a custom view. The grid view adapter has an array that keeps the custom view. At click of a button, I want to remove a specific row from the Grid and while doing so I want animation on it. I have an AnimationListener. When I remove the upper most row from the array and setAdapter in onAnimationEnd(). It works perfectly fine. But, when I remove any other row, it gives a NullPointerException in the main thread. The exception thread is as follows: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(11503): java.lang.NullPointerException at android.view.ViewGroup.dispatchDraw(ViewGroup.java:1227) at android.widget.AbsListView.dispatchDraw(AbsListView.java:1319) at android.view.View.draw(View.java:5944) at android.widget.AbsListView.draw(AbsListView.java:2121) at android.view.ViewGroup.drawChild(ViewGroup.java:1486) at android.view.ViewGroup.dispatchDraw(ViewGroup.java:1228) at android.view.View.draw(View.java:5841) at android.widget.FrameLayout.draw(FrameLayout.java:352) at android.view.ViewGroup.drawChild(ViewGroup.java:1486) at android.view.ViewGroup.dispatchDraw(ViewGroup.java:1228) at android.view.View.draw(View.java:5841) at android.widget.FrameLayout.draw(FrameLayout.java:352) at android.view.ViewGroup.drawChild(ViewGroup.java:1486) at android.view.ViewGroup.dispatchDraw(ViewGroup.java:1228) at android.view.View.draw(View.java:5841) at android.widget.FrameLayout.draw(FrameLayout.java:352) at com.android.internal.policy.impl.PhoneWindow$DecorView.draw(PhoneWindow.java:1847) at android.view.ViewRoot.draw(ViewRoot.java:1217) at android.view.ViewRoot.performTraversals(ViewRoot.java:1030) at android.view.ViewRoot.handleMessage(ViewRoot.java:1482) at android.os.Handler.dispatchMessage(Handler.java:99) at android.os.Looper.loop(Looper.java:123) at android.app.ActivityThread.main(ActivityThread.java:3948) at java.lang.reflect.Method.invokeNative(Native Method) at java.lang.reflect.Method.invoke(Method.java:521) at com.android.internal.os.ZygoteInit$MethodAndArgsCaller.run(ZygoteInit.java:782) at com.android.internal.os.ZygoteInit.main(ZygoteInit.java:540) at dalvik.system.NativeStart.main(Native Method) Please help!!!

  • c# Named Pipe Asynchronous Peeking

    - by KJ Tsanaktsidis
    Hey all, I need to find a way to be notified when a System.IO.Pipe.NamedPipeServerStream opened in asynchronous mode has more data available for reading on it- a WaitHandle would be ideal. I cannot simply use BeginRead() to obtain such a handle because it's possible that i might be signaled by another thread which wants to write to the pipe- so I have to release the lock on the pipe and wait for the write to be complete, and NamedPipeServerStream doesnt have a CancelAsync method. I also tried calling BeginRead(), then calling the win32 function CancelIO on the pipe if the thread gets signaled, but I don't think this is an ideal solution because if CancelIO is called just as data is arriving and being processed, it will be dropped- I still wish to keep this data, but process it at a later time, after the write. I suspect the win32 function PeekNamedPipe might be useful but i'd like to avoid having to continuously poll for new data with it. In the likley event that the above text is a bit unclear, here's roughly what i'd like to be able to do... NamedPipeServerStream pipe; ManualResetEvent WriteFlag; //initialise pipe lock (pipe) { //I wish this method existed WaitHandle NewDataHandle = pipe.GetDataAvailableWaithandle(); Waithandle[] BreakConditions = new Waithandle[2]; BreakConditions[0] = NewDataHandle; BreakConditions[1] = WriteFlag; int breakcode = WaitHandle.WaitAny(BreakConditions); switch (breakcode) { case 0: //do a read on the pipe break; case 1: //break so that we release the lock on the pipe break; } }

  • Fancybox Auto Close, but remain user control

    - by justinw
    Hi, i've searched through the forum yet i can't find the solution. i'm refering to this thread to do the auto close function: http://groups.google.com/group/fancybox/browse_thread/thread/d09438b7... I did follow JFK's solution which works just right: 'onComplete': function() { $("#fancybox-wrap, #fancybox-overlay").delay(3000).fadeOut(); } if you don't want the user to close the box, then add modal=true The scenario is I would like the user to have the option to close the modal when they click on the [close] button or click anywhere on the overlay. I'm using the latest version of FB and jQuery on Rails. Here's my script: <script type="text/javascript"> jQuery(document).ready(function() { jQuery("#link_post").fancybox({ 'autoDimensions':false, 'width':380, 'height':50, 'title':'This message box will automatically close in 10 seconds.', 'titlePosition':'outside', 'onComplete': function() { jQuery("#fancybox-wrap, #fancybox- overlay").delay(10000).fadeOut(); } }); }); </script> However, when i clicked on the close button, the title and close button will fade away, but the FB's content and overlay are still there! it will only fade away after 10 seconds. So, my question is how to overwrite the 'onComplete' function if user clicks on the close button before it automatically closes?

    I can't seem to grasp why this is happening. This code: mProgressDialog = ProgressDialog.show(this, "", getString(R.string.loading), true); works just fine. • MapKit internal calls causing crash

    - by Ronnie Liew
    I have a MKMapView in the view of a UIViewController. The app will crash randomly when the I pop the UIViewController off from the UINavigationController. In the dealloc method of the UIViewController, I have already assigned the MKMapView delegate to nil as below: - (void)dealloc { mapView.delegate = nil; [_mapView release]; _mapView = nil; [super dealloc]; } The crash log are also attached as follows: Crash log #1: Thread 0 Crashed: 0 libobjc.A.dylib 0x000026f6 objc_msgSend + 18 1 MapKit 0x0005676c -[MKUserLocationPositionAnimation animationDidStop:finished:] + 64 2 QuartzCore 0x00015a26 run_animation_callbacks(double, void*) + 282 3 QuartzCore 0x000158dc CA::timer_callback(__CFRunLoopTimer*, void*) + 100 4 CoreFoundation 0x00056bac CFRunLoopRunSpecific + 2112 5 CoreFoundation 0x00056356 CFRunLoopRunInMode + 42 6 GraphicsServices 0x00003b2c GSEventRunModal + 108 7 GraphicsServices 0x00003bd8 GSEventRun + 56 8 UIKit 0x00002768 -[UIApplication _run] + 384 9 UIKit 0x0000146c UIApplicationMain + 688 10 Refill 0x00002aea main (main.m:14) 11 Refill 0x00002a60 start + 44 Crash log#2 Thread 0 Crashed: 0 libobjc.A.dylib 0x000026f4 objc_msgSend + 16 1 MapKit 0x0005a20e -[MKUserLocationViewInternal userLocationViewAccuracyDidUpdate] + 42 2 MapKit 0x0005676c -[MKUserLocationPositionAnimation animationDidStop:finished:] + 64 3 QuartzCore 0x00015a26 run_animation_callbacks(double, void*) + 282 4 QuartzCore 0x000158dc CA::timer_callback(__CFRunLoopTimer*, void*) + 100 5 CoreFoundation 0x00056bac CFRunLoopRunSpecific + 2112 6 CoreFoundation 0x00056356 CFRunLoopRunInMode + 42 7 GraphicsServices 0x00003b2c GSEventRunModal + 108 8 GraphicsServices 0x00003bd8 GSEventRun + 56 9 UIKit 0x00002768 -[UIApplication _run] + 384 10 UIKit 0x0000146c UIApplicationMain + 688 11 Refill 0x00002aea main (main.m:14) 12 Refill 0x00002a60 start + 44 Seems like the MapKit is trying to update the MKMapView on the user location but the delegate has already been deallocated.   • Multithreading recommendation based on program description

    - by user260197
    I would like to describe some specifics of my program and get feedback on what the best multithreading model to use would be most applicable. I've spent a lot of time now reading on ThreadPool, Threads, Producer/Consumer, etc. and have yet to come to solid conclusions. I have a list of files (all the same format) but with different contents. I have to perform work on each file. The work consists of reading the file, some processing that takes about 1-2 minutes of straight number crunching, and then writing large output files at the end. I would like the UI interface to still be responsive after I initiate the work on the specified files. Some questions: What model/mechanisms should I use? Producer/Consumer, WorkPool, etc. Should I use a BackgroundWorker in the UI for responsiveness or can I launch the threading from within the Form as long as I leave the UI thread alone to continue responding to user input? How could I take results or status of each individual work on each file and report it to the UI in a thread safe way to give user feedback as the work progresses (there can be close to 1000 files to process) Update: Great feedback so far, very helpful. I'm adding some more details that are asked below: Output is to multiple independent files. One set of output files per "work item" that then themselves gets read and processed by another process before the "work item" is complete The work items/threads do not share any resources. The work items are processed in part using a unmanaged static library that makes use of boost libraries.

  • java.lang.NoSuchMethodError: org.w3c.dom.Document.setDocumentURI

    I am getting a NoSuchMethodError error for org.w3c.dom.Document.setDocumentURI. This is strange, as I have rt.jar in the JAVA_HOME path. I am creating a web service using CXF, and the error seem to be coming out of CXF: java.lang.NoSuchMethodError: org.w3c.dom.Document.setDocumentURI(Ljava/lang/String;)V org.apache.cxf.staxutils.StaxUtils.read(StaxUtils.java:760) org.apache.cxf.wsdl11.WSDLManagerImpl.loadDefinition(WSDLManagerImpl.java:219) org.apache.cxf.wsdl11.WSDLManagerImpl.getDefinition(WSDLManagerImpl.java:179) org.apache.cxf.wsdl11.WSDLServiceFactory.(WSDLServiceFactory.java:91) org.apache.cxf.service.factory.ReflectionServiceFactoryBean.buildServiceFromWSDL(ReflectionServiceFactoryBean.java:403) org.apache.cxf.service.factory.ReflectionServiceFactoryBean.initializeServiceModel(ReflectionServiceFactoryBean.java:528) org.apache.cxf.service.factory.ReflectionServiceFactoryBean.create(ReflectionServiceFactoryBean.java:278) org.apache.cxf.jaxws.support.JaxWsServiceFactoryBean.create(JaxWsServiceFactoryBean.java:178) org.apache.cxf.frontend.AbstractWSDLBasedEndpointFactory.createEndpoint(AbstractWSDLBasedEndpointFactory.java:100) org.apache.cxf.frontend.ServerFactoryBean.create(ServerFactoryBean.java:105) org.apache.cxf.jaxws.JaxWsServerFactoryBean.create(JaxWsServerFactoryBean.java:167) org.apache.cxf.jaxws.EndpointImpl.getServer(EndpointImpl.java:349) org.apache.cxf.jaxws.EndpointImpl.doPublish(EndpointImpl.java:262) org.apache.cxf.jaxws.EndpointImpl.publish(EndpointImpl.java:212) org.apache.cxf.jaxws.EndpointImpl.publish(EndpointImpl.java:407) sun.reflect.NativeMethodAccessorImpl.invoke0(Native Method) sun.reflect.NativeMethodAccessorImpl.invoke(NativeMethodAccessorImpl.java:39) sun.reflect.DelegatingMethodAccessorImpl.invoke(DelegatingMethodAccessorImpl.java:25) java.lang.reflect.Method.invoke(Method.java:597) org.springframework.beans.factory.support.AbstractAutowireCapableBeanFactory.invokeCustomInitMethod(AbstractAutowireCapableBeanFactory.java:1414) org.springframework.beans.factory.support.AbstractAutowireCapableBeanFactory.invokeInitMethods(AbstractAutowireCapableBeanFactory.java:1375) org.springframework.beans.factory.support.AbstractAutowireCapableBeanFactory.initializeBean(AbstractAutowireCapableBeanFactory.java:1335) org.springframework.beans.factory.support.AbstractAutowireCapableBeanFactory.doCreateBean(AbstractAutowireCapableBeanFactory.java:473) org.springframework.beans.factory.support.AbstractAutowireCapableBeanFactory$1.run(AbstractAutowireCapableBeanFactory.java:409) java.security.AccessController.doPrivileged(Native Method) org.springframework.beans.factory.support.AbstractAutowireCapableBeanFactory.createBean(AbstractAutowireCapableBeanFactory.java:380) org.springframework.beans.factory.support.AbstractBeanFactory$1.getObject(AbstractBeanFactory.java:264) org.springframework.beans.factory.support.DefaultSingletonBeanRegistry.getSingleton(DefaultSingletonBeanRegistry.java:222) org.springframework.beans.factory.support.AbstractBeanFactory.doGetBean(AbstractBeanFactory.java:261) org.springframework.beans.factory.support.AbstractBeanFactory.getBean(AbstractBeanFactory.java:185) org.springframework.beans.factory.support.AbstractBeanFactory.getBean(AbstractBeanFactory.java:164) org.springframework.beans.factory.support.DefaultListableBeanFactory.preInstantiateSingletons(DefaultListableBeanFactory.java:429) org.springframework.context.support.AbstractApplicationContext.finishBeanFactoryInitialization(AbstractApplicationContext.java:728) org.springframework.context.support.AbstractApplicationContext.refresh(AbstractApplicationContext.java:380) org.apache.cxf.transport.servlet.CXFServlet.loadAdditionalConfig(CXFServlet.java:171) org.apache.cxf.transport.servlet.CXFServlet.updateContext(CXFServlet.java:139) org.apache.cxf.transport.servlet.CXFServlet.loadSpringBus(CXFServlet.java:101) org.apache.cxf.transport.servlet.CXFServlet.loadBus(CXFServlet.java:70) org.apache.cxf.transport.servlet.AbstractCXFServlet.init(AbstractCXFServlet.java:78) org.apache.catalina.valves.ErrorReportValve.invoke(ErrorReportValve.java:102) org.apache.catalina.connector.CoyoteAdapter.service(CoyoteAdapter.java:293) org.apache.coyote.http11.Http11Processor.process(Http11Processor.java:849) org.apache.coyote.http11.Http11Protocol$Http11ConnectionHandler.process(Http11Protocol.java:583) org.apache.tomcat.util.net.JIoEndpoint$Worker.run(JIoEndpoint.java:454) java.lang.Thread.run(Thread.java:619) Can someone offer some advice?   • How to correctly calculate FPS in XNA?

    - by Tomek Tarczynski
    I wrote a component to display current FPS. The most important part of it is: public override void Update(GameTime gameTime) { elapseTime += (float)gameTime.ElapsedRealTime.TotalSeconds; frameCounter++; if (elapseTime > 1) { FPS = frameCounter; frameCounter = 0; elapseTime = 0; } base.Update(gameTime); } In most cases it works ok, but recently I had a problem. When I put following code into Update method of game strange thing starts to happen. if (threadPath == null || threadPath.ThreadState != ThreadState.Running) { ThreadStart ts = new ThreadStart(current.PathFinder.FindPaths); threadPath = new Thread(ts); threadPath.Priority = ThreadPriority.Highest; threadPath.Start(); } Main idea of this code is to run pathFinding algorithm in different thread all the time. By strange things I mean that sometimes FPS drasticly decreases, this is obvious, but displayed FPS changes more often than once a second. If I understand this code FPS can't change more often than once a second. Can someone explain me what's going on?

  • NSURLConnection sendSynchronousRequest: fails when using POST

    - by Combat
    I'm using a custom NSURLCache to intercept calls for certain web pages in order to modify them dynamically. Inside cachedResponseForRequest: I modify the request, then send it out using sendSynchronousRequest. This works very well until you attempt to submit a form. If there is post data it fails. If i remove the HTTPBody and set the request to GET, it succeeds. But i need it to work with POST. If i send the request asynchronously it also works which is why i can't figure out why the synchronous request fails. • CPUID on Intel i7 processors

    - by StarPacker
    I'm having an issue with my CPUID-based code on newer i7-based machines. It is detecting the CPU as having a single core with 8 HT units instead of 4 cores each with 2 HT units. I must be misinterpreting the results of the CPUID information coming back from the CPU, but I can't see how. Basically, I iterate through each processor visible to Windows, set thread affinity to that thread and then make a sequence of CPUID calls. args = new CPUID_Args(); args.eax = 1; executeHandler(ref args); if (0 != (args.edx & (0x1 << 28))) { //If the 28th bit in EDX is flagged, this processor supports multiple logical processors per physical package // in this case bits 23:16 of EBX should give the count. //** EBX here is 0x2100800 logicalProcessorCount = (args.ebx & 0x00FF0000) >> 16; //** this tells me there are 16 logical processors (wrong) } else { logicalProcessorCount = 1; } apic = unchecked((byte)((0xFF000000 & args.ebx) >> 24)); if (maximumSupportedCPUID >= 4) { args = new CPUID_Args(); args.eax = 4; executeHandler(ref args); //EAX now contains 0x1C004121 coreCount = 1 + ((args.eax & 0xFC000000) >> 26); //This calculates coreCount as 8 } else { coreCount = 1; } This sequence repeats for the remainder of the CPUs in the system. Has anyone faced this before?

  • Suggestions for doing async I/O with Task Parallel Library

    - by anelson
    I have some high performance file transfer code which I wrote in C# using the Async Programming Model (APM) idiom (eg, BeginRead/EndRead). This code reads a file from a local disk and writes it to a socket. For best performance on modern hardware, it's important to keep more than one outstanding I/O operation in flight whenever possible. Thus, I post several BeginRead operations on the file, then when one completes, I call a BeginSend on the socket, and when that completes I do another BeginRead on the file. The details are a bit more complicated than that but at the high level that's the idea. I've got the APM-based code working, but it's very hard to follow and probably has subtle concurrency bugs. I'd love to use TPL for this instead. I figured Task.Factory.FromAsync would just about do it, but there's a catch. All of the I/O samples I've seen (most particularly the StreamExtensions class in the Parallel Extensions Extras) assume one read followed by one write. This won't perform the way I need. I can't use something simple like Parallel.ForEach or the Extras extension Task.Factory.Iterate because the async I/O tasks don't spend much time on a worker thread, so Parallel just starts up another task, resulting in potentially dozens or hundreds of pending I/O operations; way too much! You can work around that by Waiting on your tasks, but that causes creation of an event handle (a kernel object), and a blocking wait on a task wait handle, which ties up a worker thread. My APM-based implementation avoids both of those things. I've been playing around with different ways to keep multiple read/write operations in flight, and I've managed to do so using continuations that call a method that creates another task, but it feels awkward, and definitely doesn't feel like idiomatic TPL. Has anyone else grappled with an issue like this with the TPL? Any suggestions?

  • ProgressDialog not working in external AsyncTask

    - by eric
    I'm beginning to think that to get a ProgressDialog to work the AsyncTask has to be an inner class within an Activity class. True? I have an activity the uses a database to manipulate information. If the database is populated all is well. If it is not populated then I need to download information from a website, populate the database, then access the populated database to complete the Views in onCreate. Problem is without some means to determine when the AsyncTask thread has finished populating the database, I get the following Force Close error message: Sorry! The application has stopped unexpectedly. I click on the Force Close button, the background AsyncTask thread continues to work, the database gets populated, and everything works ok. I need to get rid of that error message and need some help on how to do this. Here's some psuedo code: public class ViewStuff extends Activity { onCreate { if(database is populated) do_stuff else { FillDB task = null; if(task == null || task.getStatus().equals(AsyncTask.Status.FINISHED)) { task = new FillDB(context); task.execute(null); } } continue with onCreate using information from database to properly display } // end onCreate } // end class In a separate file: public class FillDB extends AsyncTask<Void, Void, Void> { private Context context; public FillDB (Context c) //pass the context in the constructor { context = c; } public void filldb () { doInBackground(); } @Override protected void onPreExecute() { ProgressDialog progressDialog = new ProgressDialog(context); //crashes with the following line progressDialog.show(context, "Working..", "Retrieving info"); } @Override protected Void doInBackground(Void... params) { // TODO Auto-generated method stub try etc etc etc } } What am I doing wrong?

  • MySQL Connection Timeout Issue - Grails Application on Tomcat using Hibernate and ORM

    - by gav
    Hi Guys I have a small grails application running on Tomcat in Ubuntu on a VPS. I use MySql as my datastore and everything works fine unless I leave the application for more than half a day (8 hours?). I did some searching and apparently this is the default wait_timeout in mysql.cnf so after 8 hours the connection will die but Tomcat won't know so when the next user tries to view the site they will see the connection failure error. Refreshing the page will fix this but I want to get rid of the error altogether. For my version of MySql (5.0.75) I have only my.cnf and it doesn't contain such a parameter, In any case changing this parameter doesn't solve the problem. This Blog Post seems to be reporting a similar error but I still don't fully understand what I need to configure to get this fixed and also I am hoping that there is a simpler solution than another third party library. The machine I'm running on has 256MB ram and I'm trying to keep the number of programs/services running to a minimum. Is there something I can configure in Grails / Tomcat / MySql to get this to go away? • drupal - override form action?

    I originally started this question in another thread, but that thread was sorta, kinda answered, and now I primarily want to know how to specify another form action... I tried using the code below, but the form action, when output, remains unchanged, although looking at the print_r($form), it's correctly changed... Why isn't it picking up? function mytheme_user_profile_form($form) { global $user; $uid = $user->uid; //print '<pre>'; print_r($form); print '</pre>'; $category = $form['_category']['#value']; switch($category) { case 'account': $form['#action'] = '/user/'.$uid.'/edit?destination=user/'.$uid; break; case 'education': $form['#action'] = '/user/'.$uid.'/edit/education?destination=user/'.$uid; break; case 'experience': $form['#action'] = '/user/'.$uid.'/edit/experience?destination=user/'.$uid; break; case 'publications': $form['#action'] = '/user/'.$uid.'/edit/publications?destination=user/'.$uid; break; case 'conflicts': $form['#action'] = '/user/'.$uid.'/edit/conflicts?destination=user/'.$uid; break; } //print '<pre>'; print_r($form); print '</pre>'; //print $form['#action']; $output .= drupal_render($form); return $output;

  • createSQLXML() AbstractMethodError (with DB2XADataSource?)

    Environment: WASCE 2.0.0.4 (aka geronimo 2.1) db2jcc4.jar 4.3.85 (tried 4.8.x as well) tranql-connector-db2-xa 1.4 (tried 1.5 as well) SQLXML xml = c.createSQLXML(); Struggling with java.lang.AbstractMethodError: java/sql/ResultSet.getSQLXML(I)Ljava/sql/SQLXML; at [snip] at javax.servlet.http.HttpServlet.service(HttpServlet.java:693) at javax.servlet.http.HttpServlet.service(HttpServlet.java:806) at org.apache.catalina.core.ApplicationFilterChain.internalDoFilter(ApplicationFilterChain.java:290) at org.apache.catalina.core.ApplicationFilterChain.doFilter(ApplicationFilterChain.java:206) at org.apache.catalina.core.StandardWrapperValve.invoke(StandardWrapperValve.java:233) at org.apache.catalina.core.StandardContextValve.invoke(StandardContextValve.java:191) at org.apache.geronimo.tomcat.valve.DefaultSubjectValve.invoke(DefaultSubjectValve.java:56) at org.apache.geronimo.tomcat.GeronimoStandardContext$SystemMethodValve.invoke(GeronimoStandardContext.java:406) at org.apache.geronimo.tomcat.valve.GeronimoBeforeAfterValve.invoke(GeronimoBeforeAfterValve.java:47) at org.apache.catalina.core.StandardHostValve.invoke(StandardHostValve.java:127) at org.apache.catalina.valves.ErrorReportValve.invoke(ErrorReportValve.java:102) at org.apache.catalina.core.StandardEngineValve.invoke(StandardEngineValve.java:109) at org.apache.catalina.valves.AccessLogValve.invoke(AccessLogValve.java:555) at org.apache.geronimo.tomcat.valve.ThreadCleanerValve.invoke(ThreadCleanerValve.java:40) at org.apache.catalina.connector.CoyoteAdapter.service(CoyoteAdapter.java:298) at org.apache.coyote.http11.Http11Processor.process(Http11Processor.java:852) at org.apache.coyote.http11.Http11Protocol$Http11ConnectionHandler.process(Http11Protocol.java:588) at org.apache.tomcat.util.net.JIoEndpoint$Worker.run(JIoEndpoint.java:489) at java.lang.Thread.run(Thread.java:736) It happens the connection handle is acquired via JNDI only. Works fine with the connection handle is acquired the traditional way. I made sure it is not a jar/version/classloading issue. got hints?

  • MSTest project can't get localized string?

    - by miliu
    I ran into a strange problem. In my unit test, I want to check the localized strings. However, I can't seem to get it work. For example, I created two resources: Resource1.resx for English and Resource1.zh-CN.resx for Chinese. The unit test project can only get the (default?) English resource string. This is the code I'm using: ResourceManager actual = new ResourceManager(typeof(LocaleTest.Properties.Resource1)); string name0 = actual.GetString("Name", new CultureInfo("en-US")); string name1 = actual.GetString("Name", new CultureInfo("zh-CN")); I created another regular project (means not a MSTest project) to make sure the localized strings are working. So, it works in a regular project, but not in a MSTest project. It didn't help even if I put the following code to make 'zh-CN' as the current culture of the unit test: [TestInitialize()] public void MyTestInitialize() { Thread.CurrentThread.CurrentCulture = new CultureInfo("zh-CN"); Thread.CurrentThread.CurrentUICulture = new CultureInfo("zh-CN"); } Anybody has seen similar problems? Is there any workaround?
